Here is the text of the greeting:

Hi, [[troper]], and welcome to the Comics subforum.

This forum's mostly for conversations about comic books themselves, not their tropes and pages on TV Tropes.

As some publishers start to experiment with a mix of print and digital comics the border with webcomics can blur a little at times, but the focus here is on the print side of things.

(That said, when webcomics and print comics are set in the same shared universe, we're not going to worry much about the distinction if you talk about both of them on one thread)

It's fine to launch new threads for specific topics, but we do have a few very active, long-running ones as well:

Threads for Marvel Comics:

Threads for DC:

Others:

All of these are good places to discuss new comics, discuss old comics and ask questions.

(Although if you're only here to ask about plot or character details for trope examples, you might be better with the Fact Checking Thread over in the Wiki and Forums section)

There's also the Comic Book Recommendations thread, which is exactly what it sounds like. It you want to find new comics to read, or spread the word about something good you're currently reading, this is the place to do it.

The general rules apply to all of the threads here, as they do elsewhere.

Spoiler policy

Not everyone reads new comics as soon as they come out. Some people don't get to a comic shop on publication day, some wait for the collected editions and others only discover a cool series years later. So please tag your spoilers in the same way you would if writing for a works page. The following rules apply when posting spoilers:
  • If you're starting a new thread, don't put spoilers in the title.
  • Any spoilers for comics not covered by the thread's title must be tagged (e.g. don't post unmarked Batman spoilers in a Superman thread).
  • If a thread's about specific comics (e.g. X-Men) then older spoilers for those comics may not need to be tagged.
    • As a bare minimum, spoilers for the most recent issue of each series must be tagged. For crossovers and events, this applies to the most recent issue of the relevant series, not just the latest chapter of the event.
    • For one-shots and final issues, allow at least one month before posting unmarked spoilers.
    • There's no hard rule beyond these minimums, but we'd encourage you to keep tagging for a little longer, so that tropers waiting for the collected editions aren't spoiled.
  • If you want to post spoilers based on a pre-release preview, they must be tagged. There's no outright ban on discussing leaked content, but spoilers from leaks must be tagged in the same way.
  • Posts with tagged spoilers should state which series and issue(s) the hidden spoilers are for. Please use issue numbers rather than saying 'new' or 'latest'.

All of this is based on the wider forum spoiler policy, and posts with unmarked spoilers that break rules may get thumped by moderators.
Lastly, please remember that not everyone likes the same things - and that there are real people creating the comics you're reading. It's fine to say that a particular comic isn't working for you, but this isn't a place for excessive negativity - or for vitriol aimed at a comic's creative team.

If you have any other questions, please drop me a message.
