Hey there, [[troper]], and welcome to Forum Games! Here, as you might've gathered, we play games... on the forum! It's all fairly intuitive, but here's some things you might like to know:
- The forum-wide rules
all still apply here, of course. There's also a set of Forum Games-specific rules you'll want to read over.
- There is a recommendations and ideas thread, where people recommend existing games and suggest new ones. Whether you want to hear what games people like or have a cool idea and want to make sure it doesn't already exist, this is the thread for you.
- The Text Formatting Rules are your friend!
- Play the game you're playing. If the thread is "give the above avatar a funny gift", don't do silly things like come in with a post about how your avatar throws the above poster into the sun. If you don't like the game in a given thread, there are lots of other threads to play other games in.
- "Out of character" chat — yes, this is still Forum Games, not Role Playing, but it comes up sometimes — should be hidden behind [[spoiler:spoiler tags]].
- Multiposting and bumping:
- Double-posting to bump a thread that hasn't had a response in a few days is fine. Double-posting to bump a thread that hasn't had a response in a few hours is unnecessary. Double-posting just to respond to your own post instead of letting someone else do it is flat-out rude.
- Similarly, "sandwich posting" (responding right back to someone who just responded to you, like you're the bread in a their-post sandwich) is generally frowned upon, especially in "interact with the above post" games, but just like bumps, it's fine if the thread has gotten pretty slow.
- Thread Necromancy is not forbidden on TV Tropes. If there's a thread you want to participate in that hasn't gotten posts in a long while, just jump in with your contribution. Bringing it back to the top of the list might attract a whole new crowd!
- If other people are breaking the rules, holler the mods from the meatballs menu in the top-right corner of the post.
- Above all, be nice and have fun! This is games, after all; having fun is what they're for!
