  • Miserable: Lit originally wanted the video to be following the band as they performed the song at a rock concert. However the higher ups at the record company turned it down, saying it was out of style and done to death and presented a different treatment they wanted for the video: the band members performing on top of and then getting eaten by a Giant Woman in a bikini. This is one of the rare instances where the meddling was a net positive as not only was the video a massive hit, especially once Pamela Anderson signed on to be the giant woman, but it shot the song back up the charts after it had started to slip down, and the video became a major touchstone of the band's legacy.
  • Devo's record label, Enigma, insisted that the "Post-Post Modern Man" video should feature Playboy playmate of the month Deborah Driggs for commercial appeal. Band member and director Jerry Casale found a tongue in cheek way to work her into the video concept he already had in mind — instead of just Devo getting lost driving through the desert, it became Devo getting lost driving through the desert while Deborah lounges around in lingerie, waiting all day for their return and looking increasingly impatient. MTV subjected the video to further meddling - they rejected the original video because it was set to the dance mix of the song, when the network had expected a clip for the more guitar-based album version that they could market to Alternative Rock / "college rock" audiences. An Alternate Music Video for a different mix of the song was produced, but due to the timing, the band could only have limited involvement; it was a Clip Show video that spoofed the Home Shopping Network, with Rocky Shenck directing and the band only making a cameo appearance outside of the clips from other videos.
