* Threat Level: On foot, Medium, but getting higher thanks to their time at Elysium Academy, and [[Pantheon/TimePlacement Byleth's]] tutelage. In their mecha, also Medium-Low, though that can change up to Medium-High depending on the Magiswords they use. That said, the Legendary Swordmecha Magisword can only be activated once a day, so the Division has to make their fielding count.

** Hunted Targets: All ''Pantheon/MonsterHunter'' monsters, [[Pantheon/BossDesign The Reaper]], [[Pantheon/GiantsAndSmallfolk Them!]]
* Distrust: All squirrels (Lagaard guild onwards)
* Every game that has a map mechanic eventually has a CartographySidequest, where rewards are earned for filling up that map, or it helps with finding areas yet to be explored. In most games, these are truly minor sidequests with barely a good enough character to represent them. However, for the ''Etrian Odyssey'' game series, cartography is a core aspect of the game. If one wishes to be technical though, it's assumed that the main quest of each game is to explore the Yggdrasil Labyrinths, while the "sidequest" (more like ''secondary quest'') is to map out the place for fulfilling other quests and for your own sake.
* Because of the lack of a main character, it was decided to ascend all of the player guilds that have participated in all the adventures so far (and to discount the Story Mode casts in case tropes can be found for them). If one counts every game as having been participated by one guild each, this counts as six.
** First off is the one that adventured in the country of Etria to explore the nearby Yggdrasil Labyrinth, which delved deep enough to find [[spoiler:the ruins of Shinjuku, Japan]]. Eventually, they end up [[spoiler:dooming Etria into decline after exposing every possible mystery within ([[FridgeLogic despite other reasons for exploring the Labyrinth still existing]], especially in regards to Lost Shinjuku) because they defeated the mastermind behind a scheme to kill all explorers before the Labyrinth can be fully explored; Chieftain Visil, who was also a survivor of the old era]].
** Second is the one at the northern Duchy of High Lagaard to… explore the nearby Yggdrasil Labyrinth, and climb upwards to the castle far above, [[spoiler:and to save its dying duke with the Grail of Kings reported to be found there]]. However, [[spoiler:what they found was a Heavenly Keep made as an ark for people of the old era, and the Overlord there (a head researcher who transferred his consciousness into a machine) was the culprit behind the powerful monsters in the labyrinth, who all used to be humans, and had used the Grail of Kings for that purpose. The guild that reached him eventually put a stop to that plot, and claimed the grail for the ailing duke's daughter]].
** Third is at the ocean city of Armoroad, where explorers were gathered for a specific purpose; there is something the Senatus hope to claim in the undersea realm beyond the First Stratum of the ruins known as the Yggdrasil Labyrinth. To challenge those depths requires more than a journeyman’s skill, else it would be a suicide run. And they wish to find worthy explorers. [[spoiler:As it turns out, Deep City and its Abyssal King are at war with the Deep Ones, and did not want knowledge of the Deep Ones' King to spread enough fear to the surface dwellers to make keeping it at bay harder than it already is, and in case their intentions aren't aligned. However, thanks to the guild's strength, they impressed Abyssal King enough to ask them to handle their problem.]] [[https://etrian.fandom.com/wiki/Items_(Etrian_Odyssey_III)#Cargo_Manifesto They also possess a boat for exploring the oceans (to reconnect Armoroad with the surrounding kingdoms)]] and aren't strangers to underwater exploration, even though [[spoiler:it's likely from advanced underwater architecture keeping the air in…and allowing sea life to "swim" in it just fine]].
*** Another thing of note is that their storyline has branching paths midway. The fork in the road comes in the form of [[spoiler:the Senatus of Armoroad wishing to take on the Deep Ones together, but the Abyssal King of the Deep City disagrees and wishes for only the guild and themselves to handle this problem. One path sides with Armoroad (gaining access to the Shogun class), and the other with the Deep City (gaining access to the Yggdroids).]] Due to NewGamePlus shenanigans, the Armoroad guild [[spoiler:has memories of both paths, though started pro-Armoroad first before then going pro-Deep City and seeing events from the former path in a new context]]. Coincidentally, [[spoiler:the pro-Armoroad side also had a quest involving healing sick royalty just like Lagaard]], [[spoiler:but the royalty they were healing turns out to be a Deep One as discovered on the Deep City path]].
*** That said, there's actually [[spoiler:a ''third'' path that could be taken, and that's what the Armororad guild "underwent" ''after'' taking both prior paths. It ends up with the Deep Ones' master being freed, though the guild managed to put a stop to their invasion by slaying the leader the Eldest One/Progenitor, and then eventually going deeper to put an end to the Abyssal God once and for all (who's technically also reachable in the Armoroad and Deep City paths)]].
** Fourth is at the remote city of Tharsis. A legend claims that something sleeping within the Yggdrasil tree in sight calls people to eternal paradise. The Outland Count of Tharsis wanted to ascertain the truth of this legend by issuing a challenge to explorers to reach Yggdrasil and uncover that truth. Many guilds flocked to claim fame and fortune, and theirs was but one of them. They rose as heroes, united with the Vessel and Sentinel races (plus saving the latter from extinction from a plant-transforming plague), [[spoiler:re-established contact with the Empire ahead (and even recruiting a few to their cause), and put a stop to the Imperial Prince Baldur's mad plan to restore his Empire at the cost of the non-human races and the Medium, as well as felling the Heavenbringer Titan he had awakened to enact that plan, which turned back into the Yggdrasil tree, which had fallen earlier due to the Empire]].
*** They also possess a skyship[[note]]Well, they were requisitioned a new one since their previous one is exclusively for Tharsis[[/note]] that can be equipped with all sorts of gear like Armoroad's boat, starting with a Foodapult that can fire large bait (though it's useless as a weapon) (and a Mk. II for longer range), but eventually gets various lures that net them rarer beasts, dowsing rods for finding treasure, a Windrider Bell that lets them fly against strong currents, a Storm God Icon that lets them fly into tornadoes without getting blown away, an Emergency Pole that sets up… well, an Emergency Pole for quick escapes (in their case, back to their temple), and a Twin Propellor for increased movement speed.
** Fifth is at Arcania, in the town of Aeolis, whose Yggdrasil Labyrinth was closed for a time due to a man who became known as the Mad King, who waged war on the other nations to attain enough military might to secure the power of the tree. Of course, all those other nations banded together to bring his kingdom to rout, and then forbid entry to the labyrinth after setting up Golems to keep out others with the same desire as the Mad King. Eventually, centuries later, exploration of Yggdrasil was reopened, but only to private explorers, and this guild was but one of them. As the guild discover on the Fifth Stratum, and after later context from other Pantheon locals, it turns out [[spoiler:that the planet they were on wasn't Earth, but ''Mars'', given life and greenery by the Yggdrasil Tree planted by the Arken race, and it sealed away the Eternal Tyrant that would ruin it and had done so previously]]. After vanquishing [[spoiler:the Eternal Tyrant]] at the top of the Fifth Stratum, [[spoiler:Arken of the Arken race requested the guild escort her to her vessel so she can proceed to her next assigned planet. After vanquishing the Star Devourer that had made Arken the LastOfHerKind, they either saw her off as she departed, or joined her on her journey to Earth]].
** And finally, the guild of the Flying City of Maginia ended up gathering folks from the first four above locations [[spoiler:since Arcania isn't even on the same planet (though classes there still make it here)[[note]]As of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzKET7GLLHU a DLC]], even they can be here, just not as their classes for most of them[[/note]]]] to explore the Lost Islands of Lemuria [[spoiler:their possible ancestral home]], drawn to its legends of lost treasures of an ancient civilization, or whatever other reasons they might have (duty, lust for adventure, seeking riches, escaping their past crimes for a new life in the city, and some guilds even give up exploring for that life), and led by Maginia's Princess Persephone Maginias[[spoiler:, who is of Lemurian descent, ]] under the Maginia Expeditionary Force. Among these possible treasures are more advanced skyships, teleporters, and even an elixir of life, but the one most sought out by Persephone is "that which brings everlasting prosperity to whatever nation possesses it", which Lemuria's apparently used all of its resources to create, that it lay at the foot of Yggdrasil.
*** This treasure [[spoiler:was a great power/abomination named Jormungandr, the World Serpent, which was made by taking energy from Yggdrasil. Evidently, Lemuria prospered only because it was protected by the World Serpent, which deterred invaders]]. And then when they misused it, [[spoiler:a.k.a. their enemies stopped coming]], they lost it and shortly perished under the wrath of a god [[spoiler:a.k.a. Jormungandr, which yearned for a target to destroy and turned on its masters]], [[spoiler:the few survivors fleeing in a flying ship, who are the ancestors of present Maginia]]. [[spoiler:Jormungandr sleeps beneath Yggdrasil to this day after the Lemurian royal family sealed it away]]. The guild has crossed paths with other parties interested in the treaures as well, like Princess Enrica of the Seafarers, [[spoiler:whose ancestors have battled with and lost to the Lemurians due to Jormungandr]], and are in dire need of this treasure given her country's larger neighbors. According to Chief Makiri of the native forest folk however, [[spoiler:it promises no such prosperity, and is a materialization of man's desire, a calamity which destroys all]]. There is also Blót, who [[spoiler:seems to believe that releasing Jormungandr would bring prosperity to mankind despite the warning of destruction because he is (or rather, he and his twin are) under the belief [[GenghisGambit the calamity it would bring will unite the world against it]] [[TheApocalypseBringsOutTheBestInPeople and usher a new era of peace]]]].
*** Naturally, the guild and Maginia as a whole were opposed to this mad plan [[spoiler:even as he successfully reawakened the weapon]] and struck preemptively to [[spoiler:put a stop to Jormungandr once and for all (Blót having died after awakening it and his twin blown off into the depths below)]]. [[spoiler:Or so they had thought]]. As it turns out, [[spoiler:according to Yggdrasil's avatar, which has been observing everything thus far, Jormungandr was merely rendered dormant after the battle, kept alive by Yggdrasil itself. In order to defeat it for good, an Yggdrasil Fruit (which has the power to birth another Yggdrasil tree) has to be used right after slaying it (again). Also, Blót's twin had survived and was down there too, now in hopes of finishing what his brother started, though he was eventually convinced otherwise by Enrica. Naturally, the guild accomplished this task, bringing the series to a close]]. %% *** More information from Makiri reveals that [[spoiler:Lemuria was an island where humans carried out various forms of research. One day, the world was struck by a great cataclysm, bring humanity to the brink of extinction when Lemurian researchers discovered that certain locations were inhabitable by humans. Upon visiting those lands and discovering the Yggdrasil Trees, they desired its power, and combined all their "genes" to create their own Yggdrasil, thus turning Lemuria fertile as well. This led to those from contaminated lands flocking to Lemuria, but even it could not feasibly sustain so many people, leading to war with the Seafarers, and Lemuria creating Jormungandr]].
** Of course, due to the ambiguous nature of being a set of {{player character}}s and the flexible chronology, it is not known how many of these guilds could potentially be one and the same, but it is certain that they cannot all be just one guild for the following reasons:
*** One, The Lagaard guild's [[spoiler:'involvement' in the immortality project]] invalidates the possibility of them being involved in other storylines.
*** Two, the Arcania guild [[spoiler:is from another world entirely. Mars, to be exact]].
*** Three, the Maginia guild [[spoiler:are told about the preceding guilds (sans the Mars-borne Arcania guild) by their allies who came from Etria (Shilleka), Lagaard (Artelinde), Armoroad (Edie Napier), and Tharsis (Wiglaf), and of those guilds' successes, thus giving the Maginia guild the courage to follow in their footsteps.]] Therefore, it's highly unlikely that their guild is a previous one.
*** However, some guilds can be possibly thought of as coming from one another via previous members potentially joining up.
** And being player-based, their fates after the "post-game" can vary, whether they stay at their city, depart for other lands together, and/or go their separate ways, since what they do after all their adventuring is out of the player's hands. For the sake of their ascension, all the guilds' members are together when the call of the Pantheon comes to them.
*** [[OptionalPartyMember Despite potentially recruiting them]], to maintain consistency and to avoid further complications on this profile, the ascended Tharsis guild will not have the Vessel leader Wufan, the Sentinel leader Kibigami, or the Imperial spy Logre [[spoiler:a.k.a. Whirlwind]] among its members, due to their presumed commitments to their respective territories even when the guild inevitably departs.

