Death Battle is a series all about pitting characters against each other, so it makes sense to give them reasons for actually fighting, however flimsy they may be.

    Season 1 
  • "Rogue vs. Wonder Woman": Rogue is flying in the sky, and suddenly, Wonder Woman shows up and kicks her out of the sky.
  • "Felicia vs. Taokaka": Taokaka attacks Felicia when she accidentally wakes up Tao from a nap. Taokaka hates being awoken from a catnap.
  • "Vegeta vs. Shadow": Shadow finds Vegeta and declares he wants to fight him to prove he's the Ultimate Lifeform. Vegeta jokes that he's too short to be the ultimate lifeform, and when Shadow fires back with a short joke of his own, it turns into a fight to the death.
  • "Mario vs. Sonic (2011)": It is hinted that Sonic and Mario want to end their rivalry with their duel to the death.
  • "Superman vs. Goku": Goku senses Superman's power; while he's initially happy to find a strong sparring partner, he realizes that he's an alien who might pose a threat to the earth, so he travels to Metropolis to fight him.

    Season 2 
  • "He-Man vs. Lion-O": Lion-O thought that He-Man was abusing Cringer/Battlecat and so believed that He-Man was a supervillain.
  • "Fox vs. Bucky": Bucky O'Hare kills Fox's teammate Slippy Toad, thinking that he was an evil toad from the O'Hare franchise. Fox seeks revenge.
  • "Terminator vs. RoboCop": Terminator is sent back in time on an unknown mission. Since RoboCop is a policeman, he naturally has to arrest Terminator for murdering the gun shop owner, stealing from him, and destroying his shop.
  • "Pokemon Battle Royale": A Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle are given a bunch of Rare Candies, evolving them into their final stages. The Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise see each other and fight due to pride.
  • "Godzilla vs. Gamera": Godzilla attacks a city, which is not unusual at all. However Gamera is the protector of mankind (well, the children at least), and so is protecting the city against Godzilla.
  • "Tigerzord vs. Gundam Epyon": Tommy and Saba are testing the Tigerzord's weapons in a barren plain and manage to (somehow despite all odds) fire randomly in the air and hit Noin's Mobile Suit, killing her, which provokes Zechs to jump into Epyon and attack him. Tommy mistakes Epyon for one of Lord Zedd's monsters.
  • "Deadpool vs. Deathstroke": Deadpool and Deathstroke find wanted posters of each other and so try to collect a bounty. Deadpool is also upset that Deathstroke's bounty is $10 higher than his.
  • "Kirby vs. Majin Buu": Buu turned some of Popstar's residents into sweets, but Kirby eats them up before Buu can. Enraged at being denied his food, Buu decides to kill him.
  • "Ragna vs. Sol Badguy": Sol Badguy sees Ragna the Bloodedge's wanted poster, then sees Ragna walking by, so he confronts him. Ragna is not at all amused.
  • "Gaara vs. Toph": Toph intrudes on a plot of land that, according to Gaara, is sacred ground. When told to leave, Toph refuses to comply, so Gaara takes to making Toph leave by force.
  • "Chuck Norris vs. Segata Sanshiro": Chuck Norris is watching Delta Force in the log cabin he built before he was born, and his TV is assaulted with Segata Sanshiro commercials. Chuck tries to turn the TV off only for Sanshiro to burst out of it and throw a Saturn at Chuck. Chuck crushes the Saturn into a fine dust of diamonds, naturally enraging the Saturn mascot Segata.
  • "Guts vs. Nightmare": Nightmare has gathered shards of Soul Edge in the woods and absorbs them to complete the blade. Guts walks up and orders him to get out of his way or else. Nightmare is infuriated and attacks. Guts is most likely hostile since he sees Nightmare as the same class of demon Guts fights on a daily basis.
  • "Iron Man vs. Lex Luthor": Lex Luthor breaks into Stark Industries and tries to steal a crystal, killing two guards in the process, so Iron Man moves to stop him.
  • "Solid Snake vs. Sam Fisher": Solid Snake infiltrates a building to steal data from its computer, only to find that Sam Fisher got there first, put the data on a flash drive, and destroyed the computer. Snake attacks him to retrieve the flash drive. Fisher says he has to kill Snake before escaping because it is too risky to allow anyone to know he was there.
  • "Darth Vader vs. Doctor Doom": Doom invades Vader's space station, even killing an officer that Vader was choking anyways. The ending reveals that Doom wanted to absorb Vader's army into his own Latverian Empire, which he successfully does.
