Big Goods in Comic Books. Main and/or supporting heroes will become the major forces of good at some point of the plot/story, so beware of spoilers ahead.

Work subpages:

Other

  • Black Moon Chronicles: Methraton is the greatest force for good who (unlike God) actually takes an active interest in the affairs of the mortal realm. He's virtually a god in his own right, but he's really just an immortal archmage. His most significant act is probably providing the portals used by the different nations in the world to escape the coming destruction of Earth.
  • Ekimus in Crimson serves as the main protagonist's mentor, preparing him in his role as The Chosen One to stop the apocalypse and he is directly opposite to Lisseth, the Mother of All Vampires. He is not the biggest or most powerful figure in the setting, but he is the most proactive one in the story, while the Forces of Light (particularly the angels) tend to veer into Knight Templar territory.
  • Bernadette, the leader of the Death Vigil and not-quite-grim Reaper, generally acting as a Supporting Leader.
  • In the 2019 comic book of Earthworm Jim, Princess What's-Her-Name now appears to be this, as she's the one who takes a stand against the queen, tries to inform Jim of the danger that they're facing, and serves as a foil to his naive and childlike innocence.
  • Fables: Despite being Mayor King Cole's second, Snow White is the one who really runs things, dealing with all the day-to-day issues of Fabletown, giving orders to crash Fabletown during the Adversary's first assault, and planning and coordinating the Fables' assault on the Empire despite technically no longer being in command.
  • Godzilla Cataclysm: Mothra, unsurprisingly, is viewed as one of the monsters that brings good fortune. Slightly more surprisingly Biollante is seen as a hope of revitalizing the Earth but Godzilla may have squashed that hope.
  • Hellboy has a few who serve this role:
    • Katherine 'Kate' Corrigan is the one running the B.P.R.D.'s attempt to stop the apocalypse.
    • Sir Edward Grey is fiercely dedicated to protecting humanity and spent his life fighting evil forces while protecting the innocent, including supernatural entities that did no harm. After his death, he becomes a Spirit Advisor to both Hellboy and Koshchei, pointing them to where they need to go to make Hell a better place. He is also a powerful enough sorcerer to stand on equal footing with Hecate and Baba Yaga, tried to kill Rasputin, almost became the embodiment of the river Acheron, and ultimately becomes guardian of the new Garden of Eden.
  • Irredeemable's sister series Incorruptible is all about The Plutonian's nemesis Max Damage trying to take this role after witnessing the former's Face–Heel Turn. Thankfully, Max's choice to redeem himself does pay off in the end, with Coalville becoming a beacon of hope in the post-Plutonian world as one of the most intact places on the planet due largely to his efforts, the populace eventually recognizing (and adoring) him as their new hero, him growing and becoming a happier person, and assuring Jailbait that he will wait for her.
  • In a Norwegian comic book series, Krüger & Krogh, Høvdingen fulfills the role as the leader of AFMA: Avdelingen for Mellemliggende Anliggendernote .
  • Pathfinder: Worldscape:
    • Fantomah and the Council of Jungle Kings. They serve as guardians and protectors of the Worldscape with the Council serving as the most stabilizing force in the demiplane.
    • The Traveller from Swords of Sorrow is built up as this in Volume 3.
  • Rough Riders: Theodore Roosevelt at first, who is later succeeded by his daughter, Alice, who resurrected the Rough Riders initiative and was personally involved with five (she is notably absent in Franklin D. Roosevelt's version) of its teams until her death on February 12, 1980.
  • Spawn: Spawn aka Al Simmons has become this over the course being a darker take on this and is The Team Benefactor to The Scorched.
  • Admiral Gar Stazi for the Galactic Alliance Remnant in Star Wars: Legacy.
  • Splinter is this for the long-running Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book series, as he is both the father and mentor to the turtles, raising them from when they were young and teaching them ninjitsu.
  • Transformers: Optimus Prime is the recurring Big Good of the comic book series.
    • However in Shattered Glass, Megatron serves this role, as the heroic leader of the Decepticons.
    • Dark Cybertron: Orion Pax takes up the role in the story.
    • Drift: Dai Atlas fulfills the role as leader of the Circle of Light.
    • In the 2023 version of comic book series, Optimus Prime takes up the role again, as the solicitation for the first issue even mentions he's Earth's only hope.
  • Ultramega: Atum Ultramega, the very first of his kind and the Greater-Scope Paragon who scouts out "warriors" on various worlds to protect their planets from the Kaijus.
  • Warlord of Mars
    • Tardos Mors was the Big Good to the Red Martians, until his death.
    • John Carter, The Hero of the comic book series, is promoted to the position after ascending as Warlord of Mars specially after Tardos Mors' death.
    • Dejah Carter is the Warlord of Mars from thousands of years in the future as well as a direct descendant from John Carter and Dejah Thoris. She also leads the resistance against the Earth's invaders that had colonized Barsoom and enslaved their people.
  • Yoko Tsuno: Peter Hertzel occupies for the position. He is very wealthy, powerful and has contacts with many organizations and agencies. He explains to Yoko that his goal is to preserve world peace, which is why he hired her and her friends to counter a band of crooks who ran off with Wotan's Fire.
