A ForumQuest on Creator/{{Nintendo}} [=Nsider2=] Forums created by user Lightning Snow. The Insane Quest Of Unfathomable Randomness takes place in the Universe of 69 Worlds, a [[CloudCuckooLand surreal]], [[MassiveMultiplayerCrossover crossover-prone]] parallel universe where literally [[FantasyKitchenSink anything]] can happen. And it does. Quite often.

The story begins when Nintendoki, an all-powerful but incredibly lazy god, decides to assemble a RagtagBunchOfMisfits (collectively known as "Smoosh") to travel accross the Universe in search of a number of items on the deity's personal wish list. By the third chapter, [[CerebusSyndrome things take a turn for the dramatic]], as the members of Smoosh become self-appointed protectors of the Universe, unravel ancient conspiracies and do battle with Doosh, a team of [[ThePsychoRangers Psycho Rangers]] led by the evil god Segami.

As you may have guessed, it is highly {{Troperiffic}}.

It can be found [[http://nsider2.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=552877 here]] and the official Wiki can be found [[http://insanequest.wikia.com/wiki/The_Insane_Quest_Wiki here]]. It also has an entire ShoutOut page [[ShoutOut/TheInsaneQuestOfUnfathomableRandomness here]].

Since the older one died off. Snow deiced to reboot the RP again called the Insane Quest 2. It can be found [[http://nsider2.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=591699 here.]]

[[folder: The old RP]]
!!The [=IQoUR=] contains examples of the following tropes:
* AbortedArc: Hades mentioned in Chapter IV that the only way to escape Hell was to go to the courthouse and hope that a god was willing to help your case. Since that chapter was the subject of a lot of ArcFatigue, Snow decided to cut the chapter short and just have Hades simply teleport them back to the world of the living.
%%* AbhorrentAdmirer: Hoar serves as this for most of the male characters [[spoiler: except Hades]].
* AbnormalAmmo:
** Eddie's Gun Gun is a gun that fires...guns. He's also used Mortal as ammunition on at least one occasion.
** "Penguins! Load the Hippo Cannon!"
%%* TheAce: Appropriately enough, his name actually is "Ace".
%%* ActionGirl: Luna, Nico, Rose, Nightglide, Sarah, Lori...pretty much any female character other than [[ButtMonkey Hoar]].
%%* AdventurerArchaeologist: One of Lori's jobs.
* AerithAndBob: We have characters with normal names, such as Eddie, Jack, Sarah, etc. As well as characters on the more unusual side of the spectrum, such as Frost, Luna, Hoar, and so on.
%%* AffablyEvil: Eca and Nie.
* AffectionateParody: Roughly 97% of the plot is a pastiche of common JapaneseMediaTropes.
%%* AlchemyIsMagic: Washington's specialty.
* AllThereInTheManual: The wiki provides us with Eddie and Mortal's full names and most of the characters' backstories.
* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: In Chapter V, Washington leaves an immobilized Eddie in order to rescue Nico. To be fair, he did send Spoony Bard to help Eddie before he left.
* AmazingTechnicolorWildlife: Washington is an orange penguin.
* [[AnimatedActors Written Actors]]: For the one-year anniversary of the RP, all of the characters who had appeared so far (and that's a lot) attended a party hosted by Snow to celebrate. The whole thing was declared to be non-canon, however.
* {{Animesque}}: Snow has stated that he intends to make the story of the game similar to that of a {{Shonen}} anime.
* {{Animorphism}}: Washington became a penguin as the result of an accident while practising Alchemy.
** The Walffleworths and Andre and Rios.
* AngstNuke: Segami's temper has been known to trigger atomic explosions.
%%* AntiClimax: [[spoiler: The ending of chapters IV and V]]
%%* AntiClimaxBoss: [[spoiler: Bobby Kotick]]
* ArcWords: ''Nightmare Princess, Nightmare Princess...show mercy to thy country's men...Nightmare Princess, Nightmare Princess...return to the Gate as the clock strikes Ten...''
* ArtifactTitle: Acknowledged by Snow after the RP began to become less and less of a RandomEventsPlot. As a result, the "Unfathomable Randomness" was eventually dropped from the title and the RP is now simply known as "The Insane Quest".
* AsianFoxSpirit: Nico is essentially one of these, minus the multiple tails and trickster personality.
* AwesomeButImpractical: Shigeru Miyamoto- this RP portrays him as a RealityWarper and borderline GodModeSue, but he never shows up when he would be most useful.
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler: The entire cast after being killed and sent to Hell in Chapter 4.]]
%%* BadassAdorable: Pika.
%%* BadassBoast: Ace has engaged in his fair share of these.
%%* BadassInDistress: Travis Touchdown in Chapter III.
* BadassNormal: Eddie used to be one of these before he gained a SuperpoweredEvilSide. Since then, this role has been filled by Sarah.
* BatmanGambit: Eddie pulls a few of these from time to time, with varying results.
* BeamMeUpScotty: Mortal originally didn't say "[[IncomingHam Did someone order a LARGE HAM?]]" in the game itself, with the line only appearing as a quote for his page on the wiki. Afterwards, to avoid any confusion, Mortal decides to blurt out the line for no other reason than so he can go on record and claim that he said it.
