Combat Pragmatist / Web Animation

  • Animator vs. Animation: victim. Since he was created to be nothing but a victim, his power level and abilities reflect that. When victim interrogates The Chosen One as a means of extracting information from him about the animator, his first attempt at attack/intimidation barely fazes The Chosen One. Then Agent, from behind the scenes, weakens The Chosen One's abilities and gives victim an incredibly unfair advantage.
  • DEATH BATTLE! has quite a lot of examples.
    • Samus was willing to shoot off the head of a frozen Boba Fett.
    • Wonder Woman used her Lasso to ensnare Rogue while thrashing her.
    • Haggar used a metal pipe during his fight with Zangief.
    • Rapheal attacks a downed Donetallo. Killed him no less.
    • Leonardo uses the sewers to do sneak attacks on Zitz.
    • Shadow uses Chaos Control to teleport Vegeta every single time the Saiyan tries to kill him.
    • Rebecca Black was willing to exploit Justin Bieber's fear of throwing objects.
    • Starscream played possum in order to shoot Rainbow Dash with his Null-Ray. And Dashy responds by redirecting Starscream's missiles back at him.
    • Batman tries to use the darkness to sneak up on Spider-Man.
    • Superman discards Goku of most of his gear during their fight.
      • Averted with Goku, who given the chance, refuses to rely on Kryptonite to beat Superman, saying he wants to win fair and square.
    • He-Man destroys Lion-O's weapon.
    • M. Bison was willing to resort to brainwashing during battle.
    • Black Orchid turns Ivy Valentine into a frog and crushes her while she's helpless.
    • Tails remains in the air to avoid Luigi's attacks.
    • Blastoise chokes Charizard just before blasting him at point-blank range with Hydro Pump. Earlier, Venusaur was willing to use Sleep Powder to render his opponents vulnerable.
    • Gamera attacked Godzilla while his back was turned.
    • Guts headbutting Nightmare when both of them are in a Blade Lock.
    • Mega Man was willing to use Rush during his fight with Astro Boy.
    • Tai physically assaults Red to keep him from giving out orders to Charizard.
    • Mewtwo erases all of Shadow's memories and kills him with a giant spoon.
  • DSBT InsaniT: The Darkness counterparts always use dirty tricks when they fight, such as ambushing the characters from the shadows.
  • Calamity in No Evil. When Charles starts monologuing as a prelude to calling on the Black Ick, Calamity punches him in the stomach before he finishes talking. For bonus points, her adversary is like twelve and Calamity is in her late teens and much taller than him.
"We meet again! Well, I'm sorry, but I'll have to take you out. As much as I love an audience, I can't have people getting in my ugh"
  • Red vs. Blue:
    • Agent Washington is a freelancer with no AI, no armor enhancements, and no combat specialisation. He makes up for this by being a very solid all-rounder and fighting smart. He always tries to even the odds through strength in numbers, stealing weapons off his enemies, or just grabbing a bigger gun (sometimes metaphorical, sometimes not). He was able to stop The Meta (an absurdly powerful hivemind of AI in a super strong, over-enhanced Blood Knight) not through force, but with deception and knowledge that he himself wasn't supposed to hold about his surroundings.
    • Agent Tex is the strongest combatant in the series, but still prefers a pragmatic fight. She often uses her cloaking device and plasma grenades to end a fight before she starts it, and will set up a battle field with explosives and extra weapons ahead of time. She'd probably win more if she wasn't subconsciously programmed to be a Failure Hero.
  • RWBY:
    • Roman has no problem using everything he can to win a fight. Against Sun and Blake, he starts shooting hanging shipping crates to try and drop them on his opponents. When Ruby turns to tell Penny to stay back, he immediately blasts her. During their battle on top of an airship, Roman takes advantage every time Ruby falls, at one point delivering a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown with his cane while she curls into a ball to protect herself.
    • During the Tournament, Emerald avoids fighting Yatsuhashi and Coco directly; she melts into the long grass and disappears. Only when Coco is in the forest biome does she re-engage, using guerrilla-style hit-and-run strikes to disorient Coco. When she's finally ready to confront her, she does so from behind. During the battle at Haven Academy, she knocks out Ruby from behind to prevent Ruby from attacking Cinder. During the tournament, she keeps her illusion Semblance secret; her opponent, Coco, is left thinking she's seeing things and starts shaking; even after the fight, Coco's team think she was suffering from stress-induced hallucinations.
    • Watts is aware that his mind is his best weapon and stacks the deck in his favor. In Volume 7, Ironwood tricks him into visiting Amity Arena and locks them down; Watts hacks the system and manipulates the environment to his advantage, repeatedly using the biome system to thwart his physically more capable opponent. When it looks like he's finally cornered, Ironwood drops his guard because Watts was counting bullets throughout the fight and knows Watts is out of bullets. Watts did that deliberately because the point was never the gun: he was hiding a Hard Light shield trap, which he uses to pin Ironwood by the arm. Ironwood has to sacrifice his arm to escape.
    • Tyrian is extremely fast, acrobatic and talkative. He will hide his scorpion tail to catch new opponents by surprise with a "fifth limb", he'll mix up his behaviour, so his opponents are never sure if he's going to talk or strike; if an opponent tries pre-fight banter, Tyrian will attack them mid-sentence. When trapped in a three-way battle between himself, Qrow and Clover, he exploits his opponents' emotions to help Qrow against Clover, setting up a grudge match that leads to Clover disarming Qrow, who in turn breaks his Aura; Tyrian then stabs Clover from behind with Qrow's dropped weapon, framing Qrow for Clover's murder.
  • Shrapnel: Besides her own weapons, Reznya will use anything and everything she can get her hands on to kill her enemies, be it using their own weapons against them, or crushing/impaling them with what’s left of any destroyed buildings nearby.
