Jason Gastrow (born January 30, 1991), better known online as [[https://www.youtube.com/user/videogamedunkey videogamedunkey]] or simply "Dunkey", is a [[Website/YouTube YouTuber]] known for his content on video games, although his style and approach often varies from video to video.

He started his channel in October 2010, although he was on the Internet [[OlderThanTheyThink for many years beforehand]], making Flash animations on Newgrounds as well as owning a few older [=YouTube=] channels called [[https://www.youtube.com/user/Meatwadsprite Meatwadsprite]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/user/jmonkey21/videos jmonkey21]] (which is his oldest channel, dating back to 2006). His primary claim to fame during his initial years was through his ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends'' videos, although he would officially quit playing and making videos for the game in 2015.

While his content currently varies from reviews ("dunkviews") to humorous gameplay to [[HiddenDepths deeply insightful]] video essays to generally experimental videos, most of it falls squarely under his [[CuckoolanderCommentator outlandish]], {{surreal|Humor}}, and [[BreathlessNonSequitur non sequitur]]-laden brand of humor.

In late 2022, Dunkey and his wife Leah (known online as [[https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCq7D2jqBfjse5M18CaLlTjA Leahbee]]) co-founded [[https://bigmode.com/ BIGMODE]], a game publisher planning to focus on high-quality indie games. Their first game, Billy Basso's ''VideoGame/AnimalWell'', was due for release in 2023, [[ScheduleSlip but was eventually released in the following year]].

He also released an album in 2014 which [[http://dunkey.bandcamp.com/releases can be purchased off of Bandcamp for $10]] or [[http://www.mediafire.com/download/2uq04wfc14wdobp/Dunkey_Album.zip downloaded for free off of Mediafire]].[[labelnote:Note]]The Mediafire link has been provided [[https://www.facebook.com/Videogamedunk/posts/327776607371204 by Dunkey himself]], so we're not endorsing piracy or anything.[[/labelnote]]

----
!! This dimbus contains the following tropes:
[[foldercontrol]]
[[folder:Tropes A-D]]
* TheAbridgedSeries:
** Essentially what the ''Halo: Recap Evolved'' series amounts to. Four videos summing up ''VideoGame/Halo1'', ''[[VideoGame/Halo2 2]]'', ''[[VideoGame/Halo3 3]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/Halo4 4]]'' in a non-stop stream of RapidFireComedy.
** His [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYTirwx3FkU "Phantom]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfcu_dhwVA4 Dentist"]] videos also count as this, loosely retelling the story of Episodes 1 and 2 of ''Star Wars'', using footage of the Lego games, with Dunkey dubbing over it.
* ActuallyPrettyFunny: Even though his commentary about ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy: the Video Game'' makes it obvious that he doesn't like the show, he couldn't help but chuckle at a few of the game's gags, such as mimes being responsible for the {{Invisible Wall}}s or having to just a press a button for a minigame because [[BreakingTheFourthWall they exhausted the game's budget already.]]
%%* AffectionateParody: Any time he mentions WebVideo/{{Jontron}}.
* AmnesiacHero: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5Xa0ACKaNo Why You Can't Remember the Story of any Videogame]] lampshades the trope. The video is 11 and a half minutes of Dunkey listing games where the hero... ''has amnesiaaa...''
* AmusementParkOfDoom: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fF9-XOEpFS8 Rollercoaster Dunkcoon]] has Dunkey running one. He unleashes wild animals in an area full of people, causes carts to [[StuffBlowingUp explode]] in an occupied pool, and makes a rollercoaster to run straight into a line full of people.
* AndThereWasMuchRejoicing: According to his VideoGame/HalfLife2 dunkview, the game redeemed itself with its ending in which [[spoiler:Alyx is killed.]]
* AntiAdvice: In his "Game Critics" video, Dunkey espouses the view that [[GiftedlyBad consistently wrong]] critics, such as movie contrarian Armond White, can be used as this.
* AntiClimax: "Top 100 Games". Not only is it 15 minutes long, but [[spoiler:'''there is no real #1'''. All we see is Dunkey randomly searching up "top games" lists, scrolling through Wikipedia's "bestselling games" page, and indiscriminately selecting ''VideoGame/ZeldaIITheAdventureOfLink''.]]
%%* ApologizesALot: In his ''VideoGame/GoatSimulator'' video.
* AprilFoolsDay: In 2016, seven months after infamously quitting ''League of Legends'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlo0-GDi-qc Dunkey decided to come back]] with a new ''League'' video...[[spoiler:''VideoGame/RocketLeague'', that is]].
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking:
** From "I'm Going to Kill You":
--->I will shoot you in the throat\
I will strangle with a coat\
I will staple to a boat\
I will throw you in the moat\
I will eat your mother's oats
** Also in his Postal 2 video, after countless crude acts he goes into an 'employees only' area and giggles like a madman.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6yHoSvrTss Ultimate Skyrim]] [[TheWarSequence has Dunkey fight an army of]] [[WesternAnimation/ThomasAndFriends trains,]] werewolves, Macho Man Randy Savages, and bears. All of this takes place at night illuminated by [[Videogame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask Termina's moon]]. A bear with a lute is playing things in the background. Dunkey's character wields a lightsaber and even breaks the laws of physics while flying through the air to take out several Randy Savage dragons. But the ''one'' thing that causes Dunkey to go ScrewThisImOutOfHere is [[spoiler: a crab wearing a top-hat and a monocle.]]
--->'''Dunkey:''' That's where I draw the line. Come on, [[VideoGame/{{Halo}} Master Chief,]] let's get the '''fuck''' outta here!
* ArtShift: "Monkey [[UsefulNotes/McDonalds McDonald's]]", "Smash Bros 4: Dream Roster" and "Dunkey's Language" are all fully animated shorts voiced by Dunkey, and "I'm Going to Kill You" and "Green Eggs and Jam" are both fully animated music videos.
* AssShove: In his ''Dark Souls'' video, Dunkey comes across an animal and stabs a specific part of its body. Ouch.
* AtrociousAlias: In [[VideoGame/DarkSouls "Skunk Souls"]], Dunkey is greatly amused by the name "Iron Tarkus" and continually teases Tarkus about it while the two of them are fighting a boss.
* AuthorAppeal: Has a fondness for injecting a "mobster" narrative in some of his videos wherein he is, of course, a high-ranking button man avenging a wrong done against the organisation on whoever his opponent is at the time.
* AuthorTract: In "Game Critics", talking about the critical reception of ''[[VideoGame/CrashBandicootNSaneTrilogy Crash Bandicoot: The N. Sane Trilogy]]'' results in him going off-topic and talking about his opinion of the game. He eventually [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] this and says that he lost focus... which he then uses to say that game critics lack focus.
* AwardSnub: [[invoked]] {{Discussed|Trope}} in his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqMblpSqhgM Game of the Year]], where he talks about a couple of obscure games that inexplicably beat out more acclaimed titles for various GOTY awards.
* BaitAndSwitch:
** In his 2015 Best Games of the Year, he states that he'll be retiring Super Mario Brothers 2 as Game of the Year since it has been reigning champ for 13 straight years. And VideoGame/MetalGearSolidVThePhantomPain was his number one and the credits roll...[[spoiler: PSYCHE! [[RunningGag STILL THE KING BAYBEE]]]] The "Best Games of the Year" series itself is an example, as it's not a ranking of games that ''came out'' that year, necessarily, just ones that he ''played'' that year.
** His ''Knack II'' review begins with him seriously critically examining the original ''Knack'' as well as the meme created about ''Knack'' being amazing. [[spoiler: The last third of the video is him playing up the "Knack is the best game ever" meme, but for the sequel instead.]]
** He starts his ''Videogame/GodOfWarPS4'' review by pointing out that he was not selected to receive a review copy of the game, [[invoked]][[NotScreenedForCritics which is usually a bad sign.]]
--->"So, are these fucking limp-dick critics that don't know shit about videogames just being stupid ''again?'' ...No, it's actually really good."
** The thumbnail and opening of "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zE-J1rK1NQ Bad Graphics]]" make the video seem like it'll discuss poorly-aged graphics, like the CG in the first ''Franchise/{{Tekken}}''. It's actually about issues with visual clarity in modern games.
** His episode on ''VideoGame/{{Forspoken}}'' has one single second of the game with the rest being about ''VideoGame/SpiderMan2''. Dunkey spends his time making Spidey [[{{Superdickery}} the webslinging menace]] J. Jonah Jameson says he is. He only gets to his review of the actual game after Spidey punches out Mysterio.
-->"Well Mysterio, looks like you should have thought be'''for'''e you '''spoken'''. ''Forspoken'' is a terrible game by the way."