* BearsAreBadNews: Jefferson, a miniature polar bear.
* BelligerentSexualTension: Possibly the case with Eddie and Sarah.
* BerserkButton: For such a classy and sophisticated gent, there sure are a lot of triggers that can make Washington temporarily revert into an AxCrazy maniac. Sharks, injuring/kidnapping Nico, touching his flippers, etc.
** Eddie is also prone to going berserk when any harm befalls his teammates, which usually serves as the cue for [[SuperPoweredEvilSide Edmund]] to show up.
** In Chapter V, Nintendoki is playing ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl'' online. After losing due to the numerous problems with Brawl's online mode, the deity goes into a [[UnstoppableRage fit of rage]], [[DeusExMachina teleports to Smoosh's current location]], and proceeds to [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown beat the everloving shit]] out of the enemies Smoosh was currently fighting, resulting in what is one part BigLippedAlligatorMoment, one part OverlyLongGag, and one part SugarWiki/{{Funny Moment|s}}. Snow proceeds to imply that this was actually a CreatorBreakdown related to his frustration with Brawl.
** Jack has a problem if if someone does a [[ThoseWackyNazis Nazi salute]], or is Nazi. Or, any [[TheEmpire Empire]] for that matter.
%%* {{BFG}}: Lori's weapon of choice.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Washington...just...''Washington''.
%%* BigBad: Segami
* BigBadEnsemble: [[spoiler: Nintendoki]] and [[spoiler: Mark Pincus]] appear to be just as antagonistic as Segami, if not more so.
* BigGood: Shigeru Miyamoto, who frequently shows up to help the heroes. Nintendoki might fill this role, except he mostly just [[JerkassGods sits around and ignores most pleas for help from his servants]]
** The Lollipop Lords are also implied to be a BigGood of sorts.
* BigDamnHeroes: Painfully subverted at the end of Chapter 3. After an inspiring MisfitMobilizationMoment, Smoosh storms Doosh's camp in an attempt to rescue Luna. They find Sola waiting there for them, and [[spoiler: she proceeds to '''kill''' every last one of them, including Luna.
** Played straight with [[spoiler: [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Link]]]] in Luna's flashback.
* BlackAndGreyMorality: Segami is shown as being pure evil, but Nintendoki isn't such a nice guy either.
* BlessedWithSuck: Sir Rustynuts is so weak that he actually saps the strength of anyone who touches him.
* BlobMonster: Mortal
* BlownAcrossTheRoom: Lori does this, with her {{BFG}} to Chesire during the boss battle in Chapter V.
* BreakTheCutie: Since Pikachus are usually cute and cuddly little critters, this is possibly what happened to Pika after serving in the military.
* BountyHunter: One of Lori's aforementioned jobs.
* ABoyAndHisX: A penguin and his slug, a loony doctor and his hand-puppet, a fox and her robot, a {{Cyborg}} and her bird-dragon, a BlobMonster and his sentient ball of cotton... * BreakingTheFourthWall: Sometimes giving it such a thorough pulverizing that it borderlines on NoFourthWall.
* BreakoutCharacter: Luna, who was only supposed to have a semi-important role in Chapter I, went on to become one of the most important characters in the story.
* BrooklynRage: Jefferson, the EvilTwin of Washington.
** Not to mention the fact that Ein temporarily becomes diagnosed with "Brooklyn Rage Syndrome", which causes him to become violently angry for no reason.
%%* TheBrute: Eidde Nehoc
%%* ButtMonkey: Lupez.
* CallingYourAttacks: Zepul is the most notorious example, but Frost has done it on a few occasions as well. Mortal also did it once, with the [[Manga/DragonBall "MORTAL ULTRA FIGHTING BOMBER!"]]
* CannotSpitItOut: Washington's only attempted to confess his feelings for Nico once, and the result was simply him becoming hopelessly flustered before deciding to change the subject.
%%* CasanovaWannabe: Lupez.
* CatchPhrase: Luna's "fuh-uck!" among others.
%%* CatsAreMean: Zepul
* CelibateHero: Sir Rustynuts is 382 years old and still a virgin.
* CharacterDevelopment: Quite a bit, considering the quest was originally designed to ignore characterization and other more "serious" elements in favor of comedy.
* ChewBubblegum: Mortal uses this line near the end of Chapter V. Luna, misunderstanding the figure of speech, proceeds to offer Mortal a stick of gum.
* TheChewToy: All the characters at some points, but mostly Eddie.
* ChivalrousPervert: Miyamoto.
** Also Ein. Despite being a DirtyOldMan who collects nude pictures of women as a hobby, he turns down Granny's advances due to being in a committed relationship with [[VisualNovel/AceAttorney Wendy Oldbag]].
* ChekhovsSkill: Some of Lori's jobs.
* CityOfAdventure: Metro-Paramus city. Although in some parts, it's a {{Dystopia}}.
* CityNoir: Metro-Paramus city is an example. With a good amount of CyberPunk and {{Dystopia}}.
* ClingyCostume: Rustynuts's armor. He's had it on for so long that it's literally rusted to his body.
* ClingyMacguffin: One of the items on Nintendoki's list are the socks of Princess Luna Ravenheart, which cannot be removed due to a curse, a la ''Film/TheWizardOfOz''. The only way the curse can be undone is to collect the rest of the items on the list, prompting Luna to join Smoosh since the alternative would be to cut her feet off.