  • "Goku vs. Superman 2": Continuing where their last battle left off, shortly after the planet is restored by the Dragon Balls, Goku meets Superman and challenges him to a rematch. Superman is willing to kill this time is because he fears Goku would destroy the Earth again — though Death Battle rules say Thou Shalt Not Kill never applies to the characters who are fighting anyway.
  • "Donkey Kong vs. Knuckles": While exploring, Knuckles stumbles upon Donkey Kong's banana horde and eats one. An angry Donkey Kong attacks him.
  • "Wolverine vs. Raiden": Raiden is on a mission and battles some Gekko Bots, when Wolverine appears and destroys one. Confused, Raiden asks who he is and tells him to get out of his way, but Wolverine says he's next and attacks.
  • "Hercule Satan vs. Dan Hibiki": Dan Hibiki is Hercule Satan's next challenger in the World Martial Arts Tournament.
  • "Yang vs. Tifa": Yang breaks into a bar by beating up the front guard and enters saying she is looking for someone. Tifa, who is also a bouncer, orders her to leave, and attacks when Yang refuses to comply.
  • "Pokemon vs. Digimon": While wandering the wilderness, Red sees Agumon and mistakes him for a Pokemon. He tries to catch him, which doesn't work. When Tai shows up, Red calls out Charizard and challenges Tai to a battle.

    Season 3 
  • "Dante vs. Bayonetta": Dante is on a mission to retrieve the Left Eye of the World, thinking it is an artifact and unaware it is Bayonetta herself. He enters Bayonetta's church asking about it, prompting her to attack him.
  • "Bowser vs. Ganon": Bowser's minions somehow steal the Triforce of Power and deliver it to him. Before he can celebrate, Ganon teleports in, recovers the Triforce, and vaporizes the minions. Bowser attacks him.
  • "Ratchet & Clank vs. Jak & Daxter": Ratchet and Clank crash land on Jak and Daxter's village, destroying a few buildings in the process. Jak is enraged and refuses to accept their apologies. Daxter is enraged when Clank mistakes him for a weasel.
  • "Flash vs. Quicksilver": The Avengers show up to deal with a burning building. When a girl falls off the building, Flash and Quicksilver arrive at the same time. The egotistical Quicksilver cannot stand anyone stealing his spotlight and challenges Flash for the right to save the girl. Since they are both moving at super speed, time seems to be frozen, so the girl is suspended in midair while they fight.
  • "Joker vs. Sweet Tooth": While joyriding in the Jokermobile, The Joker swipes the ice cream Sweet Tooth was about to eat. Enraged, Sweet Tooth vows to kill him.
  • "Mewtwo vs. Shadow": Shadow explores the cave Mewtwo lives in and finds a Chaos Emerald. A Zubat flies near the crystal and an annoyed Shadow tries to blast it away. Mewtwo blocks the attack and says Shadow is trespassing. Offended at being ordered to leave, Shadow attacks.
  • "Carolina vs. Meta": Simmons and Grif are debating on whether Agent Carolina or The Meta would win in a fight. To settle it, Caboose calls Command to send in Wiz and Boomstick. After presenting their research and analysis, Wiz and Boomstick play a simulation of the fight. In the simulation itself, Carolina is training in the Mother of Invention when The Meta, having acquired all the other AI, attacks her, aiming to acquire the Epsilon AI to complete himself.
  • "Cammy vs. Sonya": Cammy White breaks into a base and arrests Kano, but when she tries to take him away, Sonya Blade shows up and kills him. They argue about their organizations getting in each other's way and fight.
  • "Tracer vs. Scout": Tracer steals a briefcase from RED Team's base, so Scout attacks her to get it back. Scout also tries to hit on Tracer, which creeps her out and gives her an incentive to attack him.
  • "Ken vs. Terry": Ken Masters is sparring with his friends in his dojo and winning easily. Bored, he asks if there are any real challengers. Terry Bogard walks in and accepts the challenge.
  • "Amy Rose vs. Ramona Flowers": Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers are chilling out and practicing guitar in a warehouse when Sonic busts in, running from Amy as usual. His entrance knocks Scott and Ramona over and Scott out cold, and then Amy comes in and looks around in confusion and anger at losing him yet again, Ramona, likely thinking she was responsible, attacks her, prompting Amy to bring out her own hammer in defense.
  • "Hulk vs. Doomsday": Doomsday, encased in a meteorite, lands in a city and immediately starts killing everyone in sight. Since Hulk is a hero, he is summoned by the Avengers to save the day. Since Doomday is programmed to kill anything that lives, he attacks Hulk automatically.