* The guilds comprise of the following Classes of adventurers, and the ones in Lagaard and Maginia come with [[SuperMode Force Boosts]] and [[LimitBreak Force Breaks]] (though these render Force Boosts unusable until the party returns to town):
** Landsknechts are powerful soldiers who wield massive blades, be they mounted on hilts (swords) or handles (axes). They're balanced in offense and defense, though lean more to the former. They also know how to [[ElementalPunch channel the power of fire, electricity, or ice in their blades]] for the physical-resistant adversary.[[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]For those in Lagaard, their Force Boost ''Full Charge'' turns all their hits ''critical'' for a short while, and their Force Break ''Full Gain'' deals one devastating cutting blow. For those in Maginia, their Force Boost ''Trinity'' boosts their attack power, hit rate, and action speed for a while, and their Force Break ''Full Charge'' nullifies all attacks on themselves and increases their attack power and action speed for a while.[[/labelnote]]
** Survivalists are explorers who, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin as the name implies]], specialize in survival techniques. Their knowledge of the Labyrinth allows them to hide in the shadows, ambush their foes, and guide their companions to swifter victories with skills in archery.[[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]For those in Lagaard, their Force Boost ''Illusion Step'' renders them extremely hard to hit for a while, and their Force Break ''Summer Rain'' fires up to 16 arrows on random foes, though hit the same target only four times. For those in Maginia, they share the same Force Boost though named ''Illusory Formation'', and their Force Break ''Mirage Arrow'' has them shoot an arrow on one target, rendering their actions slower and less accurate.[[/labelnote]]
** Protectors serve as knights with incredible defense who protect their fellow party members via protective magic or their own shields. They also learn a couple of simple healing spells to round out their repertoire, though nowhere as proficient as Medics.[[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]Their Force Boost ''Shield Protect'' simply further reduces the damage the Protector would take shielding an ally, and their Force Break ''Perfect Defense/Painless'' nullifies one turn's worth of enemy attacks, no matter how strong (like a titan's smash) or widespread (like a flurry of bullets) they are, on the entire party, although skills that exclusively try to inflict status effects can get past it. [[/labelnote]]
** Dark Hunters are leather-clad masters of [[WhipOfDominance whips]] and [[CoolSword blades]], and are fantastic at dealing out damage laced with nasty side-effects. A few expert lashes can bind their opponents up, then siphon away the last of their life force, while a sufficiently honed blade in their hands can deal pinpoint strikes to leave their target paralyzed, confused, or petrified. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]Their Force Boost ''Trance'' doubles the damage they inflict on a foe with status ailments or binds, and their Force Break ''Rose Prison'' does great damage to one foe and has a very good chance to completely bind the target and Poison them.[[/labelnote]]
** Medics are talented healers with a wide range of recovery skills; if it exists, they can figure out how to cure it. On top of this, their allies can enjoy some ''[[StatusBuff positive]]'' [[StatusBuff effects]], like RegeneratingHealth, elemental resistances, and "overhealing" for a while. Some even have what it takes to [[CombatMedic fight in the frontlines]] with a [[MagicStaff staff]] or a hammer, though there are only a few of these as it's an [[GlassCannon understandably dangerous]] way to battle. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]Their Force Boost ''Steady Hands'' makes their healing more potent, less mana-costly, and faster, and their Force Break ''Medical Miracle/Healing Touch'' revives any fallen allies, heals everybody back to full (except for TP used) and removes all status ailments.[[/labelnote]]
** Alchemists are have refined the very elements into secret formulas that can be mixed into jars and unleashed upon the battlefield at will. Not only are the powers of fire, ice and lightning at their command, and can learn several vital support skills like keeping tabs on horrible [=FOEs=] and warping the party away to safety. Their skill Compression also turns any area-wide attack they perform (skill or item use) into a devastating single-target attack. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]Their Force Boost ''Analysis'' increases the damage they do on an enemy's weakness, and their Force Break ''Eschaton'' influcts massive Almighty damage to all enemies.[[/labelnote]]
** Troubadours are performers who inspire their comrades to greater successes with their songs and dances. Supporters to the core, they're not proficient in dealing damage, yet can still effectively cover their allies from the back line. Whether it's adding elemental ''kicks'' to their weapons, healing, restoring stamina/mana, strengthening their bodies, or weakening the enemy, the Troubadour is second to none when it comes to helping others. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]Their Force Boost ''War Song'' pauses the duration of all buffs on the party for a while and prevents them from being dispelled, and their Force Break ''Crusade'' raises the party's strength, defense, and vitality for a short period.[[/labelnote]]
** Ronin are warriors skilled in foreign arts. All of their skills revolve around [[StanceSystem three basic stances]], each of which confers its own strengths upon the user and allows them access to specialized attacks. While changing stances mid-battle can eat up time (thankfully, they can do damage in the midst of that), [[MagikarpPower the results are difficult to argue against]]. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]For those in Lagaard, their Force Boost ''Immovable'' maintains the stand they're currently at and makes their katana skills more efficient for a while, and their Force Break ''Issen'' attacks all foes with a chance of InstantKill. For those in Maginia, their Force Boost ''Musou'' enables them to use all their attacks that require Stances for a while, and they share the same ''Issen'' Force Break, which has a higher chance of InstantKill the weaker an enemy is.[[/labelnote]]
** Hexers craft [[StatusEffects crippling curses]] to lay upon all their enemies, but the most frightening of their skills may well be their Evil Eye. Anyone who has fallen under its power can only [[PeoplePuppets obey whatever orders the Hexer gives]], whether that means turning against their allies… or even destroying themselves. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]Their Force Boost ''Creeping Curse'' Triples the chances of landing skills that inflict ailments/binds and makes them persist for a while longer, and their Force Break ''Black Mist'' forces all ailments/binds on enemies at cast time to persist a bit longer than usual.[[/labelnote]]
** Highlanders are spear-wielders who rely on using offensive skills by [[CastFromHitPoints sacrificing HP]]. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]For those in Maginia, their Force Boost ''Hero Battle'' increases the damage they deal with their spear skills and heals the party for a quarter of the damage dealt, and their Force Break ''Gae Bolg'' does massive Untyped damage to all foes at the cost of some of the party's vitality.[[/labelnote]]
** Gunners are marksmen with a truly impressive arsenal of weapon-based skills. Their shots can be charged with any element, strike any part of their target's body and leave it temporarily useless, stun an opponent outright, or even heal an ally's ailment. And thanks to their weapons of choice, they can deal all this massive damage from the back lines, well protected by their capable friends, though their accuracy can leave a bit to be desired. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]Their Force Boost ''Action Boost/Double Action'' doubles their gun skills (though the second only hits with 60% damage of the first), and their Force Break ''Supreme Bolt/Riot Gun'' does a lot of danage and is near-guaranteed to stun its target.[[/labelnote]]
** War Magi combine the healing skills of a Medic with the physical might of a Landsknecht to fill two roles at once. In addition to learning various recovery spells, a trained War Magus with a trusty blade can capitalize on the [[StatusEffects various weaknesses]] their allies have already inflicted upon their enemies. They may also learn how to transfer their own energy to others; combining that skill with the ability to drain enemies dry can help ensure an experienced party never runs dry. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]Their Force Boost ''War Edge Power'' ensures that the secondary effects of their War Edge skills always take effect, and their Force Break ''Fairy Robe'' heals the entire party to full, removes all status ailments, binds, and debuffs, and blocks all such incoming for a short while.[[/labelnote]]
** Beasts (white saber-toothed tiger, brown bear, wolf, or panda) are wild yet fiercely loyal companions with an unique array of skills. Many of these skills revolve around healing themselves, such as recovering faster from their injuries, draining an enemy's own lifeforce through their fangs, or even taking a quick power nap in the middle of battle! They can also potentially sniff out and scavenge any of the forest's treasures, and are incredibly powerful fighters. That said, given all the other classes so far, they're best utilized as tanks for the party (better than the Protector, even), though the guilds find having both a Beast and Protector in one party redundant. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]Their Force Boost ''Desperation'' triples their vitality for a while, and their Force Break ''True Endurance'' makes them tank every single blow on the party, no matter how widespread (like a flurry of bullets) they are, though they still take damage unlike the Protector's ''Perfect Defense''.[[/labelnote]]
** Princes/Princesses/Sovereigns are of RoyalBlood in some way, shape or form, and this gives them the power to help keep their party's morale high. They are definitely not to be underestimated; their armor may seem gaudy and ornamental, but they've chosen the path of adventurers and explorers, with all that implies. Their Orders can boost offense, boost defense, help endure fatal blows, block oncoming status ailments (but not binds), follow-up on elemental attacks with the same on one or all foes, and they can also purge all (de)buffs on a foe (or ally/allies in exchange for healing and being closer to using Force Boosts). [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]For those in Lagaard, their Force Boost ''Victory Vow'' allows their Orders to apply to everybody for a while, and their Force Break ''Proof of Nobility'' restores a moderate amount of health and a decent amount of stamina. For those in Maginia, their Force Boost is the same, but their ''Proof of Nobility'' instead prevents the loss of buffs on the party for a short while, and double the effects of some of them.[[/labelnote]]
** Ninjas have handled down the ancient arts of the ninja for generations, and have mastered various techniques (such as [[DopplegangerAttack shadow clones]] [[TakingYouWithMe last ditch bombs]], strikes that can [[OneHitKill petrify]] or InstantKill) meant to ensure that all their explorations end successfully. These versatile shinobi can function well in any position, be it right on the front lines or supporting their allies from the back. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]For those in Maginia, their Force Boost ''Diversion Gambit'' increases their evasion and DrawAggro for a while, and their Force Break ''Toxic Mist'' incflicts poison on all foes guaranteed.[[/labelnote]]
** Buccaneers are descended from those who once ruled the seas, and are experts with guns and blades alike. While they lack the raw power of Gladiators, they make up for it with impressive speed and an arsenal of somewhat less direct tactics, which mainly translates to [[CombinationAttack following up the attacks of their allies]].
** Hoplites are best known for their iconic armor, which completely encases them and provides unparalleled defense on par with the most famous Protectors. Spears are their weapon of choice, enabling them to fight up close or from the back line.
** Monks use the power of Qi energy to heal others, and naturally excel in unarmed combat, to the point that they can potentially fight on the front lines right alongside their fiercest comrades. With the lack of Medics in Armoroad, they are the best stand-ins for the healer role and are far better off there, though at least they aren't frail like the other backline classes.
** Gladiators have honed their bodies to become combat experts, particularly with the hammer or sword, and are completely focused on attacking in battle, ignoring such things as defense.
** Zodiacs are astrologers who have turned their knowledge of the secrets of the skies towards combat purposes; they can collect ether of the various elements and use it as a catalyst for their powerful star arts, even make it so that their allies can use their abilities at zero cost. They stand in for Hexers and Alchemists in Armoroad. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]For those in Maginia, their Force Boost ''Divination'' strengthens their skills for a while and recovers some of the mana used up on those skills, and their Force Break ''Astrosign'' inflicts a tri-elemental attack on all foes and frees mana/stamina use of the party's skills for a short while.[[/labelnote]]
** Arbalists have mastered the use of all manner of bows, from the familiar longbow to more physically imposing crossbows that are nearly the same size as them. They're capable of doing heavy damage from either row in battle, but it's extremely risky to do so in the front without someone to shield them.
** Wildlings, as the name implies, share an affinity with wild creatures and can communicate with them, [[TheBeastmaster going so far as to be able to convince these same beasts to fight alongside them during battle]], and even take blows for the team.