* ClippedWingAngel: [[spoiler: Kotick]]'s true form is a weak little Gollum-like creature.
* CloudCuckooLander: Mortal plays it straight. Sendiel goes up to eleven.
** Frost also shows signs of this, although it's more likely that he's just ObfuscatingStupidity.
** Though being the God of Random, it's obvious the guy is gonna be more than a little insane.
* CollectibleCardGame: Rhadamanthus claims he's made one.
* CombatMedic: Dr. Ein Kelpforest.
* ConservationOfNinjitsu: Inverted and then subverted in Chapter V: while Ember duels with Frost, the Cheshire Cat decides to take on the other nine members of Smoosh present at once. It's clear that he would have won, too, had it not been for him being temporarily distracted by Ember's defeat, allowing his opponents to gain the upper hand.
* CoolShip: The S.S. Appa, which was created by fusing [[WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender Appa the Flying Bison]] with Lupez's pirate ship.
* CrapsackWorld: Sir Rustynuts's kingdom, once a rather nice place to live, quickly began to go down the drain after the King made a few poor choices. Land there now sells for $-20/acre (They pay YOU to take it).
** Lori's home in Metro-Paramus city is another example, with a dose of CyberPunk thrown in for good measure.
* CrossoverCosmology: Played with- Hades mentions that he ruled the Underworld back in the days of Ancient Greece, but by the time Christianity had become popular, ownership of the Underwolrd was transferred to {{Satan}}, who named it Hell, and the rest is history. Then there's the gods from the story's FantasyPantheon...
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: This can pretty much apply to the entire cast.
* CunningLikeAFox: Lori and Nico.
* {{Cyborg}}: It's stated that Nightglide was originally a human.
* DamselInDistress: Luna suffers from this Trope a lot, although Nico has been the damsel on at least one occasion.
* DarkActionGirl: Sola, Ember, Shi, and Nie.
* DarkerAndEdgier: An example of this Trope used properly.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Frost acts as the main character for most of Chapter V, and Chapter VI shines the spotlight on Washington.
** Snow has also shown interest in giving opportunities for the other [=PCs=] to each have their own Chapters as well.* DeadpanSnarker: Eddie.
* DeathByOriginStory: Jack's mother, Nico's pack, [[spoiler: Luna's mother, Perracious]]
* DefeatMeansFriendship: after Nintendoki [[strike: defeats]] ANIHILATES a giant Cotton Ball Monster in Chapter V, one of the cotton balls that made up the creature's body remains alive afterwards and befriends Mortal.
* {{Depower}}: Frost.
* DepravedBisexual: Sola.
* {{Determinator}}: Sarah.
** Rustynuts would also qualify. Sure, he seems pretty lazy and indifferent at first, until you realize that he was able to bring himself back from the dead through nothing but sheer HeroicSpirit, and he is so physically old that at this point his willpower is the only thing holding his body together.
%%* DishingOutDirt: Rose.
%%* DirtyOldMan: Ein, natch.
* DistaffCounterpart: some of the Doosh members serve as this to Smoosh, such as Ember (Frost), Shi the Iguana (Jack the Chameleon), and Dr. Nie Algaewood (Dr. Ein Kelpforest)
* DoomedHometown: [[VideoGame/NoMoreHeroes Santa Destroy]] is almost entirely demolished by Doosh over the course of Chapter III, starting with the detonation of the motel where Travis lives. Needless to say, the assassin is less than pleased.
* DumbMuscle: Eidde, to the point where he can't even speak in a complete sentance.
%%* TheDragAlong: Eddie.
* TheDragon: Sola Soulhawk
* DrugsAreBad: Inverted with Orlando, since being high gives him the ability to see into the future.
* DuelBoss: Ember challenges Frost one-on-one during their second meeting.
* {{Dystopia}}: Metro-Paramus city. But being this town was based on Film/BladeRunner and Franchise/{{Robocop}}, and probably ComicBook/{{Watchmen}}. It was sorta obvious.
* ElementalPowers: Parodied. Alongside the characters who have ice (see above) and fire (see below) powers, Luna and Sola control the "elements" of gum and salsa, respectively.
* EmpathicWeapon: Chompy, Ein's sentient hand-puppet.
* EnemyMine: Smoosh briefly makes a deal with Hades in order to escape from Hell. Subverted when the plan backfires and then [[spoiler: Double Subverted when Hades eventually does help them escape]].
* EnemyWithin: Eddie and Edmund.
* EverybodyHatesHades: Subverted. even though Hades is an insufferable JerkAss, compared to [[spoiler: Kotick]] he is the lesser of two evils, and even teams up with Smoosh at one point.
* CuteKitten: Subverted with Zepul.
* EvilRedhead: Sola.
* {{Expy}} Sarah Belfry is a gender-flipped Simon Belmont from ''Franchise/{{Castlevania}}''.
* FantasticRacism: While not a prominent theme in the story, many of the anthropomorphic animal characters seem to regard the word [[UsefulNotes/FurryFandom "furry"]] as a sort of racial slur.