* TheBard: His fictional musical support, Joey Bonzo, who is apparently a musical god and knows how to play every popular instrument of the 80's. In his videos, specifically his {{VideoGame/Super Mario 64}} playthroughs, he only plays a {{rimshot}} whenever he's around (most of the time, [[PutOnABus he is not)]]. [[spoiler:Then [[BusCrash he dies]], [[DeathIsCheap comes back to life for one intro]], and is [[BlackComedy killed again by Dunkey himself]] because he was being an annoying jerk.]]
* BestialityIsDepraved: Gives [[VideoGame/{{LISA}} Nern]] this interpretation, who gets an erection thinking about a horse, mentions something about a dick stuck in a rhino's ass, and apparently gave a monkey a reach-around.
* BerserkButton:
** Whenever someone says Dunkey has anger issues.
** In "[=GoatZ=] Simulator", the number 9 is this to him.
** As told [[https://youtu.be/cl72woucC7g?t=21s by Sky Williams]], you do NOT insult Leah in front of the Dunkster, not even jokingly (unless you're Sky, who always gets away with jokingly bickering with Leah during League sessions).
* BigBad: Steinfeld is this in [[RamblingOldManMonologue Dunkey's true story]] about ''VideoGame/MegaMan2''. His evil deeds include trying to become [[Series/TheFreshPrinceOfBelAir The Fresh Prince]], [[Film/TheDarkKnightRises taking over Hawaii and blowing it up with a nuke]], [[Film/ChildsPlay creating an evil doll that kills people]], [[RuleOfFunny escaping the basement]] and [[VideoGame/MegaMan2 turning into an alien to try to take over the world]].
* BigNo:
** End of the ''VideoGame/ToyStory'' dunkview.
** When the Akinator correctly guesses [[{{Franchise/Pokemon}} Quagsire]].
** Oh so many at the end of "Glitchstone".
** In his "best of 2014" video while talking about ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'', as the camera zooms in on a sign with a skull-and-crossbones on it.
** After he tries and fails multiple times to enter the [[VideoGame/EarthBound1994 Twoson Hospital]] without accidentally exiting (his controls are messed up) in "God Damn Mushroom".
* BigShutUp: When the Website/{{Akinator}} asks Dunkey if his character has "problems controlling his anger"[[note]]he's seeing if the Akinator can guess himself[[/note]].
** While pushing something off of his table in "How to Get Subscribers".
* BigWordShout: All we can say about [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1rgrDcPtBQ "Bill Murray's Space Jam 10"]] is that Dunk's got quite the larynx. Also, it wouldn't be foolish to turn down the volume.
* BigYes: From "Eddie Murphy calls Taco Bell" when Dunkey finds out he has won $100, he rattles off several. [[spoiler:Unfortunately, he doesn't get it.]]
* BitingTheHandHumor:
** The description for [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZR0SNAthIU his Beyond Two Souls video]] reads, "In the next youtube update you have to solve 8 puzzles to post a comment." Most people say this was funnier than the video itself.
** This ended up backfiring on him during his "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MsTwk9X5es Brother Bears]]" video. Microsoft forced him to take it down since he had a deal to make a video promoting the game and they weren't amused with him making fun of the game.
* BlackComedy: His humor can occasionally venture into darker territories, especially with how random it can get.
* {{Blackmail}}: "How to Get Subscribers", in which he uses this method to get viewers to subscribe. His threats include burning a chicken, throwing a pen at a window, [[VideoGame/SuperMarioBros1 going down the warp zone pipe to world 2]], making ''VideoGame/EverQuest'' videos, smashing a Lego house with a large weight, and [[BreadEggsMilkSquick murdering his own cat]]. [[spoiler:At the end, he actually smashes the Lego house.]]
* BlatantLies:
** Dunkey frequently claims to be playing a game when he obviously is not, such as his ''Nintendogs'' review where he actually plays ''VideoGame/IncredibleCrisis'', or his review of [[VideoGame/LeagueofLegends "League of Legends 2"]] where he plays the ''WesternAnimation/AdventureTime'' MOBA.
** His commentary is mostly this and InherentlyFunnyWords.
* BondOneLiner:
** The basis of a CMOA at the end of his ''Rust'' video. A griefer screams in a high-pitched voice at Dunkey, 'I have my die move', a running gag in his videos. He blows the griefer away with a shotgun and responds with this:
--->'''Dunkey''': It's a good thing I brought my kill move, then. *[[VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoViceCity Vice City]] theme starts playing*
** After killing a knight in ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'' and watching his body go up in flames, he says "I guess you could say he's fired!"
*** Paves way for an IronicEcho when Dunkey fails a jump and ends up dying from the fall. "I guess you could say I'm fired."
* BookEnds: His ''VideoGame/FarCry1'' video begins and ends with a shot of a pair of mooks getting run over by barrels. However, at the start Dunkey simply spectates and laughs, but at the end the barrels run him over as well.
* BorrowedCatchphrase: From ''League of Legends: Return To Plat''
-->'''Anthony Wastella (Nautilus player):''' naut even close baby\
'''Dunkey:''' [[ActuallyPrettyFunny *chuckle* God damn it.]]
* BoringButPractical: In ''Bad Graphics'', he argues that the simplistic map design and spell effects that ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends'' utilizes are to its benefit, since it keeps the focus on the characters fighting. On the other end, he criticizes ''VideoGame/DOTA2'' for putting so much on the screen at once [[InterfaceScrew that it's easy to lose track of what's going on.]]
* BreadEggsBreadedEggs: [[https://youtu.be/_8Nb_zgWZZ4?t=1m53s "Fuck you, Hitler! Fuck you, Donald Trump! Fuck you, Trumpler!"]]
* BreathlessNonSequitur: He's a master at it.
** One of his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZOlNmGRuDQ "I'm A Cop"]] prank calls takes an unexpectedly [[SurrealHumor surreal]] turn when he claims he's an undercover cop who will be waiting outside a Gamestop, wearing sunglasses and a chicken suit.
* BrokeTheRatingScale: On a regular basis.
** His rating of Youtube channels graded most Youtubers on a scale of A to Z. For WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic, he forewent a letter grade and put him in "[[Anime/YuGiOh the Shadow Realm]]." He would later do the same thing to WebVideo/GameGrumps after playing one of Ross' [[NintendoHard infamous]] ''VideoGame/SuperMarioMaker2'' levels.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He may seem like a goofy person on the surface, but he has shown genuine brilliance and excellence in everything from rapping to analyzing video games.
** When it comes to ''League'', his skill level bounces back and forth between "troll" and "astonishing", [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQusm6rHRaY sometimes within the same video]]. Fans regularly express amusement that Dunkey is one of the few [=LoL=] players that can troll games and still win many of them.
** While he isn't playing elite level clan games, he has shown a high level of ability in both Rocket League and Counter Strike.
* CallARabbitASmeerp: Ever since his ''VideoGame/DeathStranding'' review he refers to [[PlatformGame Platformers]] as "Strand-Type Games". [[note]] Making fun of how [[Creator/HideoKojima Kojima]] and many critics were hyping up the game as being a "new genre" named that. [[/note]]
* CallBack:
** "Bubberducky" was one of Dunkey's most popular videos, and he returns to it in his "Secret Character" video using an old commercial for the Gator Golf game.
--->'''Dunkey''': In Gator Golf, you play as Gator Golf. But watch out for Bubberducky, [[ReallyGetsAround HE FUCKED MY WIFE.]]
** His "Best Class" video is literally a {{VideoGame/Team Fortress 2}} remake of his "Best Champion" video.
** His Twitch stream page is called "Dunkey's Cashle". The first episode in his Super Mario 64 Let's Play series was called "Bowser's Cashle".
** After not having made a dance party video since he had 60k subs (back in early 2012), he continues his habit once he hits one million.
** His [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McDXSxH3Sx8 History of Gaming]] video features the "HERE COMES THE MONEEEY" gag that hadn't been used since his ''Game Dev Tycoon'' video.
** His [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3Y1lbG0HkI Best of 2014]] video has ''VideoGame/FarCry1'' on the list, which Dunkey had previously made a video for.
*** [[spoiler:[[BrickJoke The #1 game on the list is]] ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros2''.]]
** In his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkNaUiaGRxw MGSV video]], he says [[VideoGame/MetalGear Shadow Moses]] in a similar way he said it in his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8EfMTiOtb0 Final Fantasy VII video]].
** In the fourth episode of his ''VideoGame/{{EarthBound|1994}}'' series, he says that Microsoft is run by ants. The statement is reused in the ending segment of his "Microsoft Sucks" video.