** Farmers are easily the weakest of the lot, having little to offer combat-wise. Where they excel is finding and utilizing the vast resources that the world provides (they can also revive fallen party members, and even lead the party back to town without the need for Ariadne Threads, [[{{Nerf}} though Maginian ones instead can only take a party out of battle and back to the last stairs or Geomagnetic Pole used]] [[CastFromHitPoints and at the cost of some of the party's HP]]); many have thus set out to find their fortunes, despite the vast dangers of the sea around Armoroad. Some of them do [[CallToAgriculture return to agriculture]] in the Pantheon, but they're all still game to explore or just gather materials. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]For those in Maginia, their Force Boost ''Item Echo'' makes items sometimes take effect twice for a while, and their Force Break ''Final Secret'' renders everyone else ready to use their Force Boosts instantly.[[/labelnote]]
** Shoguns are skilled commanders hailing from the far east whose tactics can change the tide of battle — and they aren't afraid to dirty their own hands, either. One of their best skills is Warrior Might, where in exchange for lowering their defenses, they follow up on their allies' attacks. And [[https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3720891&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=41#post451721289 with a little bit of math]], their damage output '''[[GameBreaker goes through the roof]]'''! [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]For those in Maginia, their Force Boost ''Unified Effort'' increases the party's vitality and attack power for a while, and their Force Break ''Decoy Party'' renders everyone able to negate a single enemy attack each for a short while.[[/labelnote]]
** Mechanical humanoids, Yggdroids have a variety of unusual attacks. They use knives or books (which every other class can use) in battle, can summon attack drones, and [[RocketPunch launch their limbs at foes]], and so forth. In desperate situations, like when fully bound (though they can actually make that easier with Core Dump), they can even perform HP Gun, which deals damage proportional to how much health they lost. However, given all the other perks all the other Armoroad classes can do, [[https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3720891&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=41#post451721294 they're pretty sub-par in comparison]].
** Fortresses are armored just as heavily as their name implies, taking up the duties of Protectors and Hoplites. With their heavy hammers and clubs, they also pack a considerable punch.
** Runemasters invoke the raw elemental forces found in the atmosphere, channeling them through runic symbology.
** Nightseekers lurk in the shadows while weakening their targets, sapping their strength with throwing knives before advancing with dual blades drawn. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]For those in Maginia, their Force Boost ''Killing Intent'' boosts their attack power and chance to land ailments for a while, and their Force Break ''Disaster'' is a single cutting attack on one target that extends the duration of any status ailments they have.[[/labelnote]]
** Snipers pick off their enemies from a distance using bows. They specialize in doling out critical hits, as well as aiming at vital areas in order to seal off their target's ability to move parts of their bodies.
** Dancers take up where the Troubadours of old left off, supporting and inspiring their allies with their dazzlingly quick, nimble dances. Along with boosting their strength, certain moves let them relieve their friends' exhaustion, and when the situation demands it, they leap into battle with a whirlwind of blades!
** Arcanists are part of the [[OurElvesAreDifferent Vessel race]] (''created'' by humans long ago, no less), who live in the wilds of the Second Land, and only join the Guild after the rescue of the Medium of the Vessels from the Hollow Queen with Wufan's help. By setting up special Circle fields, they can inflict various negative effects upon their enemies, and can attack or heal by releasing those fields. They can also cast Tame Ground, which reduces damage from painful terrain during exploration. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]For those in Maginia (who might be human or even beasts), their Force Boost ''Circle Paradise'' boosts their chance to inflict binds or ailments for a while and allows their Circles to persist further, and their Force Break ''Releasal Spell'' purges all buffs on all foes and reverts their resistances to ailments and binds (which normally build up in battle) to default.[[/labelnote]]
** Bushi are the fighting men and women of the [[BeastMan Sentinel race]] (''also'' created by humans long ago) of the Third Land, who resemble great beasts and possess all the strength that implies. They fight by bearing down upon their enemies with blades flashing, the flow of battle filling their bodies with energy. They only signed up after helping retrieve the Titan's Heart, the Empire revealed its presenve, and Kibigami offers to join the guild.
** Imperials have learned how to handle drive blades, special weapons which can perform powerful special attacks, but are prone to overheating. It's only after it's made evident that Imperial Prince Baldur is [[WellIntentionedExtremist going too far to save his people]] that they join the Guild. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]For those in Maginia, their Force Boost ''Ignition'' cools their drive blade for a while and keeps it from overheating, and their Force Break ''Conversion'' supercharges their stamina reserves.[[/labelnote]]
** Arcania has a variety of races, and each have their own classes (which all races can take on via Class Change if one so wishes). They can also take on Legendary Names to further specialize in certain branches of their art.
** Earthlains/Earthruns are basically standard humans, who come with a wide range of classes and are known for their defenses and agility. Their aptitude for magic is terrible, though.
*** Fencers are Earthlain fighters who skillfully wield pointed swords. While they share similarities to their Landsknecht cousins, they have a stronger focus on evasion. They can take on one of two Legendary Names — Phantom Duelist, which puts a greater focus on evasion and drawing attacks to them, or Chain Duelist, which is more aggressive and well-rounded and specialize on {{Combos}}.
*** Dragoons are Earthlain fighters who boast of defense as tough as a dragon and fight with artillery. They can take on one of two Legendary Names — Shield Bearers are more defensive, while Cannon Bearers specialize in greater ordinance. In addition to their shields and cannons, they can also deploy Bunkers and Turrets to DrawAggro (and while the latter can also attack, they cost more than the former).
*** Pugilists are Earthlain fighters who clear through battles with their tempered fists. They can take on one of two Legendary Names — Barrage Brawlers are highly capable of disabling their opponents and delivering a rapid flurry of blows, while Impact Brawlers take a high-risk high-reward approach with skills that grow stronger at lower health. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]For those in Maginia, their Force Boost ''Blind Rush'' increases their chances to incflict binds for a while and allows them to follow up on bound/ailing/stunned foes, and their Force Break ''Final Blow'' is a powerful bash attack that can bind a target's head, arms, and/or legs.[[/labelnote]]
*** Harbingers are Earthlain fighters who fell enemies with sickles that bring death. They can take on one of two Legendary Names — Deathbringers gets more debilitating ailments to boost their offenses with, while Deathguards uses their miasma to shield their allies. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]For those in Maginia, their Force Boost ''Unending Armor'' allows their Miasma Armor to persist longer, and their Force Break ''Miasma Tsunami'' lowers all foes' attack, defense, evasion, action speed, and resistances to binds and ailments.[[/labelnote]]
** Celestrians/Lunarians are an elf-like race that specialize in magic, but are consequently physically frail. They also possess InnateNightVision.
*** Necromancers are Celestrian summoners who command the spirits of the dead and use ''coffins'' to battle (and Necromancers can take a swing deceptively fast with those things). They can take on one of two Legendary Names — Spirit Evokers are focused on support, using a multitude of wraiths for offense and defense, while Spirit Brokers are more aggressive, using deadly attacks to generate high-health wraiths.
*** Warlocks are Celestrian sages skilled in elemental (FireIceLightning) attacks. They can take on one of two Legendary Names — Omnimancers gain unique spells that can hit with physical attributes ([[BlowYouAway Wind]] and [[DishingOutDirt Earth]]), while Elemencers greatly improve their elemental repertoire. While they generally prefer staves, they can also equip cannons if one so desires.
** Therians are beast-like people that have agility and health comparable to Earthlains, but also have very high physical strength in exchange for being ''more'' inept at magic than Earthlains.
*** Rovers are Therian hunters who command falcons and dogs. They can take on one of two Legendary Names — Flying Falcons specialize in commanding hawks to hunt any enemy, while Hunting Hounds utilize their hound companion to support the party.
*** Masurao are Therian heroes who potentially wield can up to four swords. They can take on one of two Legendary Names — Blade Dancers unlock the full offensive potential of the Masurao with multi-blade attacks (at the cost of being a GlassCannon, [[https://imgur.com/u1UdhMu and looking like this when quad-wielding]]), while Blade Masters eschew multiple swords to hone their skills with a single blade.
** The Brouni/Brownies are a race of smaller humanoids who worship nature. While not exactly the best at combat (with their terrible strength and luck), they are highly valuable due to their [[SupportPartyMember supportive skills]].
*** Shamans are Brouni who use mysterious powers to help their allies. They can take on one of two Legendary Names — Divine Punishers dispel their buffs to perform powerful attacks, while Divine Heralds access stronger buffs and can even restore health while doing so.
*** Botanists are Brouni masters of healing with herbs, but can also utilize their knowledge of herbs to inflict debilitating ailments. They can take on one of two Legendary Names — Merciful Healers gain stronger healing skills, while Graced Poisoners utilize stronger Smoke skills to wreak havoc on enemy lines.
** Heroes hail from the floating city of Maginia, and can fill most any role, whether attacking, defending, or supporting. They're also known for spawning afterimages that repeat their last-used skill (and can be targeted by enemies as a distraction). [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]Their {{Limit Break}}s consist of ''Brave Heart'', which drastically boosts the Hero's chance of spawning afterimages and the power of those afterimages for three turns, and ''Miracle Edge'', which unleashes a flurry of close-range cut attacks on all enemies and then heals all allies above their max HP. [[/labelnote]]
** The Armoroad guild has equippable [[https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3720891&pagenumber=90#post477651915 Limits]] in place of individual Boosts by way of Scripts, and these can involve more than one party member at a time.
** As for the others, the Etria guild merely has the ability to [[https://etrian.fandom.com/wiki/Boost Boost]] their abilities, the Armoroad Guild has [[https://etrian.fandom.com/wiki/Limits Limits]] learned through Scripts as mentioned above, the Tharsis guild has [[https://etrian.fandom.com/wiki/Burst_Skill Burst Skills]] that work just about the same as Limits, and the Arcania guild has [[https://etrian.fandom.com/wiki/Union_Skill Union Skills]] specialized to each race (though other allies regardless of who/what they are can pitch in as long as an Arcania guild member initiates).
** Also, the "power" of subclasses (only for the Armoroad, Tharsis, and Maginia guilds) allows for the use of the abilities of other classes. Of course, generalization is not recommended, so don't expect the physical types to dabble in spells or vice-versa. Rather…
*** For Armoroad, one can have a Hoplite with Ninja techniques to make a shadow clone of oneself and double on defenses, a Ninja with a Zodiac's Dark Ether can optimize mana use for the party, a Monk could make great use of the Sovereign's Orders, a Farmer might actually be able to InstantKill/[[TakenForGranite Petrify]] something with a Ninja jutsu thanks to their great Luck, Gladiators with Shogun skills can really do a lot of wrecking, Arbalists can ramp up the damage with the Gladiator's Berserker Vow, and Yggdroids essentially ''require'' a subclass to function as effectively as their fleshy comrades ([Punch] Monk and Hoplite are the best).
*** For Tharsis, Dancers can rack up the attacks-per-turn with Nightseeker's DualWield, Nightseekers can maximise the potency of their poisons with some of the Arcanists' passives, and Imperials can make weaknesses with a Runemaster's Elemental Runes to ramp up the obscene damage they can already do by default (at the cost of cooldowns).
*** For Maginia, Harbingers can stack the Miasmas and their attack rate with Ninja skills, Gunners can rack up their chances to bind foes with Pugilist skills and rack up damage with Raging Billows (increases damage the more ailments/binds the target has), Protectors can get even tankier with Highlander skills, and Heroes can maximize the damage output from their Afterimages with Imperial Drives.
** In addition, Vampires are actually a subclass for the Maginia guild members, accessible only by wearing the Scarlet Evil Eye. [[labelnote:Force Boosts and Force Breaks]]They have their own Force Boost and Force Break that replaces that of their current class: their Force Boost ''Undying Soul'' enables them to survive mortal blows for a while, and their Force Break ''Ghastly March'' revives fallen allies and performed an "untyped" multi-hit attack (how many depends on number of revived allies plus 2) to a single enemy.[[/labelnote]]
*** Speaking of the Scarlet Evil Eye, there's only one available for this Maginia guild, and it's not known which of their number has the Vampire apart from a discomfort for sunlight. And due to GameplayAndStorySegregation, the Eye can be transferred between members without much consequence.

