* ColbertBump: ''Salt and Sanctuary'' received newfound attention from 2017 onwards when Website/YouTube content series and creators such as ''WebAnimation/ZeroPunctuation'' and Indeimaus mention it in comparison to newer or more popular "2D Souls-like Metroidvanias" such as ''VideoGame/HollowKnight'', ''VideoGame/{{Blasphemous}}'', ''Vigil: The Longest Night'' and ''VideoGame/EnderLiliesQuietusOfTheKnights''.
* DummiedOut: There are equippable items that were cut out from the final version despite having unique artworks and effects still present in the code, such as the [[https://saltandsanctuary.wiki.fextralife.com/Fluke%27s+Ward Fluke's Ward]], Stone Ring, Heartspent, Twinmetal Ring, Band of the Humble and Frozen Charm. However, they can still be spawned using a cheat program.
* FollowTheLeader: If it isn't obviously mentioned in the main page already, ''Salt and Sanctuary'' is heavily inspired by the ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'' series, taking cues from the latter's NintendoHard signature, several gameplay mechanics, and some similar plot points.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The game was planned at some point to have a weapon durability mechanic similar to that found in the Souls games. A repair kit used to repair items when out in the field is still in the game files.
** The House of Splendor's holy symbol was once planned to be a wooden bottle, which can still be found in the game files. The item's description also indicates that the creed was planned to have a heavier focus on madness than on hedonism.
** There was also a creed cut from the game which worshipped a figure called the Mad King. The creed's holy symbol, the Tree of Bones, is still in the game files.
** Frost damage as a damage type was planned and the game files contain a charm and a few consumables that would let players apply it to their weapons.
