A character sprays spit from their mouth when they talk. Sometimes they're just careless and don't realize what they're doing. Other times, they're spitefully doing it on purpose, or just don't care. Either way, it serves to establish the character as rude or uncouth.

Usually, the spit will be sprayed in the face of whoever the spit-sprayer is talking to, but on rarer occasions it could end up in food or just making a mess. This may be played for its grossout value, and/or for the entertainment value of seeing the spittee's angry reaction.

Most spit-sprayers are male, as GuysAreSlobs. Many of them are also loudmouths, which goes hand-in-hand with spraying spit for two reasons: not only is it easier to end up doing it while talking loudly, but someone who doesn't care if they're talking too loudly is less likely to care about the grossness of spraying spit.

Needless to say, she's not interested.
* WesternAnimation/TheCurseOfTheWereRabbit: At one point Victor Quartermaine corners Wallace and confronts him about their shared feelings for Lady Tottington, stressing that he is not going to let "some puddle-headed peasant poach her from me", with each p-word sending droplets of spit in Wallace's face.

* WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooAndTheReluctantWerewolf: Crunch of the Hunch Bunch (a pair of hunchbacks) has a tendency to do this when he speaks, even spraying his boss Dracula when they're talking via a radio or video screen. Dracula is not pleased by this, and lampshades it at one point:
-->Vanna Pira: "There there, Dracky honey, your face is getting flushed!"
-->Dracula: "How can I help it? Every time he talks, he flushes everything!"
-->Vanna Pira: "Oh, it's not his fault. After all, he's a monster."
-->Dracula: "Sure he's a monster, but that's no excuse for being a wet schnook!"

* Film/MontyPythonAndTheHolyGrail: Tim the Enchanter goes on an explosive shouty speech about the danger posed by the KillerRabbit, whilst spitting a lot towards Arthur and his knights. In this case, the spitting serves more to emphasize his LargeHam status rather than any jerkass qualities he may have.
* Film/SpaceJam: When Michael Jordan asks for a volunteer to retrieve his North Carolina shorts and Nike sneakers from his home, Daffy Duck is aghast. "To your houthe?" he asks with his usual moist lisp. "In three-D land?" liberally applying saliva to the camera lens.
* Film/TheThreeStooges:
** "Nutty But Nice": The Stooges cheer up a sick kid by dressing up as little girls. Curly tells a nursery rhyme while spitting on Moe's face when he said petunia.
** "Dizzy Pilots": Attempting to get Moe down after inflating his rubber covered suit with hot air, Larry and Curly uses a rope to get him down. Curly asked Larry what comes after one when they're about pull Moe down on the count of three. Larry responded by saying two and spat in Curly's face. Curly is counting to three and spat Larry in the face when he said two.

* Series/AlloAllo has the waitress Maria in the first three series. One of her running gags was that her french accent was so ridiculously pronounced even compared to the others in the series that she sprays spit in the face of whomever she talks to, resulting in them recoiling and wiping their faces afterwards.
* Series/FawltyTowers: Basil Fawlty behaves like an UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist all the time, but one of his rudest moments is when he finds out that Mr. Hutchinson, the stuffy, pompous, demanding Northerner who he's spent most of the episode pandering to his whims under the impression that he's a hotel inspector, is actually a spoon salesman.
-->Basil: Spoons, eh?
-->Mr. Hutchinson: I beg your pardon?
-->Basil: (leaning towards him and sticking his tongue out) S-(blows a raspberry twice)-oons!
-->Mr. Hutchinson: (pausing to wipe the spit out of his eye) I'm sorry?
-->Basil: I understand you're in the spoon trade?

* Series/SpittingImage features a caricature of Roy Hattersley, the then-deputy leader of Labour Party who spits with every word due to his lisp.

* In VideoGame/MonkeyIsland2LeChucksRevenge, the Zombie Pirate [=LeChuck=] sprays a lot of spit every time he talks. Having only recently become a zombie, he likely doesn't have very good control over his mouth.
* VideoGame/PrzygodyReksia: Al Chomik cares more about making a profit than helping anyone and he spits terribly even when he isn't talking. His huge buck teeth cause him to lisp and hence to spit a lot.

* WebAnimation/HomestarRunner: According to one Strong Bad Email, the coolness of an explosion is measured by how much spit you release when you describe it. Strong bad sprays so much while imitating the sound that Coach Z uses it to shower. When Strong Sad tries it, he only fires a single, pathetic drop.

* Webcomic/CursedPrincessClub: When Princess Aurelia is loudly and angrily , spit is visibly flying out of her mouth. The fact that Aurelia's Curse makes her saliva acidic makes this far less humorous than most other examples, though thankfully it doesn't hit anyone or anything important.

* One Adnan Mansoor vine, title "When People Spit While Talking" features two people in a conversation. 93

* Franchise/LooneyTunes has Daffy Duck who is famously portrayed as either a zany pest or a narcissistic glory hound. The one thing that remains consistent across his appearances is a tendency to spit when he speaks. To a lesser extent is Sylvester the Cat, who has a similar speech impediment and is usually portrayed as a crude antagonistic foil to Tweety Bird. Tasmanian Devil is also prone to spitting while he talks (well, angrish screeches) and often makes it worse by BlowingARaspberry at the end of his sentences.
* WesternAnimation/TheLoudHouse: Downplayed for Lisa. Due to her lateral lisp, she spits when she talks. However, the spit only flies in someone's face on occasion, and she's not that obnoxious (only occasionally lapsing into InsufferableGenius territory).
* WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarePants: In "Wet Painters", Mr. Krabs laughs so much at [=SpongeBob=] and Patrick's expense that his spit undoes the entire paint job on his house. The paint comes off with saliva, and he lied about it being permanent just to screw with the two.
* WesternAnimation/TinyToonAdventures has one episode featuring Sylvester as a color commentator for a sports game. He releases so much spit that Porky can row a boat in it.
