* ActorAllusion:
** During his NXT announcing, he mentioned Bayley using a flying knee saying "That move works wonders". Regal himself had the Knee Trembler as a finisher
** He also makes several shoutouts to Wrestling/LanceStorm, his former partner in the Un-Americans when one of Lance's students wrestles.
* BreakupBreakout: He formed a tag team in WCW called the Bluebloods with [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Taylor_(wrestler) Dave Taylor]]. Taylor, who has done little besides being half of the Bluebloods, was talented in the ring but had the charisma of a lead balloon (i.e. none). During their time together in the WWE in the mid 2000s, bookers would reform the Bluebloods when they didn't have anything for Regal to do in singles wrestling (most notably they were part of the fatal-four way ladder match at the [[Wrestling/ArmageddonWWE 2006 Armageddon PPV]]). Then when they did have a singles storyline for Regal, the team would be split and Taylor would fade into the background before being released.
* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer: Wrestling/{{Goldberg}} defeated Regal on the February 9, 1998 ''WCW Monday Nitro.'' A particular sequence in the match sparked a persistent online rumor that seemed to be treated as fact which claimed that Regal "shot" (made it "real") on Goldberg and that Regal was fired for it. Regal claimed that he and Goldberg had worked out a particular move sequence before the match, as Regal was attempting to work around the fact that most of Goldberg's matches to that point had been two-minute squashes. Apparently, Goldberg had forgotten part of the sequence and Regal did what he did to remind Goldberg of it. He said that he did not shoot on Goldberg, that he would never shoot on an opponent and that he was fired for his drug/alcohol problems at the time.
* CreatorBacklash: The period of time during his "Real Man's Man" gimmick, though not the gimmick itself. Although he believes it could have worked with someone else (if not, he said could have made it work himself), it was during a time in his life where his drug use was at its worst, and it showed.
* EnforcedMethodActing: He allowed Wrestling/AntonioInoki to shoot choke him unconscious rather than submit as was originally agreed, because he believed it would make for a better finish.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Was supposed to have teamed with Jean-Paul Levesque (the future Wrestling/TripleH) in WCW as the Blue Bloods, but HHH jumped to WWE instead. Ironically, Levesque left because he didn't want to do an elitist Blueblood snob gimmick only to go to WWE and become "Hunter Hearst Helmsley," an elitist Blueblood snob gimmick (albeit on the assumption that it would only be done until better ideas would come to him).
** William Regal was receiving a major push for the WWE title in 2008, that saw him become both the General Manager of 'Raw'' '''and''' win the King of the Ring tournament that year. By his own admission, he got self-conscious, started using steroids, got caught, and got suspended.
