[=SMPLive=] was a survival ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'' multiplayer server created by [=CallMeCarson=] and cscoop on March 1, 2019. The server required you to be live every time you were playing on it, and viewers could place hits for streamers to kill other players. It mixes elements of comedic improvisation and roleplay, focusing on the [[RandomEventsPlot various nonsensical conflicts and situations]] the characters manage to get themselves into.

It is often credited as one of the main reasons ''Minecraft'' video content [[PopularityPolynomial blew up in popularity again]], being the GenrePopularizer for livestreamed SMP series, and many creators went on to join ''WebVideo/SMPEarth'' and/or the ''WebVideo/DreamSMP''. In turn, [=SMPLive=] itself takes a lot of inspiration from ''WebVideo/{{Hermitcraft}}'' and the various ''Minecraft'' roleplay series created by the [[WebVideo/YogscastMinecraftSeries Yogscast]], and is very open about said inspiration, with homages to both being a common sight.

The server also has two "spin-off" servers -- ''SMP Classic'' is a server where the members play on an old version of ''Minecraft'', and there's also an unnamed ''[[VideoGame/TechnicPack Tekkit Classic]]'' server dubbed ''[=TekkitLive=]'' by fans.

All tropes listed on this page apply solely to the in-game characters and not the streamers behind them.

!!Tropes that apply to the main server:

[[folder:Tropes A-G]]
* AbortedArc:
** Schlatt & Co.'s coffee shop never comes up after it's first built, besides to get robbed by Poke on the same day.
** Cooper's attempt to create an illegal drug ring also only gets brought up once and never elaborated on.
* AccidentalMisnaming: At first, Ant mispronounces Joko's name as "Jocko", something which greatly pisses him off. Ant later apologizes for this.
* AddedAlliterativeAppeal: The '''W'''acky '''W'''heel at spawn.
* AerithAndBob: By nature of being a ''Minecraft'' server. Compare names like "Connor" and "Josh" to the likes of "Altrive", "Beef" and "WebVideo/{{Technoblade}}".
* AlwaysALiveTransmission: [=SMPLive=] [[PlayingWithATrope plays with]] this trope in a meta sense. Most popular SMP series prior to its debut were in the form of pre-recorded and edited videos uploaded to [=YouTube=]. On the other hand, [=SMPLive=] made it a ''requirement'' that any player online on the server was livestreaming their perspective at every given moment. Even if you logged on for a few minutes to do a single mundane task, you had to be live. This becomes {{downplayed}} by the end as this requirement became less enforced.
* AndCallHimGeorge: Connor [[spoiler:gives his pet parrot a cookie as a treat, unaware of the fact that cookies are poisonous to parrots and kill them instantly in ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'']]. He proceeds to have a HeroicBSOD.
* AndThatWouldBeWrong: Connor says this about [[spoiler:stealing diamonds from the police station]] when he and Schlatt are trying to convince Wilbur to do it.
--> '''Connor:''' Now we, as good businessmen, we would never take those. That would be wrong.
* AntiHumor: During the [=SMPLive=] Talent Show, Schlatt reads out jokes without the punchlines.
* AnvilOnHead: Joko attempts to drop an anvil on Schlatt, but fails due to signs being in the way.
* ArborealAbode: While no one resides in it, the Spawn Tree is hollowed out to act as an Overworld equivalent to the Nether Hub, even housing the portal that connects the two.
* ArtisticLicenseLaw: The court system is completely unorganized in regards to how things are settled. Either it's popular vote based on players' chats... Or things get violent.
* ArtisticLicenseLawEnforcement: Police officer is a role held by one or two server members at time and passed around weekly.
* AssassinationAttempt: The server's hit system almost always results in players trying to assassinate each other. A particularly hilarious example is when Grunk attempts to take out Schlatt, [[spoiler:only to get adopted instead]].
* AssShove: Frequently {{discussed|Trope}}. Thankfully, we are spared from seeing the results due to [[GameplayAndStorySegregation the limits of Minecraft]].
--> '''Poke:''' I'm gonna put you inside of my ass!
* AssumedWin: Connor and Joko both assume that they've won the Assassin Event until they learn that neither have, as Carson has declared the event a failure.
* AudienceParticipation:
** Viewers can donate to streamers and tell them a player they want them to kill or prank.
** Court cases are often decided by Twitch chat.
* AuthorAvatar: Because of being a ''Minecraft'' server with roleplay elements, the in-game characters do still represent the streamers a noteworthy amount.
* BadCopIncompetentCop: The server cop role, which is given out to different members each week. They are always either corrupt or incompetent, usually creating bizarre laws just to have a reason to boss people around and attack them.
