Aerith And Bob / Music

Go To

Before we even start, this often happens in the music world when band members don't unanimously decide to adopt stage names. As such, you can end up with a lineup consisting of John, Paul, George, and Ringo.

Aerith and Bob also has a No Real Life Examples, Please! rule - so anything purely based on the musicians' real names isn't considered a valid example.

  • In the "Weird Al" Yankovic song "Albuquerque", the narrator has two children, whom he names Nathaniel and Superfly. It's that kind of song.
  • Marilyn Manson, in both music and band. The lineups combined people with the Theme Naming of "sex symbol + serial killer" (Marilyn Manson, Twiggy Ramirez, Daisy Berkowitz, Madonna Wayne Gacy, Ginger Fish), a few stage names (John 5, Zim Zum), and otherwise normal names (Fred Sablan, Jason Sutter, Chris Vrenna, Tim Skold). The protagonists of the Holy Wood/Mechanical Animals/Antichrist Superstar (which were released in opposite order) are Adam, Omega (pronounced with a long e) and The Worm/Antichrist Superstar, with two major supporting characters (who may be one) named Coma Black and Coma White. At least Omega has the excuse of being a space alien.
  • Kaizers Orchestra, whose songs tend to be set in Norway, use a lot of unusual names in their extensive lyrics Myth Arc, like Dominique, Constanze, Philemon, Clementin, Violeta... and Kenneth.
  • The Genesis album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway tells the story of the fictional street kid Rael and his brother John.
  • George Frederic Handel's "Zadok the Priest"... and Nathan the Prophet? In fairness, it's based on the biblical passage 1 Kings 1:8, which names both of them ("But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet and Shimei and Rei, and David's men of war did not take the side of Adonijah.").
  • U2 consists of Bono, The Edge, Adam and Larry.
  • Green Day: Billie Joe, Mike, and Tré. Which in turn provide a surname case in the same order, Armstrong, Dirnt and Cool.
  • Korn's original lineup was Jonathan, Head, Munky, Fieldy, and David, the latter of which has since been replaced by Ray.
  • Blue Öyster Cult. Since only Donald Roeser took a stage name, you have Eric, Joe, Albert, Allen...and Buck Dharma.
  • Gorillaz’s well known lineup consists of Russell, Murdoc note , 2D note , and Noodle.
    • The members sans Noodle have surnames. Russell’s is Hobbes, 2D’s is Pot, and Murdoc’s is Niccals. The latter is Nichols misspelled and the middle isn’t really common.
  • The original lineup of Guns N' Roses consisted of Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff, and... Steve. And not only his replacement was Matt, but they took this further by adding Dizzy. The current one is half-and-half, Axl, Slash, Duff, Dizzy, Richard, Frank and Melissa.
  • The Grateful Dead in their original lineup consisted of Jerry, Bob, Phil, Bill... and Pigpen.
  • Birth names version: Iron Maiden is (Paul) Bruce, Steve, Dave, Adrian, Michael (a.k.a. Nicko)... and Janick.
  • Progressive Metal band Ne Obliviscaris' current lineup is Tim, Xenoyr, Matt, Cygnus, Dan, and Benjamin.
  • Slipknot for over 10 years consisted of DJ Starscream, Joey, Paul, Jim, Chris, Clown, 133, Mick, and Corey. To be fair, the formermost is still often called by his real name, Sid.
  • Azari & III consisted of Dinamo Azari, Alixander III, Starving Yet Full, and Fritz Helder.
  • Courtesy of Daft Punk, there's Guillaume Emmanuel "Guy-Manuel" de Homem-Christo... and Thomas Bangalter.
  • Super Junior gives us Leeteuk, Heechul, Han Geng, Yesung, Kangin, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Siwon, Donghae, Ryeowook, Kibum, Kyuhyun, Zhou Mi... and Henry.
  • Girls' Generation has Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, YoonA and Seohyun.
  • KARA has Gyuri, Seungyeon, Hara, Nicole and Jiyoung.
  • miss A: Fei, Jia, Min... and Suzy.
    • Suzy's name is Bae Soo-ji. In Korean, Suzy is pronounced "soo-ji", and is meant to be an exotic spelling of a fairly common Korean name. Bilingual Bonus: From a Korean point of view, Fei is the odd one out. All the other names are possible in Korean.
  • Pristin has Nayoung, Minkyung, Kyungwon, Eunwoo, Yebin, Yewon, Siyeon, Sungyeon, Kyla and Jieqiong
  • MOMOLAND: There's the Korean names you'd expect - Hyebin, Yeonwoo, Nayun, Ahin, Taeha - then very European sounding names like Daisy, Jane, and Nancy. The true oddball is JooE
  • Before they added a fifth member, Red Velvet could boast the rarely-seen reverse example: Joy, Wendy, Irene and Seulgi. These days they also have a Yeri.
  • With the sheer amount (and slowly increasing every year) of members NCT have, they have a wide diversity of names. There's Taeil, Taeyong, Yuta, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun, WinWin, Jungwoo, Xiaojun, Hendery, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, YangYang, Chenle, Jisung... and Johnny, Mark, and Lucas