* FantasyKitchenSink
* FantasyPantheon: Along with pre-existing figures from religion and mythology, there's also [[Creator/{{Nintendo}} Nintendoki]], [[Creator/{{Sega}} Segami]], [[Creator/{{Sony}} Sonyami]] (seeing a pattern here?) and the Four Overlords, two of which being Frost and Rose.
** And let's not Forget the Lollipop Lords.
* FastballSpecial: Eddie shooting Mortal out of the Gun Gun at Zepul.
* FauxHorrific / CoolAndUnusualPunishment: After locking the heroes in his basement, Hades proceeds to torture them by...forcing them to watch a nonstop Film/HighSchoolMusical marathon. That fiend!
* FieryRedhead: Sola and Nico, [[IncrediblyLamePun pun intended]] for the latter.
** Lori has red hair too, but also a little white hair.
* FireAndBrimstoneHell: In Chapter IV.
** Subverted for the ninth circle of Hell, which is freezing cold.
* FireForgedFriends
* FlyingBrick: Edmund. The "flying" part could be justified, as he ''does'' have wings...
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Washington's hatred of sharks. See FridgeBrilliance below.
* FourIsDeath: Guess what happens in Chapter IV? [[spoiler: Everyone dies.]]
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Luna...most of the time.
* FunnyAnimal: Lupez, a talking dog who is also a {{Pirate}}.
* FurryConfusion: It happens a lot.
* FurAgainstFang: Eddie's EvilTwin, Eidde, is a werewolf.
* GamerChick: Lori, Luna, and Rose.
* GenreBusting:Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Action/ {{Shonen}}/Comedy-ToiletHumor/Horror/Romance. All warped up in one mess of a Random RP, named Insane Quest.
* GenreSavvy: After a while, the members of Smoosh begin to catch on as to how things work in their universe.
-->'''Eddie:''' Oh, come on. What are the chances of something bad happening at Washington's family reunion?
-->'''Eddie and Sarah:''' * AsideGlance*
%% * Getting Crap Past The Radar: Due to overwhelming and persistent misuse, GCPTR is on-page examples only until 01 June 2021. If you are reading this in the future, please check the trope page to make sure your example fits the current definition.
* TheGhost: Latrom, Mortal's Doosh counterpart, currently.
* GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere: [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros The Angry Sun]] in Chapter III, Killer Tennis Balls in Chapter IV and Ramen Monsters in Chapter V.
* TheGlomp: Luna does thie to Nico after rescuing her from [[spoiler: Bobby Kotick]]
* GloriousMotherRussia: Averted. While Lori is apparently Russian, she displays none of the stereotypes unless [[ItMakesSenseInContext she is under the influence of accent-inducing tea]], which causes her to say "comrade" a few times.
* GodInHumanForm: Frost was originally a divine being until Nintendoki tricked him into giving up most of his powers after he joined Smoosh.
** It was later revealed that Frost's lack of godly powers was due to [[spoiler: Rose [[BigWhat forgetting to write down his name in the "Mission Book"...]] ]]
* TheGodsMustBeLazy: Nintendoki is so lazy that he had to hire a bunch of mortals just to collect some souvenirs for him.
* GogglesDoNothing: The goggles on Jack's helmet, which are actually a MementoMacGuffin from his late mother.
* GoKartingWithBowser: During the RP's 1-year anniversary celebration, all of the characters, including the villains, all attended a (non-canon) party together. Yes, even Sola.
* GottaCatchEmAll: Smoosh's main goal is to collect all the items on Nintendoki's wish list.
%%* GreenThumb: Rose
* GrievousBottleyHarm: Used by Sarah in the fight against the Cheshire Cat.
* GrievousHarmWithABody: Mortal uses his own blob-body as a weapon. Mostly for trapping and absorbing things.
* GrumpyOldMan: Sir Rustynuts.
%%* GuileHero: Eddie.
* HairTriggerTemper: Lori has a fair share of these from time to time.
* HammerSpace: Frost's secondary power. Washington also allegedly has an entire mansion full of ninja babes inside his top hat.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Hades...possibly.
* HeelFaceTurn: Lupez.
* [[HeKnowsTooMuch She Knows Too Much]]: Nintendoki warns Luna not to stick her nose in where it doesn't belong when she starts asking questions about [[spoiler: the original Smoosh.]]
** When Sarah begins trying to investigate the same subject, Nintendoki shows up ''in person'' making vague threats in an attempt to discourage her.
* HeroicBSOD: Eddie, after [[spoiler: Sola kills Nico.]] this causes Eddie to change into Edmund for the first time, but then [[spoiler: he ends up dying himself immediately afterwards.]]
* HeroKiller: Sola.
* HiddenAgendaVillain: Both Nintendoki and Segami have a tendancy to keep their true motives a secret.
* HissBeforeFleeing: The Cheshire Cat does this after being defeated by Smoosh.
* HiveMind: It's been shown that if Mortal splits apart, any piece of him has conscience. And the Cotton Ball monster's cotton balls apparently all act on their own.
* HollywoodChameleons: Jack.
* {{Homage}}: A lot in this RP to list.
* HospitalHottie: Dr. Nie Algaewood.
* HighlyVisibleNinja: Master Zepul and his band of Drunken Ninjas. To clarify, their definition of "stealth" is steering their giant flying dojo in front of their opponents and delivering a volley of insults before attacking.
