If you look at a lot of the comic book adaptations that had come before it, there's a lot of either kind of winking at the material that it's based on, or even condescending to it. I very much like the first ''Film/XMen1'' movie, but probably the most dated thing about it is that they're all in the black leather ''[[Film/TheMatrix Matrix]]'' gear, and Cyclops is like, "What, you'd rather we have yellow spandex?"
