Quincy Matthew Hanley (born October 26, 1986), better known as [=ScHoolboy=] Q (stylized with a capital H) is a hip hop artist from South Central Los Angeles. While he started rapping at the age of 16, he did not get serious about making music as a career until he was 21 after dropping out of college.

In 2008, [=ScHoolboy=] Q dropped his debut mixtape, Schoolboy Turned Hustla, later joining Top Dawg entertainment 2009. He formed the collective Black Hippy along with Music/KendrickLamar, [=Ab-Soul=], and Music/JayRock.

!!Tropes applicable to [=ScHoolboy=] Q include:
* AddledAddict: The first half of "Prescription / Oxymoron" chronicles the toll his abuse of prescription drugs had on his life.
* ComingOfAgeStory: "Hoover Street" chronicles his youth from his childhood into his time joining the Hoover Crips.
* ConsciousHipHop: "Black [=THougHts=]" wades into this category.
-->Let's put the rags down and raise our kids\
Let's put the guns down and blaze a spliff\
Let's do it now, man, no buts or ifs
* CreatorThumbprint: Capitalizes [=tHe=] letter H in [=everytHing=] He writes.
* DarkerAndEdgier: While his music has always ventured into dark territory, as one would expect from hardcore rap, Blank Face LP barely contains any commercial concessions. Even its big hit single "[=THat=] Part" has a dreary beat.
* DotingParent: Talks about his daughter in several songs, and she makes guest appearances in some of his videos as well. Outside of his music, he often posts images of his daughter's soccer games on social media.
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas: Describes his mother as his "superhero" in "Germany 86'."
* FriendlyRivalry: Probably the only rapper who could tell Music/KendrickLamar to get off the throne without sending shockwaves through the industry.
* Gangbangers: His background as a member of the Crips is a consistent theme throughout his music.
* GangstaRap: The first track on Oxymoron, literally entitled "Gangsta," makes it pretty clear that you are about to listen to gangsta rap. Content wise, his music has a pretty even mixture of the Blue Collar and Hardcore varieties.
* InnocentSwearing: Spoken by his then five-year-old daughter on the intro to Oxymoron:
-->Joy: Fuck rap! My daddy a gangsta.
* JunkieParent: "Prescription" touches on how his drug addiction caused him to ignore his daughter.
* LyricalColdOpen: "Numb Numb Juice"
* MeaningfulName: Got the nickname "schoolboy" for briefly pursuing higher education in hopes of making a career as a football player. Q is short for his given name, Quincy.
* MoodWhiplash: "Overtime," one of the few reprieves from the otherwise uncompromisingly bleak Blank Face LP, is directly followed by the closing track "Tookie Knows II," which is perhaps the bleakest track on the entire album.
* OdeToIntoxication: "Hands on the Wheel"
--> Weed and brews, weed and brews\
Life for me is just weed and brews
* MoralEventHorizon: In "Hoover Street," he links his descent into gang activity to his grandmother showing him his first firearm. invoked
* TheStoner: Made abundantly clear by the numerous references to marijuana throughout his songs, including his breakout hit, "Hands on the Wheel."
* ToneShift: After the bleakness of Blank Face LP, he went out of his way to make the follow-up [=CrasH=] Talk a bit lighter in tone.
* TrueCompanions: Him and the rest of the Black Hippy crew.