** In "Dundertale", the game itself plays a rimshot, prompting Dunkey to thank Joey Bonzo
** In his video on ''VR Chat'', he ragequits the same way he did in ''VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim''.
---> '''Dunkey''': Woah, is that Shaggy from ''WesternAnimation/ScoobyDoo'' drinking a beer? That is where I draw the line! Come on, [[VideoGame/{{Halo}} Master Chief]], let's get the '''fuck''' outta here!
* CallForward: In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iMBROGV2O8 "Tank Search"]], Dunk mentions the act of putting a ScreamerPrank with a [[CatScare picture of a squirrel]] and a loud sound. 4 days later, he would do just that in "Hitman Goes to the Book".
* CallingYourAttacks:
** '''''[[LargeHam DUUUUUUUNKEEEEEEEEEYYYYYY BLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAST!]]'''''
** "This move I have is really cool, but '''''DUNKEY ROLL''''' but it's really, I have to say it really loud whenever I do it, so it's kind of risky doing it '''''DUNKEY ROLL!'''''"
* CapcomSequelStagnation: Invoked in his Game Dev Tycoon video, where he makes a sequel for ''Kill Butt 3'', and then a sequel ''[[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment to that sequel.]]''
** This led to a lot of fans calling for "Kill Butt 3: 2: 2: 2".
* CaptainObvious: He goes out of his way to point out the first VideoGame/DarkSouls enemy a second after it has dropped down in front of him.
* CarefulWithThatAxe: This situation involves {{Music/Pink Floyd}}, [[TropeNamer coincidentally]]. In his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfO1XhRob3c Karaoke Party]] video, when singing "[[Music/TheWall Another Brick in the Wall (Part Two)]]," he screams "HEY TEACHER LEAVE THOSE KIDS ALONE!" so loudly the game can't tell what notes he's singing. Later, the same thing happens in his renditions of [[{{Music/Aerosmith}} "Dream On"]] and [[Music/CelineDion "My Heart Will Go On"]].
* CassandraTruth: Two of his teammates are unwilling to believe that he's Dunkey when he's playing ''[[VideoGame/CounterStrikeGlobalOffensive CS:GO]]''. It indeed is Dunkey, [[{{Troll}} playing the same two voice clips on a digital soundboard]].
* CatchPhrase:
** "Not even close, baby!" (has become something of a meme for League of Legends players)
** "Watch out for my X!"
** "...into the ocean!"
** "Nice try, guy!"
** "Good thing I have my X move!"
** "It was Singed the whole time!"
** "Oh boy..."
** [[OhCrap "Uh oh!"]]
** "Pet me X."[[note]][[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znsRorTPX6Q Pet me X. Pet me X. Not that X.]][[/note]]
** "YOU '''BITCH!'''"
** "I win, babe."
** "Actually, I changed my mind."
** "I won't do it again, I won't do it again...but watch out, I'm gonna do it again!"
** [[NeverMyFault "It wasn't me."]]
** "Thank you, ''Dark Souls''."
*** "''Don't laugh''."
** "Tony, get the boulder."
** "What, are you stupid or something?"
** "I'll have the spaghetti and meatballs."
** (in any ''VideoGame/HappyWheels'' video) "Legs are optional."
** He uses the word "chalupa" often.
** His ''VideoGame/{{EarthBound|1994}}'' playthrough frequently uses the phrase "I'm back in the saddle".
** This is the first strand type X.
%%* CloudCuckooLander: Is famous for his incoherent NonSequitur anecdotes.
* ClusterFBomb:
** In his "Jackass Singed" video against a team of 5 [[MistakenIdentity Singeds]].
** Also his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd3aiNZzyuA League of Legends Season 4]] video is full of swearing.
** In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCZdqYimZkg Skunk Souls]] whenever he dies.
* ComedicSociopathy: Anyone in the video game, NPC or otherwise, is not going to go out unscathed if Dunkey has a say in the matter.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Expect this to show up at least [[OnceAnEpisode once per video]].
** In "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MsTwk9X5es Brother Bears]]", the video that [[Creator/MicrosoftStudios Microsoft]] hated and took down, there's a scenario in which Dunkey sees someone hanging.
--->'''Dunkey''': [[BigOMG Oh my god!]]...Look at those red blankets over there, these are pretty nice.
** In ''Hitman'', Dunkey kills everybody inside the hotel before uttering this gem:
--->'''Dunkey''': Wait a minute...there's been a murder! [[BlatantLies Hitman killed]] ''[[BlatantLies one maid!]]''
** In ''Resident Evil 7'', he opens the fridge [[spoiler: with the rotting meat inside, but instead of commenting on the disgusting necrotic puddle he's actually pleased to find ''a box of microwave spaghetti.'']]
** In ''Dark Souls'', he comments on how big Gwynevere's...''clothes'' are.
** In "Cute Robot Game" Dunkey removes 2B's OS chip, which not only kills her, but ends the game entirely. Dunkey's response?
---> I beat the game, guys.
** In one of his Prop Hunt videos, part way through the video he switches to a Slenderman game mode for Counter Strike
--->'''Dunkey''': Where are the notes? Where are the drawings?\
'''Other player (Daft Punkette):''' Ummm... there could be some in the water.\
''Dunky spots Slenderman watching them through the window''\
'''Dunkey''': There's a pretty good one of him by the window.
* ContinuityLockout[[invoked]]: Dunkey experiences this in ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSYWIh7ajR4 Injustice 2]]'' in regards to the story from the [[VideoGame/InjusticeGodsAmongUs previous game.]]
* CreatorKiller: InUniverse. During his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPhubc3x6Pw Game Dev Tycoon]] video, his character Paul Creenis receives huge success and critical acclaim for many of his games, until sales start to slip with ''Typing for Fucks'' and ''Beaverball Revenge'' due to misaimed marketing. Things get worse after critics pan his next few games, ending with the nail in the coffin ''Last Hope'' (a game so minimalistic it doesn't even have sound) receiving an average score of 1.75/10 and the company going bankrupt. [[spoiler: Also taken literally, as he shoots himself as a result.]]
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: From his videos, it's very clear that Dunkey is rather silly. But it's also clear from his League of Legends videos that he can kick a '''TON''' of ass too.
* CrossOver: In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMcCKLmivHE Guns of Dick]], he played ''VideoGame/GunsOfIcarus'' with LetsPlay/{{Yogscast}}, [[WebVideo/TheAngryJoeShow Angry Joe]], [[LetsPlay/ChaoticMonki Cry]], [[WebVideo/PressHeartToContinue Dodger]], the list goes on.
* CuckoolanderCommentator: A staple of his commentaries.
** From "Kanye Quest":
--->'''Dunkey''': By using Winslow on [[Music/TupacShakur Tupac]], I've disabled all his special moves. Now he's useless!
** A bit of it in "Skunk Souls".
--->'''Dunkey''': The giant bat's wings are purely for show, to scare away predators.
** Starting with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1krWkG5l_cU Part 2]], his VideoGame/MegaMan2 LetsPlay becomes [[MythArc a lengthy and strange story]] about his encounters with his arch-nemesis, Steinfeld, rarely saying anything relevant to the game. Many of the Youtube comments ask what Dunkey was on when he made the videos.
* TheCuckoolanderWasRight: In his ''VideoGame/NierAutomata'' video, he continually claims that the machines are evil because "robots eat people." This is well before the scene where a group of insane machines do indeed eat someone, prompting a "I FUCKIN' KNEW IT!"
* CurseCutShort:
** In his "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypTxCrZlmsE Ackbar: Dance Party]]" video, Ackbar says "IT'S A FUCKING PIECE OF SH-" before the video abruptly ends.
** In his "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahqOcapNi4w Hearthstone]]" video, Dunkey tries to get a break from dying in every game, so he plays ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros3'' and says "Now this is a classic--". He then runs into a Goomba and dies, and finishes with "--PIECE OF SH-" before the video ends.
** In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCZdqYimZkg "Skunk Souls"]], Dunkey fails to summon a phantom and says "You piece of sh-" before the video has a JumpCut.
** Averted in his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb6GML4rx0o Kingdom Hearts]] video: Philoctetes cuts himself off and Dunkey finishes the sentence with "bitch".
* DamnedByFaintPraise: When watching rapper Music/LilB's video showing off his video game collection, Dunkey laughs that Lil B calls every game he has "a classic," even if he hasn't played it. That is until he gets to the game ''[[VideoGame/Siren1 Siren.]]''
--> '''Lil B:''' "''Siren''... it's alright."
--> '''Dunkey:''' "Holy shit. That game must fucking suck ass."