  • "Zoro vs. Erza": Zoro gets lost (nothing unusual for him) looking for a shipyard. He collides with Erza and asks her directions, but Erza has a wanted poster of Zoro and requests him to go with her peacefully. When Zoro refuses, Erza starts to fight.
  • "Deadpool vs. Pinkie Pie": Deadpool falls through a portal and lands in Ponyville, claiming that the folks behind Death Battle abducted him and forced him to participate in another battle. Pinkie Pie attempts to welcome the newcomer, but Deadpool gets annoyed and tries to leave. Offended, Pinkie says she'll make him accept her invitation to be friends and attacks.

    Season 4 
  • "Nathan Drake vs. Lara Croft": Nathan climbs to the top of a temple to retrieve the Holy Grail and takes it. From right behind him Lara, who was also searching for the Grail, draws her pistols and demands Nathan give it to her.
  • "Scrooge McDuck vs. Shovel Knight": Shovel Knight enters Scrooge McDuck's home after following a trail of gems. Scrooge catches him collecting his treasure and angrily attacks.
  • "Venom vs. Bane": Bane and his minions attempt to rob a shipment of weapons. Venom shows up and slaughters his minions, then attacks him.
  • "Power Rangers vs. Voltron": The Voltron Force investigates a canyon after hearing rumors of dinosaurs being spotted here. The Power Rangers teleport in, summon their Zords, and just start attacking. No dialogue or anything to suggest that they perceive the Voltron Force as a possible threat.
  • "Natsu vs. Ace": Ace steals food from a restaurant. Natsu shows up and demands he return the food, but Ace immediately eats it, angering him.
  • "Sub-Zero vs. Glacius": Glacius' ship crash lands in Lin Kuei territory. Sub-Zero investigates the site and attacks the being, seeing him as an invader.
  • "Android 18 vs. Captain Marvel": Android 18 and Captain Marvel both find a Dragon Ball in the wasteland and fight over who gets to keep it.
  • "Metal Sonic vs. Zero": Metal Sonic is rampaging through Central Highway. Zero is called in to deal with the supposed Maverick.
  • "Lucario vs. Renamon": Renamon explores a temple and finds Lucario meditating. She asks who he is, and when he doesn't answer, gets angry and attacks.
  • "Balrog vs. TJ Combo": TJ Combo is Heavyweight Champ Balrog's next challenger. While it is a standard boxing match at first, Balrog eventually loses his temper and takes out the referee, turning it into a fight to the death.
  • "Shredder vs. Silver Samurai": Silver Samurai is training in the woods when Foot Clan robots drill into the area and attack him. He destroys them with ease, then Shredder arrives to take him on personally.
  • "Smokey Bear vs. McGruff the Crime Dog": McGruff walks through the woods and spots an abandoned campfire. After lecturing the audience, he tries to walk away as it spreads and sets the forest ablaze. Smokey yells at him for not putting it out and attacks.
  • "Thor vs. Wonder Woman": Wonder Woman is training on Themyscira when Thor suddenly teleports near her. She warns him men are not allowed on the island without an invitation. He gives no explanation for why he is there but gives her a chance to stand down, which she doesn't take.
  • "Naruto vs. Ichigo": Ichigo stumbles upon Naruto and mistakes him for a Hollow due to sensing Kurama the Nine-Tailed Fox's energy. Naruto can't see or hear Ichigo, but Kurama can and instructs Naruto to defend himself from the spirit attacking him.
  • "Batman Beyond vs. Spider-Man 2099": While Batman Beyond watches over the city while standing on a gargoyle, Spider-Man 2099 swings by and his web dislodges the gargoyle and almost makes Batman fall. Angered, Batman demands to know who he is and what he is doing in his city, but Spider-Man attacks. Based on his comments to his suit's AI Lyla, Spider-Man thinks Batman is some kind of vampire.
  • "Sephiroth vs. Vergil": Vergil is wandering when he runs into Sephiroth, who challenges him to a fight after sensing his strength.

    Season 5 
  • "Batman vs. Black Panther": Both combatants arrive at a zoo to fight each other.
  • "Raven vs. Twilight Sparkle": In Ponyville, Twilight Sparkle was reading a book about transdimensional teleportation. She accidentally summons Raven, who was playing with pony figures. Ashamed, Raven decides to eliminate the witness.
  • "Jotaro vs. Kenshiro": Jotaro Kujo and his grandfather Joseph Joestar are wandering the desert and approach a pyramid. Kenshiro drives up and almost hits them with his car. Angered, Joseph challenges him, but Jotaro says the old man doesn't stand a chance and challenges Kenshiro in his place.
