Cobra Kai

Base-Breaking Character in this series.
  • Throughout the first two seasons, Demetri was a fairly divisive character. Some fans liked him for being a Deadpan Snarker and Only Sane Man whose quips regarding his friends' behavior can be pretty funny. Others considered him an annoying Mouthy Kid whose Entitled Bastard attitude during the Cobra Kai lesson and his hypocrisy regarding bullyingnote  are a big turn off. He got several magnitudes worse with this in Season 2 as due to his eventual training in Miyagi-Do he got increased screentime. He's consistently whiny throughout his entire run, but towards the end, it became split towards the middle, with fans either liking him for attempting to break through to Hawk and only finally fighting back when Hawk continues to antagonize him, or hate him for his immense whining, revealing Hawk's dirtiest secrets at Moon's party and beating Hawk in the school brawl. However, Demetri gained a lot more fans since he Took a Level in Badass in Season 3, which also gave him and the other secondary fighters in both dojos a bit more characterization. Additionally, once he started training (especially once Daniel encouraged him to take advantage of his own neuroses), he also became more confident and less whiny, which was generally appreciated.
  • Amanda LaRusso, to a lesser extent. Many appreciate her Only Sane Woman tendencies and good-natured sarcasm, while others find it obnoxious that she almost never turns off the Deadpan Snarker routine, even when it's obviously not helpful. She does begin taking things a lot less lightly in Seasons 2 and 3, as the feud between Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do starts to intrude more and more on Daniel's professional and family life. Her story arc with Tory in Season 4 also shows a more compassionate side to her that was missing in earlier seasons.
  • Raymond/Stingray is seen by some as hilarious comic relief and by others as a pathetic Manchild who overstays his welcome and quickly becomes weird and creepy after he shows up at a party full of teenagers and then tries to go to school with them.
  • Tory Nichols has mostly split the fanbase into three camps: those who find her relatable and somewhat sympathetic despite her violent actions thanks to her troubled home life, and want to see her turn her self-destructive behavior around; those who find her backstory to be a poor justification for her attitude and consider her a one-dimensional cartoon villain, and those that give her the Draco in Leather Pants treatment and completely side with her in her conflict with Sam.
  • It's difficult to find middle ground on Samantha LaRusso. Some fans consider her a relatably flawed teenager, and like her for being a badass Action Girl and Distaff Counterpart to her father, Daniel, in the original film trilogy, while viewing her star-crossed romance with Miguel as one of the highlights of the series. Others consider her a selfish Spoiled Brat who instigates most of the conflict between the rival dojos and hate her for being at the center of a soap-opera style Love Dodecahedron.
  • Robby Keene is another character that has proven to be fairly divisive due in part to his Heel–Face Revolving Door throughout the series. Some fans hate him to an unreasonable degree for his negative actions against characters like Johnny or Miguel. Other fans completely excuse all of his negative actions and blame them on characters... like Johnny or Miguel.