%% ** There's a rumored class called [[https://i.imgur.com/7fbHSf6.jpg Dollm]][[https://i.imgur.com/3OWQHAg.jpg asters]]

* With so many locations to traverse and map, the guilds have set their eyes on several dungeons. Even if some of them are the special type that change their architecture after leaving, it's still a good way to keep their cartography skills sharp.
** The Darkest Estate is one such locale for the guilds, and they do get some profits in selling copies of their maps to other adventurers there, not to mention their Yggdrasil trips mean they get more out of the land than the Heir's hired Adventurers, though the numerous human foes they need to kill do dishearten them considerably (less so for the Etria guild, who had to exterminate the forest folk[[labelnote:]]Story Mode retcons this to protecting the town and the other non-infected forest folk from a spreading pandemic, but that doesn't apply even in Untold's Classic Mode[[/labelnote]] in the 4th Stratum of their labyrinth [in actuality, [[spoiler:Visir was hoping the ''forest folk would wipe out the guild'', but that plan obviously backfired]]], though enough did manage to survive to establish a kingdom as the Armoroad guilds can attest to, if the swordsman Lindworm was any indication), and they loot only their belongings (curios and gold all still go to the Heir's funds to maintain his Adventurers). [[Pantheon/VillainousArchetypes Crimson Court]] vampires and other formerly-human creatures though are still liable to get their parts harvested. And after the first two parties they sent to the Darkest Dungeon ended up needing to retreat ([[EldritchLocation the first's map ending up being useless to the second]]), and hearing of the terrors within, they have elected to ''never again'' venture to that particular location. [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking There wasn't even any worthwhile loot save for the one Ancestor's Knapsack, but it held items that can be more easily found elsewhere in the estate.]]
*** Speaking of the [[Pantheon/RoyalPersonalities Crimson Court]], their "temple" is also one of many places the guilds take on and have become one of many of their annoyances, especially to the guilds' Sovereigns.
*** As for [[Pantheon/FleshEaters The Hag]], they're somewhat more distressed when fighting her than the Heir's adventurers whenever she sends one of their own Into The Pot! On the other hand, she's annoyed that whenever they do beat her, they also try to make off with her cauldron, too.
** Yomi's Dungeon is quite the anomalous case given all the {{Cute Monster Girl}}s that populate it. Because of their humanoid appearance, it feels wrong to harvest their parts, and so their loot is limited to stolen weapons, some ejected slime, the Abyssal Cow's milk, chocolate from the Chocolate Mimic, the Queen Bee's honey, and mana shards to trade to Charlotte for items. And to keep things from [[AllMenArePerverts getting way too perverted]], the guild's only letting the following guys explore (all females are permitted by default) after testing and confirming these traits without a doubt: the [[ChasteHero unnaturally chaste]], the [[CelibateHero utterly celibate]], [[SorryImGay the homosexual]], [[SeductionProofMarriage the married as long as they can stay faithful to their spouses]], those ObliviousToLove, and those NotDistractedByTheSexy.
** [[Pantheon/OtherDominions The Abyss]] is one of the most challenging places yet given the Strains of Ascent once you've gone deep. It doesn't help that there are no Geomagnetic Poles for quick teleportations, and the use of Ariadne Threads is discouraged due to nobody knowing just how the Strains would affect someone warping back through multiple layers. The Armoroad guild is most equipped for this task, as they are more accustomed to camping, not to mention the Yggdroids being mechanical bypasses the Curse of the Abyss, even if Yggdroids aren't the most optimal of them. They (well, their Yggdroids [and with the Yggdroid Plan, they can construct as many as necessary]) intend to delve as deep as they possibly can (which would take a long time since they intend to ''comb the entire place'' rather than race down there like most Delvers), probably even reach the bottom, given what they've accomplished thus far.
*** Theoretically, the Maginia guild can also deploy Yggdroids who can take on any class combination, so they're participating in exploring the Abyss as well.
*** Their biggest snag so far is the Great Fault, where finding or forging a reliable way down ''and'' up is an arduous task. And given the Fifth Layer's Strains, the Fourth Layer might be the limit for the organic members of the guilds. It will have to be Yggdroids from then on.
*** Which brings them to Bondrewd's domain, %%
** King Togwaggle's Catacombs serve as another location worth exploring, and he actually likes them less than other explorers due to how powerful they can be and even run the risk of clearing his catacombs ''repeatedly''.
** They have even tried making deals with [[Pantheon/SpecializedNarratives Yu Narukami]] and [[Pantheon/{{Thieves}} Ren Amamiya]] for permission to explore the [[Pantheon/{{Dimensions}} TV World and Mementos]] respectively, even explaining to the latter that they have no plans on seeking out any deities' Shadows (to change their hearts, or kill them to trigger a mental shutdown) or traversing any Palaces without Ren and his crew's express permission.
*** Yu can allow ''one'' trip with the Team, and it will be a trip to one of the Guild member's Dungeons[[note]]Implied to be a member of the Etria guild who had second thoughts on the Forest Folk genocide[[/note]]. Whether or not they get a Persona out of the ordeal, gaining a Persona Card that is bequeathed after settling matters with and accepting the Shadow should be enough for the Guild to travel in there without the Team. They can then obtain more Persona Cards for more guild members by having them face their Shadows, which should then allow for more trips. However, Yu asks to limit their number of explorers in the TV World to a single party (maximum of 5) at a time. Whether those 5 or less split up to tackle multiple dungeons is their business. More can wait outside, but they aren't allowed entry.
*** Ren however was against their idea for two reasons. One, he cannot trust them ''or'' keep having members dedicated to watch over every excursion. Two, it just feels wrong to have Mementos be treated like a resource trove, even if that's what the Phantoms essentially do.
*** Speaking of them, the guilds eventually heard of their (and S.E.E.S., and Zen and Rei's) [[VideoGame/PersonaQShadowOfTheLabyrinth expeditions in]] [[VideoGame/PersonaQ2NewCinemaLabyrinth labyrinths]]. Regardless of the deals they made, they decided that allying with them would still be a good idea. Though apparently their definition for F.O.E., rather than ''Formido Oppugnatura Exsequens'' or ''Field-On Enemy'', is ''Fysis Oikein Eidolon'' (according to Zen and Rei) or ''Film Obscurité Étendeu'' (according to [[Pantheon/OtherEmotions Hikari]]).
** [[Pantheon/GameDesign The Keeper's Dungeon]] is also on their list, and the Keeper was pretty peeved by their presence given they spend more time wiping out his forces and ''harvesting them for parts'' than searching for his treasure, are too cautious for his liking thanks to their adventures in their Yggdrasil Labyrinths (multiple "dungeons" in the case of the Tharsis and Maginia guilds), are too quick to retreat when things go sour, and have the sense to ''map out his dungeon'' for future ventures (and to sell to other adventurers), forcing him to "reset" his temple. Eventually, it became a low-priority location due to the lack of variety of loot (unless a quest specifies something in the Keeper's Dungeon that isn't the treasure), not to mention the Keeper being able to smite the entire party as soon as they enter whenever he likes (at the cost of gold, though). %%, and the fact that the Keeper can change up his dungeon however he likes whenever he likes (thus making their cartography a pointless venture, though they can easily sell those maps to other incoming adventurers).
** They've also decided to tackle [[Pantheon/{{Dimensions}} the Upside Down]], and given the post-game bosses they have felled, not to mention their cartography skills, they've proven to be a great asset in mapping out the place. They eventually hope to find the Treasury there.
** [[Pantheon/{{Dimensions}} Minecraft]] is another haven of exploration for the guilds, even if its resources (''including'' the Nether, the End, ''and'' VideoGame/TheAether) aren't quite as varied as the Yggdrasil Labyrinths.
** Another realm they've been banned from exploring is the Spirit World (by [[Pantheon/{{Sadness}} Korra]] and [[Pantheon/{{Nature}} Aang]]); the former doesn't want it being exploited just as [[Pantheon/AntiVillains Kuvira]] once had with Spirit Vine weaponry. Not to mention that some of the flora are sapient, too, in which the Etria guild made the decision to back off; they had been forced to commit genocide before in their Labyrinth, and it would be in everyone's best interest that they don't do it again.
** Other Dominions they've been blacklisted from include [[{{Pantheon/Islands}} Monster Island]] (under [[Pantheon/{{Insects}} Mothra's]] protection), [[{{Pantheon/Islands}} Skull Island]] (under [[Pantheon/{{Mammals}} King Kong's]] protection), and [[Pantheon/OtherDominions Helheim Forest]] (getting in in the first place requires [[spoiler:the help of [[Pantheon/KamenRiderGaim Kouta Kazuraba/Kamen Rider Gaim, Kaito Kumon/Kamen Rider Baron, or Mai Takatsukasa]]]], and they're not spending time to just open Cracks for them).
*** Naturally, most Dominions populated with sapient races (such as the Great Valley) are in this blacklist too, though the Jura Tempest Federation has a labyrinth attraction specifically for adventurers, the Metro occasionally calls for clearing out monsters, Raccoon City is another permitted area to help keep the zombies out, Sugar Rush has a heavy limit so that it doesn't get sucked dry (and harvesting the citizens is obviously not permitted), and the Field of the Ancients are explored by them at their own risk.
** [[Pantheon/{{Workmanship}} The Cha]][[Pantheon/LivingObjects lkzone]] was also in consideration, but was shortly removed from their list due to the fact that everything there is susceptible to liquid, and the zone isn't really teeming with dangerous creatures.

* Applies to all the guilds:
** For the sake of consistency and by virtue of being the SeriesMascot, TheFace of their collective guilds is [[https://etrianodysseywiki.org/wiki/File:Portrait_eo2u_protector_02.png this Protector]] named Shishou, [[spoiler:who may or may not have some involvement with the Empire past Tharsis]]. Alternatively, the Heroes in the Maginia guild would also count.
** In addition to your standard adventurers, some of the guilds also have teams specialized in gathering resources at points the adventurers have marked and where there's an easy way out for easy harvests. They either comprise of specialized Survivalists or Armoroad/Maginia Farmers (or Ninjas with Farmer as a subclass). No, [[https://lparchive.org/Etrian-Odyssey-2-Untold-The-Fafnir-Knight/Update%2002/ they're not Yggdroids named]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgGOLvbknow Byeah]]. Not ''all'' of them, at least.
** Their "temple" is comprised of a small town populated by all the guild members (as each guild has a maximum of 30 members each, except Maginia with its maximum of 60, this counts up to 210 people total). One can find several Farmers there too, when they aren't harvesting materials for the guild. Some of them are likely Ninjas too via Armoroad/Maginia subclassing, which helps in their survival at dangerous territories. At least one of them is a mainline explorer, too, though usually not when it's time to take on a boss.
*** In regards to specifics however, there's usually one of each class for each guild, leaving the rest ambiguous as to what they are, so:
*** Etria: 9, plus five Survivalists for "farming", leaving 16 slots.
*** Lagaard: 14, plus five Survivalists for "farming", leaving 11 slots.
*** Armoroad: 12, plus five Farmers, and five Ninjas with the Farmer subclass, leaving 8 slots.
*** Tharsis: 10, leaving 20 slots.
*** Arcania: 10 + 10, two of each class with each Mastery, leaving 10 slots.
*** Maginia: 19 (with at least one with a Vampire-subclass among them), five Survivalists and/or Farmers for "farming", leaving 36 slots.
** Because of the numerous beasts they kill on a regular basis, the Bestiary has a heavy hunting limit set on the guilds, and that only one party at a time is allowed within the premises. Oh, and hunting Pokémon is off-limits due to the presence of Arceus. [[Franchise/ShinMegamiTensei SMT!Demons]] are still fair game, though.
*** And [[Pantheon/{{Planets}} the Pokémon world]] is off-limits, too, even if they can ignore the Pokémon themselves and settle for Berries, mushrooms, precious stones, etc. because there will always be those few who can't help themselves.
** They will stop at almost nothing to map the dungeons they travel in, be it a monster, FOE, fellow adventurers, or even [[spoiler:(in the case of the Armoroad guilds) a super powerful Yggdroid, no matter their size]].
** Occasionally hunt the same beasts the Monster Hunters do given their experience with [=FOEs=].
** Any party that ends up in the House of Pantheon/{{Gaming}} (which is all the time since they reside there) is always, well, game to hunt down the Reaper, who—as far as they're concerned—is just a high-tiered FOE.
** Whenever there's a treasure room, the guild members are always on edge, because in the labyrinths they've been to, monsters come their way far more often in such rooms.
** As explorers of uncharted territory, they're always checking all sorts of things for materials, and even try out all sorts of potential nourishment like fruits, water sources, tree sap, dandelion roots (for coffee), and even moss. Of course, those come with their own hazards, but that's part of what makes exploration a thing.
** Petaloids are a pain due to [[ForcedSleep inducing sleep]], which is really deadly to do while out exploring, and so they have a pathological impulse to prioritize such creatures to take down or at least disable.
** In addition to taking jobs at the Pantheon/PantheonicSoldiersOfFortune and other mercenary guilds, they also frequent all sorts of bars, other eateries, and anywhere people discuss matters and all sorts of woes.
** Besides medicines to heal wounds, recover from status effects, or even bring {{back from the dead}}, the guilds also order bottles of formaldehyde. When asked why, they claim it helps with getting "conditional drops" too hard to attempt "the old-fashioned way".
** As someone else from a post-apocalyptic world [[spoiler:that used to be Earth]], they got along with Aloy after a few hunts together with her. The same has occured with their encounter with [[Pantheon/GamingNarratives Artyom]].
*** Naturally, as people from post-apocalyptic world, they don't look forward to seeing worlds destroyed again, and as such are in opposition to the Pantheon/GrandUnitedAllianceOfDestruction.
** Have official partnerships with the Houses of Pantheon/{{Food}} and Pantheon/{{Craft}}, to where they sell off their findings in exchange for cash that they in turn use to buy weapons, armor, medicine, {{Escape Rope}}-type items (which are '''''very''''' important for them, and '''never''' go out without them on hand. Preferably several, like a minimum of 3.), and other items useful for exploration.
*** They also have partnerships with some deities in the House of Pantheon/{{Commerce}} in order to get more Ental (or whatever their currency they're using nowadays) for their findings.
** Given [[RedShirt how much city guards manage to do in Labyrinth exploration]], the guilds don't put much faith into them, though the Arcania guild tries to encourage them whenever they can. That said, [[FridgeBrilliance given how much funding is needed to sustain them, and how great numbers mean nothing in confined spaces like dungeons, it makes some amount of sense]].
** As explorers dedicated to mapping out the world (well, only the Armoroad and Tharsis guilds have needed to explore more than the labyrinths), the very notion of ''deliberately leaving something uncharted'' is unprecedented, and so they rightly oppose the Five Elders of the World Government. The Armoroad guild have it most personal given [[spoiler:what Olympia did at the 2nd Stratum for presumably decades]], and the Etrian guild moreso given [[spoiler:the Radha Chieftain Visil's actions mirror theirs, though his motivations were different; keep the mystery of the Labyrinth to keep Etria's source of income (explorers) flowing in]].
** Have occasionally encountered the Kecleon Brothers during their outings, and tend to sell all their findings to them (if possible) as well as buy curatives in order to be able to continue hunting for more loot before heading back. And after one of their parties got blacklisted due to shoplifting just to see how many Kecleon they could take out before being overwhelmed, the guilds had to do ''a fair bit'' of negotiations to ensure this doesn't happen again.

