Gems are Unbreakable is a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Steven Universe crossover by The Black Mage of Phantasm, who also wrote The Requiem of Remnant. Here, Josuke Higashikata, the protagonist of Diamond is Unbreakable, is transported to the world of Steven Universe. However, he is not the only one to be sent to a new universe. Kira Yoshikage, Serial Killer who murdered Josuke's friends, has also come along. Not only did Kira arrive in this world some months before Josuke, he also makes a new home for himself in Beach City. Upon realizing that Kira is still alive and learning where he is, Josuke is determined to stop Kira once and for all.

Meanwhile, the Crystal Gems are slowly realizing that something is happening to the people of Beach City. Steven Universe is now on the hunt for whatever has been taking his friends and fellow citizens. But this adventure seems different to Steven. Is this really the work of another Gem?

And no matter who is after him, Kira Yoshikage is not about to let anyone disturb his peaceful life.

This fic has examples of

• Adaptational Villainy: Yoshikage Kira is somehow even more villainous than he was in canon. While he was always a Serial Killer, in canon Diamond is Unbreakable his murders were framed as a compulsion he never bothered to resist. In this fic, he's just as much of a sadist as Angelo, and is called even worse by the narration.
• Anyone Can Die: Kira kills Peridot after she discovers what kind of a person he really is.
  • Kira also kills Jenny in order to instigate a fight between Josuke and the Crystal Gems.
• Ass Kicking Pose: Being a JoJo crossover, Josuke, and even Kira, have posed a few times.
• Battle Cry: Crazy Diamond always shouts its famous DORARARA right before it goes into action. Even Josuke says it sometimes.
• Big Damn Heroes: Lapis comes to Stevonnie's rescue when Kira is about to kill them.
• Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Kira poses as "Araki Hirohiko", a kind and friendly, if somewhat introverted, man that is always there for Steven to talk to. However, it's all a ruse in order for Kira to emotionally manipulate Steven and make him reveal the Gems' weaknesses. He shows his true colors to Steven when Steven questions him after discovering a discrepancy in his words.
• Break the Cutie: Steven, after Peridot's death, falls into a deep depression, starts hearing Bismuth's voice in his head, and has nightmares of Peridot dying. His vulnerable emotional state allows Kira to exploit him into revealing the secrets and weaknesses of the Gems, while to Steven it seems like he's comforting him.
• Break Them by Talking: Kira does this to Steven by recounting all the times the Crytal Gems have either hurt either him or his other friends and family. Every point he makes hits Steven hard, and he starts to question the Gems' secretive nature and their tendency to rely on him to help them with their problems. Adding in the fact that he saw Peridot die right in front of him not even a day ago, by the end he's crying into Kira's lap convinced that his guardians and even his mother are bad people.
• Call-Back: This fic has several events that parallel those in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure such as:
  • Josuke stopping his own heart in his fight against Let Me Live is a copy of the same tactic Jotaro used in his fight against DIO.
  • The way Kira killed Peridot is vastly similar to how he killed Shigechi. Both were loyal friends who wanted to protect those they love, but unfortunately, they could not escape Kira and ended up dying in an explosion.
  • Josuke and Garnet's Pummel Duel is very similar to when Jotaro and DIO did the same thing in Part 3; both of them ended when one opponent was able to outmaneuver the other.
• The Chessmaster: Kira engineers a plan to get Josuke and the Crystal Gems to fight each other. He has Let Me Live attack Josuke, and cause destruction around the town, and has Sheer Heart Attack attack the Gems in order to lure them to Josuke's location. Finally, he threatens Jenny into lying to the Crystal Gems about Josuke being a Homeworld Gem, then has Sheer Heart Attack kill her and make it look like Josuke ordered it to. He also emotionally manipulates Steven into revealing the Gems' weaknesses to him, and to seperate him from the Crystal Gems, harming their morale. He's turned the Crystal Gems into Unwitting Pawns and has put pretty much everything in his favor.