%%* BettingMinigame: The Wacky Wheel at spawn, built by Svyoshi. Possible outcomes include an announcement showing to the whole server saying you're gay, and being forced to watch an entire Ninja VOD, among others. Since most streamers would make spinning the wheel a donation incentive, there's an added element of AudienceParticipation.
* BitingTheHandHumor: [=CaptainSparklez=]'s sword is named "The Demonetizor", a reference to Website/YouTube's tendency to remove monetization from videos including too much swearing.
* {{Bizarrchitecture}}: The server is practically a world of it, especially at Spawn City, where there are things like a giant skyscraper built entirely of melons and a giant cube that features a Doge meme on each side.
* BlackMarket: After the outlawing of potions, Cooper has the idea to create an underground illegal drug ring on the server. [[HypocriticalHumor Hilariously]], this is in spite of the fact that said law was instilled during his time in the server cop role just ''a week earlier''.
* {{Bowdlerise}}: Swearing in Connor's highlight videos is censored with a beep.
* BrickJoke: Jokes like these are incredibly common in [=SMPLive=]. Cooper's [[PitTrap pitfall traps]] tend to be a recurring cause:
** At one point, while chasing Poke around the Spawn Tree, Cooper manages to get led into his ''own'' trap.
** The same one in front of the Spawn Tree laters gets used for a gag between Schlatt and Connor, where Schlatt runs up, excitedly telling Connor about how he just saw ''[[Film/AlvinAndTheChipmunksTheSqueakquel "Alvin and the Chipmunks 2"]]'', only for Connor to step on the PressurePlate and send him hurtling down into the pit.
* CanonWelding:
** Schlatt retroactively confirms that [=SMPLive=] is at least ''partially'' canon to Dream SMP in an episode of ''Tales from the SMP''. This indirectly connects it to ''WebVideo/BearSMP'' as well, and WebVideo/MinecraftChampionship.
** It is also implied at some points during ''WebVideo/EpicSMP'' season 2 that it's canon to that server as well.
** In ''WebVideo/SMPEarth'', it is noted that Wilbur's character wants to reform from his "dirty crime boy" ways on [=SMPLive=], adding yet another layer.
* TheCasino: Joko's cruise ship at spawn houses a casino inside.
* CityOfGold: {{Downplayed|Trope}} -- several buildings at Spawn City are built out of gold or diamond blocks.
* ClipShow: Pokay has several videos aptly titled "The Clip Show", which contain random clips from his [=SMPLive=] streams that he didn't feel like making into a full video.
* ComedicSociopathy: Nearly all of the [=SMPLive=] characters are bad people who do bad things. This isn't meant to teach you a lesson, you're just supposed to laugh at how awful they all are.
* CompetingProductPotshot: Until April, Connor's ice shop featured a sign out front that says "cheapest ice in town", a shot at Cooper, who also sold ice at spawn. When Cooper stops selling ice, the sign is changed to read "ONLY ice in town" instead.
* CompilationMovie: Several creators have made a "best of [=SMPLive=]" compilation video.
* TheCon: Schlattcoin, which Schlatt initially sets up to get diamonds out of anyone dumb enough to fall for his [[SchmuckBait very obvious scheme]].
* ConfrontingYourImposter: When [=CaptainSparklez=] joins the server, Altrive dresses up as him, using his skin. The two stare each other down as the other server members gather around.
* ConstructionIsAwesome: Construction is so important to the people of [=SMPLive=] that entire court cases have actually occurred over players building ugly structures in the vicinity of people's much more elaborate builds. Multiple events have taken place themed entirely around building up Spawn City.
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: When Poke and James are the server cops, they decide that Dinkster's punishment for illegal contraband is that he must recite the lyrics of "Revenge" by [=CaptainSparklez=] from memory. Dinkster complies, and he sings very quickly due to being under distress and very afraid.
* CourtroomEpisode: Court cases are a common occurrence on the server, usually taking place in the Church of Etho at Spawn.
** Notably, there's People of [=SMPLive=] v. Schlattcoin, a court case where Connor sues Schlatt for scamming him out of his diamonds.
** Poke [[FrivolousLawsuit sues Mikey]] for no real reason, with poor Angel as his lawyer.
** Nick is sued for his ugly cobblestone structures by Cooper, and loses, being banned from building anything more at spawn.
** Angel sues Poke for killing some of her chickens, and he has to pay her back for it.
* CoverInnocentEyesAndEars: Angel tells Ty to cover his ears before she goes off on Senzu.
* CrazyEnoughToWork:
** James manages to put himself out when on fire in [[{{Hell}} the Nether]] by quickly crafting a cauldron.
** Connor frees himself from a glitched boat by shooting it with his bow after chat suggests it. His reaction is [[LampshadeHanging "THAT ACTUALLY WORKED?"]].
