The Hulk reverts to savagery across eight issues.

Marvel Comics often used custom corner-box art on its comic covers to reflect ongoing events.

  • The X-Men, The Avengers, and Fantastic Four comics had its corner-box art adjusted to reflect changes in their respective rosters, usually with a collection of headshots of each team member. This "floating head" method was further developed by John Byrne and would be used by him for his runs on each respective book.
  • The Incredible Hulk #292-300 (1983-84) starts off with comic corner-box art of the Hulk (seen above), who at the time possessed Bruce Banner's brain, wearing lab clothes and handling chemicals. The art displayed the Hulk dropping the chemicals, becoming enraged, and tearing off his clothes, reflecting the arc that saw the Hulk lose control and return to savagery, thanks to the manipulations of Nightmare.
    • The Incredible Hulk #354-363 (1989) had corner-box art of the Hulk in his Joe Fixit persona, reflecting him having that persona in control at the time.
    • The Countdown event the Hulk faced in 1990 had corner-box art of an hourglass.
    • The Incredible Hulk #368-369 (1990) afterwards had the Gray Hulk tearing his clothes, reverting to the classic angry man Hulk.
  • Magik #1-4 (1983), Ilyana Rasputin’s comic about her time in Limbo, had corner box art of her growing into a sorceress and then the Darkchylde.
  • The Master of Kung Fu comic’s corner-box art of Shang-Chi had the lighting/coloring change to reflect various moods from issues #91-125 (1980-83).
  • The Mighty Thor #337, which debuted Beta Ray Bill in 1983, had the comic's title logo and corner box smashed to pieces courtesy of Bill.
    • The next issue, #338, would debut a new logo and a new corner-box featuring Bill.
    • #340, which was the finale of Bill’s first encounter with Thor and Asgard, features the hammers of Thor and Bill, Mjolnir and Stormbreaker, put together in a cross formation as a sign of brotherhood.
    • The Mighty Thor #380-388 (1987-88) had Thor don special battle armor to protect his body after a damaging battle. The corner-box art in those issues adjusts to show him in this armor.
  • The Secret Empire series features Captain America's shield in the title undergo an evolution to reflect Capt Rogers' HYDRA alliance and takeover, and later on the real Steve Rogers' return to stop the Hydra variant that had usurped him.
