''Vampire Night'' is a LightGunGame and a joint collaboration between [[Creator/BandaiNamcoEntertainment Namco]] and Creator/{{Sega}} (Under the ''WOW Entertainment'' label) that was later ported to Platform/PlayStation2, published by the former. It is influenced by the ''VideoGame/HouseOfTheDead'' games and utilize many of the assets from that series

The game takes place in an AlternateHistory version of 2006 where everything looks like the 19th century. Two {{Dhampyr}}s named Light (or Michel) and Shadow (or Albert) are on a mission to kill the Vampire to end his reign of terror from a local village.

Not to be confused with ''Manga/VampireKnight''. Or Creator/{{Konami}}'s fellow light gun game ''VideoGame/EvilNight'', also influenced by ''House of the Dead''.
----
!!The game provides examples of:
* AffablyEvil: Diane is perhaps the ''most personable'' of the villains, especially given that she does not mock or insult the hunters but rather sics her crystalline vampire horde on them in the hopes that they leave peaceably. Count Auguste has shades of this in that he acknowledges the loyalty of his vassals, and Bathe'lemy at the very least acknowledges the hunters as worthy opponents before fighting them. The other bosses, Rauoul and Guillaume, avert it: Rauoul by being aloof and antisocial (perhaps half-excusable given that he is still hurting from the death of Sophie) and Guillaume by being an out-and-out psychopath.
* AlasPoorVillain: Diane's death is portrayed in a sympathetic light. After being mortally wounded, she reconsiders Caroline's earlier plea for humans and vampires to coexist peacefully and concludes that Caroline might be right before eventually dying.
* AllYourPowersCombined: Count Auguste's OneWingedAngel form can use the ElementalPowers of all his vassals during the last stage of the FinalBattle.
* AnIcePerson:
** True to her moniker as the Queen of Ice, Diane has cryokinetic powers, manipulating ice to attack the hunters. She also apparently created her vampire mooks out of crystalline ice.
** By extension, Diane's vampire mooks also apply as they weaponize ice in some way: the Petrovuh with its double-edged crystal sword, the Malglace with its ice bullets, and the Morciel with its ice boulders.
* AntiVillain:
** Diane, in addition to being one of the more personable villains, tries to get the hunters to leave peacefully, only taking her monstrous mermaid-vampire form when they persist. She was persecuted for her mermaid lineage from birth and fell in love with Auguste due to sharing and understanding his plights with mankind, and her love for him is the sole reason she became a vampire. It is only after her defeat at the hands of the hunters and an exhortation from Caroline that she considers that it is perhaps possible for mankind and vampires to coexist peacefully.
** Rauoul qualifies by virtue of being driven by the immense guilt over being unable to save the life of Sophie. Even after he takes on his true vampiric form, he largely retains his mostly human form, suggesting that despite his misanthropy, he cannot bring himself to fully give up his human side. He is also the only villain to survive.
* ArtificialHuman: [[spoiler: Both hunters.]]
* AssholeVictim: Guillaume, a cruel, sadistic MadScientist who conducts his experiments on people, falls off a ledge to his death after being defeated by the hunters (granted, he fell off willingly, but still). Rauoul curtly remarks that he deserved it.
* AttackItsWeakPoint: The game helpfully points out the weak points of some of the
* BarrageOfBats: In phase 1 of the last boss fight, he turns into a bat-winged demon and surrounds himself with a protective barrier made entirely of bats he can sic at the player characters.
* BeautyToBeast: Played with in Diane's case in that she gave up her beauty to become a vampire. She still retains her beautiful form, but her ''vampire-mermaid'' form is the one that is ugly, suggesting that her mermaid form was beautiful...
* BenevolentBoss: Implied with Auguste. He seems detached from the fates of his followers, but this can be chalked up to his weariness with immortality. That said, he gives them a considerable amount of autonomy, and he truly cares for Diane. Also, when he fights back against the hunters, he says that it is for his "devoted followers", implying that he is not wholly detached from them and acknowledges their loyalty.
