Disney and Pixar:

  • Atlantis: The Lost Empire:
    • The prologue was going to show a group of vikings using the Shepherd's Journal and encountering the Leviathan instead of the Great Flood.
  • The Emperor's New Groove:
    • Pacha and his llama Misty see Kuzco's guards destroy a fake village. This scene was fully animated and colored before being cut for being too dark for the movie.
    • Kuzco decides to build Kuzcotopia on a different hill, near Pacha's village. This was cut because it made it feel as if Kuzco hadn't learned anything from his ordeal.
  • Frozen was initially going to have a narration by a troll with a Brooklyn accent at the start of the film, explaining that a child is born with ice powers every 1,000 years during a Saturn alignment. It was decided not to include it because of questions it could raise about the rules of the magical nature of the world, and instead deciding to just state that Elsa was born with them in the film itself and explain the full circumstances later.
  • The Incredibles:
    • An alternate opening included Bob and Helen attending a barbecue, and Syndrome, who was a small-time recurring villain of Mr. Incredible, breaking in to the Parr Home. He was looking for a baby Violet, since Syndrome claimed Supers were not allowed to breed.
    • While waiting in traffic, Bob helps to catch a criminal on a motorcycle, but is not acknowledged for it.
    • After feeling suspicious about their marriage, Helen confronts Bob asking if he's been cheating on her. Bob denies it, leaving Helen to feel bad about their argument.
    • Gilbert Huph's memory wipe at the hands of Rick Dicker was cut. It was assumed anyway that he had his memory wiped as a result of Bob exposing himself as a Super when he threw Huph through several walls.
    • Helen was to have a nightmare where Bob was surrounded by several women, due to her being worried about Bob cheating oh him.
    • Snug Porter was to fly the plain to Nomanisan Island instead of Helen, with Snug dying as a result of the plane being blown up by Syndrome's missles. Multiple scenes of character development for Snug would have to be created, which the producers felt would have taken away the focus from the main characters, so this scene was not created.
    • Syndrome was to send out some of his men to search for Helen, Violet and Dash after their jet was destroyed.
  • Incredibles 2:
    • The opening of the film was going to be right after the Parrs get Jack-Jack back. Since phones aren't portable at the time, they had to find a way to call Rick without being seen. Violet uses the landline phone from someone else's house to call Rick Dicker to pick them up.
    • Honey, Frozone's wife, was going to make a physical appearance during the introduction, but Brad Bird thought it would've been funnier if Honey only made an off-screen appearance.
    • Violet and Dash were going to be interrogated by the police, but this was cut in favour of just their parents being interroaged.
    • Kari, Jack-Jack's babysitter from the first film, was going to make an appearance along with her parents, who report that she hasn't been the same since she babysat Jack-Jack.
    • Originally, on Elastigirl's first day, she was going to help Winston get some footage for a TV show. Unfortunately, Elastigirl fights the crimes too fast for anything interesting to happen.
    • When Bob visited Edna, her security system was to malfunction and attack Bob. Bob and Edna would have to escape her defenses and shut off the security system.
    • Bob and Jack-Jack were to show up at a fashion show Edna was attending.
    • While Bob and Jack-Jack go into the bathroom at The Happy Platter, there is a robbery in the restaurant. Dash and Violet were to stop the robber. The main problem with this scene was that Violet would strip naked since she didn't have her supersuit with her.
    • Winston was to hold a show where Supers auditioned. When one of the Supers was rejected, he attacked Winston.
    • All of the Supers were to go to a memorial service for the Supers who died ever since they were forced underground.
  • Lilo & Stitch:
  • The Lion King had Nala being near Timon and Pumbaa's Oasis for no discernable reason (which resulted in her nearly killing Pumbaa before re-encountering Simba). A deleted scene (and deleted song, called "The Madness of King Scar") revealed that the reason she was there was because Scar had exiled her from the Pridelands due to her refusing Scar's proposal to have her become his queen (with the implication that he attempted to rape her). The scene was retained in the musical, however.
  • In The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea, the Villain Song "Gonna Get My Wish" is cut.
  • In Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, much as been said about the fact that the Prince kisses Snow White while she's assumed dead: YES, we know it will revive her since we saw the Witch worrying about that when she was preparing the spell, but he didn't. Actually, a scene where the Witch was holding the Prince prisoner, in which she would have inadvertently told him about the way to break the spell, was scrapped because the animators didn't manage to animate the Prince convincingly. This scene, however, survived in the comic strip adaptation and was reworked into the similar scene where Maleficent holds Prince Philipp prisoner in Sleeping Beauty.
  • Toy Story 2:
    • The toys had a playtime sequence in Andy's room which led to Woody being launched out the window and landing in the yard sale by accident.
    • A hidden one can be found on the DVD where Andy's Buzz has an encounter with Zurg inside Al's Toy Barn.
  • Treasure Planet:
    • An older Jim Hawkins narrated an alternate prologue that ends where Jim gets sent to the Benbow Inn after solar cruising.
    • Another alternate opening has Jim test out his solar cruiser. It is an homage to The Catcher in the Rye.
  • Turning Red:
    • Concept art and snippets shown in the official trailer and Embrace the Panda: Making Turning Red reveals a cut scene that featured Mei and her friends protesting for the environment.
    • There was originally a fully animated sequence of the photoshoot that produced the Happy New Year 1994 photo in the intro.
  • Wish (2023):
    • An alternate confrontation between Asha and Magnifico featured Asha trying to trick Magnifico into thinking Valentino was Star, while the real Star worked with Dahlia and Gabo to free the wishes. Magnifico, however, doesn't fall for it and eats the wishes, gaining a One-Winged Angel form.