  • "Crash vs. Spyro": Spyro and Sparx find Crash jumping on some crates. Intrigued by the bandicoot, the dragonfly tries to interact with Crash but the latter, bothered by Sparx, kills him like a bug. Of course, Spyro gets mad and attacks his brother's killer.
  • "Sora vs. Pit": Sora competes in the Olympus Colosseum and Pit is his next opponent.
  • "Leon vs. Frank": Frank West is looting a zombie-infested city when Leon catches him in the act. Leon says he's supposed to be out of the city and Frank attacks in response.
  • "Doctor Strange vs. Doctor Fate": Doctor Fate attacks Doctor Strange because according to the former, there can't be two Sorcerer Supremes in the same existence.
  • "Ryu vs. Jin": Ryu is training in his dojo when Jin bursts in and disrespectfully boasts that he is the superior fighter. Ryu tells him to prove it.
  • "Samurai Jack vs. Afro Samurai": Samurai Jack and Afro Samurai encounter each other on a rope bridge. Jack tells Afro that the latter's sword smells of blood, and Afro responds that Jack's sword does too.
  • "Carnage vs. Lucy": Nyu is waiting for a train, and the one that arrives has just been ravaged by Carnage. As the door opens, Carnage finds Nyu waiting and attacks her, but Lucy takes over and fights back.
  • "Opimus Prime vs. Gundam": Amuro Ray in his Gundam explores the Autobot Ark, defying Sayla's orders to return to base, and runs into Optimus Prime. Amuro thinks Optimus is an enemy Mobile Suit, while Optimus thinks the Gundam is a Decepticon.
  • "Nightwing vs. Daredevil": Daredevil breaks into a garage and pulls a case out of a car. Nightwing shows up and says Daredevil is interfering with his investigation.
  • "Mario vs. Sonic": Mario is about to spend some time in the sun on a beach, when Sonic shows up out of nowhere and takes his chair. Angry, Mario closes the chair on Sonic and kicks him, starting the fight.
  • "Ultron vs. Sigma": Sigma's Mavericks are causing havoc on Central Highway when Ultron appears and destroys Vile and Volt Kraken, demanding submission from the other Mavericks. Sigma then appears and Ultron responds by summoning his army of drones, which starts the fight.
  • "Roshi vs. Jiraiya": Master Roshi enters Jiraiya's store and checks out one of his erotic novels. He walks up to Jiraiya and complains that the book has no pictures, then throws the book down and stomps on it, enraging Jiraiya.
  • "Thanos vs. Darkseid": You could say they were fighting over Thanos's throne, which Deadpool had been trying to sell to Darkseid. But it was bound to happen once they met anyway, since the universe isn't big enough for two guys who both want everyone else in it to kneel before them.

    Season 6 
  • "Aquaman vs. Namor": Namor is relaxing near a swimming pool when Aquaman does a cannonball and splashes him. Namor, known for his Hair-Trigger Temper, says he will pay with his life for that insult. Namor also wants to prove which of them deserves to be the true ruler of the seas.
  • "Black Widow vs. Widowmaker": Widowmaker snipes a man whom Black Widow was guarding, then tries to tie up loose ends by sniping her too.
  • "Captain Marvel vs. Shazam": Shazam is walking in the street, screwing around when he accidentally hits an ATM, letting money go loose. While trying to fix it, Captain Marvel sees him and thinks that Billy is a criminal. Shazam tries to escape but Carol catches up to him, beginning the fight.
  • "Wario vs. King Dedede": Wario and King Dedede are facing each other in a steel cage match in Dedede's castle. During the match, they have flashbacks to times they wronged each other, fueling their anger.
  • "Ben 10 vs. Green Lantern": Ben, as XLR8, was running around when Green Lantern apprehends him, with the intent of separating him from the Omnitrix as it is a dangerous alien weapon. Ben apparently sees Hal as another villain who wants to use it, so he transforms and fights him.
  • "Johnny Cage vs. Captain Falcon": Johnny Cage goes to Big Blue and says he's going to play Captain Falcon in a movie. Captain Falcon, who is within earshot of Cage, says he wants to see if Johnny is actually worthy of playing him and attacks.
  • "Aang vs. Edward Elric": Aang is playing with Momo in an empty market and calls him too little. Edward, who was apparently hiding in one of the stands, overhears Aang's comment and angrily fights him because he thought Aang was calling Edward little.
  • "Ghost Rider vs. Lobo": Ghost Rider confronts Lobo to punish him for his sins.
  • "Sasuke vs. Hiei": Hiei wanders a forest when Sasuke shows up and says he is trespassing. Hiei ignores him, so Sasuke threatens him, to which Hiei responds with an attack.