* CrossReferencedTitles: Highlight videos of the same/related events from different perspectives tend to reference each other frequently:
** The Assassin Event, featuring numerous {{Assumed Win}}s has the hilarious trinity of Joko's "I WON THE ASSASSIN EVENT (kinda)", Connor's "Winning the SMP Live Assassin Event", and Gold's "WE WON THE SMPLIVE ASSASSIN EVENT? Sorta..."
** Michael's "They Think I'm Herobrine..." and Connor's "Killing Herobrine on SMP Live".
** Travis's "The Great Minecraft Bird Heist" and Gold's "MY FRIENDS OBLITERATED MY BIRD FOR MONEY..."
* {{Cult}}: The server has several -- Jadarko's [[GiantAnimalWorship Salmonism]], [=ShadowApples=]'s [[CargoCult Bread Cult]], and [[spoiler:Ted Nivison's [[TheSacredDarkness Void Cult]]]].
* CurbStompBattle: In "INSANE MINECRAFT 1v5", Sneeg vs. Joko, Asaii, Mason, Beef and Gold. [[spoiler:Sneeg takes them all out easily]].
* DeathAsComedy: Given the hit system and the DeathIsCheap nature of the series, it's only natural that death is frequently used for comedic antics. One such example is Cooper's repeated killing of Joko in "Fishing turns deadly", with Connor even saying to kill Joko because it's funnier when Cooper gets a hit on him.
* DeathIsCheap: Since it's ''Minecraft'', you can just respawn. This is {{downplayed|Trope}}, however, as a death counter is displayed above player's heads, which is often pointed out and joked about.
* DeathOfAChild: The younger members of the server die just as much as the adults do. For an example, the teenaged Ty is killed by Schlatt the first time they meet.
* DeathTrap: The Cuck Shed is designed to make players fall down onto a magma block and burn to death so that Schlatt & Co. can steal their items.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Nick's punishment for [[TerribleArtist building ugly cobblestone buildings at spawn]] is having to be tormented and forced to work for Schlatt & Co., and later being forced to fight Altrive to the death in the arena.
* DistinctionWithoutADifference: In "The Greatest Court Case of All Time", when Toxxxic asks if she can sue Mason for sending her a dick pic, he quickly clarifies that it wasn't his dick, even though she never actually said it was his.
--> '''Toxxxic:''' Can I sue you for sending me a picture of that dick? \
'''Mason:''' I just need to clarify that this was ''not'' my penis, it was WebVideo/ProJared's penis...
* DoubleEntendre: This exchange between Schlatt and Connor:
--> '''Schlatt:''' Connor, would you suck Gold dry... ''Of all his funds?'' \
'''Connor:''' Of his ''funds''?
* DrinkingGame: One for the server is outlined by Cooper in [[https://youtu.be/QZfpYr6qhnY?si=BRUd1eqAxxDIfVXu "Drinking and Killing CaptainSparklez"]]...
--> '''Cooper:''' Death by pigman is a big drink. You see [[RunningGag Schlatt walkin']]? That's a shot. You get a hit, that's a shot, you fail a hit, you take another one.
* DualWielding: In one video, Michael uses both a diamond and iron sword at the same time. This terrifies Schlatt and Connor, who believe he must be Herobrine.
* DudeNotFunny: This is Connor's DelayedReaction when Schlatt starts laughing at the Eat Pant Conar statue again.
--> '''Connor:''' Are you talking about the... Stop! It's not funny!
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: Golden apples and potions weren't made illegal until April when Cooper became the server cop, and as a result it can be a bit odd to see how casually they're treated before then.
* {{Egging}}: "Spleggs" are sometimes thrown at other players, particularly at Cooper, due to his protests about the price of said Spleggs.
* {{Egopolis}}: The area of land that Schlatt, Connor and a few other players reside in is known as "Schlatttown".
* ElaborateUndergroundBase: The HomeBase of the ACC is one, being built underground and having a [[AwesomeButImpractical lava mural]] on one of the walls.
* ElectionDayEpisode: [[spoiler:Schlatt's mayoral campaign]], to which several server members object.
* EnemyMine: Both Travis and Cooper have a strained at best, negative at worst relationship with Carson, and this can even be seen while they are building the ACC base, with Cooper nearly ''killing'' Carson out of annoyance. Despite this, they work together out of a common disgust for the Salmonism cult.
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: A survival multiplayer server that's livestreamed at all times.
* ExtraDimensionalShortcut: Because distance traveled in the Nether is greater than its Overworld equivalent, tunnels in the Nether Hub are used by players to quickly get from place to place.
* FantasyKitchenSink: As a result of the diversity of ''Minecraft'' skins, there are plenty of species to see, including pointy-eared humanoids, FishPeople, various kinds of BeastMan and FunnyAnimal, a {{Cyclops}}, and more.