• Darker and Edgier: This fic is far darker than its source material, in regards to both series but especially Steven Universe. Characters are stressed, angsty, they get hurt and bleed, and above all, there's a man who is killing other people again and again.
• Dropped a Bridge on Him: Vidalia ends up becoming one of Kira's "girlfriends". That is to say, he killed her offscreen.
• Emotion Bomb: Josuke starts crying when his powers allow him to connect to Pearl while she is fused with Garnet because he is experiencing her emotions. This intensifies even more after he invades Sardonyx's mindscape, but he is able to overcome it with his willpower.
• Escape Battle Technique: During his fight with Sheer Heart Attack Josuke channels his father and uses the secret Joestar technique. Running for your life.
  • Josuke uses this again when Garnet and Pearl fuse into Sardonyx. He knew he couldn't fight her, so he tried his best to distract her and escape, but she is able to seriously injure his arm with a piece of flying debris from her hammer before he could hide.
• Foil: Kira and Steven. Kira is an emotionless serial killer who only cares about his quiet life while Steven is a boy who loves and cares deeply for every living thing, and who is always willing to do anything to help those in need.
• Fusion Dance: All Gems are capable of fusion. This is used numerous times in the story, including when:
  • Steven and Connie fuse into Stevonnie to fight Kira after he shows his true colors.
  • Garnet and Pearl fuse into Sardonyx after they realize they can't beat Josuke seperately.
    • After Josuke invades Sardonyx's mindscape, he uses Crazy Diamond's reversion abilities to manipulate the energy making up Sardonyx and (sort of) fuse with Crazy Diamond.
• Genius Bruiser: Josuke always uses his mind to come up with strategies to outmaneuver his opponents.
• Genre Savvy: If you don't tell people who are supposed to trust you much about yourself, it will make them distrust you. Kira uses the fact that the Crystal Gems don't talk much about their history or motivations to Steven in order to manipulate the emotionally troubled boy. And it works.
• Heroic Spirit: Even when Josuke has broken limbs, can barely move without coughing blood, and even gets hit by exploisons, he refuses to stay down. During his fight with Let Me Live, when he is about to pass out from exhaustion due to his grave injuries, looking into Let Me Live's eyes reminds him that Kira still hasn't been defeated yet. And until the serial killer is put down, he can't give up now.
  • Peridot gets up even after getting hit by one of Killer Queen's explosions. Due to Killer Queen's bombs literally exploding a person from within, Peridot feels a great amount of pain especially since the explosion ends up damaging her gem. But she still presses on because she won't let Kira hurt her friends.
• Invisible to Normals: Stands can't be seen or hurt by normal people. And because of this fact, Josuke thinks that he is literally the only person in the world that stands a chance against Kira since there are no other Stand Users in this new dimension.
  • For some reason, Stevonnie can see Killer Queen.
• Jerkass Has a Point: When Kira talks to Steven about the Gems, he raises several points about their secretive and borderline manipulative behavior that the boy has witnessed. He tells Steven that people who display these types of traits are not fit to raise a point, and after reliving those moments in his head, by the end, Steven can't help but feel the same.
• Let's You and Him Fight: Kira manipulates the Crystal Gems into attacking Josuke by making them believe that he was the one that killed Peridot by threatening Jenny into telling that to the Crystal Gems, then having Sheer Heart Attack kill Jenny and make it look like Josuke ordered it to do so. This inevitably leads them to insulting Josuke's hair, so you can probably guess what his reaction is.
• Locked Out of the Loop: Steven knows next to nothing about the Crystal Gems past, Homeworld Gems or society in general, or even anything about what his own mother was like, as is in canon. However, here, Kira is able to exploit this. Due to the fact that even when he learns something dark about the Gems history that they wanted to keep hidden, and the fact that even when he does learn something and the Gems still don't explain anything to him, Kira convinces Steven that the reason why is because the Crystal Gems don't want him to realize that they're horrible people who care for nothing but themselves.