* HypocriticalHumor: Ein's reaction to meeting Carlos for the first time.
-->"What a weirdo." said the psychotic surgeon with pink hair and a puppet that resembled dentures.
* AnIcePerson: Frost and Omni.
* IHaveManyNames: Nintendoki, aka Master of the Dimension of Q, 2nd Best D-League Yu-Gi-Oh player, Queen of the Male Girls, Conqueror of Klondike, Fuhrer of the Fourth Reich, Co-Founder of Playguy, and Dealer of the Purple Cards.
* IKnowYourTrueName: Frost seems determined to keep his real name a secret from the other members of Smoosh, with Rose being the only other person who knows it. From conversations between Frost and Rose and other works by the creator of those characters, it is implied that Frost's real name is [[spoiler: Mark]].
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Washington's main weapon is the Bazookachainsaw, which is [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin exactly what it sounds like]]. Eddie also has a weapon known as the "Gun Gun", which is essentially a gun that fires smaller guns as projectiles.
** To counter Eddie's Gun Gun, Eidde has a weapon called the "Sword Sword" a [[KatanasAreJustBetter Katana with several smaller Katanas attatched to it]]. Also, Jefferson has a swiss army knife that can be used as a boomerang.
** Both Ace and Eca have been known to use sex toys as weapons.
* IncomingHam: Mortal uses this as his page quote on the wiki.
* InNameOnly: Chapter 3: VideoGame/NoMoreHeroes. Other than taking place in Santa Destroy and featuring a cameo by Travis Touchdown, the chapter had almost nothing to do with the video game series. Travis Lampshades this at the end of the chapter with an angry rant:
-->'''Travis:''' Wait, what?! That's it for this chapter? Where the hell are all the No More Heroes references?! Shinobu, Death Metal? Snow told me he would have Sylvia in this chapter! And Suda 51! And [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking masturbation!]] This chapter felt totally rushed! This was NO MORE HEROES!! Where's MORE NO MORE HEROES?! [[RageAgainstTheAuthor You totally screwed me Snow!]] WHAT THE FU---* cue explosion*
** WordOfGod states that a future chapter will return the heroes to Santa Destroy and will contain many more references to the actual games.
** Currently, Latrom. He was described in the "Doosh Preview" in chapter III, though.
* InsistentTerminology: When Hades takes over Hell from [[spoiler: Kotick]], he tells people that he's changing its name back to "The Underworld".
** Also, Mortal's weapon is not a hammer. It's a ''mallet''.
* InterspeciesRomance: Washington is a penguin. He has a crush on Nico, who is a humanoid with the ears and tail of a fox.
** Also, if Jack and Lori ever get together, it would result in a relationship between a chameleon and a fox, respectively.
** Mortal is a blob. He has a crush on Luna, a human.
* IntoxicationEnsues: In Chapter 4, Ace encounters a marijuana-themed [[Franchise/CareBears Care Bear]] who claims to have obtained naked pictures of Luna via the internet. Enraged, Ace [[DisproportionateRetribution burns the bear and his stash of weed to ashes]], creating a cloud of pot smoke that ends up intoxicating the rest of the characters.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Mortal initially kept his feelings for Luna a secret, believing that she would be better off with Ace. However, seeing how Mortal has become increasingly annoyed with Ace recently, he might be willing to change his mind...
* JerkassGods: Nintendoki couldn't care less about the well-being of his servants as long as they manage to find the things on his list. As for Segami, he's pretty much a GodOfEvil.
** And then there's Hades...
** Hell, the only god who isn't a JerkAss in this story is Frost, who's actually one of the nicest members of Smoosh.
** However, Frost recently was a Jerkass to a pair of penguins (who had to put bandages on each other).
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Lupez, and possibly Sarah.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: Ember, possibly Kotick and Hoar.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: In the earlier chapters, Smoosh's enemies consisted of giant octopi, Candy Pirates, and angry hamsters. Then along came Sola...
* LargeHam: Nintendoki.
** Also Mortal, apparently. According to his page quote at least.
-->'''Mortal:''' [[IncomingHam "Did someone order a LARGE HAM?"]]
** Don't forget Carlos, the [[strike: Magical Pencil]] MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGICAL PEEEEEEEEEEEEENCIL!
* KansasCityShuffle: Ein suspects that [[spoiler: Ember sabotaging the Zero Divide]] may have just been a setup to keep Smoosh distracted for a while.
* KnightTemplar: A few offhand lines from some of the members of Doosh seem to imply that they oppose the heroes for being assosiated with the "evil" god Nintendoki, while completely ignoring the fact that the atrocities they've committed in the name of Segami (wiping out most of Santa Destroy and killing off the Firefoxes, for example) vastly outweigh any actions performed by Smoosh.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Nightglide. Possibly justified, as she has a computerized brain and her memory files were corrupted by a virus, making for a more plausible version of this trope (well, relatively speaking).
* LastNameBasis: Lupez. So far, Luna is the only one who refers to him by his first name, Wafflemallow.
* [[LastOfHisKind Last of Her Kind]]: Nico might be the last of the Firefoxes after he pack was killed by Doosh.
* LethalJokeCharacter: Mortal started as a useless character who made jokes, but is getting more badass as the story moves along.