* FictionalCurrency:
** Schlattcoin, a fictional cryptocurrency made by Schlatt & Co. -- even if it does happen to actually be a scam.
** In the [[Recap/SMPLiveReunion [=SMPLive=] Reunion]], there's also Conar Coin, a similar cryptocurrency.
* FiveSecondForeshadowing: In "High-Profile Robbery", Cooper announces in chat that he would like to buy Schlattcoin, which Connor points out to Schlatt, who ignores it. Then Cooper comes crashing in just moments later and kills Schlatt by sending him flying with his Knockback sword.
* ForeignCussWord: Angel calls Senzu a "pendejo"[[note]]roughly translates to "dumbass"[[/note]] when he tries to get Ty to listen to Stal again.
* FormulaBreakingEpisode: The Assassin Event breaks from the typical SliceOfLife shenanigans to put the cast in a [[TournamentArc tournament-esque event]] where they have to hunt each other down.
* FrameUp:
** Carson tries to frame Billy for having potions by throwing them at him.
** Altrive tries to frame Joko for having potions by planting a brewing stand in his base, but Joko caught him on stream, which led him to move it to Poke's base instead.
* FrivolousLawsuit: Poke tries to sue Mikey for absolutely nothing, something his poor lawyer, Angel, points out.
--> '''Angel:''' Yeah, I'm the lawyer, and you didn't give me a fucking case other than that he's a fucking bitch! Like what do you want me to do?
* FromBeyondTheFourthWall: Hits are given to characters by the streamers' donations.
* GagPenis:
** Sneeg pranks Schlatt by leading him to unknowingly build an obsidian penis outside his base.
** [=CaptainSparklez=] builds one on top of [=AntVenom=]'s base, which Ant gets revenge for by convincing Wilbur to go build noise-making machines around Sparklez's base.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: Because the series is set in ''Minecraft'', a lot of things are subject to the game's limitations.
** Schlattcoin is depicted as just gold nuggets, though this is later {{subverted|Trope}} when they use a texture pack to make them appear more like their actual appearance.
** The server cops use bows renamed "gun", since there's no guns in ''Minecraft''.
** Body language in ''Minecraft'' is a lot more limited, so things like crouching and punching mean a lot of different things in [=SMPLive=].
* GenreBusting: Describing [=SMPLive=]'s genre is near-impossible due to its format and all the different perspectives -- the simplest possible description would be LetsPlay + {{Sitcom}} + RealityShow + GagSeries + SliceOfLife with elements of LawProcedural... Which isn't simple at all.
* GlobalCurrency: Despite the server having several player-made {{Fictional Currenc|y}}ies of its own, the currency most used and accepted by all players is diamonds.
* GrapplingHookPistol: Fishing rods get used as such by the characters -- frequently being utilized to grab and throw other players instead of for their intended purpose.
* GRatedDrug:
** Golden apples are illegal contraband on the server, and are treated like drugs, likely due to their in-game buffs that they give when eaten.
** Potions are also treated like drugs for the same reason, and arguably even more so, as they are frequently used as planted evidence against other players.
* GRatedSex: There are numerous gags where players "have sex" by one standing above another on a bed awkwardly, sometimes crouching rapidly.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes H-Q]]
* HalloweenEpisode: Mason has two highlight videos where he decorates Spawn City for Halloween.
* HamAndDeadpanDuo: Poke and James form one with Poke as the {{Cloudcuckoolander}} flavor of ham and James as the DeadpanSnarker who loves to annoy him.
* HandshakeSubstitute: Because [[GameplayAndStorySegregation of the limitations of Minecraft]], players cannot shake each other's hands, so this is usually represented by quick punches to each other instead.
* HardWorkMontage: When Travis dies to a drowned while AFK and has to redo all his progress, he does it in a montage, complete with inspirational rock music.
* HeroicBSOD: When Connor accidentally [[spoiler:kills his parrot by feeding it a cookie]], he stares in silence for a few moments as the camera begins to zoom out.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: While chasing Poke around at spawn, Cooper falls victim to one of his own [[PitTrap pitfall traps]].
* HomoeroticSubtext: [=SMPLive=] has a ''lot''... Like, a '''''lot'''''. While mostly PlayedForLaughs, it is still a constant presence in the series.
** On Day 1, Schlatt asks [=AntVenom=] if he will "go out with him to the End" so they can fight the Ender Dragon, and maybe even sleep in the same bed.
** Schlatt has this to say about Wilbur:
---> '''Schlatt:''' I'm gonna beat the shit out of him. And then I'm gonna kiss him.
** Cooper and Joko tend to fall into shades of BelligerentSexualTension, with Cooper sometimes flirting with Joko to irritate him. However, it's not entirely one-sided:
---> '''Joko:''' Dude, Cooper, kiss me on the neck.
