* AccidentalDownerEnding: In TheStinger, somehow, with no explanation, Rorke survives what should be an unsurvivable situation and abducts Logan, dropping him into a pit in the Amazon to presumably undergo the same tortures that caused him to turn. Due to poor sales and other problems with the story, the next game in the series abandoned the Ghosts universe, and any future appearances of the characters have done nothing to explain what happened next in the plot.
* ActorAllusion: With a bandana tied over his head, Kevin Gage is basically reprising his role as Max Pryo from ''Film/GIJane'' as the BigBad of this game.
* BreakawayPopHit: While ''Ghosts'' is often considered a low point for the ''Call of Duty'' series, "Survival" by Music/{{Eminem}} managed to become a respectable hit divorced from association with the game.
* DuelingGames: With ''VideoGame/{{Battlefield 4}}'', which came out a week earlier, ironically enough the single player campaigns of each both share some major similarities, including reverting to a HeroicMime protagonist despite the main character of the previous games having a major speaking role and a major set piece mission involving [[spoiler: the aircraft carrier the main character is stationed on coming under attack and being directly boarded by enemy troops.]] Both games also have the protagonists almost drowning to death occur a startling number of times. However, this duel was ''much'' less intense than the 2011 duel between ''VideoGame/{{Battlefield 3}}'' and ''[[VideoGame/ModernWarfare Modern Warfare]] 3.''
* FlipFlopOfGod: On whether or not the UsefulNotes/WiiU version of the game would receive DLC maps like "Free Fall." Prior to release it seemed like Activision had no plans for it to happen, but in a surprise turn of events in March 2014 a patch to the Wii U version brought the Free Fall DLC map with it.
* SimilarlyNamedWorks: Not to be confused with ''Creator/TomClancy's VideoGame/GhostRecon'' or ''VideoGame/GhostSquad2004'', which also feature a fictional special forces unit named the Ghosts.
** The Federation is also not to be confused with the Federation world governments featured in some of the Franchise/{{Gundam}} series.