* Applies to ''more than one but not all'' of the guilds or some of its classes:
** Every guild after Etria's distrust squirrels due to the ones in the labyrinths making off with their [[EscapeRope Ariadne Threads]].
** The Etria and Lagaard guilds possess [[https://etrian.fandom.com/wiki/Grimoire_Stone Grimoire Stones]] that grant them skills used by other classes or even monsters. That said, the process of making these stones seems to only work in the presence of an Yggdrasil Labyrinth, so no more can be made in the Pantheon.
** Their Gunners in particular eventually got sold on the more powerful firearms provided by [[Pantheon/{{Borderlands}} Marcus Kincaid's]] vending machines, and dealings with [[Pantheon/BusinessesAndCorporations Drebin 893]]. And with the skills they already possess, this has made them that much more effective, even though they stick to single-shot weapons like handguns and rifles.
** The Armoroad and Etria guilds in particular are often ready to hunt [[Pantheon/GiantsAndSmallfolk them!]] thanks to their own experiences with giant ants. And the ants the former knew were living in a lava location, too.
** At least one Beast in the Lagaard guild has been seen wearing a bikini that halves fire, electric, and ice attacks on it. When asked why the Beasts are wearing them, the guild comments that it not only naturally provides little protection for anyone else, it's likely too revealing even for Dark Hunters. However, should certain FOE battles call for it, ''as many of the entire participating party as is absolutely necessary'' will have these Bikini Armors on.
*** The Armoroad guilds also have sets of these too, but they only block 20% of elemental damage, and in exchange boosts one's action speed. This makes it ideal for support classes (such as Monks) or explorer-party Farmers.
%% ** The Armoroad and Tharsis guilds are familiar with the forging of weapons.

* Exclusive to Etria's guild:
** Due to their traumatic first impressions of the Ragelopes, the Etria Guild had their weapons ready the second [[Pantheon/{{Ungulates}} Xerneas]] ended up in their sights, leading to a brief misunderstanding despite not exactly charging at the great deer.

* Exclusive to Lagaard's guild:
** The Lagaard guild has experience with harvesting helping with city development, restaurant advertisement (perhaps they choose a sponsor at the House of Food?), and seeing a hot spring at the 12th floor of the labyrinth they traversed.
** Having had to contend with a thief who desired a pair of magic flutes that could calm or drive berserk monsters, (whether or not they possessed one of those flutes themselves), they're wary of those with such implements, such as [[Pantheon/MusicalCompositions Ember McLain]] and the [[Pantheon/MindControl Pied Piper]].
** [[https://lparchive.org/Etrian-Odyssey-2-Untold-The-Fafnir-Knight/Update%20132/ Once had a run-in with the Hounds of Tindalos]], but the Hounds here don't seem to have a desire to hunt them for some reason. But given how threatening they are, the guild is on constant watch and has warned the others, too.
** Due to the last time they've participated in a "Battle Program", virtual simulation battles are a sore spot for them, if not given the option of proper rest time. There was probably one, but they obviously didn't know how to work that out.
** Knowing where the floor bosses came from in Lagaard's Yggdrasil Labyrinth, they oppose any form of immortality that sacrifices one's humanity or morality, [[spoiler:which the Overlord of the Ark was responsible for]]. As such, they oppose the likes of , and Bondrewd (much more than any of the other guilds).

* Exclusive to Armoroad's guild:
** While all of the guilds are willing to accept aid from others or provide aid ''to'' others, the Armoroad guild is most accustomed to assembling a party that can support the hired aid thanks to their time doing Sea Quests.
** The Armoroad guild once remembered seeing an old man wearing a white robe and with lifeless, yellow, muddy eyes standing in the middle of a maelstrom they got caught in. Folks theorize it might've been [[Pantheon/BladedWeapons Poseidon]].
** Ever since having once plundered an elephant graveyard, every pachyderm always feels wrong in the presence of anyone in this guild, though [[Pantheon/{{Ungulates}} Ganesha]] is the least bothered by this, not being the type to hold a big grudge over that.
** Have the biggest beef against Cthulhu and his kin given what the Abyssal God was like. [[https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3720891&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=93#post478053461 While there were ways to cheese it]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-UT9gWkOKk defeating it "fair and square" was definitely possible]].

* Exclusive to Tharsis's guild:
** As owners of a skyship, the Tharsis guild corresponds with the Cids for upgrades and repairs for their craft.
** Among their inventory is a dagger called Epetam, which is actually a vessel for a giant lightning-controlling bird called the Iwaoropenelep. It will try to fly around in search of blood to shed if grasped by anyone who isn't from the Tharsis guild, so it's better off in their hands.
** Very strongly oppose genocide, since [[spoiler:that's what the Empire close to the Yggdrasil Tree at Tharsis desired to do with the Vessels and Sentinels (as well as the Medium) to return prosperity to their land.]] This has led to a few contentions with the [[spoiler:Etria guild, which ''partook'' in such an atrocity on behalf of Visil, who actually hoped the forest folk would exterminate the guild]].
** If there is [[ThatOneSidequest one quest this guild would rather not take (again)]], it would be extensive hunting sprees, especially if the targets need to be done in a certain order before it's considered done. That "Investigational Support" quest at the Echoing Library is more than enough.

* Exclusive to Arcania's guild:
** Having faced the Star Devourer, this guild is the most prepared for taking on (provided they're weakened enough) planet- or star-consuming entities, and while they're probably not up to taking them on at full power, they're willing to fight the likes of Unicron and Galactus.

* Exclusive to Maginia's guild:
** In terms of the kinds of folk their guild has gathered, besides Heroes, they've only got Protectors, Medics, Ronin, Survivalists, and Highlanders from Etria, Gunners and War Magi from High Lagaard, Sovereigns, Ninjas, Zodiacs, Farmers, and Shoguns from Armoroad, Landsknechts, Nightseekers, Arcanists, and Imperials from Tharsis, and Pugilists and Harbingers [[spoiler:despite no official representatives from Arcania, unless they're from the Arcania guild that came to Earth with Arken]].
** While the Maginia guild was forced to go through forest folk soldiers in the Barren Wastelands just like the Etria guild, they are distinctly different in that [[spoiler:Maginia's only went through them in order to rescue Persephone after Blot abducted her and brainwashed those soldiers, compared to Etria's genocide meant to wipe out the guild]].
** Greatly oppose those who believe conflict is for the betterment of mankind, as [[spoiler:Blot desired to release a great enemy to cause a calamity in order for the world to unite against it]]. %% [[green:The Fate characters end up thinking of [[VideoGame/FateExtra Twice H. Pierceman]].
** Due to [[spoiler:the nature of Lemuria's treasure Jormungandr]], the guild is in heavy opposition to those who use sentient superweapons, since they can turn on their masters [[AIIsACrapshoot should anything go wrong with its instructions]].

* To make sure everybody's up to speed, in the first weeks of their ascension, all the guilds congregated to tell their stories.
** For those curious on what kind of world they come from, while it's known to be a post-apocalypse one, [[spoiler:the world before is that of ''Earth'''s. The civilization of before advanced greatly, but technology also cast a dark shadow over its future. Their forecasts and projections increasingly showed their own imminent demise in the form of ruining their own environment. The danger was realized too late, and billions died in the resulting climate change. Mankind faced extinction, but those who refused to give up kept fighting, and by integrating their own technology with the laws of nature, they attempted to restore the lost balance via the Yggdrasil Project. Eventually, its head researcher was able to create a compound to heal the world, but by then everybody he's ever known has died, and the recovery would take thousands of years. So he took Yggdrasil's power into himself… he relinquished his humanity to be forever fused with the great World Tree. He's Visil, the Radha Chieftain of Etria.]]
**
** The Armoroad guild (in their first NG+) discovered that the entity Yggdrasil came to the world by the pitch black starry sea (probably outer space), as did an evil following it that the tree sealed. Its servants, the Deep Ones, desire to defeat Yggdrasil to protect their master and devised a method to control a human through the evil's blood, and that human was someone in Armoroad; Princess Gutrune. Needless to say, from their pre-NG+ experience, realizing what they heard about the Amarantos flower from the Abyssal King means that they had been deceived, since the Amarantos flower (which they didn't know was '''toxic''' to humans) ended up nourishing her.
** In the lands around and between Tharsis and their Yggdrasil tree, long ago, humans [[spoiler:from before the apocalypse]] lived at the foot of Yggdrasil and created other races to take care of it; the Vessels, the Sentinels, and the Hollows. For a time, there was peace, but then a Titan came and "hid" Yggdrasil, taking away its blessings and several lives. According to the Vessels, they stood and fought while humanity fled. According to the Sentinels, they and humanity fought side-by-side. The Hollows turned against everyone and were eventually decimated by the Tharsis guild. [[spoiler:The Empire descended from the Yggdrasil-residing humans. After an accident at Yggdrasil, most of them evacuated north, which looked like fleeing to the Vessels. According to the Sentinels, the Vessels took the Titan's Soul (a.k.a. the Medium) back with them.
*** They had also found mention of an "Yggdrasil Sealing Project", and apparently the entire geography served as seals (which can only be opened from outside) to limit the damage of the tree going berserk. Each of these seals required a tablet arranged by a protector, but the people of before lacked enough men for it. They apparently had to place the rings… somewhere. With the way to Yggdrasil's core sealed, only the "foreman" had approval of any release. The entrance to a facility was connected to the tablets. If the seal was off, one is meant to consult [REDACTED] for approval. They also had a contingency plan in case Yggdrasil went berserk; create the "Savior" (which took the form of an [[https://etrian.fandom.com/wiki/Insatiable_Pupa Insatiable Pupa]]) to stop it, since it won't be affected by the tree's powers, though there were still problems with is, such as control. In their efforts to contain the Pupa, it managed to kill off the old civilization before it was successfully sealed. Much much later, the Tharsis guild eventually came upon the beast, and were able to destroy the Pupa, and the [[https://etrian.fandom.com/wiki/Warped_Savior Warped Savior]] that it transformed into after that.

* Domain(s): Army, Light, Good
* Heralds: Nova (Max's tactical advisor), [[spoiler:Kane (Max's brother), Chaos]], the new Shining Force in ''Gaiden''
* Allies: All heroic ''Pantheon/FireEmblem'' deities, [[Pantheon/WeaponizedTools Team Dai-Gurren]], all who rise against evil empires ([[DefectorFromDecadence even defectors from within]], given Narsha)
* Enemies: All {{Evil Overlord}}s
* The story begins in the kingdom of Guardiana, where a young amnesiac named Max had washed ashore a year ago. He was raised there and when worries regarding the Gate of the Ancients nearby rose, the king sent Max and a small party there to investigate. They found Runefaust soldiers snooping around, and it turns out they were ''also'' attacking Guardiana. Upon returning, and…seeing the invadees off, it was clear that Runefaust has to answer for this. Because they're the only able fighting force remaining, Max's band is chosen to deal with the threat as they under the command of Darksol intend to awaken the monstrous Dark Dragon and use it to TakeOverTheWorld. It would be later on when Lord Otrant of Manarina christened his band with the name the '''Shining Force''', and this name would be used several times throughout their campaign, as well as later conflicts for years afterward.
* Upon defeating Darksol and the Dark Dragon, [[spoiler:the Shining Force were able to seal the latter once more (since it's unable to remain slain), but at the cost of Max having to stay behind due to being bound to the "key" that is the Chaosbreaker. Thankfully, he's able to Egress everybody else out, but Dark Dragon kept him from joining them. Somehow, Max did manage to escape later on, and Adam—WalkingTheEarth after the whole war—eventually reunited with him. But the experience has left him with PTSD, such that he is no longer inclined to return to Guardiana, and would rather everyone else believe he died]].
* While this would mean the end of the Guardiana Shining Force (other Shining Forces are assembled in the future), the story still continues for some of them, such as Lug and Domingo helping the Shining Force led by then-exiled prince of Cypress Nick[[labelnote:*]]and some relatives of the old guard are among its numbers, such as Lug's own son Ruce who co-leads the Force, Ken's ([[{{Fanon}} and possibly Mae's]]) son Apis, Hans' son Shade, and Tao's (and Diane's) younger sister Wendy[[/labelnote]] after Guardiana's later Queen Anri was put to a magical sleep, and Hanzou and Musashi can show up to aid the Cypress Shining Force led by mage Natasha. And another assembled by Max and Adam would operate all the way in Palamecia as they hunt down remnants of Darksol's army as they try to find a way to resurrect him.
* All this is why the (Guardiana) Shining Force was nominated to represent the trope TheSomethingForce. Not only is the name Force cool, it also gives an impression of strength, which they ''do'' have in spades. The fact that the group name has been passed down across the years also helps their case. As well as the fact that more popular Forces already have their members/founders in the Pantheon already under different tropes or are better off with different tropes.
* When the entire Shining Force was ascended to the Pantheon, it was a momentous affair, especially with almost everyone overjoyed to see Max again, given [[spoiler:they thought he died in the Castle of the Ancients]], and that Adam [[spoiler:had been traveling with him once the man from the past and the robot reunited]]. When asked why he didn't let anyone else know, Adam stated that as the potentially last addition to the Force, he had no real obligation to tell anyone else, given that his loyalty is to Max alone. On a lighter note, Musashi wants a duel with Max, having never gotten the chance during his time in the (Guardiana) Shining Force. After the Shining Force settled down in their new residences, a satellite of sorts appeared out of nowhere. As later discovered, it's the source of magic for all Rune denizens, and it does so here too (and probably explains why healing spells can also work on machinery like Guntz's suit, Kokichi's aircraft, and Adam's… everything). Well, it's not actually needed for that purpose given all sorts of magic in the Pantheon still work even without their canonical sources, but it ''does'' serve a use when Max casts Supernova, in which it fires a beam on wherever Max targets it.
* Given the comparisons between their games, it was natural that all ascended ''Pantheon/FireEmblem'' heroes would cross paths with the Shining Force, having been similarly small armadas that go up against the forces of evil who always outnumber them. The Tactician in particular is a bit envious that Max had access to priests who can revive any losses suffered, whereas he/she has to make sure there are no losses in the first place. And that those priests handle class changes whereas the Tactician had to manage a limited number of promotional items. But it would not do to let this fester as a grudge, and they all became allies.
* Other new allies to the Shining Force would include Commander Shepard and Kamina of Team Dai-Gurren for being to recruit so many people, even though it's more from a common enemy, life debts, given orders to join up, and occasional interest in Max specifically rather than Max's own charisma. Of course, there's also new enemies to deal with, given how many {{Evil Overlord}}s exist in the Pantheon. While not nearly as numerous as the Liberation Army led by Tir (though that also counted non-combat personnel), the Shining Force is still formidable even if only 12 at a time due to Max's limits as a commander [[spoiler:even with his time mute from trauma]].