-->'''Auguste:''' This battle is for my devoted followers!
* BetterToDieThanBeKilled: After being defeated, Guillaume lets himself [[DisneyVillainDeath fall off]] a ledge rather than let Albert and Michel kill him.
-->'''Guillaume:''' So...that's the way it is, is it? Me...defeated by humans? Never!
* BigBad: Count Auguste, resident VampireMonarch.
* BigFancyCastle: Count Auguste lives (ahem, so to speak) in one.
* BlackMagic: The Nerlphors (one kind of Rauoul's mooks) cast shadow balls after emerging from a moving shadow. Their name in the Japanese version? "Mage".
* BladeBelowTheShoulder:
** The Fercis (one kind of Bathe'lemy's mooks) appears to be wearing gauntlet swords in both arms.
** Bathe'lemy's true form has sword blades in place of hands.
* BreathWeapon: The Votroches (Bathe'lemy's mooks) are specialists at this. They circle around you and spray toxic breath towards you when you're open.
* CaptainErsatz: From the looks, the clothing, the SlouchOfVillainy, the LargeHam speech pattern, the gothic HauntedCastle, the OneWingedAngel demonic forms, and the fighting style, pretty much every fiber of the BigBad screams Dracula from ''Franchise/{{Castlevania}}''.
* CastingAShadow: Rauoul, the Dark Mind. He can [[DoppelgangerAttack create shadow clones of himself]], [[MindOverMatter levitate objects]] to use as jumping platforms with his hand. And in the final phase of the battle, he turns the castle into nothing but darkness, creating an evil DreamLand with a phantasm demon accompanying him as he mutates into...well...a mutant.
* CrystallineCreature: Diane's mooks: the Petrovuhs, Malglaces, and Morciels are all made of crystal. One can assume that Diane created these vampires out of ice.
* DarkAndTroubledPast:
** Rauoul's beloved was murdered by other humans, and he blames himself for not being able to protect her.
** Diane and her family have a mermaid lineage and have been persecuted all their lives because of it.
* DarkMistress: Diane is this to Count Auguste. She fell in love with him because she shared and understood his grievances with mankind (in Diane's case, she was persecuted for her mermaid heritage). Eventually, she became a vampire out of love for him, knowing fully well the ramifications of becoming one herself.
* DeathEqualsRedemption: It is only in the throes of death that Diane seriously considers Caroline's pleas for peace which she scoffed at moments before.
* DeathSeeker:
** [[spoiler: It's implied that Auguste created Albert and Michel to end his existence as he was tired of his undead life.]]
** Bathe'lemy, who became a vampire, [[WhoWantstoLiveForever found no joy in being an immortal]]. This instead gave him an unquenchable thirst for death he had not known as a human.
* DishingOutDirt: Bathe'lemy, the Knight. His slashes are strong enough to create a shock wave that can move the earth. In the final phase of the battle, he becomes a golem who can cut through stone pillars with relative ease.
* DontYouDarePityMe: Diane is sympathetic to Rauoul over the loss of Sophie and tries to comfort him, but Rauoul angrily lashes out at her and storms off.
* DoppelgangerSpin: Rauoul uses the technique to distract the hunters as he charges at them.
* DoubleWeapon: The Petrovuh (one of Diane's mooks) wields a double-edged crystal sword.
* DualWielding: The Dumur (Guillaume's mooks) is an armored vampire that dual-wields two curved swords. He attacks by flipping forward at the hunters with his swords.
* DreamLand: Where the second stage of the BossBattle against Rauoul takes place.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes:
** Rauoul's LostLenore, Sophie. Her death is the driving force of his revenge on mankind and, subsequently, his becoming a vampire.
