Context Trivia / MegaMan8

* CrossDressingVoices:
** In Japanese, Creator/AiOrikasa voices Mega Man. In the English dub, he's voiced by Ruth Shiraishi, who also [[ActingForTwo pulled double duty]] as Clown Man.
** Aqua Man is voiced by Creator/ChikaSakamoto in Japanese and Michelle Gazepis in English. Both of them are women.
* ForeignRescore: Outside of Japan, "Electrical Communication" was replaced with an instrumental song.
* FranchiseKiller: Not necessarily bad ([[VideoGame/MegaManX7 there have definitely been worse-received games in the franchise]]), but the [[VideoGame/MegaManClassic Classic]] series slowed to a halt after this game, with only [[VideoGame/MegaManAndBass a spin-off game]] coming after. It would be many years before [[VideoGame/MegaMan9 a proper sequel]] would come, and by then Creator/{{Capcom}} decided to [[RevisitingTheRoots strip down the series and return it to the gameplay style of]] ''VideoGame/MegaMan2''.
* GodNeverSaidThat:
** Due to some poor wording from [[Creator/G4TV G4]], it was believed that ''VideoGame/MegaMan8'' was intended to be a Platform/SegaSaturn exclusive, but fearing the competition, Creator/{{Sony}} allegedly demanded the game. This supposedly explains why it has additional content, since it was released simultaneously with the Platform/PlayStation version in North America. In truth, this is actually referring to the game's North American launch, as it is noted that Sony agreed to approve the game on the condition that it had something special over the Saturn version, resulting in a collector's full-color anthology booklet enclosed with the first editions of the North American release. The Saturn version likely has more content due to the extra time to polish the game between Japanese releases. Ironically, ''VideoGame/MegaManX4'' was [[http://web.archive.org/web/19970414012218/www.videogamespot.com/sat/pltfrm/megamnx4/index.html intended]] for the Saturn first, despite the fact that it was released in North America [[https://web.archive.org/web/20110628221401/http://www.gamespot.com/news/2467735.html?tag=result%3Btitle%3B0 after]] the [=PlayStation=] version.
** It has also been misquoted that Creator/{{Capcom}} threatened not to release the highly anticipated ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil2'' after being denied permission to release their 2D games (including ''Mega Man 8'') in North America. While Sony did push for 3D gaming, in reality, the threat was merely an open suggestion to Capcom by a gaming journalist.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: To date, the Saturn version of the game has never received an official re-release on any platform, and its additional content has never been implemented into any of the [=PlayStation=] re-releases. Physical copies are somewhat rare online, and tend to go for high prices when they appear.
* MilestoneCelebration: The game was created to celebrate the franchise's 10th anniversary, and [[ContinuityCavalcade it really shows in the opening animation]].
* NoExportForYou: The Platform/SegaSaturn version was never released in the PAL territories.
* NoPortForYou: [[ZigZaggingTrope Zig-zagged]] -- While the game is available as part of two [[CompilationRerelease Compilation Re-releases]] (''Mega Man Anniversary Collection'' and ''Mega Man Legacy Collection 2''), they use the original Platform/PlayStation version of the game as a base instead of the {{polished|Port}} Platform/SegaSaturn version.
* ReferencedBy: ''VideoGame/ShantaeHalfGenieHero'': One of the achievements is named "Jump Jump Slide Slide". You get it by jumping over all of the barrels in the area where Shantae's sliding down a ramp, like the snowboarding sections in this game.
* ScrewedByTheLawyers: A very minor case all considered, but in the ''Legacy Collection'' the Rush Health icon no longer has the red cross on it, due to the Red Cross organisation's strict view on use of the symbol these days.
* VideoGameDemake: Much like ''VideoGame/MegaMan7'', this game got a fan remake with 8-bit graphics and sounds. Notably, it also shortens a few of the [[MarathonLevel longer levels]] like Frost Man's, removes the island and mountain levels, [[AdaptationDistillation all but drops the Duo/Evil Energy plot]], and implements the shop system from ''[[VideoGame/MegaMan9 9]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/MegaMan10 10]]''.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Duo was originally intended to be created by [[VideoGame/MegaMan4 Dr. Cossack]] instead of a robot from space, which explains why his head still looks like a Russian ushanka.
** [[https://twitter.com/Protodude/status/1448861982925467656 It was discovered in October 2021]] that the game had several features that were cut most likely due to time constraints, such as the ability to {{charge|dAttack}} Water Balloon and Thunder Claw (the former becoming Aqua Man's Water Cannon from his BossBattle), Search Man's obtainable weapon being his spiked disk instead of Homing Sniper, and bosses having more varied attacks.
