[[WMG: There was an intended meaning to Stairway To Heaven]]
--> "And if you listen very hard
--> The truth will come to you at last."

[[WMG: Stairway To Heaven is about...]]
* [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin A lady who's sure all that glitters is gold.]]
* Death
* Drugs
* Its own MindScrew [[SerialEscalation potential.]]
** Thus making it even more of a MindScrew.
** Basically, it's TrueArt.
* The song itself is a metaphorical StairwayToHeaven. When you listen to it, you will temporarily access heaven because of the sheer amount of [[SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic awesomeness.]]
* Hope. That one day everything will make sense, and the forests will echo...well, you get the idea.
** ”There’s still time to change the road you’re on”
-->Does anybody remember laughter?
** Heck, Robert Plant said "I think this is a song of hope" in the rockumentary.
* A metaphor for people who believe their good deeds will pay off.
* Music/JanisJoplin. Robert was a big fan, (listen to "Ball and Chain", then "Since I've Been Loving You"), and became friends at a rock festival they both played at.
* Jacob’s ladder. I think some translations of the Bible even called the Ladder a stairway.

[[WMG: [[Music/LedZeppelin Robert Plant]] had a childhood encounter with [[Series/DoctorWho The Doctor]] ]]
Look at the lyrics to Kashmir. Clearly, The Doctor (a traveler of both time and space) needed Robert to help a peaceful race of aliens stranded on Earth (To sit with the elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen). These aliens have prophetic powers ( They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed ). The aliens explain their predicament ( Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace, whose sounds caress my ear/ But not a word I heard could I relate, the story was quite clear) Of course, Robert goes for a flight in the TARDIS (Oh, I've been flying) and ends up lost in an apocalyptic world ( All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground/ And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land/ Trying to find, trying to find where I've been.) The rest of song details the rest of the adventure involving the Pilot of the Storm, Shangri-La and the Father of the Four Winds. The title for the story? Series/DoctorWho and the [[FanNickname Hammer of the Gods.]]

And for the record, I wasn't entirely sober when I had this idea
* Maybe the "peaceful race" is the Ood?
* “Pilot of the Storm” could be a title for The Doctor—- he is the pilot of the TARDIS, the time stream looks like clouds and lightning when he flies through it in the intro, and he has been called “The Oncoming Storm”. He “leaves no trace” because he vanishes as quickly as he came once his mission is done.

[[WMG: The "bustle in your hedgerow" lyric in Stairway To Heaven was purposely made to be backmasked.]]
Considering the backlash rock-and-roll groups got from parents and MoralGuardians who balk at rock bands and their purportedly corrupting influence to the youth, the band purposely came up with the satanic lyric to piss off religious groups and generate publicity towards the song. The band reportedly denied the song had anything to do with devil worship, though the scandal brought attention to them regardless, and there's no denying that Jimmy Page is into the occult anyway, lending a kernel of truth to their insertion of "evil" messages.