* Due to the nature of this profile, almost everybody's sections will be concealed in labelnotes to mitigate bloat. The only exceptions will be Max (as the leader of the Force in question), Narsha (as the deuteragonist in the remake), Anri (ostensibly as the NumberTwo in the Shining Force), and Adam (while he's the last addition to the Force, he's also the most important in Max's backstory).
* Max had washed up on shore with amnesia a year before the war against Runefaust. But he didn't come alone; a bag holding the Light Saber washed ashore with him. A knight found this bag and sword and had it hidden by orders of Minister Ward. Lowe found Max after that, and they trained in the army though at different job classes.
** Upon defeating Kane at the ruins of Dragonia, inadvertently breaking his mask, it's revealed that [[spoiler:he had been brainwashed, that he and Max are brothers, and that they were descendants of the Ancients, who created all life in Rune. However, along the way Max lost his memory, while Kane was captured and brainwashed by Darksol]]. And to make things worse, upon making their way to the shrine to acquire the Book of Secrets, Darksol somehow beat them to it and both he and Kane disappeared to fight.
** Upon visiting Prompt, and after a misunderstanding that almost sent Max to jail [[spoiler:to put him on reserve to deal with Dark Dragon in case it awakens]], he discovers from King Kusko that they are descended from the ancient people, whom the rest of Rune call gods. And they had [[spoiler:created the Dark Dragon to protect themselves from their other creations (i.e. the rest of Rune's races) that they've feared and who turned against them, and then decided to seal it immediately because they also feared its power, and because it would extinguish ''all'' life and Light in the world, though couldn't kill it and sealed it instead at the cost of their lives. In preparation for its eventual awakening, they chose two warriors who have been trained for this mission to be put in cryostasis; those warriors are Max and Kane, children of two biological engineers who held influential positions in the planning of Dark Dragon's creation, and the brothers had been meant to team up to stop the Dark Dragon.]]
** Max would later see Kane [[spoiler:die after he stopeed Darksol from acquiring power to awaken Dark Dragon (though by then, Darksol already had just enough to enact his plan anyway), but not before jogging all of Max's memories. The grief would render him mute for the rest of the mission, until near the end when the time came to seal Dark Dragon]].
** Max would eventually take up arms once more, when he and Adam discover that one of Darksol's generals Mishaela managed to survive, and (after assembling another Shining Force) they set off to find her in Palamecia, but he would be split up from Adam during the chase after the robot was rendered heavily injured and required time off battle, then [[spoiler:taken over with a MindControl mask, just like Kane in the last campaign. The new Shining Force assembled by Adam eventually rescued him, and he would help in stopping Mishaela from enacting her diabolic plan of resurrecting Darksol. And just like before, the Force was just too late to stop the summoning, but they proved strong enough to defeat the summoned force of evil anyway]].
* Lowe [[note]]is a hobbit who's introduced as Max's best friend, having been the one who found him when he washed up at the shores of Guardiana. And when Max was sent to check out the nearby temple with a little band, Lowe made sure to insert himself as well, and he would be valuable for a time since he serves as a Healer. He's also a BigEater, always thinking of what he wants to eat when he isn't out in the field. Years after the war, he would eventually become the advisor to Guardiana's ruler, and when crisis strikes again and another Shining Force is assembled, he would serve as a mentor figure just like Nova did for Max before.[[/note]]
* Ken [[note]]is an apprentice Royal Guardiana knight appointed to Max's party for his investigation to the Gate of the Ancients, and actually looked up to him even before then. He's the youngest of the Knights at age 17, with the other Guardiana knight in the Force Mae being five years older, who it turn used to hate Max. He harbors a crush on Mae, but she only saw him as a little brother. After the war, he would take up the mantle Varios left when he died trying to protect the king, and would have a son named Apis who suspiciously also bears traits from Mae.[[/note]] [[note]] Ken's father Thomas was a knight at the castle, and passed away when he was young. He and had been second-in-command in the Band of Knights under Lord Varios, though was more of an adviser than a fighter, which led to kids bullying Ken by calling his father a coward. Also back then, there was a band of former knights turned thieves called the Wind Fang Clan that terrorized the country. The Band of Knights was dispatched to deal with the turncoats, but it turned out to not be an easy job. As it was, the Wind Fang Clan had a superweapon up their sleeves; the Laser Eye, which was a monstrous machine, the terrible light from its massive pupil reducing everything to ashes. The Knights knew they couldn't retreat lest the thieves use their weapon to terrorize villages. The plan Thomas devised was for there to be a decoy to draw the eye's attention while everyone else attacked. Despite each knight wishing to take up the role, Thomas volunteered himself for it since he knew the risks better than anyone else. Ultimately, the plan was a success, the Laser Eye was destroyed, and the Wind Fang Clan was decimated, but Thomas was ultimately vaporized by the superweapon before the day was over, the charred remains of his lance being all that remained of him. Shortly after news of that reached Guardiana; Mae, a mere acquaintance back then, showed up at Ken's house, dragged him to the mountains behind it, and coached him with everyday rigorous training as a way of keeping him from wallowing in grief, as Ken would realize after a while. When he realized this, he decided to be the best knight he could.[[/note]]
* Hans [[note]]is an elven archer appointed to Max's party for his investigation to the Gate of the Ancients. He also dabbles in various fortune telling practices, including Color, Cards, Dream, Face, Name, Career, Jewel, Color, Hair, Love, Money, Rust, and Monster. For obvious reasons, he does not like to be put in the front line. He works best fighting alongside fellow Archer Diane, who is able to keep him on task whenever he feels queasy.[[/note]]
* Lug, though sometimes he also answers to "Luke", [[note]]is a dwarven warrior who used to be in the Guardiana Band of Warriors and is actually an experienced veteran. The reason he's the only one left is because… well… it took place back when Gort was still in command, before Lug joined, when it was 108 members strong, when they were known far and wide as the strongest warriors in the Land. But that story can he found in Gort's section of this profile. Long story short, after a disastrous mission that ended with most of the company seemingly dead, Gort and nine others were the only ones who made it back, and he took responsibility and resigned from his post. The Band of Knights harassed the rest into following suit. As for where Lug enters the picture, he had found a MessageInABottle when he was a kid, telling of other survivors in the Band of Warriors on an island in the south, and that they shall one day return. Lug showed this letter to Gort and the other remnants, but they all dismissed it as a joke. That's when Lug decided that he once he grew up, he would go to the castle and have his own Band of Warriors founded. And with the king's permission, he got it, and he had been going it alone since then (before joining the Shining Force) in hopes that the survivors in the south would return.[[/note]]
** [[green:(sometimes answers to the name Luke)]]

* Tao [[note]]is an elven Mage who appointed to Max's party for his investigation to the Gate of the Ancients. She used to be a castle maid at Pipory Village west of Guardiana, a small place in the forest inhabited by elves. She and her parents lived there in palace until a Cerberus showed up prowling in the mountains behind the village, snatching up people regardless of age from time to time. The elders decided it needed to be slain, but there were only two who were versed in magic at the time who could perform the deed: Tao's parents. Naturally, after bidding farewell to their daughter, they set off. Needless to say, they appear to have died killing the beast, thus Tao was transferred to her uncle and aunt, but then a rumor stating it died on its own and Tao's parents just cowardly fled was spread by said uncle and aunt. Once it festered in the minds of the populace and she could feel the scorn from them, Tao decided to leave for the mountains and wandered for days. She passed out, but was rescued by Anri, who had been in the mountains practising her magic. After being treated of her fever as a result of her flight from home, Tao was taken in. Tao enjoyed her new home, but couldn't tell Anri of her origins due to the trauma of losing her parents leading her to hate magic. But Anri said to her, "The power of magic is bestowed from on high. It must not be shut away by spiritual pain." And that's when she started practising again even after Anri left for Manarina. For if her magic could be of even a tiny bit of use to someone, Tao would be truly happy.[[/note]]
* The fledgling Force (not yet named such) met the half-giant Gong [[note]]at a mountain hut east of the old ruins where their first battle against the forces of Runefaust took place. He is a traveling monk in search of truth. A night star led him to Max, and he saw it as a sign of fate that he would participate. He inserted himself among the ranks right after. What isn't know about him though is that Gong once joined his fellow giants in looting and pillaging helpless villages, but along the way he realized what he was doing was wrong, so he retired to the woods and became a monk to atone for his sins.[[/note]]
%% ** His backpack has everything he needs for his travels, such as a bedroll made with a Paopig skin lining that's cool in summer and warm in winter, little pills containing Medical Herb extract, thin rope made with the toughest braided Paopig hair for climbing a mountain or binding his things, extra underclothes, a tin cup for drinking water or making soup or boiling up Medicinal Herbs, a pungent panacea whose stench can persist for up to ten days (Gong's used to it by now), a white towel, a little notebook with scenery sketches and poetry, a map of Rune, and a hand mirror for keeping tidy and signaling people from afar. When asked why he doesn't use an axe like he did before joining, Gong explains that as a half-giant, his hands are too big to use axes in combat as effectively as the dwarves in the Force (Lug and Gort) do. Thus, he would only use them for tasks where they are specifically required (i.e. splitting wood).
* Gort [[note]]is a dwarven retired Warrior who was born in Guardiana. Though made fun of by most of the populace, he was content with hanging around at the pub before Runefaust attacked. He drove out the soldiers attacking the pub, and when Max visits him later (after his trip to the ruins), he asks to join the Force. Max was hesitant, but Lug tells him about Gort's veteran status, and he decides to let him in after that.[[/note]] [[note]] Gort also used to be in the Band of Warriors just like Lug a long time ago. In fact, he was its leader, it was composed of 108 members, and they had been known far and wide as the strongest warriors in the Land. But one day, an order came from the king to root out some pirates who were attacking merchant ships in the waters off Rondo everyday, putting both it and Guardiana at risk due to not getting supplies. They had set out in a boat with the then-young Gort as their captain. The Band eventually found the pirates' ship, and fought bravely despite their disadvantage. But even as they won, a Giant Kraken emerged, and totaled both vessels. Out of the 108 warriors, only Gort and nine others made it back to port. Gort promptly took responsibility and resigned from his post, and the Band of Knights harassed the rest into following suit. [[/note]]
%% ** One of his missions (definitely before the one Lug recalls) involved dealing with an enormous terrifying monster that threatened all of Rune, a Terra Whale, which was more like a titanic earthworm whose tail disappeared over the horizon. Guardiana held a council of war involving Nova, Varios, and Gort himself, knowing they have to intercept the beast with haste. Gort went ahead to Bustoke and beheld the now-river-sized beast himself.
%% ** Nova's plan to deal with the Terra Whale involved digging a huge hole to lead it back to digging beneath the earth. But the Terra Whale ended up too big for the trap by the time it reached it. Another plan involved trying to whisk it away with a local whirlwind, but the giant worm not only ''ate the whirlwind'', but grew further in size too. Worse, it turned out to be a larval stage for a mammoth blue butterfly, and that whirlwind was just enough for it to metamorphose. Thankfully for all of Rune, which the creature had covered the entire east continent in its shadow, it flew up, up, and away to the stars, and was never seen again.