  • "Ganondorf vs. Dracula": Ganondorf storms Dracula's castle, challenging him with the intent of taking control over it.
  • "Mob vs Tatsumaki": Mob gets lost and wanders the city until he runs into Tatsumaki. He mistakes her for a middle school student and asks for directions. She gets angry that he thought she was a kid and blasts him into a wall. He calls her out on misusing her powers and decides to fight back.
  • "Deadpool vs The Mask": Deadpool tries to steal the Mask from a building (saying in his mind they don't have the budget for a long story to set up the battle), but drops it and it lands on a bus passenger, transforming him. Deadpool attacks, demanding he take off the Mask and give it to him.
  • "All Might vs Might Guy": Might Guy is reading in a park when All Might makes a dramatic entrance. Impressed by All Might's style and muscles, Guy challenges him to an arm wrestling match. It ends in a draw when the table breaks, so they decide to settle it with a fight.

    Season 7 
  • "Miles Morales vs Static": The fight begins with Static already chasing down and attacking Miles Morales, who had mistaken Static for the villain Electro and attacked him. Miles tries to apologize, but Static is still angry and keeps attacking.
  • "Black Canary vs. Sindel": Black Canary takes part in an Outworld tournament overseen by Shao Kahn, and Sindel is her next opponent.
  • "Leonardo vs. Jason": Jason was running one night in New York City and accidentally bumped into Leo, making the latter drop his pizza. Jason then mistakes Leo for one of Rita Repulsa's goons, making the two come to blows.
  • "Genos vs. War Machine": War Machine is cruising through the sky when he sees and investigates an explosion. He finds Genos who just had a battle and reprimands him for property damage. Genos mistakes him for a cyborg enemy and attacks.
  • "Gray Fullbuster vs. Esdeath": Esdeath arrives at the shores of Fiore and intends to conquer it with her Ice Cavalry. Gray intercepts her and orders her to stop. She gets pissed off when he takes off his shirt and attacks.
  • "Goro vs. Machamp": Goro is admiring his trophies in his lair when a Machamp burst from the ceiling ready to fight. Goro assumes the Machamp to be a deformed Shokan and ask him to leave, with Machamp refusing, leading Goro to teach it a lesson.
  • "Cable vs. Booster Gold": Booster Gold is being showered with praise for catching a criminal when Cable appears near him via time travel. Booster Gold tells him to quit hogging his spotlight. Cable dismisses him as an idiot, but Booster Gold believes Cable wants to "fight" him for a street cred boost and dramatically "accepts". Cable, thoroughly done at this point, declares he'll stain the pavement with Booster's blood and socks him as Booster realizes this is for real now.
  • "Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Kakashi": Obi-Wan's starfighter crash-lands in Konoha territory. Kakashi tells him to come with him for questioning, but he tries to brush it off with a Jedi Mind Trick, whereupon Kakashi attacks.
  • "Danny Phantom vs. Jake Long": After recovering a stolen artifact, Danny goes to the museum it came from to put it back in its rightful place. Before he can finish the job, however, Jake steps in and thinks Danny is stealing the artifact, prompting him to attack.
  • "She-Ra vs. Wonder Woman": Adora and Diana are preparing to duel in a Themysciran arena for some reason. Diana is disparaging of She-Ra's boasts of power, and swords start clashing.
  • "Beerus vs. Sailor Galaxia": Beerus is sitting on a beach, eating an ice cream cone when Galaxia blows up the Earth. Beerus confronts Galaxia (about his lost ice cream cone), who attacks him, and he starts fighting back.
  • "Zuko vs. Todoroki": Zuko is practicing his fire bending in the woods when a stray blast almost hits a wandering Todoroki. Todoroki assumes he is a villain despite Zuko's attempts to apologize and attacks. Todoroki is also angry because Zuko's fire powers remind him of his father Endeavor, whom he hates.
  • "Wally West vs. Archie Sonic": Wally and Sonic are racing each other. Sonic decides to eat a chili dog, but Wally snatches out of his hand and eats it himself, enraging him.
  • "Winter Soldier vs. Red Hood": The Winter Soldier is sent to assassinate the Red Hood. In this case, this reason is not revealed at the beginning of the fight.
  • "Venom vs. Crona": Eddie Brock is praying in a church when Crona enters saying they want to be alone. Eddie turns into Venom and intends to devour them, so Crona and Ragnarok fight back.