* LionsAndTigersAndHumansOhMy: Humans and all sorts of creatures and animals live in the universe of 69 worlds.
* LickingTheBlade: Sola does this after [[spoiler: killing Nico.]]
%%* LovableCoward: Eddie.
* LoveableSexManiac: Ein. Lupez fails to meet the "Loveable" requirement.
* LoveDodecahedron: At the beginning of the story, it was clear that Ace and Luna had feelings for each other. When Ace was PutOnABus, Eddie began showing some romantic feelings towards Luna. Now Ace is back, and Eddie's {{Tsundere}} ex-girlfiend recently joined Smoosh. How any of this is going to work out is anyone's guess.
* LukeIAmYourFather: Sola's not really Luna's EvilTwin. She's actually [[spoiler: her biological cousin.]]
* MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext: At one point, Smoosh has to escort and epileptic smiley face through a maze of exploding duct tape. [[FlatWhat What]].
* MakingASplash: Frost, since his ice-manipulation abilities also extend to control over water.
* MassiveMultiplayerCrossover: Although the story mainly focuses on original characters, there is also an abundance of characters from existing media as well, such as [[VideoGame/NoMoreHeroes Travis Touchdown]] and [[Franchise/PiratesOfTheCaribbean Captain Jack Sparrow]]. Other characters are merely inspired from other works, such as Jack the Chameleon (Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog / VideoGame/AdvanceWars), Omni Bro (Franchise/SuperMarioBros) and Pika (Franchise/{{Pokemon}}).
* MegaManning: Chompy can copy the powers of other people and weapons by licking them.
* MementoMacGuffin: Jack's goggles.
* MidSeasonUpgrade: After a long hiatus, Ace finally returns...as a cyborg ninja.
* MirrorCharacter: Both Nintendoki and Segami are shown as being completely amoral deities who will do whatever it takes to get what they want and don't care who gets hurt in the process. The only thing that really sets them apart is the morality of their servants: Most of the members of Smoosh are generally more heroic than their master and have been known to show either reluctance or out outright defiance to some of his more outrageous demands, while all of the members of Doosh are just as twisted as Segami and are never unwilling to do his dirty work.
* MissionControl: Nintendoki stays in contact with Smoosh via his patented communication device, the "Nintendoki DS" (Later upgraded to the Nintendoki 3DS).
* MisterSeahorse: According to Mortal, his species (being giant, amoeba-like blobs) are able to reproduce asexually, although they still apparently have male and female genders and get married.
** To justify this, it's possible that Mortal's species can only reproduce when they are in love with someone, like Kif's species in WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}.
* MoralityChain: Edmund has outright stated that the only thing stopping him from becoming ChaoticEvil is the fact that he's forced to share a body with Eddie, and if he were to do anything truly heinous, Eddie would complain about it to the point of driving Edmund insane (or more insane than usual, at least).
* MoreDakka: Jack can summon entire ''armies'' at will.
* NewAgeRetroHippie: Orlando.
* {{Ninja}}: Wyu, Zel of the White Leaves, and Master Meowmellow Zepul.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: Ace (a cyborg ninja-swordsman...thing) and Rose (a ninja pirate, natch).
* NonMammalianHair: Lampshaded by Jack the Chameleon, who has a full head of hair under his helmet.
* NoodleImplements: Frost seems to like using these.
* OnlySaneMan: Frost during the earlier chapters.
* OrderVersusChaos: Inverted- Ember, the Queen of Order, is a villain, while Frost, the King of Random, is a hero.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: [[spoiler: Wyu.]]
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: Eddie.
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: Eidde (No that is not a typo).
* OverlyLongGag: "[[Anime/DragonBallZ It's over]] [[MemeticMutation ninety percent!]]"
** What?! Ninety percent?!
** Ninety percent!
** NINETY PERCENT!!!
** IT'S OVER NINETY PERCENT!
** NINETY PERCENT! NINETY PERCENT! NINETY PERCENT! NINETY PERCENT!
** IT'S OVER NINETY PERCEEEEEEEEEEENT!!!!!!
** What?! Ninety percent?!
** Ninety percent?
* OverlyLongName: Baron Washington Wafflesworth Jr., Sr., Jr., MXVII.
* PetTheDog: [[spoiler: The original Smoosh members]] are probably the only people in the multiverse whom Nintendoki treats with a shred of respect.
* {{Pirate}}: Captain Wafflemallow Lupez.
* PlatonicLifePartners: Jack and Lori, although it has been implied that the former might have a crush on the latter.
* PlayingWithFire: Ace, Omni and Nico. On Doosh's side, there's also Ember. Also Mortal after absorbing fire.
* PocketDimension: The Infinite Trophy Case, a world created by Frost while he still had divine powers, is implied to be one of these.
* PortalNetwork: The Interdimensional Highways.
* PreAssKickingOneLiner: Edmund's "Here kitty kitty kitty..." ItMakesSenseInContext, as the opponent he was fighting was the Cheshire Cat from ''Manga/PandoraHearts''.
* PsychicPowers: Orlando and Sendiel.
* ThePsychoRangers: Doosh, lead by Segami and Sola, the {{Evil Twin}}s of Nintendoki and Luna, respectively.