* Mae [[note]]is an apprentice knight of Guardiana just like Ken. Her father was also a knight at the castle, Lord Varios, who is also Max's mentor, which caused her to have a chilly reception with him at first. She lost him when the Runefaust knight Kane attacked Guardiana, plowing through all opposition before proceeding to the castle throne to slay the king, which he barely succeeded in. She tried to duel Kane in vengeance, but was too weak and would've died too were it not for Max parrying his blow. After Kane escaped, his intel mission completed, the king in his dying moments appointed Mae into the burgeoning Shining Force. This also ceased Mae's cold behavior towards Max.[[/note]] [[note]] Mae's mother Arisa died when she was young. She was Guardiana's first female knight, but wasn't always such. She had come to Guardiana from a country in the west, grievously injured before she was helped by Varios. But the trauma left her mute for days, even as her physical wounds were mended. One morning, Arisa snuck out of the castle and ran away, only for Varios to follow her, having fallen in love. Arisa had gone into the forest in search of a vicious thief who had killed her family. But when Varios found her crying over his body—who he at first mistook for a lost lover—the killer was already dead. As it was, the thief and Arisa had been fighting viciously, and her injuries led to her being found by Varios later on. The thief's injuries on the other hand were belatedly lethal, leaving Arisa without having properly avenged her family, hence why she was crying. That was when the two officially became a couple, Arisa joined the Band of Knights, and birthed Mae, but got sick and died soon after. All this is what aspired Mae to become an even better knight than her mother to help her father, but with Lord Varios also dead, she aspires to become better than him too, and to make Guardiana's Band of Knights the best there is in Rune, an elite Band of Knights that will fight for justice and friendship.[[/note]]
* Khris [[note]]was first seen around Alterone Castle, apologizing for what was about to happen to Max (namely the King being put to random by Runefaust to lock him away). Thankfully, she opened the door to Max's cell so he and the Shining Force could save Alterone from being sacked after Kane clarified the king's deal was ''only'' for the king. After that, she decided to join the Force more permanently.[[/note]] [[note]] Khris was born in a small village called Mimoor, not far from Alterone, and inhabited by Cantaul like herself. Khris herself doesn't know her parents, having been raised by the local church priest, who basically operated an entire orphanage. It was a poor life, but she had fond memories, barring one tragedy later. She even wrote her own books, though she admits she wasn't very good at it. However, one summer, terrible disease came to Mimoor and spread throughout the village. Casualties were staggering, most of them children, and the cure was expensive. All Khris could do was pray for days, and then one morning during this, she was blessed with the power of healing. She used this power to cure everyone in the village, but she resented the fact that it came too late, when half of the children of the church had already died. The priest later told Khris to leave the church, and use her gift to help as many people as she can. And so she did, as painful as it was to part ways with everyone. At first, she sought work in Alterone, got a job as a castle maid, and earned a lot of money to send back to he church, which was always low on it. But the priest soon sent a letter that told her that they can't use this money, and look for actual work where she can help other people, not just Mimoor. That was when she met Max and saw his burgeoning army fight Runefaust, and finally understood what the priest meant. It took a lot of courage to help Max out of prison, especially when she knew what her King was blackmailed to do, and only apologized cryptically prior to that moment. She intends to return home after the war, and write and read books of the Shining Force's exploits.[[/note]]
* Anri is the princess of Guardiana, sent off to Manarina's Arcane College to study magic after her potential in it was realized. Eventually, she received word from Max about her father's demise in the hands of Kane. She didn't believe it at first since Max wasn't from Guardiana (which was true, since he was adopted by them one year ago), but Tao corroborated his claim. After some time alone, Anri immediately joined the Shining Force in order to stop Runefaust.
** As a kid, Anri liked drawing pictures, even if she didn't do very well at it. She started with scenery before getting in trouble for sneaking out of the castle. Then she started to draw all sorts of people within the castle before she became too much of a bother for them that they run from her when they see her coming. After that, she would just paint cats. She also used to admire knights so much that she wanted to become one, only stopping when it was clear she lacked the physical aptitude for it.
** Her favorite color is white. She has no real favorite food, being the sort who'll receive any food gratefully, though does have a disinclination for sweets if they're too sugary. She likes reading books about magic. If it weren't for her duty to be Queen of Guardiana in light of the King's death, she would've probably been a mage, or more likely an (unsuccessful) artist.
** After the war, Anri became Guardiana's queen
* Arthur [[note]]is first met by Max in Manarina as a retired soldier working as a laundryman. After Max has proven himself to Otrant his capability to fight Runefaust, upon being talked to again, Arthur decided to join the newly-named Shining Force for one last shot at glory. Or rather, one last chance to prove himself worthy, for few know that he hails from a different continent, and was a prodigy in his youth. This led to him becoming a knight captain before acquiring any actual combat experience. And because he didn't get any leadership experience, his overconfidence led to deaths of many of his subordinates, and he left his country in shame as a result, ending up in Manarina.Outside battle, he has all sorts of useless trivia about Rune that he would regale. In battle, he's unique among all Knights in the Force in that he has some talent for magic thanks to his time in Manarina, learning the basic elemental spells. It's not much later on, but in his first forays it's useful to have.[[/note]]

* The two Birdmen Amon and Balbaroy [[note]]were first seen at Shade Abbey, the former waiting outside it and asking for Max's help once he came. Unfortunately, Darksol's forces have already reached it, killed its occupants, and turned them into ghouls to set a trap for Max when he inevitability went there for answers regarding the Legacy of the Gods. The trap was sprung once he reached Balbaroy, but the Shining Force managed to escape it and wipe out the undead, freeing Balbaroy in the process. As it turns out, Runefaust had invaded the Birdmen due to the threat they posed due to their air superiority, were almost wiped out, and forced to flee their own country. The couple had been flying around in search of their brethren, and had been taking a break at the Abbey when Darksol's forces attacked it. The Abbey fell, Balbaroy was TakenForGranite, and Amon had to flee until Max resolved the situation. In gratitude, the couple join the Shining Force.[[/note]] [[note]] Although they're Birdmen, they mostly live on the ground, only flying during hunts or for travel. In other words… flying is nothing more than a skill they use. But if he's in the mood for a story, [[https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/918893-shining-force-resurrection-of-the-dark-dragon/49078724?page=1 Balbaroy will tell about the legend of Vern, the Soaring One. On the other hand, Amon may share some Birdmen "spells" she and her people know]], though whether they work for other races or even folk from outside Rune is up in the air.[[/note]]

* Diane [[note]]is an even archer who lives in Bustoke, a land surrounded by petty, squabbling nations, never knowing peace. And then things got worse when Runefaust attacked, abducted all their men, and made them work the quarry to dig up an ancient weapon called the Laser Eye. When the Shining Force arrived, Diane's relatives ask them for help in liberating the town and their men, and Diane herself would join them even after the liberation.[[/note]] [[note]] As a resident of Bustoke, Diane [[https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/918893-shining-force-resurrection-of-the-dark-dragon/49078724?page=2 has a lot of stories about all sorts of Beastmen in Rune]]. And the nature of the Pantheon means she might actually see some denizens that remind her of those races.[[/note]]
%% *** (MouseWorld deities reminiscent of the Mu race)
%% *** (Sonic and other Mobian Hedgehogs reminiscent of the Spina race, even though they're not porcupines, but they do sometimes roll towards foes)

* Zylo [[note]] was the forest king who founded Bustoke under his strong leadership, and a powerful [[https://shining.fandom.com/wiki/Wolfling Wolfling]] (which are distinct from Beastmen). Some time ago, a Runefaust general named Balbazak came to Bustoke and put drugs in the water. It didn't affect most people, but it drove Zylo nuts, needing to be locked away. Thanks to Max finding a Moonstone in the quarry (after routing the Runefaust forces in there), then exchanging it for some Lunar Dew to bring to him, Zylo was brought back to his senses. As it turns out, some time before his insanity, Zylo was informed of the Shining Force by Lord Otrant of Manarina and told to help however he can. Due to having needed to be saved by Max, he decided to repay this debt by joining the Force.[[/note]] [[note]] At least according to Arthur, his full name is Zylo Duun Munster, which in the dialect of the Bustoke region reads as "Zylo, King of the Mountains". Other than that, his favorite color being black, usually having no interest in anything other than fighting, and [[spoiler:[[SleepsWithBothEyesOpen sleeping with his eyes open]] sometimes that he appears dead when he does so]], nobody's getting much out of him. He's not much of a conversation person.[[/note]]

* Pelle [[note]]was a centaur mercenary knight first seen arguing with a Silver Knight at Pao Pass over using the Laser Eye against the Shining Force after decrying it as a dishonorable act. He was then kicked off a cliff, but managed to hang on to a nearby branch and pull himself up after Max's army destroyed the contingency guarding the Laser Eye. He would discard his Runefaust colors and become part of the Shining Force. As a hired knight, he's traveled all over Rune, and met all sorts of unique warriors, and all of them stronger than Max, though by the end of the war against Runefaust, he would probably have matched them. He's actually been at this since he was young, having taken to the road as a kid. And after Dark Dragon, he felt he belonged here.[[/note]]
%% ** In Rune, pianos are ancient instruments, implying that they aren't a thing in his time. Seeing them in the Pantheon may get him to regale a tale he knew about "Missaki, the Wild Pianist", who's able to entrance people with such an instrument…before beating foes over the head with it thanks to his immense strength.

* Jogurt [[note]]is a peculiar creature found while the Shining Force was at Pao. It was lounging somewhere behind the church (SavePoint) and decided out of the blue to join up. Beware though, for it is an utter joke in the battlefield. Worse, in the event that it actually fells an opponent, it produces a ring that temporarily turns its wearer into another instance of itself.[[/note]]

* Kokichi [[note]]is a retired knight and inventor that the Shining Force meet in Bustoke. He operates a flying machine of his own invention and uses a spear in combat. If Max visits him after rescuing Bustoke's men at the quarry, by the time the Shining Force reaches the Pao prairie and see off the caravan, he'll arrive with his finished machine, and promptly join the "Shining Horse". And as a flying unit, he's a valuable asset to the Force.[[/note]] [[note]] As for when he got this obsession with flight, it was back when a traveling salesman and an old friend of Kokichi's stopped at Bustoke when Kokichi was just a lad. It was when he folded a paper plane that hooked him to it, and got him inventing all sorts of contraptions that would grant him his dream. Various failed prototypes included a "paper plane" of animal skins, building a bamboo frame and essentially building the first glider in Rune (though he wasn't satisfied), arm wings, starving himself to make himself lighter, strapping fireworks all over himself, and suspending himself under 100 Bustoke crows (they fought instead of flying). Kokichi even actually have up on his dream for a while until Dr. Crock from Rindo came with schematics for his steam engine. This relit his spark as he learned how to make one of his own, then start trying to make it smaller to it won't weigh down his future flying machine too much. And by the time he's made his machine, that's when Max showed up, and the rest is history. He still plans on continuing his research, and one day fly all the way to outer space, even though he's not certain if he'll achieve it within his lifetime. [[green:(space travel a thing in the Pantheon)]][[/note]]

* Vankar [[note]] the mercenary centaur knight is first seen after the Shining Force see off the Pao caravan (and after recruiting Kokichi if Max met the inventor after freeing Bustoke's men). He serves as a hired bouncer for Queen Koron's Pao caravan. Under her orders, he joins the Shining Force, and that used to be the only reason. But as the fights went on, he realized there was more to this war than money, and felt good fighting for a bigger cause. Vankar didn't actually want to be a knight at first, but did so out of obligation to his old man. He considers war a waste of time, and thinks love and peace is what really matters. He also tends to drown himself in Paopig milk (but is looking toward other sources since Paopigs aren't prevalent in the Pantheon), though this could be a case of FrothyMugsOfWater.[[/note]]

* Narsha is the Princess of Runefaust and daughter of King Ramladu who sensed something wrong with her father. After escaping an assassination attempt thanks to Mawlock, and him unsealing Zuika, she flees her home, and they eventually join up with the Shining Force at Pao. At first, given she's from the nation plaguing Rune with war and its king's daughter, Narsha was worried that the Shining Force might despise her, but they were surprisingly welcoming. Among those in the Force, she admires Anri and Mae the most, the former as a kind and elegant princess, and the latter for getting Lowe off of her after he tried bugging her with a lot of sweets, which she does profess to not liking that much.
** Thankfully for Narsha, Runefaust's populace were in support of her return. Unfortunately for her, there was no way to bring her father back, though she's accepted it by now, having seen him and Runefaust change under Darksol's influence long before she had to leave. And if she delivers the final blow to king Ramladu, before passing away, he comes to his senses enough to express how proud he is of her, and that it was his fault for giving in to the temptation.