** Joko frequently refers to Mikey as his "wife".
** Pokay and Sneeg have this exchange:
---> '''<Pokay>''' yo \
'''<Sneegsnag>''' *kisses you softly*
* HubCity: Spawn City is the server's central area, marked by a huge tree.
* HumanSacrifice: [[spoiler:The Void {{Cult}}'s initiation ritual involves throwing yourself into the Void and allowing it to devour your soul.]]
* IBangedYourMom: Joko's response to Cooper trying to find him for a hit. [[InsultBackfire Hilariously backfires on him]] when Cooper decides to reply by saying he should be fucking ''him'' instead.
--> '''Cooper:''' Joko, where are you? \
'''Joko:''' Your mom's house, fucking her! \
'''Cooper:''' Listen! That's also my house! I want you to come to my house and fuck ''me'', Joko! \
'''Joko:''' Nooo!!
* ImmediateSelfContradiction: In [[https://youtu.be/3VzN_Vmbvzg?si=Lf9hJZE82YjqkIVF "SMPLive: Fruitcoin"]], Cooper tells off Poke for fighting in the courtroom, before immediately trying to shoot at Carson with his bow.
--> '''Cooper:''' [[RapidFireNo Nononononono!]] We do not battle in the courtroom!\
'''Cooper:''' ''(a few moments later)'' You think if I Punch bow him, he'll fall in the lava?
* {{Improv}}: The whole server runs on this. As said by Schlatt:
--> '''Schlatt:''' Every week it becomes more and more mind-boggling that nothing on this server has ever been scripted.
* ImprovisedWeapon:
** Joko and JC the Caster have a fight where they smack each other [[ShamuFu with fish]].
** The server cops get "enforcement sticks", which are just literal sticks for them to hit players with.
* {{Infodump}}: Connor's video [[https://youtu.be/RLNd-331WS4?si=ZEX0cy5iZREXwPRw "Touring the Spawn of SMP Live"]] is one long one, as all he does in it is show his viewers the various structures at spawn and explains what they're for.
* InstantHumiliationJustAddYouTube: Happens when a clip of Connor dying and losing all his items goes viral on [[Website/{{Reddit}} [=r/LivestreamFail=]]], which he laments in one of his first [=SMPLive=] highlight videos.
* InvisibleBlock: Connor finds a glitched invisible block that he calls a "Herobrine Block", and excitedly gets others to come look as he tries ([[EpicFail and fails]]) to break it.
* ItMakesSenseInContext: Connor's Silk Touch pickaxe being named "Ice Fucker 3000" makes a lot more sense with the knowledge that he runs a shop at Spawn City that sells ice, which you can only mine with Silk Touch.
* JudgeJuryAndExecutioner: In "[=SMPLive=]: Hitman", Schlatt declares himself to be acting as the judge, Wilbur's lawyer and the prosecution when he sues Wilbur.
* KangarooCourt: Almost all court cases on the server devolve into this, usually because of chatters who already have their mind made up.
* KillItWithFire: Schlatt and Connor attempt to [[spoiler:burn Michael alive because they're scared he's Herobrine]].
* KillTally: {{Inverted|Trope}}. Players have a count of the amount of times they've died on the server displayed under their nametags.
* LavaAddsAwesome: The Anti-Cult Coalition's base features a giant wall of lava on one side.
* LawmanBaton: Or rather, [[InsistentTerminology "enforcement sticks"]], as the server cops tend to refer to them.
* LemmingCops: When Joko is the server cop, he pursues Twomad through the Nether, being led into a pit of lava. Somehow, he manages to survive.
* LimitedWardrobe: Most characters on the server fall into this due to [[GameplayAndStorySegregation the nature of Minecraft skins]], and even the characters that do use multiple skins tend to only use one or two more. This is {{averted|Trope}} with Cooper, however, who has a wide range of different outfits.
* LuredIntoATrap: The Cuck Shed is designed to kill players so Schlatt can steal their items.
* MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext:
** Schlatt and [=AntVenom=]'s argument over banning Barack Obama from the KFC Dome.
---> '''Ant:''' So long as Obama is banned from the KFC Dome, you enjoy dick and balls.
** Schlatt and Connor trapping Michaelmcchill in wool and [[spoiler:threatening to burn him alive because they think he's Herobrine]].
* MatchThreeGame: Dinkster builds a working Tic-Tac-Toe game using redstone.
* MisplacedRetribution: Joko kills both Macro and Angel after he [[LuredIntoATrap falls into a trap set by them]], believing they had a hit on him. It turns out, in actuality, that Macro was being attacked by a witch, and Angel set up the trap to catch the witch. Joko apologizes profusely and offers the duo his help.
* MissionControlIsOffItsMeds: When [=BasedBeefy=] joins the server, he is toured around by Joko, Cooper, and Travis, who all happen to be ''really'' bad at this job.