  • GOT7 has three foreign members so we have a Mark and Jackson with JB, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam and Yugyeom
  • The Police members’ names are Andy, Stewart, and… Stingnote .
  • In Roy Zimmerman's Christmas on Mars, the martians say "Merry Christmas" to "little Meggadedeck, and Hackananack and Lars".
  • The electronic quartet Bond has this, on one side you have Tania and Elspeth (a version of Elizabeth), and on the other side, you have Eos and Gay-Yee.
  • American punk band X's members include Exene Cervenka and John Doe.
  • In Destiny's Child, there's Kelly, Michelle and Beyoncé. However, Kelly's full name is Kelendria and Michelle's real name is Tenitra. Also true with the original band members, which were Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Kelly.
  • Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
  • Pearl Jam: Eddie, Mike, Jeff, Matt (preceded by Dave and Jack)... and Stone. Guest keyboardist Boom (which unlike Stone Carpenter Gossard, is a Stage Name for Kenneth) too.
  • Swedish Electronic Music band Little Dragon has Erik Bodin, Fredrik Källgren Wallin, and Håkan Wirenstrand fronted by Japanese-American-Swedish singer Yukimi Nagano.
  • Avenged Sevenfold, following the death of original drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. M. Shadows (Matt Sanders), Synyster Gates (Brian Haner), Zacky Vengeance (Zachary Baker), and Johnny Crist (Jonathan Seward) now share the stage with Brooks Wackerman, which is his real name. Prior to Wackerman, Arin Ilejay (also his real name) played the drums as The Rev's first full-time replacement.
  • The Mars Volta: The album Frances the Mute tells the story of Frances, her mother Miranda... and her sister L'via.
  • The first sentence of The Other Wiki page for Skunk Anansie lists their four members: Skin, Cass, Ace and Mark Richardson.
  • DragonForce has this as a result of being a Multinational Team. Its current lineup consists of Marc, Frédéric, Herman, Vadim, Sam, and Gee. Past members include ZP, Adrian, and Dave.
  • Hollywood Undead is Charlie Scene, Johnny 3 Tears, J-Dog, Funny Man and Danny.
  • White Zombie's classic lineup was John, Jay, Sean, and Rob — Zombie, that is.
  • Blood Stain Child. At one point, the Japanese electronic metal band was comprised of Ryo, Ryu, G.S.R., Aki, Gami, and Sophia. The lattermost is justified because she isn't actually Japanese, she's Greek.
  • TV on the Radio has Tunde, Kyp, Jaleel, and David as it's current lineup.
  • Limp Bizkit's classic lineup is Fred, Wes, Sam, John, and DJ Lethal. Interestingly, even if he used his real name it'd still be an example, as his real name is Leor.
  • Axel Rudi Pell's lineup is currently Axel, Johnny, Ferdy, Volker, and Bobby.
  • Deftones' current members are Chino, Stephen, Abe, Frank, and Sergio. Past members include Chi, Dominic, and John.
  • Five Finger Death Punch: Ivan, Jeremy, Jason, Chris, and Zoltan.
  • In the world of EDM, many producers favor cool-sounding stage names like Skrillex, Deadmau5, Zedd, and DJ Snake. These people often play in the same festivals alongside other producers named Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Steve Aoki, and Porter Robinson.
  • Pendulum's current roster is Rob, Gareth, Peredur, and KJ. Joining them on live shows are Ben and El Hornet.
  • Swedish House Mafia was Steve, Sebastian, and Axwell.
  • The Prodigy: Liam, Keith, and Maxim. It's Justified somewhat since the latter is also named Keith. They also had two other live members who have since left named Leeroy and Sharky.
  • Hacktivist was originally J, Ben, Richard, Josh, and Timfy James. Ben has since left, and was replaced with Jot.
  • Prophets of Rage: Chuck D, B-Real, DJ Lord, Tom, Tim, and Brad.
  • Banks & Steelz is Paul Banks and the RZA.
  • Songdrops: In "The Name of My Frog", some of the pets have species names (Dr. Hog, Bunny, Rat), while some have normal names (Bob, Francis).
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers are Anthony, Chad, John (previously Josh), and... Flea. Among the ones who recorded albums, the only equally unusual name was Hillel.
  • Superorganism consists of Orono "OJ" Noguchi, Mark David "Emily" Turner, Christopher "Harry" Young, Timothy "Tucan Taylor Michaels" Shann, Blair "Robert Strange" Everson, and three people with undisclosed identities who go by Ruby, B and Soul.
  • The members of N.E.R.D are Chad, Shae, and Pharrell.
  • The four members of the group Surrounded By Idiots are DJ Timmy Tam, Magoo, Magnum, the Verblord... and Larry Live.
  • Perry Como's 1959 hit song "Delaware" is a bunch of puns based on state names. You have normal, pretty girl's names like Della, Callie, and Flora, but also names like Ore and Wiscon, the only male names are Arkan and Tenna.
  • Cab Calloway's "Everybody Eats When They Come to My House" rhymes every food item with a person's name. This works out fine for some (salami/Tommy, banana/Hannah) but not as well for others (pancake/Mandrake, bagel/Fagel).