  • "Sabrewulf vs. Talbain": Jon Talbain catches Sabrewulf eating some humans, having apparently lost control of his instincts. Sabrewulf begs for forgiveness, but Talbain says This Is Unforgivable! and calls him a monster. Enraged, Sabrewulf attacks him.
  • "Red vs. Blue": The Red Team sends a fake weather report saying it will rain. Caboose, being Caboose, takes the Blue Team's flag outside, believing that's what you are supposed to do when it rains, allowing the Reds to steal it. The Blues give chase.
  • "Batgirl vs. Spider-Gwen": Spider-Gwen accidentally teleports into the Batcave when trying to reach Miles Morales, causing Batgirl to attack her as an intruder.
  • "Sanji vs. Rock Lee": Sanji serves Rock Lee curry, but after tasting it, Lee insults it, enraging Sanji and prompting him to attack.
  • "Hulk vs. Broly": Broly was simply relaxing in silence, petting deer. Hulk arrives on the planet in an explosion, scaring the deer away, causing Broly to become angry. Hulk takes this as a challenge, telling Broly, "Show me."

    Season 8 
  • "Yoda vs. King Mickey": Yoda flies in a Starfighter until he arrives at a Station of Awakening where King Mickey waits. Yoda says this place was hard to find. After complementing each other's abilities and positions, they challenge each other.
  • "Shadow vs. Ryuko": Ryuko is driving on her motorbike when Shadow in his own motorcycle cuts her off. Ryuko yells at him, but Shadow says he doesn't care. Ryuko transforms Senketsu despite his attempt to reason with her and attacks.
  • "Lex Luthor vs. Doctor Doom": Doctor Doom invades Lex Luthor's office and declares he will claim LexCorp's resources for Latveria. Lex retorts that he will claim Latveria for LexCorp and fights back.
  • "Heihachi vs. Geese": Heihachi and Geese are the finalists of a collaboration of their respective tournaments, with the prize being sole ownership of both the Mishima Zaibatsu and Howard Connection for the winner.
  • "Blake vs. Mikasa": Blake is reading a book when Mikasa shows up and says the Titans are coming and civilians were supposed to have evacuated hours ago. Blake ignores her, so Mikasa shoots the book out of her hand. Blake attacks, saying to leave her alone.
  • "Iron Fist vs. Po": Po walks in on Iron Fist training and is amazed and asks who he is. Iron Fist says he is The Dragon, and Po says he is one too. They decide to spar.
  • "Steven Universe vs. Star Butterfly": Steven and Star are in a sand castle building contest on the beach. Star attempts to cheat using her magic wand, but makes her sand castle too big and it collapses and buries Steven. She tries to apologize, but he picks her up and places her far away. She tries to cheer him up with the Cupcake Blast spell, but he deflects it with his shield and reluctantly starts fighting while demanding that she stop.
  • "Link vs. Cloud (2021)": Cloud is driving Fenrir through a tunnel when Link comes up behind him on the Master Cycle Zero and challenges him.
  • "Batman vs. Iron Man": The Avengers are concerned about the Justice League's Watchtower, so they send Iron Man to take it offline. There, he encounters Batman alone, who refuses to comply with Tony's warning. Batman tries to contact the other League members, but Iron Man has already disabled the communications, leaving the battle one to one.
  • "Goku Black vs. Reverse Flash": Reverse Flash is sitting on a bench reading a newspaper about how the Flash accidentally killed Quicksilver and laughs, claiming credit for the deed. Goku Black appears in the city through a portal drinking tea, then says he will give the mortal sinners divine justice and starts killing people with ki blasts. When Reverse Flash has to dodge a ki blast (or was just annoyed by Goku Black interrupting his day), he angrily knocks the tea cup out of Black's hand, angering Black.
  • "Dio vs. Alucard": Dio is feasting on a victim inside a car when Alucard shows up and shoots it, causing the car to crash. Dio emerges from the wreckage and chastises him for interrupting his dinner, but Alucard says he's going to feed on him, Dio challenging him to do so.
  • "Akuma vs. Shao Khan": Akuma intrudes on the Mortal Kombat tournament and kills a fighter. Shao Khan yells at him for interrupting the tournament and asks if he seeks his throne. Akuma says he only seeks his life and attacks.
  • "Korra vs. Storm": Korra is trying to meditate, but becomes bored and accidentally breaks an iceberg. Storm shows up and says she is strong, but lacks discipline. Korra is offended by this and challenges her to a fight.
  • "Madara vs. Aizen": Aizen is wandering the human world when Madara out of nowhere blasts him with fire. Realizing the human can see him, Aizen draws his blade and they fight.