Other animated films:

  • Arlo the Alligator Boy: One scene fully animated and recorded which did not appear in the final product appeared in-between the point Arlo spots the barn and when Furlecia is introduced: Bertie mentions people aren't really her thing before Arlo is already in, before coming out briefly to thank Bertie for riding the train with him. Bertie then amusingly thinks there's something wrong with him.
  • In Eight Crazy Nights, there was originally going to be a scene where Davey coaches the basketball team against prisoners. It involved a lot of cartoonish antics (including a scene where one of the kids is decapitated but gets better), and at the end, they bring their secret weapon: a giant man named Hammer, who is knocked unconscious by a basketball to the face.
  • Hoodwinked! had several of its songs trimmed.
    • For instance, in "Great Big World", we cut from Red being carried on her bike by hummingbirds over a creek to her coming to a stop at the top of a hill overlooking a valley. There's a deleted second verse (which can also be heard on the soundtrack) showing Red making deliveries.
    • In "Be Prepared," a small part of the first bridge leading to the chorus was restored, which fills up why Japeth is seen standing on the floor of the shack and suddenly is standing on a chair.
    • In the "Schnitzel Song," there is a shot of the children throwing their schnitzel sticks into the air and cheering. It is revealed that they were watching Kirk and two kids do tapdancing.
  • The Iron Giant:
    • Two which were animated for the Signature Edition: one in which the Giant has a dream flashing back to its origin as one of an army who destroyed other alien worlds and another in which Annie and Dean chat about Hogarth at the diner, developing their relationship.
    • One scene in which Hogarth and Annie briefly talk about his deceased father after getting their car out of a mud puddle.
    • The original opening had the Giant crashing down on a much larger sea crew as they were caught in the eye of the storm.
    • Another scene would have shown how Hogarth's above-average intelligence made him unpopular at school, explaining why he didn't have any friends his age. It also would have shown more of Cloris Leachman's performance as Hogarth's teacher. In the movie proper, this is relegated to a passing line during Hogarth's espresso-fueled monologue and Leachman's role was reduced to a single line ("Don't make me come over there!")
  • My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Friendship Games had an entire subplot lopped out and changed. The subplot would have had Sunset Shimmer angsting about returning to Equestria. She would have wrote to Princess Twilight Sparkle for advice (who would help her instead of leaving her hanging due to the events of "The Cutie Re-Mark") and have a duet with the Human Twilight Sparkle. The ending would have had Sunset deciding to stay as the Human Twilight Sparkle returned to Crystal Prep, her former tormentors becoming her new friends.

  • The CBS broadcast of The Rugrats Movie included two scenes that were cut from the theatrical and video releases - the first one is about Stu and Didi having a nightmare about Dr. Lipschitz, and the second had the Rugrats dragging the Reptar Wagon up a hill while singing to an army chant, the latter of which was included in the print novelization. Unfortunately, very few people watched the CBS broadcast, and these scenes are also not included on the DVD release. However, they have been retained in Nickelodeon's broadcasts of the film until 2018 when the network started airing the widescreen master. However, the post credits scene was strangely cut from those airings too.
  • A scene cut from the initial airing of Turtles Forever had Karai explaining how she found Ch'rell and the Technodome.
  • The original print of Yellow Submarine had the scene of the Beatles doing the first verse of "Baby You're a Rich Man," which freed Sgt. Pepper's Band from the glass ball followed by the boys incursing into Meanie territory and Ringo reuniting with the Boob. The 1999 re-release has the previously edited scenes of the two bands making their game plan followed by the "Hey Bulldog" sequence where they flummox the Meanies' multi-headed dog.