%%* DeadpanSnarker: When berating a League of Legends player or reviewing a bad game.
* DescriptionCut: From [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KndsrvsucH4 Best Video Game Music]] when he's criticizing a ''Franchise/StreetFighter'' song:
-->'''Dunkey''': Who makes this guy? He's a fucking bozo! You don't get shot playing ''Street Fighter''! It's not that fucking crazy!

-->'''Dunkey''': KILL DAT NIGGA! KILL DAT NIGGA! WHOOOO! [[ThisIsForEmphasisBitch YA BITCH! YA BITCH!]]
* DigitalPiracyIsOkay: Although Dunkey put his album up on Bandcamp to be purchased for ten dollars, he also provided his fans with a Mediafire file if they wanted to download it for free.
* DisproportionateRetribution: In his Vice City video, Billy Jean comes on the radio. Then it's interrupted by a broadcast, causing Dunkey to go berserk and begin a murderous car rampage.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdnYy1b8KEY Die Sounds]], where female characters die. Loudly.
** Lampshaded in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se32VCORUjc Cutscene 2]]:
--->"Ooh, here we go. Yeah, tie her down. I like where this is going."
* TheDogWasTheMastermind:
** At the end of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtplRk6BdyA Dundertale]], it's revealed that [[spoiler: Lesser Dog]] is the true villain responsible for [[Main/{{NeverMyFault}} Dunkey's actions]] throughout the game. 202** "He's the fucking bird, people! [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6uTKPwVnNI The bird is Jontron!"]]
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Sephiroth's]] [[OneWingedAngel true final form]]? [[spoiler: [[GoddamnedBats Frogs!]]]]
* DownerEnding: "Mario Kart Wii: Hitler's Reign" has a very chilling ending--hell, the second act of the video is an eerie descent into insanity, and it's at its worse by the end. [[spoiler:The ending is the final shot of ''Series/BreakingBad'''s "Crawl Space".]]
* DrivenToSuicide:
** Dunkey in his Draw My Life video, where he suddenly [[MoodWhiplash ends up]] [[spoiler:[[BlackComedy hanging himself]]. Not only that, but he draws "FUCK MY LIFE" nearby.]]
** Also possibly at the end of his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPhubc3x6Pw Game Dev Tycoon]] video, [[spoiler:where he goes bankrupt, his game ends, and we hear a gunshot.]]
** "God Damn Mushroom", an episode of his ''VideoGame/{{EarthBound|1994}}'' playthrough, has Dunkey struggling to cope with a mushroom that has permanently fixed itself atop Ness' head. Near the end, he just gives up entirely, pleading for death to come and claim him.
** At the end of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-GbEWY3Auk Chronicles of Minecraft]], Dunkey is trapped deep underground, and the only way out is with a gun.
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: Recurring character Joey Bonzo just stops showing up during Dunkey's Super Mario 64 playthrough, prompting Dunkey to decide he's dead.
* {{Dubstep}}: Dunkey tackles this in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCHVdq73o4s his "Dubstep Singed" video.]]

[[folder:Tropes E-L]]
* EdutainmentShow: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eyz_YJl4AjQ Educational Bear Video]] parodies this, at first claiming to be for-school list of polar bear facts with some Volibear gameplay but very quickly breaks down into ridiculousness, with "facts" like polar bears [[ArtisticLicenseBiology eating their own young]] or [[OneHitPointWonder being so weak they die after one hit from a squirrel]].
%%* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: ''Dunkey's Flash videos.''
* TheEeyore: In his Mordekaiser video, where his self-inflicted punishments for failure escalate higher and higher.
* EvenTheSubtitlerIsStumped: In the Aladdin musical number of the "Animal World Soccer" video, Dunkey's efforts to try and lipread the song's vocals create a bunch of WordSaladLyrics, and eventually he says "fuck it i give up".
* EveryEpisodeEnding: Each video of his now ends with a black screen with white text displaying "more dunkey" (or a strange mutation of the word "dunkey"); formerly, the text used to encompass an annotation that led to a playlist of more videos, but he has now added [=YouTube=] cards that link to playlists.
* EveryoneHasStandards: PlayedForLaughs frequently in his videos, where he tends to draw the line at certain things that seem a bit too silly.
** The one thing that disgusts him greatly is the ugly physique of his ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'' character.
** The mod that broke his ability to play ''VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim''? A mod that spawned a crab wearing a top hat and a monocle. Dunkey quickly leaves in anger at seeing it.
** Played a bit more straight with his ''VideoGame/OctopathTraveler'' video, where he admits that even someone like him who dislikes [=JRPGs=] loved ''VideoGame/Persona5''.
* ExactWords: ''no video today'' indeed has no video. The audio, however, is very much there.
* FaceCam: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_avgJJvgSc The Lion Book]] uses it, but Dunkey's mouth [[HongKongDub never matches with his voice-over]].
* FailedASpotCheck: Lance Vance in Dunkey's [[VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoViceCity Vice City]] playthrough. ''Twice''.
--> '''Tommy''': Lance! Why are you tied to this chair of all places?
--> '''Lance''': Yo, I thought this was the UsefulNotes/McDonalds drive-thru/Outback Steakhouse.
* FakeDifficulty: {{Exaggerated|trope}} in [[VideoGame/Left4Dead2 "Left 4 Dead All-Stars"]], where he barely lasts a good 5-10 seconds at a time without dying.
* FanCommunityNickname: Has yet to make an official one, but "bumbos", "dinks", and "binkies" have been tossed around. The denizens of his Reddit fan page refer to themselves as "goons".
* FanDisillusionment: ''VideoGame/{{Overwatch}}'' used to be one of Dunkey's favorite games, dedicating several videos on his channel to his various gameplay shenanigans. Then as time went on, the game's fundamental balance issues became apparent, such as the game demanding more teamwork than a randomly matched squad could realistically utilize, poorly designed maps that gave huge advantages to certain sides, and of course [[MightyGlacier the "GOATS" meta]] that almost killed the competitive scene. Like many other players, Dunkey soon found himself not having fun with the game anymore as Creator/ActivisionBlizzard imposed progressively more restrictions on team comps rather than addressing the more fundamental design flaws. By the time ''Overwatch 2'' was announced, he's all but lost faith in the game, and both the beta and the official release have only solidified his distaste for how ''Overwatch'' isn't what it used to be.
* FelonyMisdemeanor: When reviewing ''VideoGame/YookaLaylee'', Dunkey touches base on the buzz surrounding the game's decision to remove WebVideo/JonTron's voice acting from the game on the basis of him making some controversial comments[[note]]These stemmed from [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RQA9GZprqM a livestreamed debate with Destiny]] where Jon shared some political opinions on topics such as immigration that some people [[{{Understatement}} weren't too happy with]].[[/note]]. Dunkey then notes that Jon was indeed foolish and stupid...to announce that he didn't like ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaBreathOfTheWild'' [[https://twitter.com/jontronshow/status/742832684225994753?lang=en on Twitter]].
* FollowTheLeader[[invoked]]: {{Parodied}} in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oK158ih4smY "Anthem Legends: Exodus,"]] a mock trailer for a bunch of fictional, highly cliched mashup-games including ''[[VideoGame/FarCry5 Far Cry]] [[VideoGame/MetroExodus Exodus]]'', ''[[VideoGame/Fallout76 Fallout]] [[VideoGame/FarCryNewDawn New Dawn]]'', ''VideoGame/Crackdown3: [[VideoGame/FarCryInstincts Instincts]]'', and ''VideoGame/{{Anthem}} [[VideoGame/ApexLegends Legends]]''. All or most of the games include ItemCrafting, "{{Creator/Ubisoft}} [[CrowsNestCartography Towers]]," survival gameplay with shoehorned RPGElements, and a [[AfterTheEnd post-apocalyptic]] setting with a [[LaResistance resistance group]] fighting a [[TheEmpire despotic regime]]. That's not even the entire list of TurnOfTheMillennium and [[TheNewTens New Tens]] trends he complains about.
** [[VideoGame/HorizonForbiddenWest "Horizon Forbidden Game"]] is perhaps even harsher about it, as he actively recommends people not to buy the game. Not because it's that bad, but because ''Franchise/AssassinsCreed''-inspired WideOpenSandbox games have become so oversaturated and formulaic, most of them start standing out by what they ''don't'' do as well as the rest, since everything they do well has already been done before. ''Horizon'' has it especially bad, as the series release dates keep making it [[DuelingWorks directly compete]] with some of the few actual standouts of the WideOpenSandbox genre.