  • "Saitama vs. Popeye": Saitama is shopping when he sees cans of spinach on sale, causing him to lament about how expensive they are. An image of Popeye on the can comes to life and says he cannot tolerate anyone insulting his spinach and punches him.

    Season 9 
  • "Harley Quinn vs. Jinx": Harley enters an abandoned amusement park to play, but Jinx shows up and starts blowing it up, specifically the teddy bear Harley had just won, leading to a fight.
  • "Scarlet Witch vs. Zatanna": Scarlet Witch crashes Zatanna's magic show and insults her. Enraged, Zatanna attacks, leading to the fight.
  • "Tanjiro Kamado vs. Jonathan Joestar": Jonathan mistakes Nezuko for one of Dio's vampiric minions and attacks her. Tanjiro steps in to defend his sister and Jonathan thinks he is an innocent under Nezuko's mind control, so he decides he must "free" him by any means necessary.
  • "Thor vs. Vegeta": Thor is in the forest and chops down a tree to haul it away. He stumbles upon Vegeta training and hurls his hammer to get his attention, asking who he is and what he is doing on Earth. Vegeta is pissed that the hammer almost took his head off and threatens Thor not to throw the hammer at him again. Thor has his hammer return to him, once again nearly hitting Vegeta, and jokingly asks if that counted. Angered, Vegeta attacks.
  • "Omni-Man vs. Homelander": Omni-Man returns to his house and ends up encountering Homelander inside who's drinking hot chocolate while wearing a Santa hat. The Supe tells the Viltrumite to leave the country as he's threatening Homelander's position as America's protector and as motivation had murdered Nolan's wife Debbie prior to his arrival. Nolan states that he will make Homelander choke on his own heart before attacking.
  • "Magneto vs. Tetsuo": Magneto has just arrived in Neo-Tokyo, disdaining the humans for not recognizing mutant superiority. Tetsuo shows up and attacks, yelling at him to get out of his territory.
  • "Hercules vs. Sun Wukong": Hercules climbs a mountain and runs into Sun Wukong. Hercules asks for the apple Sun is holding. Sun says the apple is a gift for his master, and when Hercules insists with his weapon drawn, tries to trick him with his hair disguised as an apple. Hercules sees through the ploy and crushes the illusion, revealing it's the Monkey King's hair. After Hercules sees through his trick, Sun leaps down to attack.
  • "Boba Fett vs. The Predator": Boba Fett lands in a forest and explores it as the Predator stalks him while invisible. Fett finds several human corpses the Predator has strung up. The Predator tries to shoot him in the back with his shoulder cannon, but Fett dodges and counterattacks.
  • "Excalibur vs. Raiden": Raiden stumbles upon a Foundry in process of building something while patrolling the city, and when Excalibur and Lotus notice that it's crafting a Warframe, Excalibur leaps in to attack Raiden to defend it. Meanwhile, Wiz and Boomstick have been debating on which of the two would win, and have initiated this battle to find out, with the two later intervening in the fight to try to tip the scales.
  • "James Bond vs. John Wick": James Bond has orders to capture John Wick, but Wick won't come peacefully.
  • "Black Adam vs. Apocalypse": Apocalypse's forces invade Kahndaq and start killing people. Naturally, Black Adam steps up to defend his nation and people. After wiping out the forces, he takes on Apocalypse himself.
  • "Trunks vs. Silver": The battle starts off with Trunks already in hot pursuit after Silver, with the Time Patroller intent on apprehending the hedgehog for unsanctioned time travel.
  • "SpongeBob SquarePants vs. Superfriends Aquaman": Aquaman somehow appears in Bikini Bottom via a portal. The town is somehow wrecked with several people injured, including the "My leg!" guy, while an oblivious SpongeBob thinks he has saved the day (like a typical episode). The sponge mistakes Aquaman for Mermaid Man at first but then realizes he is not him. Aquaman mistakes him for a supervillain after he was bragging about what he did and attacks.
  • "Jason Voorhees vs. Michael Myers": Michael enters Camp Crystal Lake and kills a woman, then tries to make Jason his next victim.
  • "Sauron vs. The Lich King": Sauron approaches the Lich King's throne and challenges him for his kingdom.
  • "Deku vs. Asta": Izuku "Deku" Midoriya and Asta are opponents in the World Martial Arts Tournament to determine Mr. Satan's next opponent.
  • "Gogeta vs. Vegito": After analyzing both Gogeta and Vegito's abilities, Boomstick uses the gathered Dragon Balls from the start of the episode to wish for a Death Battle between the two fusions, with Shenron summoning two versions of Goku and Vegeta at Kami's Lookout to fuse and fight.