* MythologyGag: Fallen Kingdom, a giant castle built for [=CaptainSparklez=] based on his [[WebAnimation/FallenKingdom song of the same name]].
* OneSteveLimit: {{Averted|Trope}} and {{downplayed|Trope}}. The server has Fitba, WebVideo/FitMC and Fitz.
* OpenSecret: Due to the series's livestreamed nature, it's hard for players to keep secrets from each other without chatters informing them. Sometimes these chatters are simply ignored by the person the secret's meant to be kept from, for the sake of telling a more interesting narrative, and sometimes the information is used to throw a wrench in someone's plans.
* LeParkour: There's a bamboo parkour course set up inside the arena. Connor struggles with it, to Schlatt and Michael's amusement.
* ParodyProductPlacement: "[=JokoPods=]", a parody of Apple [=AirPods=].
* PlayerKilling: Players on [=SMPLive=] frequently kill each other, usually for hits, but sometimes just [[ItAmusedMe for fun]] or for {{revenge}}.
* PleaseSubscribeToOurChannel: Several players have taken to carrying around a map in their offhand that says to subscribe using Twitch Prime.
* PoliceBrutality: The role of server cop is swapped between members regularly, but always results in this. When Schlatt & Co. become server cops, they take it to an extreme, harassing and attacking other players.
* PolicePig: When Schlatt and Connor are server cops, someone builds a giant wool pig statue on their property.
* PortalNetwork: There's a notably large one set up in the Nether Hub, allowing for players to quickly travel wherever they please on the server.
* POVCam: Most of the time the viewer will be seeing the events through the perspective of any one player.
* PressurePlate: Frequently used by players within traps, especially in Cooper's many pitfall traps scattered across the map.
* ProfessionalKiller: Given the hit system, nearly every player on the server tends to be one.
* PutOnABus: Some characters went absent for a bit with no in-universe explanation. This is because [[RealLifeWritesThePlot their real life counterparts were all at TwitchCon]].
* QuirkyTown: {{Exaggerated|Trope}} with the entire server. Spawn City has a strip club and a crack house right across from the church, someone built an entire castle out of melons, the Nether is haunted by strange recreations of Sonic made out of blocks that chase the players down... Nothing on this server is ''ever'' normal.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes R-Z]]
* RacingMinigame: There is a boat racing track in Spawn City for players to conduct races on.
* RageQuit: When Travis lets Joko get blown up by a creeper:
--> '''Joko:''' I'M GETTING OFF!!
* RandomEventsPlot: Unlike a lot of other SMP series, [=SMPLive=] does not have a large overarching plotline, instead focusing on the random shenanigans the characters get up to.
* RapidFireComedy: Bits and gags in [=SMPLive=] seem to pop up one after another, non-stop, with old ones getting discarded quickly.
* ReferenceOverdosed: Due to being a ''Minecraft'' server -- many players have skins of existing fictional characters, many builds are based on other works, and of course, many conversional references will be dropped. Check the [[ShoutOut/SMPLive Shout-Out]] page to see the many references.
* ReligionIsWrong: The main ideal of the Anti-Cult Coalition as their goal on the server is to combat religious groups that pop up.
* ReunionShow: [=SMPLive=] came back for one day as part of Michaelmcchill's Raising the Bar charity event.
* RewatchBonus: There's often so much happening that you're bound to miss small details the first time around, especially things like in-game chat and various {{Funny Background Event}}s.
* RulesLawyer: Most members of the server won't follow the rules themselves, but still know them very well. When they see an opportunity to get someone else in trouble, they won't hesitate to take it.
* TheSacredDarkness: The [[spoiler:Void Cult worship the dark, endless nothingness of the Void]].
* SceneryPorn:
** Luemas's videos showing off her builds are filled with cinematic shots of her elaborate creations.
** The Fallen Kingdom finale is also filled to the brim with scenery porn, showcasing all the little details of the BigFancyCastle.
* SeverelySpecializedStore: The vast majority of Spawn City's shops sell only one item.
** Cooper has a shop that strictly sells concrete.
** At first, this is {{subverted|Trope}} with Cooper's Slime, which at first sells ice as well, but he [[DoubleSubversion eventually stops selling ice]] and ''only'' sells slime instead.
** Connor's Family Friendly Ice Emporium sells a couple of different types of ice, but still just ice nonetheless.
* ShamuFu: JC and Joko have a fight where they smack each other with raw fish.
* ShapedLikeWhatItSells: The Loaf, a bread store at spawn, is shaped like a loaf of bread.
* SliceOfLife: The series primarily focuses on the everyday occurrences of the SMP and whatever weird conflicts and problems the characters get themselves into.
* SoftWater: Characters frequently use water buckets to break falls from heights. Occasionally this [[EpicFail fails spectacularly]].