--->'''Dunkey:''' ''VideoGame/HorizonZeroDawn'' will forever be known as "that open world game that came out three days before ''VideoGame/BreathOfTheWild''", and now ''VideoGame/HorizonForbiddenWest''... is "that open world game that came out a couple of days before ''VideoGame/EldenRing''".
* FormulaBreakingEpisode: Sometimes Dunkey will pivot away from video games and make a video that has nothing to do with anything, such as a muffin tier list or a video claiming that goblins are real.
* FourPointScale:
** Criticized heavily in his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG2dXobAXLI Game Critics]] video, along with other gripes he has with the industry.
** In "[[VideoGame/GoatSimulator Goat]][[EverythingsDeaderWithZombies Z]] [[VideoGame/GoatSimulator Simulator]]," Dunkey gets ''extremely'' angry when one of the judges gives his perfect goat dive a 9.
* FriendToAllChildren: The Fortnite Daycare series has Dunkey interacting with kids over ''VideoGame/{{Fortnite}}'' voice chat. Dunkey pokes fun at the kids and purposefully tries to push their buttons, but isn't dismissive or cruel to them unlike what you'd come to expect from [[ChildHater a lot of gamers]]. It's also even more HeartwarmingInHindsight knowing Dunkey is a father now.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tXKc_DrOXc "Did He Ryzed?"]] once the kids are locked outside, they become this. Towards the end, you can hear them say things like, [[BlackComedy "Is this a real gun?" followed by a gunshot]] and then another kid asking, "Did you died? Are you died?"
** In his Rust video, he and his friends deliberately ignore another player being attacked by wild animals to focus on breaking down a door. As they continue, the shadows of the player being chased by the animals goes back and forth across the door they were breaking while the snarling wolves could also be heard.
* GainaxEnding: Almost every other video has one.
** Even his song "I'm Going to Kill You" has one after all of its [[SerialEscalation quickly-escalating]] [[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill over-the-top murder fantasies.]]
--->It turns out the whole galaxy was inside of a dinosaur's eye
--->Then I go up behind the dinosaur and slit its throat
--->Shoot it in the head and then bring it back from the dead
--->And make you eat the brussels sprout
--->And then I will make you a millionaire
--->And then I will spend all your money on crack and die
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: Happens a lot, especially when he's reviewing a game.
** Parodied in his "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48nFaBC6mDg Die]]" video, where he juxtaposes impressive cutscenes next to the game's actual gameplay. And again in the [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin revealingly-named]] "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0zxlh63RtQ Trailer vs Gameplay]]".
* GeniusDitz: As ridiculous and hilariously fail-tastic as Dunkey is, he shows that he actually has a great ability to understand the ideas of what he loves and what makes them work, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tU1hnE6klVw such as his unusually calm and intelligent analysis of]] Film/TheShining.
* GenreBlindness: In his ''VideoGame/MortalKombat11'' video, Dunkey tries to classify which characters are good or evil by [[GoodColorsEvilColors their eye colors]]. The normal, heroic Raiden has [[InnocentBlueEyes blue eyes]], while the ruthless Dark Raiden has {{red eyes|take warning}}. He seems to be correct, until the blue-eyed villain Geras starts massacring soldiers, at which point Dunkey can only try to justify his flawed logic.
* TheGhost: Dunkey occasionally mentions Paulie, presumably an editor, whenever he wants a video to play.
* AGodAmI: At the end of "Final Boss", Dunkey calls himself "the recognized Messiah".
* GodwinsLaw: In his "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI4shM8NlR0 Escape from Hell]]" video, most of his team gets caught in the jungle, prompting Dunkey to complain, "My team is Hitler on four computers."
** In the sequel video, "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isVrIuraCs0 Escape from Gold]]," there is a player named [=SneakyAdolf=] who is farming minions during a team fight. Dunkey refers to the player as "the real Hitler."
* GratuitousJapanese:
** Parodied in his Garen video, which consists almost entirely of Japanese-sounding gibberish and phrases like "Puttemonapizza" and "[[CallingYourAttacks Banzai Blast]]".
** His video "The Japanese Difference" has both its title and description in Japanese. The title literally translates to "Differences in Japan", and the description translates to "Dong Dong's magical flute, I pet horse's !!!"
* {{Griefer}}: He's not above this behavior from time to time, especially if he can get away with friendly fire. His [[VideoGame/PAYDAYTheHeist Payday]] videos had him getting kicked from several pick-up groups he joined for team-killing as a RunningGag.
* HaveIMentionedIAmHeterosexualToday: Dunkey's Zac video has him insisting this after every [[invoked]]AccidentalInnuendo he says.
* HiddenDepths: Although he's known for goofy gaming videos, Dunkey has made numerous videos showing deeper sides of him.
** "Relaxing Space Safari" was one of his first noted videos to completely diverge from his normal style of content, instead being a slow-paced, contemplative montage of footage from underwater and outer space without any voiceover. The video's description even reads "Here's something different", and Dunkey's friend [=PaperBatVG=] left a comment on the video saying that it was in line with the thoughtfulness and creativity Dunkey was fully capable of outside of his regular videos.
--->I've known Jay for almost 7 years now, and this is just a part of him really. When he's not being a clown, he really is a smart and creative dude. This is just a way to let that side of him flow. This doesn't mean he's done creating gaming videos, he's just expressing and toying with his creative side. Dope video though :)
** This has been coming to the forefront lately with some of his film criticism videos. Dunkey made [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTBW6jbHgX0 a thoughtful but characteristically hilarious]] review of the 1967 French film ''Film/{{Playtime}}'' and referenced Bergman's ''Film/Persona1966'' for a quick gag. Overlaps with SophisticatedAsHell.
%%* HongKongDub: Parodied and invoked with "The Lion Book".
%%* HurricaneOfPuns: His [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA1pmsOGv40 Prop]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1x8br9H1Z4 Hunt]] videos.
* HypocriticalHumor:
** In his Beyond Two Souls video, he does a voice-over for the horse scene. The man who's taking care of the horse says that white people can't work horses and that they are weak from their lives of luxury. This same man is white himself.
** A street guitarist in the same video says that white people can't play trombone because they are weak. Guess what race he's from?
** In his E3 2023 video, Dunkey gives one of the developers of ''VideoGame/MarvelsSpiderMan2'' a lot of grief for (rhetorically) asking "Who is {{ComicBook/Venom}}?" Much later in the same video, he asks if Spider-Man wearing the Symbiote suit is supposed to be Venom.
* IAmNotShazam: InUniverse; Dunkey occasionally does this, such as referring to Cloud Strife as "Final Fantasy".
* IdiosyncraticEpisodeNaming: Most of Dunkey's League of Legends video names start with "Weo Weo"[[note]]pronounced "wee-yoo wee-yoo"[[/note]]. [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] with "Wuo Wuo Kong" and "Beo Beo Trungle".
* IdiosyncraticRatingsScale: In his "Dunkview" videos, he awards "dunk points" to games, though usually not in any seriousness whatsoever, and amazing games can be rated 0/5 (to date the only ''serious'' 0/5 game rating he's ever given has been ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsIII''), while lackluster ones (''VideoGame/{{Knack}} 2'' [[CatchPhrase baybeeeeeeee]]) can get 10/5 (for the graphics alone, even).
* IndyEscape:
** Inverted in "Dunk Souls", as it's ''him chasing the boulder''. Bonus points for Dunkey singing the ''Franchise/IndianaJones'' theme.
** Subverted with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCZdqYimZkg the sequel, "Skunk Souls"]], where the boulder rolls down a staircase hits Dunkey, causing him to fall through a nearby opening and onto another staircase, where the boulder runs him over again. And he was singing too.
%%* InherentlyFunnyWords: One of the things he does best.
* InsaneTrollLogic: Uses this tactic to figure out who really founds and owns Riot. [[spoiler:It was Singed this whole time.]]
* IResembleThatRemark: He gets louder and angrier when Website/{{Akinator}} passive-aggressively asks if the character has problems controlling their anger.[[note]]Dunkey's trying to get Akinator to guess videogamedunkey.[[/note]]
* JumpScare:
** The bit in his ''Spy Fox'' video where he suddenly screams '''"EEEEEEE---"'''.
** Whenever he screams "I'M BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN" in ''VideoGame/{{EarthBound|1994}}''.
** "Hitman Goes to the Book" has a suspenseful bit with no commentary where Agent 47 is hiding from someone, and then the video suddenly cuts to quickly zoom in on a picture of a squirrel with Dunkey shouting "HEYYYY!".
%%* KarmicDeath: The tides eventually turn on him in ''Dark Souls''.
%%* LargeHam: From time to time. Usually borders on NoIndoorVoice.