* Little is known of the insectoid assassin Zuika [[note]]other than he was sealed in Runefaust for his dangerous power and his dedication to the killing arts. But when Narsha had to flee Darksol's forces when he decided to have her silenced, he awoke in response to her warm heart (or maybe Mawlock had a hand in this) and joined her as her bodyguard. And this duty remains especially even after ascension to the Pantheon. There's nothing at all else about him that's of interest, apart from being an insectoid GlassCannon FragileSpeedster in battle.[[/note]]

* Mawlock [[note]]is a mysterious entity {whose powers lie in special Cards depicting members of the Shining Force, and some of their adversaries. He first shows up in front of Max after transporting him somewhere outside of time, telling him to collect Cards before departing to help Narsha later on. However, in a NewGamePlus, he can "split" his existence into two places at once and join Max from the outset while also helping Narsha. Utilizing the cards Max has collected, he can use them to either utilizing the card's power (Effect), empower himself (Copy), allow the card of the recipient to act twice in a turn (Move), or create a copy of the recipient (Imitate).[[/note]]
** Mawlock's origins are a complete mystery, as is his power over the Cards. [[note]]However, this story may have some clues. Long ago, there was a scientist who studied images and light, using them to record pictures of people and scenery, all for the sake of his daughter, who had a chronic, incurable disease that would claim her within six months. If he can't save her life, then perhaps he could at least keep an eternal memory of her beauty. And so he began to research ways to record people's images, meeting famous mages and deepened his knowledge of light and spirit magic. He made no progress until one day an old man came along and game him some advice that helped him finally complete his research. The details and identity are unknown, but rumors say the latter was the devil himself. Three days before his daughter died, the scientist produced his Card, and held it up. With its power, he not only recorded images of people and scenery before the card, he also captured the strange powers that exist in the essence of people's souls. As such, the man's Card of his daughter gave the effect that she was alive inside the Card. Before anyone asks, the soul has not been stripped during the process, given all the Cards of the Shining Force, and none of them exhibiting any adverse effects. Eventually, the scientist grew old and passed away, but it turns out that he had made 100 more Blank Cards in addition to the one holding his daughter. These Cards eventually fell into the hands of many people, but nobody understood the the power hidden inside them. And now that so much time has passed, their location has been lost to time. Mawlock found one of these cards himself and eventually came to understand their power, but he won't tell anyone how he did that.[[/note]] [[note]] With all of that in mind, with the possibility that Mawlock wasn't telling the entire truth, what was his role in this tale of a scientist and his dying daughter? Was he really just a "passerby" who happened to unlock the secrets of the Cards for his own use? Was he the "devil" who gifted the scientist the needed knowledge to create the Cards? Or was the scientist Mawlock himself? He's certainly not clearing that up.[[/note]]

* Guntz [[note]]is an Armadillo first seen at Rindo testing out a steam-powered suit of armor on behalf of the local inventor Dr. Crock, though despite being a huge guy he struggled to operate the suit. He's seen again in Pao after it moves, having scared the Paopigs, and the kinks on the suit have apparently been worked out. He reveals he's under orders to help out the Shining Force and promptly does so. While not the most mobile, certain accessories can alleviate that.[[/note]] [[note]] Guntz's "steam suit" is called Steam-Dynamic Heavy Armour, and its built-in steam engine allows the wearer to move it with relative ease now that the kinks were worked out. Its plating is out of an alloy called Asentium 66, the ore of whejce it came from uncovered by Dr. Crock in excavations of ancient ruins. While the suit's strength does bolster its wearer's by a lot (and Guntz himself is pretty darn strong to even lumber about in it '''before''' it was perfected), it also provides enough fine control for him to safely pick up an egg without breaking it. The suit also comes with a catalyst stone filled with [[PlayingWithFire Blaze]] magic as an efficient energy converter, though has a risk for meltdown. Of course, that's just the Mk. 1 version for when Guntz is a Steam Knight. Upon promotion to a Steam Baron, he has a Mk. 2 version with increased performance and increased difficulty of use. On top of all the features in the Mk. 1, the Mk. 2 has a magic superconductor motor that uses catalyst stones holding Freeze magic and Bolt magic for less electrical resistance and better energy output respectively, and that motor powers a Roller Dash feature that is best suited for battle and not for long periods.[[/note]]

* Domingo [[note]]is a Magical creature acquired as an egg from a mage at Manarina. After being hatched at an incubator at the Pao caravan, it immediately joins the Shining Force. Despite its cute looks and its crappy stats, it's a powerhouse once raised correctly, is among the few flyers in the Force (though can't fly over mountains like them), and can reliably tank attacks. Apparently its kind were used in the past as guardians, but as eggs became for difficult to hatch, the market fell off.[[/note]] [[note]] There's an interesting quirk about his character, though. In the Sega Genesis versions, Domingo speaks like a highbrow social elite know-it-all who disdains his companions but stays with Max out of loyalty to the one who hatched him. In the GBA remake, he only speaks his name almost like a Franchise/{{Pokemon}}, and changes colors to show his various moods. In the Pantheon, he tends to switch between these from time to time, much to his own frustration, but thankfully never in the middle of a conversation. [[/note]]

* Earnest [[note]] is a centaur Knight who lost his entire family to Balbazak. In fact, he was a member of the royal family of "Thermal," a city on Runefaust's border, and when Runefaust decided to extend its sphere of influence, Balbazak led the attack on the small kingdom. His dream is to take soldiers with him to Uranbatol and have his revenge. Max first met him in the Pao caravan, though he didn't join yet. He's later found deep inside the Fortress of Balbazak, having gotten past the Cerberus but ending up stuck somewhere in the middle, having ran out of stamina midway, and having lost most of his men in the siege. He shortly joins the Shining Force after that, and eventually bears witness to Balbazak's end, even though it's [[YouHaveFailedMe in the hands of Darksol]] rather than his own. But because he realized VengeanceFeelsEmpty, he dedicated himself to fight Dark Dragon on behalf of not the past and dead as before, but the future and living.[[/note]]

* Hanzou [[note]]is a Shinobi who shows up out of nowhere after Max investigates a certain location. In the Sega Genesis timeline, it's a shuriken in the bushes at Runefaust. In the remake, Hanzou shows up after Max follows a series of strange instructions all over Waral. By the end of that, Hanzou shows up, mistaking Max to be Musashi, who seems to be whom the strange instructions were for. Nevertheless, Hanzou seems to be familiar with Max's exploits, and promptly pledges his blade to the Shining Force. [[spoiler:And he would violate his creed to not shed tears at the loss of comrades, doing so for Max after defeating Dark Dragon]].[[/note]] [[note]] Hanzou is man of few words, and ascribes to a few Ninja Laws from his home village, even though he's a rogue from it. Don't expect him to regale any stories of himself, his village, or his deal with Musashi. According to Hanzou, a ninja (of his world) is a man of few words, and is content to show his strength in battle. In terms of combat, besides swift deadly strikes with his sword, he also has a few "jutsus" for boosting allies, putting enemies to sleep (literally or permanently), or even equivalents to Blaze or Bolt spells. He even keeps gunpowder all over his suit probably for this purpose, has a hidden lens not only for the same reasons as Gong, but for burning holes, and "Water Spiders" for treading across water (though has no opportunities to do so in-game).[[/note]]

* Lyle [[note]]is a centaur Assault Knight first seen at Dragonia. He had been trying to meet up with the Shining Force under orders of Dr. Crock, whom he's an apprentice to, and is friends with co-apprentice Guntz. It's his complete lack of sense of direction that landed him here instead of Pao as was planned, and he regrets that after the war, wanting to join sooner. But as soon as Max found him, he joins up. In terms of weaponry, he uses a bazooka/"mechanical crossbow" invented by Crock, and can be loaded with arrows, though his gear means he can't gallop as far as the other centaurs in the Force, and only has as much movement as fellow arrow-shooters Hans and Diane.[[/note]]

* A mysterious wandering ronin, Musashi [[note]]shows up (so to speak) after Max follows a series of strange instructions all over Rudo. By the end of that, he makes his presence known, but doesn't show himself to Max. He proclaims himself to be a wandering swordsman, who came to Dragonia to try and achieve a state of true nothingness, thus why Max can't see him. And now that Musashi's done that, he then decides to travel with the Shining Force to fulfill his desires to cross swords with a mighty opponent. Like Hanzou, Musashi is not one to tell tales, but he can lecture of the way of the sword as he knows it.[[/note]]

* Bleu [[note]]is found in Dragonia, but it had been razed to the ground by the time the Shining Force reached the place. His grandparents (and everyone else in the village) had been killed by Kane and his army, and he—the last dragon—only managed to survive by hiding in a supply hut. When Karin from Rudo came to visit, she called him out for his cowardice before leaving… only to be held hostage by a Rune Knight, who demanded Bleu to open a secret door deep in the village. The little dragon responded by ''torching him to ash'', and Karin (after thanking him for finding his courage) then recommends he should join the Shining Force. Max did have a few misgivings since it means leaving Karin's village without him, but she assures they'll be fine, and that Bleu will need the experience.[[/note]]

* Alef and Torasu [[note]]are sages (the former a Mage and the latter a Healer) in service of Prompt, who were first mentioned being at the Tower of the Ancients attempting to stop Darksol from releasing Dark Dragon while Prompt itself would keep Max on reserve in case they fail so that he and the Shining Force can slay the Dark Dragon, though odds of their survival are bleak. But a tired plea from [[spoiler:Max's brother Kane, whom they had rescued earlier]] moved the king to ask the Shining Force to rescue Alef and Torasu. After going through more of Darksol's forces, they find the pair alive, who have failed to stop Darksol from reaching the top of the tower. After a moment's rest, they joined the Shining Force.[[/note]]
** Alef [[note]]is of the Foxling race, who ''aren't'' a class of Beastmen like those Diane knows of. Despite her talent in magic, it's actually very rare among her kind to inherit this gift, so her non-magic parents sent her to Marinara so she could develop her talents. As a child without a care at the time, she would soon learn that she was basically a little fish in a big pond when it comes to magical talent, and it put her out to the point that she grew bored and didn't learn magic. But that changed thanks to Otrant patiently explained to her the essence of a mage. He had told her, "The power of a mage is a strange power that is concealed in nature… The sky, the earth, the sea… A power that exists for the people that live there. People with magical talents must harness this power for the benefit of these people. If you want to become a mage, you must start by loving people and nature…" Since then, she turned over a new leaf and started learning it right. Ten years into her studies, Otrant suggested she study further in Prompt for more advanced magic. That's where she met Torasu, and he told her about the prophecy regarding the Dark Dragon. That's when she decided that she was gifted with magic specifically to aid in stopping Dark Dragon, and so she stayed in Prompt and continued her training until the time came to fight Darksol, and the rest is history.[[/note]]
** Torasu [[note]] on the other hand doesn't have much of himself to tell, but he can tell of Prompt's history. That said, he does bear a secret: his power was never much to speak of. He was merely older, more learned, and never actually went out in the thick of battle until the order from Prompt's king. In fact, he had been at first petrified when he first found himself part of the Shining Force.[[/note]]

* When Dark Dragon was first sealed away, [[spoiler:100 ancient Adam-type robots were created to help the heroes of Light should Dark Dragon ever awaken. However, when Darksol attacked right after Max and Kane were awakened, all of these robots were scrapped, with only one Adam-type as the SoleSurvivor, Kane holding off Darksol so that Max could escape (and getting brainwashed in the process), and fellow robot Chaos being reprogrammed to turn against Max. The flight from Darksol also meant that Max's memories couldn't be fully restored before he was tossed into sea, where he would eventually land in Guardiana. Adam himself would successfully hide until Darksol left to continue his plans of conquest]]. He also knew Max from before his cryostasis, and upon reuniting with him at Metapha (where he was programmed to stay and protect despite his desires to aid Max sooner), regaled him of his past and the original intended plan on carrying this out, then immediately joined the Shining Force.
** During the hunt for Mishaela after the whole Dark Dragon affair, Adam had ended up heavily damaged. While he was successfully repaired to functional strength, he would be unable to fight anymore. Thanks to better technologies in the Pantheon, he's since been restored to full strength and can fight alongside his master once more.