* SpinOff: SMP Classic and [=TekkitLive=] are two servers with much of the same cast, but different gimmicks. The latter is an AlternateContinuity with the roleplay aspects being much more overt.
* StandUpComedy: Schlatt's act during the [=SMPLive=] Talent Show can best be described as "stand-up [[AntiHumor anti-comedy]]".
* StaringContest: Schlatt and Twomad have a heated staring contest in the Nether Hub.
* SuicideAsComedy: Goes hand-in-hand with [[DeathIsCheap death being cheap]] due to respawning. This most frequently occurs as a [[ComicalOverreacting comedic overreaction]] to a minor inconvenience or annoyance.
* SuperDrowningSkills: Connor once allows himself to sink to the bottom of the ocean while dramatically yelling at Michael to help him.
* SurrealHumor: A major element of the series, with bits like "æ", "Bean Yoda", conflicts over banning Obama from ''Minecraft'' restaurants, Pokay's "sea pickle" RunningGag...
* TakeThatAudience: A RunningGag on the server is to make fun of chatters who ask when Carson will be streaming in other players' chats.
* TalentContest: The [=SMPLive=] Talent Show, as the name implies, was an on-server talent show held in the The theater built by Carson.
* TheTeaser: Schlatt's videos typically start with a teaser clip before his intro plays.
* TemptingFate: When players are recieving their first hits for the Assassin Event, Connor says he'll start crying if he gets Sneegsnag. Naturally, that's exactly who he gets.
* ThatCameOutWrong: Connor accidentally implies he and Schlatt are married to [=AntVenom=], which he teases them for.
--> '''Connor:''' That's just the reality of marriage. \
'''Schlatt:''' Wait, the- Connor, [[TakeThatAudience don't give Tumblr material]]. You know better. \
'''Connor:''' ''In the company.'' In the company. \
'''Ant:''' No.. You said you're married. I mean, that's all you had to say. \
'''Schlatt:''' [[{{Gaslighting}} Nope. Didn't happen. Never happened.]] \
'''Connor:''' That is not what I said. That is not what I said. [[VerbalBackspace I did not say "we are married"]].
* ThatWasObjectionable: In the trial for the kidnapping of Rye, Travis objects to Burren's statements multiple times, despite Burren being ''his'' lawyer.
* ThereShouldBeALaw: A law is made that says that Nick cannot build ugly cobblestone structures at spawn anymore after he is sued by Cooper.
* TitleConfusion: The official website and logo stylize the title as one word, [=SMPLive=], while some creators confusingly refer to it by two, SMP Live. The former is officially considered the correct stylization.
* ToiletHumor: There is a "poop store" at spawn.
* TotallyRadical: [=VoiceOverPete=] tends to fall into this due to being the oldest member of the server and someone who isn't super aware of modern slang and memes. He will frequently overuse or misuse slang and tends to refer to the other players as "gamers".
* TournamentArc: The Assassin Event, which is an event where players have to hunt their assigned target down until only one is left. Except it doesn't go as planned, and no one wins.
* TrialByCombat: Ted tells [[spoiler:Schlatt he can contest his guilty ruling by fighting Connor]].
* {{Troll}}: Many players can be considered trolls due to their love of [[ThePrankster pranking]] and [[TormentByAnnoyance generally bothering]] one another.
* {{Tsundere}}: PlayedForLaughs in Connor's video of the [[https://youtu.be/-HUMNdzbRnc?si=-rzdGHggUbOWcZ2Z Assassin Event]] when he insists he didn't want to "be Katniss and Peeta" with Sneeg anyways... Something he brought up unprompted and then proceeded to ask Sneeg about in a whisper just moments later.
--> '''Connor:''' I won't have Sneeg helping me. And that's okay. We won't be [[Literature/TheHungerGames Katniss and Peeta]]. And that's fine. That's fine. I didn't even ''wanna'' be Katniss and Peeta. I didn't even want to, to be honest, chat! I don't even care, honestly! I'm not even upset!
* UnintentionallyUnwinnable: Due to various technical and organizational issues, the Assassin Event ended without a winner.
* UniversalGroupReaction: Everyone reacts with visceral disgust the first time Schlatt uses his distorted "funny mic". Some choice reactions include "What the fuck is that?" and "I'm physically ill."
* UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist: Because every POV was streamed, you can watch from ([[MissingEpisode almost]]) every player's perspective -- and they're all [[ComedicSociopathy terrible people who do terrible things to each other to make you laugh]].
* VandalismBackfire: Schlatt agrees to help Sneeg vandalize someone's property with a giant obsidian GagPenis... But is shocked when Sneeg takes him on a long, winding journey that ends at Schlatt's own base. He still agrees to help anyways, since he needs the gold blocks Sneeg offers in return.