** Auguste and Diane's love for each other is genuine. When Auguste set out to personally deal with the hunters, Diane intervened and convinced him to let her deal with the hunters herself; Auguste reluctantly conceded.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Vaguely implied. When informed of the death of Guillaume, Rauoul replies that he deserved it. This may definitely be an instance of Rauoul being icy, but perhaps even Rauoul was disgusted by Guillaume's penchant for experimenting on people.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: After being defeated by Albert and Michel, Bathe'lemy can only express confusion about why the two are protecting humans.
-->'''Bathe'lemy:''' ''[mortally wounded]'' Why protect the humans? What are you fighting for? Why? ''[drops dead]''
* EvilMakesYouUgly: Diane gave up her beauty to become a vampire, as reflected in her true vampire-mermaid form; it's very hard on the eyes. Given that Diane retains her beautiful human form even after becoming a vampire, one could only wonder if she initially was a beautiful ''mermaid''...
* EvilOverlord: Count Auguste, a vampire with many loyal vassals and {{Mooks}} threatening the populations and corrupting the land, and lives in an ominous BigFancyCastle.
* FailureKnight: Rauoul, who mentions he became a vampire after [[ILetGwenStacyDie failing]] to save [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes his love]].
* FireBreathingWeapon: The Ignis (Guillaume's mooks) wields flamethrowers on his left hand alongside a fireball launcher on his right hand. Doubles as MeaningfulName as "ignis" is Latin for "fire", [[BilingualBonus the former of which would be the basis for the English word "ignite"]]. His name in the Japanese version? Igniter.
* FrenchJerk: Played straight with Rauoul and Guillaume (and "jerk" is probably putting it nicely) but averted with some regular [=NPCs=] such as Caroline and the Shop Owner.
* GigglingVillain: Guillaume the MadScientist spends most of his screen time emitting a creepy, high-pitched laugh, BossBattle included. The guy truly is bonkers...
* GuardianEntity: In his OneWingedAngel form, Rauoul summons a powerful demon who punches and unleashes attacks from [[ThinkingUpPortals magic gates]].
* HateSink: Guillaume is evidently the most despicable of the main villains, as unlike the other vampires, his backstory establishes him as an already terrible who got much worse upon becoming a vampire. Even before he became a vampire, he was a deranged, sadistic scientist who conducted human experimentation in secret. He was forcibly ousted from his homeland when light was shed on his experiments, but Guillaume swore revenge on mankind. Being recruited by Count Auguste and becoming a vampire only served to amplify his misanthropy by a magnitude, and not only did he continue to conduct experiments to create a monstrous army for his new master, he also came to view vampires as inherently superior to humans, to the point where he looks down on vampires who are defeated by humans.
* HauntedCastle: The setting.
* HitAndRunTactics: Velociphers (armored vampires who serve Bathe'lemy) attack the hunters this way. They charge at them, strike with their swords as they run past, and run off a considerable distance before they return to repeat their attack pattern.
* HostageSpiritLink: Thankfully averted. The only innocents you come across are those with the vampire sarcomas on them that you have to shoot off. Miss, and they turn into vampire mooks you must put down, but otherwise, you are not penalized. Saving all the civilians in the chapter awards you with a bonus life.
* {{Homage}}:
** Rauoul's design is reminiscent of a certain [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII Balamb Garden student]].
** Auguste's form of attacks resemble those of the Hangedman and Magician from the first ''VideoGame/HouseOfTheDead'' game.
** Auguste again, whose entire character mirrors {{Dracula}} from the classical movies, and especially from [[Franchise/{{Castlevania}} another video game about vampire hunters...]]
** Bathe'lemy is modeled after UsefulNotes/NapoleonBonaparte. His hatred of humanity is similar to Bonaparte's hatred of Negro races.
* HumansAreInsects: Guillaume came to view humans as inherently inferior to vampires upon becoming a vampire. He was already a cruel man who did human experimentation before he became a vampire, but his exile and turning made him even worse.
* IHaveManyNames: Count Auguste is mostly referred to as Sir Vampire.
* KidnappedForExperimentation: Guillaume has been doing this long before he became a vampire, at least according to his backstory. He does kidnap Caroline and take her as hostage, but the hunters rescue her before Guillaume can get to do anything else to her.