* JuniorCounterpart: Dunkey has yet to say what his daughter's name is, so fans have dubbed her "Dunkey Jr." as a placeholder.
* LaughingMad:
** Towards the end of ''Weo Weo Caitlyn'', he starts chuckling, and it devolves into insane laughter and him screaming "DIE!" over and over. The video then [[MoodWhiplash abruptly cuts]] to ''VideoGame/SuperMarioWorld'''s end credits.
** Dunkey is reduced to this after dying less than 10 seconds after spawning one too many times in the ''VideoGame/Battlefield1'' video.
** Dunkey also starts laughing hysterically at the end of the ''VideoGame/ShenmueIII'' video after [[spoiler:Ryo's long awaited confrontation with Lan Di turns out to be a HopelessBossFight and the game ends with ''yet another'' cliffhanger.]]
* LighterAndSofter: The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-YT_Ii9e_o third video]] in the "''Crappy Company'' trilogy" is much happier and more upbeat than the first two.
* LittleNo: How he perfectly summarizes ''VideoGame/Superman64'' in his 2-second dunkview of the game.
* LoadsAndLoadsOfLoading: In his attempt to "play" ''VideoGame/{{Runescape}}'', he is met with a relatively long loading screen. Then his email validation fails and he has to resend it, only to be unable to find any code when he gets the mail. So he tries to log in with his Facebook account, which takes an hour without getting out of "processing". [[RefugeInAudacity He then gives the game a]] [[BrokeTheRatingScale 10 out of 5]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes M-R]]
* MadLibsCatchPhrase: "So here I am [whatever inane activity Dunkey's doing at the moment]".
* MadnessMantra:
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npC_lOcWAnU BAKE ME A CAKE.]]
** At the end of ''Hell Jam'', he repeatedly says "VIDEO GAMES."
* MagicalNativeAmerican: "White people do not know how to work horses. They have become weak, like the water buffalo; weak from their lives of luxury."
** "They say no white man has opened wine for thousands of years."
** "The white man cannot play trombone. He has become weak, like the hawk, peeing on the horizon. CAW. CAW."
** "My tribe were an innocent people. We would send people on their way, and help them, giving them items. Until the Dark Times. The Machine Gun Men gunned them down, and killed me. Now I must have my revenge, and find my tribe."
** [''Dunkey's tribe is killed after making an unprovoked attack on some well-armed strangers''] "In a heartbeat, my peaceful tribe was gunned down, for no reason. [[BlatantLies We did nothing to nobody]]."
* MaleGaze:
** In Dunkey's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ln91ehUKSb4 10k-sub milestone video]] we get to see a lingering shot at two girls' boobs, plus Dunkey's [[DistractedByTheSexy mesmerized stare at them]].
** In one of his VideoGame/SaintsRowTheThird videos, when making his female character he strips her so that her pixelated breasts are visible, and he ends up trailing off with what he was saying.
** Surprisingly averted during his ''Dark Souls'' video. When he sees a pair of boobs covered by some GodivaHair, he actually says "Yuck!"
** Subverted during his ''Dark Souls 2'' video. When he sees a [[BuxomBeautyStandard buxom woman]], he says [[ComicallyMissingThePoint "Look how big her...clothes are!"]]
** In "Dunkey in Paris", he focuses his camera on his girlfriend Leahbee's butt for the line "Leah's got a nice rear", and then again for the line "meanwhile, look at Leah's butt".
* ManipulativeEditing: Uses this often when he's about to die, complete with him saying "CUT THE VIDEO!"
* MoodDissonance: The kids at Dunkey's [[AmusementParkOfDoom amusement park]] can be heard saying "Yay!" and "Whee!" as they're being run over by a rollercoaster and as they're swimming in a pool with [[StuffBlowingUp exploding carts]].
* MoodWhiplash: Instead of his usually quirky commentary, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koD8t93F1Co episode 20 of the Super Mario 64 playthrough]] has Dunkey bemoaning recent events in his life and sounding genuinely distressed at his situation for the entire ten minutes. Not only that, but the next episode was [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMZazO-P99o a sequel]].
** Given Dunkey's style of comedy, it's hard to tell if he's serious or not. Not that this has stopped the comment section from being flooded with well-wishing fans.
** In his ''VideoGame/MetalGearSurvive'' review: "''[normal]'' Everybody loves zombies! ''[dejected]'' [[VideoGame/TheWalkingDeadTelltale 8]] [[VideoGame/PlantsVersusZombies fucking]] [[VideoGame/TheLastOfUs years]] [[VideoGame/Left4Dead ago...]]"
* MookChivalry: Dunkey demonstrates in his ''VideoGame/TheSopranosRoadToRespect'' video [[CycleOfHurting why this trope is necessary.]]
* MsFanservice: Dunkey interprets a lot of female characters like this, and a notable example is Jodie from Videogame/BeyondTwoSouls. He is excited during the first ShowerScene but is let down when those pesky camera angles block his view.
* MurderBallad: "I'm Going to Kill You" is a [[ExaggeratedTrope VERY exaggerated]] version of this trope.
* MythArc: His ''VideoGame/MegaMan2'' LetsPlay series is this, starring him and [[BigBad his enemy]] Steinfeld.
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: The characters in his VideoGame/SaintsRowTheThird and VideoGame/SaintsRowIV gameplay videos are often naked if not scantily clad. This often paves the way to streaking sessions.
%%* NatureDocumentary: Parodied in his Olaf video.
%%* NerdGlasses: Dunkey's got a pair.
* NeverMyFault: Throughout his ''VideoGame/SuperMarioMaker2'' video, any death is accompanied by him explaining that he actually had a blindfold on. Or his brother was playing the game. Or he wasn't looking at the TV.
* NeverTrustATrailer:
** His video for ''VideoGame/GhostReconWildlands'' consists entirely of alternating between footage from the trailer (featuring a team acting like a legit special ops unit but with more banter, and definitely ''not'' like any players you've ever met) and Actual Gameplay Footage (featuring a bunch of goofballs constantly throwing grenades at each other, driving off cliffs, sniping the wrong targets, and laughing like maniacs all the way).
** ''Die'' keeps switching between overdramatic, pre-rendered cutscenes and their much less impressive gameplay counterparts, like ''VideoGame/Diablo3'', ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'', and of course ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends''. [[spoiler: Until [[VideoGame/BioShock the last one]], where the cutscene is mostly rendered with the game engine and the "gameplay" is the pipe-matching HackingMinigame. Which Dunkey seems to enjoy way more than any of the other games.]]
** "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0zxlh63RtQ
* NintendoHard: When he complains that ''Dark Souls'' is too easy, Dunkey brings up a more challenging game like ''[[VideoGame/GhostsNGoblins Ghouls and Goblins]]'', [[EveryoneHasStandards but decides to go back to Dark Souls]] after he dies in ''G&G''.
** His description of ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'' displays the game in this light.
* NoIndoorVoice: ''Dear god.''
** In the 32-second ''Weo Weo Weo'', Dunkey gradually gets louder and louder until he's yelling at the top of his lungs.
* NonIndicativeName: His ''Game of the Year'' videos are less about games that came out that year and more about games he played that year.
* NonSequitur: Sometimes his tendency of making things up on the spot makes you feel like you're watching LetsPlay/{{Raocow}}'s foul-mouthed, deadpan, [[BlatantLies blatantly lying]] brother.
* NothingIsScarier:
** "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weaK0WuNSyQ Night at the Museum]]" has Dunkey seemingly by himself in a dark, creepy museum. The terrifying music, the darkness, the gradual SanitySlippage, [[spoiler:the pure silence at the end...]]
** "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnqrYBPUmUk League of Legends: Conspiracy]]". A lot of the comments on that video are from people saying that they expected jumpscares, but the video's lack of them only made it creepier to watch.
* NWordPrivileges: In select older videos, Dunkey used the N-word for comedic effect while being white. Over time, he's gradually matured past that strain of edgy/offensive humor and doesn't use any language more offensive than "fuckass." This is even lampshaded in a ''VideoGame/MarioMaker'' video:
--> '''Level title:''' "beware of spiks"[[note]]The misspelling of "spikes" reads like "spics", with "spic" being an offensive slur used against Hispanics.[/note]
-->'''Dunkey:''' I'm not saying that.
* OhCrap: End of the ''VideoGame/ToyStory'' dunkview, after he dies and accidentally creates a save state on the GameOver screen (he was playing on an emulator).