* VisualPun: Ty builds a "complaint chest" for Schlatt & Co. that has a mechanism that gets triggered when a book is placed inside, sending the person down into a pit made of bone blocks with a sign that reads "talk shit get boned".
* WhiteVoidRoom: Altrive creates one as a prank on Jschlatt using blank maps and item frames.
* WorldOfHam: As much as [=SMPLive=] can be called a WorldOfSnark, it can be called a world of ham even more, as nearly every character has their hammy moments, and the shenanigans the characters tend to get up to are so bizarrely over-the-top.
* WorldOfSnark: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. Although not ''every'' [=SMPLive=] character fits the DeadpanSnarker bill, the vast majority of them have their moments of slipping into the role, and a large portion of the cast makes snarky comments on the regular.
* YetAnotherStupidDeath: Players often die in silly and humiliating ways, with the count of deaths they have being listed under their nametags for all to see.
* YouAreWhatYouHate: Despite being set up to fight cults on the server, the ACC is structured much like a cult itself, which is even {{lampshade|Hanging}}d in the description of one video:
--> "we started the ACC (Anti-Cult Coalition) - It's definitely not a cult"
[[/folder]]

!!Tropes that apply to the spin-off servers:

[[folder:[=TekkitLive=]]]
* AlternateContinuity: [=TekkitLive=] places some of the primary cast members of [=SMPLive=] into a SchizoTech world with nuclear weaponry, cannons, computers, and more. This leads to some drastically different character traits compared to the main server.
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: Fitz's skin is a swirly rainbow slime creature of some kind.
* AnnoyingBackgroundEvent: For some reason, Connor really loves to cause these.
** He continuously plants a sapling between Schlatt and Fitz while they're having a conversation, irritating Fitz greatly.
** He also tries to break into Sun Whale's base several times while Schlatt is trying to make a deal with them. This leads Cooper offering him redstone in exchange for him to just stop.
* {{BFG}}: Noah uses an amusingly large cannon to threaten Exploding Babies Inc.
* CanonForeigner: Kryoz is the only member of [=TekkitLive=] who is ''not'' a [=SMPLive=] member.
* ComicallySmallBribe: Cooper's offer for Connor to stop breaking into Sun Whale's house is a mere 13 redstone, which Connor cheerfully takes.
* CorporateWarfare: [=TekkitLive=] is primarily about competing companies using actual warfare and nuclear weapons against each other.
* GottaHaveItGonnaStealIt: Sneeg and Poke need oil, and they steal it from Schlatt & Co.
* HiredGuns: Schlatt [[spoiler:hires Technoblade]] to take out the competition.
* TheIntern:
** Just like in the main series, Ty is Schlatt & Co.'s unpaid intern.
** James is Exploding Babies Inc.'s intern and is constantly called such by Poke and Sneeg.
* LensmanArmsRace: The different groups continuously one-up each other when it comes to how advanced their weaponry is.
* LikeAnOldMarriedCouple: Fitz and Kryoz act like a stereotypical married couple.
* MadBomber: All three members of Sun Whale Defense Solutions have a tendency towards explosive methods of negotiation. While all of Sun Whale fall under this, Noah notably once built a "pile of bombs".
* MischievousBodyLanguage: Connor crouching outside Sun Whale's base while trying to mine a hole in their wall, something that immediately alerts Cooper he's up to something.
* NoBloodForPhlebotinum: All players want to get their hands on valuable resources and aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. One of the first conflicts on the server takes place when Sneeg and Poke need oil, and decide to try and [[GottaHaveItGonnaStealIt steal some]] from Schlatt & Co.
* PerpetualPoverty: Schlatt & Co. are allegedly tens of thousands of dollars in debt, but never really face significant downsides from this.
* SchizoTech: As a result of the ''[[VideoGame/TechnicPack Tekkit]]'' modpack, there is a wide range of overly complex technology at players' disposal, which clashes with the much more rustic nature of vanilla ''Minecraft''.
* ShoutOut: Sun Whale's jumpsuit uniform is based on ''VideoGame/{{Fallout}}'''s Vault Boy.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: In one of [[WhamEpisode the most climactic moments of the series]], [[spoiler:Technoblade shows up on hire from Schlatt to take out the competition]], and then leaves, not returning again.
* SwitchingPOV: Unlike the main series, [=TekkitLive=] videos often have the perspective of multiple allied players edited together, swapping between them as needed. For example, Schlatt's videos also feature segments from Connor's streams, and Fitz's videos also feature segments from Kryoz's.
%%* WhamLine: [[spoiler:"Hey, Technoblade."]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:SMP Classic]]
* GenreThrowback: The series uses various old versions of ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'' with the intent of invoking imagery of old school LetsPlay series of the early 2010s.