  • Both Josuke and the Gems are on different sides of this during their fight. The Gems believe that he is an Homeworld Gem sent to Beach City to kidnap humans, and is the one that killed Peridot. Josuke, on the other hand, only knows that his opponents are aliens and knows next to nothing about their biology or abilities.
• Manipulative Bastard: Kira Yoshikage manipulates Steven into hating his own family by pointing out all of the Crystal Gems past mistakes and making him realize that they aren't over any of their own issues.
• No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Being a JoJo crossover, this is pretty much a given.
  • Josuke absolutely pulverizes Kira when they are being transported to the world of Steven Universe. He survives this, however.
  • Josuke gives one to Let Me Live after tricking it into getting close by stopping his heart.
  • Josuke destroys Sheer Heart Attack after filling its insides with water and submerging it in liquid nitrogen, cracking its armor.
  • Josuke gives one to each member of the Crystal Gems at least once during their fight:
    • He gives one to Amethyst at the start of their fight by pulling her towards him by her whip and beating the everloving shit out of her. He does it to her again after he reverts the pavement into coal tar in order to stop her movements. Crazy Diamond painfully tears her away from the ground and slams her onto another patch of coal tar. Again and again.
    • After knocking Pearl to the ground, he has Crazy Diamond rapidly stomp on her back, causing the pavement to crack. She still gets up after this since the beatdown was interrupted by Garnet, but Josuke later uses a ribbon he tore off her clothing to pull her towards him and deliver a beatdown with Crazy Diamond.
    • Josuke gives one to Garnet after overwhelming her during their Pummel Duel by making Crazy Diamond's fists break the sound barrier, causing the windows around them to shatter on his final punch.
• Oh, Crap!: Josuke experiences this when Garnet and Pearl fuse into Sardonyx. All he can do is stare, and he is rendered speechless as he realizes that he no match for her.
  • Kira ends up experiencing this as well when Lapis arrives to save Stevonnie
    Kira: Are you fucking kidding me?
• Outside-Context Problem: Kira and Josuke are both this to Steven and the Crystal Gems due to their Stands. Kira specifically for being a super powered human serial killer, since the heroes usually deal with corrupted gems and otherworldly threats.
• Pop-Cultured Badass: Josuke has an abundant knowledge of western movies and TV, and can kick anyone's ass in a heartbeat.
• Precision F-Strike: Quite a few examples, due to the fic's nature.
  • Garnet says this after Peridot's death:
    Garnet: They. Pissed. Me. Off.
  • Steven of all people drops one after he calls them out:
    Steven You... if you're just going to keep lying to me... if you're just gonna keep hurting me... if you're not going tell me any of the secrets or history that I deserve to know... then... just... fuck off.
    • Granted, he was told to say that to the Gems by Kira.
  • Pearl even drops one after Sheer Heart Attack said that Peridot was easy to kill:
    Amethyst: You-!
    Pearl: You motherfucker!
• Pummel Duel: Crazy Diamond and Garnet end up getting into one of these. Garnet is stronger than Crazy Diamond, so Josuke's hands end up taking damage with every hit, but Crazy Diamond is able to overwhelm Garnet with his superior speed.
• Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: Crazy Diamond can move at the speed of light, so it can easily punch a person hundreds of times in just a few seconds.
• Significant Wardrobe Shift: After Josuke's Iconic Outfit is damaged in his battle with Sheer Heart Attack, he changes his outfit to something more similar to biker gear. His iconic heart and peace sign pins are now located on his gloves.
• Trapped in Another World: Both Josuke and Kira are now stuck in a new world. However, they both have different reactions to this fact.
• Tranquil Fury: While Kira may seem calm on the outside, on the inside he's most likely thinking about how to kill and maim whoever was unfortunate enough to piss him off.