* PutOnABus: Due to the fact that the participants can't always be around to play, characters have been known to disappear from time to time, but [[TheBusCameBack return later]].
* QuintessentialBritishGentleman: Washington.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: In the beginning, Smoosh consisted of a sword-wielding crusader, a cowardly vampire, a pervertred elderly doctor and a former god, and it only got weirder from there.
** So lets see what we have right now: A Cyborg-Ninja fire wielder, a BlobMonster with a living ball of cotton, a old guy who is a master surgeon with a hand puppet, a vampire, the vampire's ex-girlfriend who is a vampire SLAYER, a orange penguin, a old knight who saps energy, a former god, a chameleon who summons units from VideoGame/AdvanceWars, a fox with a [[VideoGame/MegaManLegends Servbot,]] and a robot. [[FlatWhat wat]]
* RebelPrince: According to the wiki, Mortal is actually the prince of an entire planet of [[BlobMonster Blob Monsters]] like him, and ran away to join Smoosh because he felt he was being tied down by his overprotective father.
* RealMenWearPink: Zel.
* RedOniBlueOni: Ace and Frost, and to a lesser extent, Nintendoki and Segami.
* ReferenceOverdosed: Oh yes.
* {{Revenge}}: Nico has a vendetta against Doosh for killing the other members of her pack.
* RoboCam: Ben and Nightglide have these.
* RobotBuddy: Ben, Lori's [[VideoGame/MegaManLegends Servbot]] companion.
* RobotGirl: Subverted with Nightglide, in that instead of being designed to look outstandingly beutiful, she appears to be designed to be intimidating instead.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: While Luna and Mortal are no slouches when it comes being an asset to their team, this trope is taken even further by [[spoiler: Luna's mother, the Queen, who was shown to be willing to step onto the battlefield herself in order to defend her homeworld.]] Unfortunately, [[spoiler: this proved to be her downfall, as she was killed in a duel with one of the Original Smoosh members.]]
%%* RuleOfCool
%%* RuleOfFunny
* {{Satan}}: Turns out he is actually [[spoiler: Bobby Kotick, CEO of Creator/{{Activision}}]].
* ScheduleSlip: Happens from time to time. Whenever this occurs, you can expect a lot of LampshadeHanging and RageAgainstTheAuthor from the cast.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney: [[VideoGame/AdvanceWars Colin]] assists Jack with money with his troops.
* TheScrappy: In-universe, there's Random WTF, an enigmatic little creature that shows up at random times in an attempt to become part of the story. This usually results in [[AuthorAvatar Snow himself]] appearing to forcibly remove the little pest from his RP.
* SdrawkcabName: Many of the members of Doosh, due to them being [[EvilTwin Evil Twins]] / [[EvilCounterpart Evil Counterparts]] of the other characters, such as Eca (Ace), Eidde (Eddie), Nie (Ein) and Latrom (Mortal).
* SeriousBusiness: Video game companies. The games themselves are still little more than a recreation activity, but the companies that produce them are depicted as massive, magically-enhanced empires at constant war with each other.
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: Spoony Bard.
* SharedUniverse: With Roleplay/TVTropesTheAdventure, Roleplay/SmileForTheCamera, and Roleplay/TheDeathSeries...Though there may be some debate whether this is official or not.
* ShellShockedVeteran: Pika. Subverted with Jack, who seems to have a WarIsGlorious -type attitide.
* ShipperOnDeck: Despite his own romantic involvement with Luna, Ace occasionally suspects her and Nico are a couple. Eddie argues this, as he is convinced that [[OneTruePairing Nico is in love with Washington]].
* ShockAndAwe: Zel and Pika.
* ShoutOut: The RP frequently features Shout Outs to things such as VideoGame/NoMoreHeroes, VideoGame/AdvanceWars, WebVideo/YuGiOhTheAbridgedSeries, and even TV Tropes itself.
** Besides those there, it's countless. It has it's own [[ShoutOut/TheInsaneQuestOfUnfathomableRandomness page.]]
* ShowSomeLeg: Hoar, who is literally a female [[MemeticMutation Awesome Smiley]] attatched to a pair of feminine legs.
* SlidingScaleOfSillinessVersusSeriousness: As the name implies, the Insane Quest started off as being 100% silly, but as time went on it began to establish more of a balance.
* TheSmartGuy: Eddie Cohen views himself as this.
* TheSpartanWay: Parodied. When Rustynuts was telling his war story.
* StandardEvilOrganizationSquad: Doosh. [[spoiler: The original Smoosh]] will probably be revealed to be one of these as well.
* StarCrossedLovers: [[{{Deconstruction}} Deconstructed]] with Eddie and Sarah, who used to date despite the fact that Eddie is a vampire and Sarah is a vampire slayer. They ended up breaking up when they decided they were incompatible, but you never know...
* StartOfDarkness: [[spoiler: Luna's flashback]] hints at the possibility of one for Sola.
* StealthPun: In Chapter VI, Smoosh is discussing how they should tell Yvette that she's an item on Nintendoki's List. Washington, a penguin, suggests finding her first, then making it up as they go.[[note]]In other words, the bird is suggesting they wing it.[[/note]]
%%* StraightGay: Eca.