* LooksLikeOrlok: The vampire mooks, at least those with discernible facial features, apply, being bald, with pointy ears, fanged incisors in addition to large canines, and in some cases, claws.
* LoveMakesYouEvil:
** Rauoul's beloved Sophie was murdered, and he blamed himself for not being able to protect her. Her death drove him to swear vengeance on mankind, and this increased when he became a vampire.
** Diane's love for Count Auguste is the sole reason she became a vampire. She knew the ramifications of becoming a vampire but chose to become one anyway.
* MadScientist: Guillaume, who performed twisted experiments on humans. And that is even ''before'' he became a vampire...
* MaddenIntoMisanthropy:
** Guillaume swore revenge on mankind after he was exiled for human experimentation, and he was already established as a cruel, deranged MadScientist beforehand.
** Rauoul is a more tragic example, swearing revenge on mankind when the love of his life is murdered. That said, his vampiric form is the least drastically changed of the other vampires, suggesting he seems unwilling to completely let go of his human side.
** Diane was persecuted all her life for her mermaid lineage and became a vampire out of love for Auguste. She initially dismissed the idea of humans and vampires living together peaceably, but her defeat at the hands of the hunters caused her to reconsider.
* MakingASplash: Diane also has hydrokinetic powers, being able to summon impervious water vortices. Her mermaid heritage might have a role in this.
* MindOverMatter: Rauoul levitates several things during the BossBattle against him for him to use as jumping platforms toward the heroes.
* MonsterKnight:
** Bathe'lemy is a vampire knight whose OneWingedAngel form resembles an armored golem with swords in place of his arms.
** The Velociphers (one of Bathe'lemy's mooks) are vampiric knights who slash their enemies with their swords as they sprint past them.
* MoralityPet: Caroline, both for the heroes and the less evil villains. She pleads Michel to spare Rauoul after he is defeated, and Michel complies by deliberately missing his shot. For the vampire's part, she manages to get Diane to reconsider the possibility that humans and vampires can coexist peacefully and conclude that she might be right.
-->'''Vampire Hunter:''' The girl, she changed us. She gave us the warmth of that of a human.
* OffstageVillainy: The Hunter's Files on Guillaume establishs that he kidnaps people for his inhumane experiments, but the player never sees him do anything of the sort.
* OneWingedAngel: All bosses pull this on you when you fight them. Special points for Auguste actually having angel wings.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: Zigzagged. Count Auguste spends the game in his castle, letting his forces do everything. Upon Rauoul's defeat, he was about to stand up and face Albert and Michel alone but was stopped by Diane, who reassured him that she would deal with them.
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: Diane. No, seriously. A vampire mermaid. This is evident in her true form when she turns into a monstrous mermaid.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: A variety of vampires you face throughout the game. Some of them [[LooksLikeOrlok bear a great resemblance to Orlok]], while the main villains have the ability to maintain a human form. Rauoul in particular is the most human-looking when he takes on his vampire form.
* PlayingWithFire: Guillaume, the Genius. In his human form, he summons fireballs to distract the Vampire Hunters, and his true form [[WreathedInFlames has his body being engulfed in a flaming aura]].
* PowerStereotypeFlip: You'd think that Diane would have an icy personality to go with her hydrokinetic and cryokinetic powers, adding another layer of meaning to her moniker of the "[[IceQueen Queen of Ice]]". In reality, she is one of the ''more personable'' villains. She is the only one who grieves Guillaume's death, to the point where she informs Rauoul of it personally, and she even expresses sympathy for the death of Sophie, though [[DontYouDarePityMe Rauoul does not appreciate the gesture]]. It also goes without saying that her love for Auguste is genuine.
* PuppeteerParasite: The sarcomas can infect innocent civilians and force them to attack player characters. The players are given a certain amount of time to gun down the sarcoma (they die in one hit), but if they take too long or accidentally shoot the host, the civilian will be forcefully converted into a vampire mook, which must be killed.