-->"Goddamnit, [[ItMakesSenseInContext we ran out of batter]]--OH SHIT, I'M PLAYING ON A EMULATOR, AND IT SAVED...a game over! Where do I go? (back to title screen) [[BigNo NOOOOOOOO]]--"
* [[invoked]] OldShame: In ''Old Dunkey and {{VideoGame/Cuphead}}'', to make a point about determination and knowing how hard animation can be, he ends up digging up his oldest videos. Not the Let's Play ones on Youtube; crappy Flash animations made all the way back on 2003-2004 {{Platform/Newgrounds}}.
--> '''Dunkey''': If anyone still viewing this has the technology, I'm willing to go back in time and assassinate my own self before this was uploaded.
* OneHitKill: Dunkey brags about these in his ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'' videos, even though it's more than obvious that he just cut out most of the footage.
* OneWingedAngel: At the end of ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8EfMTiOtb0 Final Fantasy VII]]'', Sephiroth has one of these ''beyond'' his true final form, [[spoiler:[[ClippedWingAngel which doesn't even last against one]] [[SummonMagic Bahamut Zero summon]] from Dunkey]].

--> '''Dunkey!Cloud''': Dammit, Sephiroth! I shoulda known [[spoiler: you were frogs]]!
* OnlineAlias: When playing ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends'', he becomes "meatwadsprite".
* OnlyInFlorida: In "The Best Pizza From Every State", Silly Rick says that it doesn't say where the [[CordonBleughChef Rotissierie Chicken and Chocolate Style Pizza]] comes from, but that he just ''knows'' that it's from Florida.
%%* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Did you even know his name was Jason Gastrow until now?
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** His ''Crappy Company'' videos, where he completely diverts from his typical goofy nature and discusses/laments serious topics in his life.
** His Dunkviews of games that disappointed him, like ''Destiny'' or ''The Last of Us'', are more serious, straight forward reviews with much less of his trademark silliness.
** A general rule of thumb is that if the "more Dunkey" endcard is spelled correctly, he's being ''very'' serious.
** He later makes a point of it while discussing game reviews, saying that if a guy who hates turn-based JapaneseRPG and {{Animesque}} stuff gives bright praise to a game that's very much both (specifically, ''VideoGame/Persona5''), then the game is definitely doing something right. This comes up again later on in his glowing review of ''[[VideoGame/GuiltyGear Guilty Gear -Strive-]]''.
* OrphanedPunchline: At the start of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI4shM8NlR0 "Escape From Hell,"]] he says, "...That's why you don't see me stick my dick in a Chuck E. Cheese tofu dispenser."
* OverlyLongGag:
** From "Dunk's Top Ten Sports Games":
--->'''Dunkey:''' Number Eight!
--->(''ten seconds of silence'')
--->...C'mon!
** His entire "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1rgrDcPtBQ Bill Murray's Space Jam 10]]" video is this. Almost all the dialogue gets repeated many times over.
** His [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkJguTJ6Ysw Gex video]] is three minutes of logos.
* ParodyCommercial: There's one in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=SvoYY2lpETs Sneak Mouse]] for a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZid_dh_4YA Turkish donkey plush]] apparently named "[[MondegreenGag Dunkey]]". Dunkey's captioning of the Turkish speech is nothing short of hilarious.
* PetPeeveTrope:
** Dunkey mentions a couple of his in his video on game critics, and uses both examples to illustrate why he doesn't like most [=JRPGs=] and why it's unusual that he actually enjoys ''VideoGame/Persona5''.
** He can't stand most anime and {{Animesque}} works, as well as [[{{Fanservice}} certain]] tropes that go with it, as shown with his video on ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles2''.
--->'''Dunkey:''' Unless we're talking [[Creator/HayaoMiyazaki this guy]], you best get this bullshit outta my face.
** TurnBasedCombat: He finds most examples of this to be simply tedious and not fun, with only a [[VideoGame/{{Undertale}} few]] [[VideoGame/PaperMario exceptions]]. His disdain for this style is brought up again while reviewing ''VideoGame/OctopathTraveler''.
* PowerupLetdown: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX5rs0jjkw8 his video]] on VideoGame/BalanWonderworld makes a point of showing how every single outfit's power is useless, underwhelming, or redundant.
* PrankCall: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZOlNmGRuDQ He]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_mdCi9fHxw does]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3W7LztCEpA4 these]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECQKwvEoD8o every once]][[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6r5sMN_QGQs in a]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6klZ4JF7K4 while]].
* PrecisionFStrike:
** Near the end of the Olaf video, which was devoid of swears up to that point, when [[spoiler:he loses to Kennen in a duel.]]
--->[[spoiler:'''Dunkey:''' (in calm English accent) And that is why Kennen is considered [[SophisticatedAsHell The Fucking Filthy Whore of League of Legends]].]]
** Played straight at the end of G-Rated Lissandra.
--->'''Dunkey''': [[CatchPhrase Not even close baby]], you know this is the classic saying, you can't FUCK MY DICK OFF!
* ProductPlacement: Dunkey manages to do this with himself in one video.
-->'''Dunkey:''' After an (insert anything that just happened) like that, I could really go for a Website/YouTube video. Let's all go to youtube dot com slash videogamedunkey.
* {{Pun}}:
** When talking about Michael from ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoV'' while he rides a motorcycle through a beach, a caption appears saying "more like Bike-el".
** When his VideoGame/DarkSouls character gets killed by spiked wheels, Dunkey complains, "These guys are a wheel pain in my ass!"
** When talking about ''VideoGame/HalfLife2'', Dunkey says that the game floored him such that he fell through the floor to hell. Afterwards, he said, "That's one hell of a game."
* ReferenceOverdosed: Dunkey needed [[ShoutOut/VideoGameDunkey that separate shout-out page]].
%%* RefugeInAudacity: Boy howdy.
* RenaissanceMan: He's not just a gamer; he's a [[https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB6J-xs9XhwBajQwy79xrfXD17BBM1exH rapper]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82VJxcEF2Lw exercise trainer]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EX9aDLjKYww nature]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaXmOkRIpzI enthusiast]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybZ9PVcf6X8 philosopher]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgSSql6MAKo street dancer]], [[https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIJd3yOiQhmLSLEhsB-Za7pMpJMJvG0lv prank caller]], and a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfO1XhRob3c karaoke star]]. [[https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3xWZb3uECjqY-Zzf5c-hy0EUymBVeUPu He's also]] [[Franchise/StarWars Admiral Ackbar]].
* RunningGag:
** Dunkey sure loves Music/SmashMouth.
** It might have something to do with his obsession with Franchise/{{Shrek}}.
** While playing Saints Row or GTA, he'll probably drive his car into the ocean. There's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcN7RP723eM a whole video]] featuring just this.
** ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry'' shows up a lot.
** He has a habit of spacing colons and question marks as seen in most of his video titles, including every ''League of Legends'' video he's made.
** A lot of his ''[=LoL=]'' videos are set to a chiptune version of a song.
** He talks about horses a lot, usually in raps.
** A ''lot'' of the games he reviews end up getting a 0 out of 5, even if they have received critical acclaim and are perfectly good and functioning games.
*** Inversely, he gives ''Runescape'' a 10 out of 5, [[ItMakesSenseInContext even though he barely got to play the game]].
** When it comes time for Dunkey to do his countdown of the best games of the year, number one is always ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros2''.
** Whenever Dunkey is climbing a ladder, a snippit of the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CbFAZ2ztlE theme]] to ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid3SnakeEater'' plays.
** "KNACK 2, BAYBEEE!"
** After "I'm Done With ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends''", variants of "I'm done makin' ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends'' videos" tend to crop up.
** Random mentions of Creator/DonCheadle
** The Harlem Globetrotters theme song, most common in videos involving ''VideoGame/CallOfDuty'' and similar games
* RhymesOnADime: Even if he has to make up words.
** Case in point, "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYG8almTvJo Kanye Quest]]".
** Also, "I'm Going to Kill You" off of his album.
* RuleOfFunny: Basically why some of his videos showing him screwing around or doing extremely counterproductive things in video games. He mentions it in his [[http://youtu.be/UNObFaK5fTM?t=47s GTA Online]] video.
-->''Suspect has left the vehicle, I will pursue him in my yellow Bumblebee car and [[CarFu run him over]], because that's funny.''
* RuleOfSeven: More than one instance of this is prevalent.