* SuperheroTrophyShelf: Frost's Infinite Trophy Case. Possibly justified, as he ''is'' a god...
* SuperMode[=/=]OneWingedAngel: Nico can transfom into a giant pyrokinetic fox. This usually makes her the primary source of transportation when the S.S. Appa isn't around.
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: Edmund acts as this for Eddie.
* SurrealHumor: In case the previous tropes haven't made it obvious enough.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: Bobby Kotick. "Would you care for a spot of totally non-poisoned tea, while you're here?"
%%* TheStoner: Orlando Greaves.
%%** Not to mention [[spoiler: Mari]]
* SwissArmyAppendage: All four of Nightglide's limbs are capable of transforming into weapons.
* SwissArmyWeapon: Chompy has a vast arsenal of abilities that continues to grow thanks to his MegaManning ability. Miyamoto's Wiimote also qualifies.
* TakeThat: Creator/{{Activision}} gets bashed several times over the course of Chapter 4, especially in the end when we find out that the devil is actually [[spoiler: Bobby Kotick]]
* ThereIsAnother: [[spoiler: Or, to be more precise, There Was Another. Luna's flashback seems to imply that Nintendoki was the leader of another team known as "Smoosh" long before the story's main characters signed up. What happened to those original members is currently unknown.]]
* ThreateningShark: Irving
* [[spoiler: ToHellAndBack]]
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Nico and Luna, respectively.
* TookALevelInBadass: Eddie, who was arguably the least badass character in the cast during the earlier chapters, managed to uprade his status to BadassBookworm during Chapter 3. (And of course, the addition of Edmund might have helped a little...)
** Mortal has gone from a ManChild with no intelligence whatsoever to a tough guy who is the prince of his planet and is a helpful member to Smoosh.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Hades wasn't exactly a nice guy to begin with, but in the Insane Quest he manages to be an even bigger JerkAss than he was in the Disney Movie.
** This is an even bigger MindScrew when you realize that [[spoiler: he's technically one of the good guys.]]
* {{Transplant}} The character Lori was originally part of a different PlayByPostGame entitled "Ultra Knuckles: Extra Shiny RP Edition" before it became an OrphanedSeries. The same goes for Carlos, who originally deuted in a PBP called Project Gold.
* TriggerHappy: Both Jack and Lori are this when they are handling weapons, sometimes.
%%* JustForFun/TropeOverdosed
* TrueCompanions: Not at first, but after a while, it seems our heroes have become close friends.
* {{Tsundere}}: Nico and Sarah are type A. Lori is type B.
* {{Uberwald}}: Forksylvania.
* UnstoppableRage: Don't make Nico angry. You won't like her when she's angry.
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler: Bobby Kotick]] after he is defeated.
* WaveMotionGun: Lori's {{BFG}}.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Mortal's species is unable to escape if captured by a fishing net or any other type of net with multiple holes in it. The ensuing FridgeLogic about how he could easily ooze through said holes to escape is obviously PlayedForLaughs.
** This is to justify the face Mortal would be near-invincible if he could just ooze through everything.
* WhamEpisode: Chapter III. Not only did this chapter mark the first appearance of Doosh, the first recurring antagonists to appear in the story, but it also marked the story's transition from "crazy random humor" to "crazy random humor with a dark storyline and lots of characterDevelopment".
** WordOfGod has stated that we're in for an even bigger Wham Episode once Chapter VII rolls around.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: A few aspects of the story went through some revision before being implemented by Snow, sometimes at the last minute. For example:
** Nintendoki was originally not going to be an actual god, but just a delusioned individual who thought of himself as a god.
** Lupez was going to be a human, rather than a talking dog.
** [[VideoGame/NoMoreHeroes Travis Touchdown]] was going to become a permanent member of Smoosh.
** Zepul was going to be a member of Doosh, rather than being an independant villain.
** Also, Mortal was originally going to be a Jerk Ass human.
* WhipSword: Rose.
* WhoWritesThisCrap: Luna [[RageAgainstTheAuthor gets mad at Lightning Snow for supposedly making her a]] FlatCharacter.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Jack fears spiders, Lori fears scorpions.
* AWizardDidIt: Parodied. Anything that does not make sense is explained as being the result of "HAX".
* TheWonderland: The Infinite Trophy Case.
* TheWorfEffect: Nico is especially prone to this, suffering from the Worf Effect at the hands of three different enemies so far.
* WordOfGod: Snow's Q&A section of [[http://insanequest.wikia.com/wiki/Questions_and_Answers the wiki]] is designed to provide this for the players.
* WorthyOpponent: Edmund, of all people, compliments the Cheshire Cat's use of dirty tactics in the fight against him, even going as far as calling his strategy of using Luna as a hostage "pretty damn impressive".
* YouCannotGraspTheTrueForm: Nintendoki and Segami are censored because their appearances are TOO EPIC FOR MERE MORTALS TO COMPREHEND!!!
** Up until Chapter VI, that is.
* YourVampiresSuck: Eddie was originally created to serve as the anti-[[Literature/TheTwilightSaga Edward]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder: The new and rebooted one.]]
* CallBack: Some of the characters call back to the characters from the original Quest (Aaron still has Eddie's Edmund personality, Falcon is a revamp of the original Falcon and Mortal is a big part of his backstory, ect.)
