It follows Tyler Prendergast (Creator/JeremyShada), the [[StudentCouncilPresident student body president]] of Berenger High School, as he and his government attempt to pursue their objectives in the face of their obstructive new Principal Renee Helfrick (Christina Moore). The central joke of the series is that it is a HighSchool comedy in which the characters act as if they are in a GovernmentProcedural.

11	* AbsurdlyPowerfulStudentCouncil: The student government at Berenger High is apparently able to veto decisions made by the faculty, and the President is able to pardon students for minor infractions, both practices which are unheard of in real life schools. Of course, at least some of this power seems to come from Tyler's willingness to get his hands dirty to get what he wants.
12	* BrickJoke: Early on in Episode 1, Mickenna and Neila are suspended for using the word "Chodunk" on social media, and Savannah explains this is a new, made-up swear word used by Senior girls. Later, Natalie Vendenburg calls Tyler a chodunk for telling people not to go to her birthday party, to Tyler's bemusement.
13	* GoshDangItToHeck: Student characters often self-censor in the presence of teachers, TruthInTelevision for many high schoolers. This does not, however, preclude the occasional PrecisionFStrike.
14	* MachiavelliWasWrong: Hadley goes through this in season 2 when she starts a friendship with a group of kind hearted underclassmen who showed her being love is better than being feared when they invited her to walk with them during lunch. She realize the kind of sway the girls' positivity and kindness have on managing the student population and even almost suggested they get into politics.

He is willing to do whatever it takes, including threatening the principal, in order to get what the students want. On the other hand, he does seem to focus his plans more on groups he particularly dislikes, mainly anyone and everyone who thinks "High School doesn't matter."
16	* SeriousBusiness: ''Everything'' at Berenger, from the student government, to pep rallies to cliques, are treated with all the pomp and importance you'd expect to see on shows starring adults. Specifically, the student government wields more power than the faculty, pep rallies are an honored tradition, and different cliques are described using terms more suited to ethnic groups.
17	* SuddenButInevitableBetrayal: In season 2, the senior student members of the SGA all had a hand in humiliating Tyler as retribution for "phonegate". Jenna Corgey, Tyler's VP, going as far as trying to trade political favors for eventual control of the SGA and stage a coup with her fellow seniors.

19	* TheDragon: Hadley Pulito acts as one for Tyler's administration, being his right-hand woman who is even more ready to play dirty than he is, and very rarely questions orders.
