Given the {{long|Runners}}evity of ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'', everyone is a BaseBreakingCharacter in some way, but these are [[TheScrappy the characters nearly everyone hates.]] Sorted by the most relevant series.

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:''Mario Kart'' games]]
* Baby Daisy gets a lot of hate for essentially being slot filler in ''VideoGame/MarioKartWii'', especially by those who already found her older self to be obnoxious as it is.
* While ''VideoGame/MarioKart8'' has included several fan-favorites characters, both old and new, it still has introduced a few heavily disliked characters:
** Baby Rosalina. She's ''yet another'' baby character who, like Baby Daisy, has no basis from other games and seemingly serves as nothing more than to further give Rosalina, nowadays a BaseBreakingCharacter herself, even more representation in the Mario franchise than she already has. Just her mere existence [[ParadoxPerson doesn't make any sense whatsoever]] when you consider Rosalina's backstory in ''[[VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy Super Mario Galaxy]]''.
** Pink Gold Peach is a PaletteSwap slot filler up to eleven. Basically she's a metallic version of Peach that hasn't had any previous appearance, unlike Metal Mario. She has been subjected to a lot of mockery for her incredibly uninspired nature and has even spawned the meme of coming up with intentionally unoriginal {{Joke Character}} variants such as "Green Silver Luigi" and "Baby Pink Gold Funky Kong".
** [[VideoGame/SuperMario3DLand Tanooki Mario]] and [[VideoGame/SuperMario3DWorld Cat Peach]] are hated for being too similar to regular Mario and Peach, and for oversaturating the roster with Marios and Peaches. It does not help that the DLC also included the Villager from ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossing'' in male and female forms who did not get separate slots, not to mention Cat Peach's incessant [[HurricaneOfPuns "meow"-related puns]]. It also doesn't help that the other character to come with those two was [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Link]], making the two of them stick out even more when they're standing next to a highly anticipated crossover character. This seems to go into CreatorsPet territory as, when the [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosForNintendo3DSAndWiiU Smash Ballot]] was introduced, they used [[BreadEggsBreadedEggs Cat Mario]] as an example with the reason being "Because I'm a big fan of [[BuffySpeak Meow-Meow Mario]]."
** And now as of ''[[UpdatedRerelease Deluxe]]'', you get a new character for completing all the cups on 200cc. Who is this mystery character, you might be asking? [[VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBros2 Gold Mario]], who's a PaletteSwap ''of a Palette Swap'' (Metal Mario). BonusFeatureFailure doesn't even begin to describe it. Compared to other additions like Bowser Jr., Dry Bones, King Boo, and [[VideoGame/{{Splatoon}} the Inklings]] (all of which are available from the start), this inclusion sticks out like a sore thumb. And being the only unlockable character in the game turns out to be both a blessing and a curse considering that, at least, you don't ''have'' to get him; but if you do choose to go for it, you're still putting in a lot of hard work for another Mario clone. [[RuleOfCool At least his golden hue is stylish.]]

* ''VideoGame/PaperMarioStickerStar'': Kersti is hated even among fans of the newer games, with many considering her to be the worst partner in the entire subseries. She's a major {{jerkass}} for much of the game, with her EstablishingCharacterMoment being [[MisplacedRetribution chewing Mario out for not stopping Bowser]]. While it's implied that she's stressed out due to the Sticker Comet incident, she nonetheless continues to act rudely toward just about everyone she meets, including berating Wiggler for Kamek separating his segments. When Mario saves her in Rustle Burrow, even after she seemingly has a JerkassRealization, she ''[[UngratefulBitch instantly]]'' [[ComplainingAboutRescuesTheyDontLike belittles Mario for not rescuing her sooner]], and does a similar thing after Mario saves her from Petey Piranha later on. She's also a rare example of an ExpositionFairy that rarely gives useful hints; most of what she says is simply commenting on the scenery instead of giving Mario a hint as to how to progress, and she only gives hints regarding [[GuideDangIt Thing Sticker puzzles]] ''if and only if'' Mario's already found the appropriate Thing. There's also her habit of nagging Mario if he doesn't beat a boss without its weakness(es), which also makes Kersti a giant {{hypocrite}} since her quips are scarcely helpful to begin with. While her HeroicSacrifice could have been a legitimate gut punch, it's quickly undone when Mario uses the Sticker Comet to wish her back to life; even if that didn't happen however, many saw her sacrifice as too little, too late and quite a few even declared that they felt nothing towards her sacrifice just because of how much of a jerk she was.

[[folder:Other]]
* ''Anime/TheGreatMissionToSavePrincessPeach'': You'll be hard pressed to find anyone who likes Kibidango/[[spoiler:Prince Haru]]. Many viewers view his high-pitched barks as annoying, but he's mainly loathed for [[spoiler:being engaged with Peach at the end of the movie, negating Mario a happy ending with her]]. It's also quite telling that upon noticing that ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBrosWonder'' is set in the Flower Kingdom and features an animal prince similar to Haru, the fanbase's reaction was a collective "Please no!". Luckily, said prince was ''not'' Haru.
* From ''WesternAnimation/SuperMarioWorld1991'', we have Oogtar: a [[BrattyHalfPint bratty cave kid]] who runs his mouth and gets into trouble without any prompting. It doesn't help that he essentially [[ReplacementScrappy replaced Toad]], since Toad's voice actor, John Stocker, was cast in the role, [[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment despite Yoshi already essentially filling the role as the fourth character for that series]]. And to top it all off, [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking Oogtar doesn't even have any noteworthy memes to his name]].
