Main installments:

    Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
  • The executions, obviously. Each execution is specifically tailored to its victim, save the ones in the intro and Chapter 5. In order:
    • The Headmaster (Jin Kirigiri): Tied into a rocket, shot into space, and then sent crashing back to Earth, with the heat from reentry reducing him to nothing but bones.
    • Leon Kuwata: Dragged into a baseball cage and bombarded with baseballs until he dies.
    • Mondo Owada: Tied to a bike and forced into a sphere cage, where he is sent on a ride that goes so fast to the point where he is literally melted into butter, which Monokuma puts on a stack of pancakes and eats.
    • Celestia Ludenberg/Taeko Yasuhiro: Tied to a stake and is nearly burned to death in a Salem-style execution, which is exactly the kind of dramatic, romanticized death she would love to have... so Monokuma runs her over with a fire truck instead.
    • Alter Ego: Smashed with the arm of a backhoe over and over until the laptop is turned into a ball, which is then decorated to resemble Monokuma's face.
    • Kyoko Kirigiri (bad ending)/Makoto Naegi (true ending): Strapped to a Conveyor Belt o' Doom and rolled into a giant crusher where they're smashed into a pancake, all while Monokuma lectures them about sex ed. Makoto only survives because a virus planted by Alter Ego hacks the execution and saves him.
    • Junko Enoshima goes through all of the above. And she enjoys it.
  • Mukuro, while pretending to be her sister Junko, is impaled by several spears, courtesy of Junko herself.

    Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
  • This game has even more unfortunate executions, thanks to the twist that the events of the game take place in a virtual world.
    • Monomi (first time): Poured full of bullets by the Monobeasts. Luckily, she has reserves.
    • Teruteru Hanamura: Blasted with eggs and breadcrumbs, then dropped into a volcano.
    • Peko Pekoyama: Overrun by an army of Monokuma robots, tricked into wounding her master Fuyuhiko, and finally impaled.
    • Mikan Tsumiki's execution being "cruel" is debatable, as she isn't seen suffering onscreen, but there's no doubt on the "unusual" part. She's strapped to a rocket in the shape of a human arm, which Monokuma injects with steroids, and she's blasted off to space. She doesn't actually die onscreen since she's last seen holding onto the rocket for dear life, but it can be assumed that she died up there from lack of oxygen.
    • Gundham Tanaka: Trampled by a stampede as his minions watch helplessly.
    • Chiaki Nanami and Monomi (second time): Placed into a Space Invaders firing squad which destroys all of Monomi's remaining bodies - when Chiaki attempts to flee with the last Monomi, she is chased by a Pac-Man robot into a giant Tetris machine, where both are crushed.
  • Some of the murders also count.
    • Ibuki Mioda: Strangled to death and then hung.
    • Nekomaru Nidai: Dropped from a great height and smashed to pieces (thankfully in his robot body, not his human one).
    • Not to mention what happens to Nagito Komaeda: he ties himself down with rope, stabs himself multiple times in the thighs and slices his own arm open with a knife, jams the knife into his right hand, and tricks the remaining students into throwing a fire grenade filled with deadly poison at him. When he inhales the poison, he dies and drops a giant spear into his gut.

Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School
Future Arc
  • Bandai, Izayoi, and Koichi are killed by poison that turns half their body purple and makes the eye of that half release blood after violating their NG codes, unintentionally on Bandai and Izayoi's part.
  • After being brainwashed into committing suicide, Yukizome stabs herself in the abdomen, the Great Gozu gouges his eyes out, Seiko crucifies and stabs herself, and Ruruka chokes herself with candy and mutilates her body.
  • Naegi is tormented with visions of his dead classmates encouraging him to commit suicide, which are so powerful that he manages to break the restraints placed on him just so he could try to kill himself. Subverted when Juzo snaps him out of it.
  • The real Miaya is killed off-screen by Monaca, who snaps her neck.

Despair Arc

  • Almost every member of the Student Council dies horrifically. Highlights include Taro getting impaled and then having his corpse forced into Tsubasa's body, impaling her as well, and Asukasei falling on a live chainsaw and getting his head decapitated.
  • An unnamed character is brainwashed into decapitating themself with a hacksaw.
  • Human Chiaki slowly dies from blood loss after getting impaled by numerous spears, but not before being progressively weakened by injuries caused by booby traps.

    Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
  • The executions are much more brutal and nightmarish this time around, to the point where Leon's execution looks a lot more peaceful in comparison.
    • Kaede Akamatsu: Hung from the neck, and her body is used to perform an incompetent rendition of Der Flohwalzer on a giant piano while being stoned in the process. After getting asphyxiated, she's crushed to death by the piano's spiked cover.
    • Kirumi Tojo: Forced to climb up towards freedom via a thorny vine. As she painfully ascends the vine, buzzsaws continuously slash her. Kirumi makes it to the top, only to discover that the "exit" was actually a crude drawing; the vine snaps under her weight, and she falls to her death.
    • Korekiyo Shinguji: Tossed into a cauldron and boiled alive. His soul briefly reunites with his sister in death, only for her and Monokuma to destroy him with salt.
    • Gonta Gokuhara: Repeatedly stung by a horde of robotic wasps before being impaled by a giant one. Monokuma then finishes him off with a flamethrower.
    • Subverted with Kaito Momota. He's put on a rocket and shot deep into the ground. The rocket breaks through the surface and goes into outer space, but Kaito succumbs to his illness before the execution can proceed, and he dies peacefully in space, much to Monokuma's chagrin.
    • Inverted by the "mastermind", Tsumugi Shirogane. Befitting a woman incapable of living without the brutality of the fictional Danganronpa world, she dies a mundane and anticlimatic death by being crushed to death alongside Monokuma by a falling piece of rubble.
  • During each of the executions, the Monokubs were destroyed in pretty unpleasant ways as well. Monokid and Monosuke are both crushed, Monodam walks directly into fire, Monophanie's stomach gets torn apart by the aforementioned giant wasp forcing itself out of it, and Monotaro gets decapitated by said wasp. They all come back in the final trial, only to be blown up one by one by Monokuma.
  • Kokichi Oma and Ryoma Hoshi were also murdered in very gruesome ways; the former was shot with crossbow bolts, poisoned and crushed by a hydraulic press, while the latter was drowned and Stripped to the Bone by piranhas. The worst part? They allowed themselves to die in such a manner, but for different reasons: Ryoma was a suicidal Death Seeker, while Kaito wanted to save Maki from being executed after she poisoned Kokichi, so Kokichi blackmailed Kaito into murdering him as a part of his plan to derail the killing game.

Spin-offs:

    Danganronpa Kirigiri
  • The victims of the Sirius case (Amino, Inuzuka and Enbi) are all decapitated with hedge clippers and have their body parts rearranged.
  • Uosumi gets shot off a railing, falls onto a table and subsequently bursts into flame.
  • The victim of the haunted house case, Suntetsu Shirasu, is killed by being impaled with a sword propelled forward by what is essentially a slingshot.