* RedOniBlueOni: The Vampire Hunters. Michel is the Red, fueled by his hatred for vampires, while Albert is the Blue, capable of socializing. Justified by the shots they make and the crosshairs in the [[Platform/PlayStation2 PS2]] port of the game (Michel has a red crosshair, and his gun shoots red, while Albert has a blue crosshair and shoots blue).
* RedemptionEarnsLife: When defeated, Rauoul reminisces [[TheLostLenore his late love]] and asks for her forgiveness. He becomes human again, and the hunters leave him to find himself back.
* TheReveal: [[spoiler: The heroes were created by the BigBad over three-hundred years ago.]]
* RingsOfDeath: The Cermitts (one of Rauoul's mooks) wield a chakram [[DualWielding in each of their hands]].
* RollingAttack: The Votroches (another of Guillaume's mooks) can curl themselves into a ball and attack you on sight.
* SequentialBoss: Most of them.
* ShoutOut:
** Rauoul mentions his lost love was named [[VideoGame/HouseOfTheDead Sophie]].
** One of the items you can shoot for points is a stone mask. Stone mask? With vampires? [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventurePhantomBlood Ya don't say...]]
* SinisterScythe: The Cirvergs (One of Rauoul's mooks) wield a scythe. In Japan, the Cirverg is named Sickle, making it a double case of MeaningfulName.
* SoleSurvivor: [[spoiler:Of those in Count Auguste's circle, Rauoul is the only vampire to live.]]
* SpinAttack: Some vampire mooks prefer to spin their bodies to improve their attack strength. The Fercis incorporates a spin after leaping into the air to attack with his sword gauntlets, and the Dumurs flip forward while swinging their curved swords.
* StartOfDarkness: Sophie's murder at the hands of other humans serves as the impetus for Rauoul's descent into villainy.
* StormTheCastle: The game scenario in a nutshell...
* SuicideBySunlight: [[spoiler:The way the two main characters end their lives. From their point of view, their job was done, and there was little reason to go on living in a world they were a danger to.]]
* TagalongKid: Caroline, the little girl the heroes save at the beginning of the game. She is wise enough to hide out of harm's way during battles.
* TragicVillain: Rauoul blames himself immensely for not being able to save the life of Sophie, his beloved. Even though he swore revenge on mankind and became a vampire, his vampiric true form is the least drastically changed, implying that he is unable to let go of his human side. Eventually, when defeated, he becomes human again.
* VampireMonarch: Count Auguste is an immensely powerful, centuries old Vampire Lord "living" in a BigFancyCastle and siring uber powerful vampires, each able to go OneWingedAngel.
* WasOnceAMan:
** The Hemavoras (One of the mooks faced in Chapter 1) were originally humans but became vampires after being infected by a vampire sarcoma.
** All vassals of the BigBad were human before he turned them into vampires. Upon his defeat, Rauoul becomes human again.
* WeAreAsMayflies: Bathe'lemy views human life as frail, which is why he sought immortality by becoming a vampire.
* WhoWantsToLiveForever:
** [[spoiler:Count Auguste, bored of immortal life as a vampire, created Michel and Albert specifically to kill him. However, his fear of death got the better of him, so he stripped the two of their powers.]]
** Bathe'lemy became a vampire and attained immortal life, but this did not bring him joy. He would then become [[DeathSeeker hell-bent on dying]].
* WolverineClaws: The Geomiges (another mook faced in Chapter 1) wear iron-clawed gauntlets that they can also use to burrow underground.
* WorthyOpponent: Bathe'lemy acknowledges the Vampire Hunters as worthy opponents before transforming into his true form.
* WreathedInFlames: Guillaume's OneWingedAngel state.
* {{Zeerust}}: While the game is set in modern-day France, everything looks like they were stuck in UsefulNotes/TheFrenchRevolution period. This might have to do with the BigBad manipulating TimeTravel.