    Season 10 
  • "Ant-Man vs. Atom": Hank Pym catches Ray Palmer sneaking into his lab attempting to study his Pym Particles, and suits up to kick him out.
  • "Dark Souls vs. Skyrim": The voice of Darkstalker Kaathe tells the Last Dragonborn to kill the Chosen Undead and stop him from linking the First Flame, claiming he will destroy the world. The voice of Kingseeker Frampt tells the Chosen Undead to kill the Last Dragonborn, claiming he is an agent of Dark.
  • "Killua vs. Misaka": Killua is taking a walk and picks up a Gekota badge on the ground. Misaka walks up and says that belongs to her, but he says if she wants it, come and get it.
  • "Stitch vs. Rocket Raccoon": Rocket is repairing his spaceship in Space Hawaii when Stitch gets launched out of a volcano and collides with the ship, blowing it up. Rocket is angered and attacks, guns blazing. He gets even angrier when Stitch apparently insults his mother.
  • "Darth Vader vs. Obito": Darth Vader flies down to the Naruto world in his TIE fighter and meets Obito, saying he senses his great power and wants it. Obito says he'll have to pry it out of his cold, dead hands, so Vader attacks.
  • "Phoenix vs. Raven": Jean Grey invades Azaroth and apologetically attacks Raven, saying the demon inside her is too dangerous to be left alive. When Raven tries to Mind Rape her, this provokes Phoenix into taking over.
  • "Guts vs. Dimitri": The animation begins with both Guts and Dimitri already in the midst of their clash, with later dialogue implying that Dimitri went after Guts after hearing news of the Black Swordsman's slaughter of numerous men, intent on avenging their deaths.
  • "Martian Manhunter vs. Silver Surfer": This is actually deconstructed here. Silver Surfer in human disguise summons Martian Manhunter, also in human disguise, to an office in space. J'onn demands to know why he called him and attempts to read his mind, leading to Silver Surfer fighting back. Towards the end of the fight, this gets discussed as the Surfer comments that he is not sure why they were compelled to fight in the first place.
  • "Bill Cipher vs. Discord": Bill Cipher has turned Equestria into a World of Chaos with Weirdmageddon in the midst of occurring, having turned most if not all of the pony population into a petrified ensemble of a throne and trapped the Mane Six in Phantom Zone Pictures. Discord takes offense, especially to Fluttershy being harmed, and attacks him. Subverted, in that while Bill was fighting to win the Death Battle, Discord was fighting to beat Bill in terms of the actual plot, meaning for once the plot was actually important beyond the inciting incident.
  • "Cole MacGrath vs. Alex Mercer": Mercer brings down a squadron of helicopters in the middle of a ruined city before consuming the survivors. Cole stops him before he can continue, and Mercer decides to consume him as well.
  • "Frieza vs. Megatron": Frieza travels to Cybertron and declares the planet his new property. Megatron doesn't take kindly to anyone, especially an organic being, claiming his planet.
  • "Gojo vs. Makima": Gojo is dispatched to handle an abnormal curse incident at a mall, which turns out to be Makima enjoying a... familiar movie. Gojo briefly joins in, saying that he's been tasked to kill Makima. This threat, combined with Gojo's lack of manners, angers Makima enough to compel her to attack.
  • "Scooby-Doo VS Courage the Cowardly Dog": While lost in a spooky mansion, both Scooby and Courage run into each other, quite delighted to see each other again. However, a monster, later revealed to be Eustace, reveals itself, scaring the two off as it chases them down. As the two are fleeing, Scooby tells Courage to distract the monster, but Courage instead trips Scooby to get the chance to escape. This only irritates the Great Dane who in return decides to initiate a thumb war with the pink Beagle to decide who has to fight the monster. Scooby wins the thumb war... Only for Courage to start firing a laser gun, thus starting the fight for real.
  • "Rick vs. The Doctor": Morty has accidentally rear-ended the Tardis with the Space Cruiser and Rick complains about how Time Lords never seemed to hear of rear-view mirrors after shutting his grandson up about the mistake. The Doctor berates Rick for the complaint and the both of them for hitting him, and ends up pissing Rick off by treating him like an afterthought, leading Rick to give chase.
  • "Goku vs. Superman 3": It starts with them already fighting. Goku says they will finally settle which one of them is stronger. Superman accepts this and they agree to use the Dragon Balls to restore any damage done.
  • "Galactus vs. Unicron": Galactus and Unicron arrive and attempt to feed on Earth at the same time, leading to them fighting when Unicron smashes Earth against Galactus out of spite.