** In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1PAAxVVw0A one of his videos starring Admiral Ackbar]], he explains to [[Series/TheFreshPrinceOfBelAir Uncle Paul]] that there are seven pool rules:
*** 1. [[DeniedFoodAsPunishment No food, no drinks]]
*** 2. [[NoTalkingOrPhonesWarning No talking]]
*** 3. [[{{Irony}} No splashing]]
*** 4. [[{{Irony}} No swimming]]
*** 5. [[PrecisionFStrike Shut the fuck up]]
*** 6. [[ClusterFBomb Fuck you]]
*** 7. [[ClusterFBomb Shut the hell up]]
** In one of Dunkey's reviews, he assumes a detractor would point out that he doesn't like any games. He disproves this by proclaiming that there are "seven" good games. As of his Vice City entry, he's identified one of those seven good games.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes S-Z]]
* SchmuckBait: A veritable master of this. At least once per [=LoL=] video he can be seen ''very'' narrowly escaping death by baiting a fight that looks suicidal for him, only to turn it around onto his opponent. Of course, expect his {{catchphrase}} after really close encounters.
%%* SelfDeprecation: A lot of it.
-->''When you listen to my music your Momma's like "what the fuck" / if you read my shitty lyrics then you know my lyrics suck''
* ShaggyDogStory: "Dunkey's Guide to Streaming Services" begins with Dunkey trying to find out how to watch the movie ''Film/KingKongVsGodzilla'' by browsing the vast web of different streaming services, going completely off-topic on many unrelated movies and television shows, showing the extreme difficulty in trying to watch a complete franchise of anything, and ending it by stating that the movie is not available on any streaming service (you have to purchase a physical UsefulNotes/BluRay).
* ShamelessSelfPromoter: His [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5lGCSx3K4o Promotional Campaign]] video in which he advertises his Website/YouTube channel on ''VideoGame/CounterStrike'' servers.
* ShapedLikeItself: "If you read my shitty lyrics, then you know my lyrics suck" from the song "I'm Going to Kill You".
* ShoutOut: [[ShoutOut/VideoGameDunkey Now with its own page.]]
%%* SmashCut: He frequently cuts himself off with these.
* SoBadItWasBetter:[[invoked]] He claims to have enjoyed earlier, badly flawed entries in the battle royale genre, such as ''VideoGame/PlayerUnknownsBattlegrounds'' or ''[=H1Z1=]'', more than the more polished ones like ''VideoGame/{{Fortnite}}'' or ''VideoGame/ApexLegends''. In his view, the most fun part of battle royales was the crazy people you ran into when you turned on proximity voicechat, giving them a ramshackle and chaotic feeling that formed an environment rife for griefing. Without that feeling, "the magic was completely gone."
* SophisticatedAsHell: One episode has him reading Tribunal cases, full of vulgarity and poor grammar, as professionally as he could. In general, he has a tendency to suddenly interrupt complex sentences with screaming obscenities, or other such things.
* SoundEffectBleep[=/=]ClusterBleepBomb: [[ParodiedTrope Parodied]] in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrIpl40nwqY F-Word Fizz]], where he replaces swears with this and euphemisms like "f-word" to intentionally ineffective degrees, sometimes even [[InvertedTrope replacing only]] [[BleepDammit non-swears with bleeps.]]
-->''SOMEBODY GET THIS FUCKIN' [BLEEP] DICKNIP [BLEEP] SHIT [BLEEP]'' '''COCKSUCKER!'''
* SpiritualSuccessor[[invoked]]: He ends up concluding ''VideoGame/TheLastGuardian'' is obviously a sequel to ''VideoGame/HeyYouPikachu'', as both are all about desperately trying to get an ''extremely'' unresponsive critter to do things for you.
* SpoofedWithTheirOwnWords:
** His "''Franchise/KingdomHearts'' Explained" video had many people remarking in the comments that the hardest part was figuring out what was a silly joke and what was the actual plot. At one point, he simply shows a clip from ''Back Cover'' where the Master of Masters delivers some particularly incoherent exposition.
--->'''Master:''' You need to pass it down to your apprentice, and then him to his, so that my eye can see the future.
--->'''Dunkey:''' See, now it all makes sense.
** He did a similar video on ''VideoGame/MetalGear'', this time with even fewer jokes or fabrications.
** In his video on ''VideoGame/{{Gex}}'', he decided to parody Gex's repetitive one-liners along the lines of "[situation] is like [event] at [1990s celebrity]'s house!" by mumbling "This is like taco night at Creator/JamesEarlJones's house!" Moments later, Gex proceeds to say "Haven't seen blasts this bad since taco night at James Earl Jones's house!"
* StealthPun:
** Dunkey's ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosU'' video was called "Wii U Wii U Mario". If you're not one of Dunkey's fans (or if you don't watch his ''League'' videos), you wouldn't get it. See IdiosyncraticEpisodeNaming for an explanation.
** When the Website/{{Akinator}} asks him if his character[[note]]himself[[/note]] is dirty, we see Dunkey Googling "hot asian pussy", and then it cuts to him scrolling through a gallery of cats.
** ''Urf Rap'' is full of them.
* StrangeMindsThinkAlike: At the end of his second GTA Online video Dunkey tries to fly a jet through a tunnel to see if it can interfere with the radio signal (which was playing nothing but Music/BackstreetBoys music) he is both shocked and annoyed to find another player in a jet doing the same thing in the same tunnel leading to a head-on collision.
-->'''Dunkey:''' Why the fuck are there other planes in here?!
* StylisticSuck: Present to some degree in all his videos (his voice and speaking style, if nothing else), but especially in some of the weirder ones, such as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLUaycJFjWA "This is a Chicken Wing"]] in which he "raps" by displaying a series of random images and [[OverlyLongGag saying "This is a [noun]" for each one.]]
** A common way Dunkey mines humour from games, by using a single broken attack for the entire video. One example, in his ''VideoGame/{{Deathloop}}'' he doesn't use the guns at all, preferring to use the melee kick attack for everything.
* SubbingVersusDubbing[[invoked]]: [[DiscussedTrope Discussed]] in "Video Game Acting". He admits that the people affirming that Japanese games sound less ridiculous if played with Japanese voices over the often-terrible English dubs probably have a point... but come on, there's [[SillinessSwitch a button that makes the game instantly hilarious]] and they expect him to ''not'' use it?
* SuicideAsComedy: A lot of it.
** In his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UO7OrHtmtqg "Morose Mordekaiser"]] video, he comes up with increasingly more bizarre and convoluted suicide methods he will inflict upon himself if the play he's going for doesn't work. The most surreal one?
--->'''Dunkey''': Oh boy. If I die here, I'm gonna build two life-size animatronic T-rexes [[LudicrousGibs to rip me apart limb from limb]] while a team of NAVY Seals [[MoreDakka guns me down with a barrage of M16 assault rifles]] onstage during a [[Music/JustinBieber Justin Beaver]] concert, and engraved on my tombstone, it'll say, "OH BOY I'M DEAD".
* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: On at least two occasions, someone he's prank calling realizes who he is since he's a popular internet personality that doesn't bother disguising his very distinct voice, and turns the tables on him.
* SurrealHorror: After a series of hilarious ''League of Legends'' videos, Dunkey [[MoodWhiplash suddenly]] comes out with an incredibly creepy video with tons of random, disturbing imagery. Want to watch it? Click [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4O4SRcNBGp8 here]]. [[ShmuckBait Have fun.]]
%%* SurrealHumor: Obviously what he does best.
* TakeThat:
** In his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MX1yuO5IZuw Team Fortress 2 video]] Dunkey says, "What's wrong with the graphics? Are we playing [[VideoGame/TeamFortressClassic Team Fortress Classic]]?"
** The video "Behind the Dunk" is a parody of the video style of another [=YouTuber=] named [=TechFlamer=].
** In his Game Dev Tycoon video, he literally makes VideoGame/CallOfDuty. The game turns out to be [[{{Irony}} a big failure]].
** After he acclaims ''GTA V'' for 3 minutes, [[spoiler:he gives the game a 0 out of 5]].
** After a deep analysis of VideoGame/{{Titanfall}} (not scathing, not praising), [[spoiler:he gives the game a 0 out of 5]].
** After Leah talks about how much she doesn't like Papa John's pizza in his ''VideoGame/RocketLeague'' video, Dunkey hits several pizza chains at once.
--->'''Dyrus''': Better ingredients...
--->'''Dunkey''': ...better people, Papa John's, exactly! Better pepperoni, better crust, Pizza Hut. Better Wing Street, better soda, Domino's. Better... *beat* Little Caesar's. Don't even cook the pizza, don't even deliver the pizza, Papa Murphy's.
** The entire second half of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyWwRivr1wE Final Boss]] is a rapid-fire slam against a bunch of popular League youtubers.
*** ''That'' video? That was him being '''kind'''. He shows no mercy in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7onpZl0tayA "Serious Girl Gamers"]].
*** A follow-up vid, titled [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6n83K-cHHg4 "YouTubers"]], took a shot at [=UberDanger=]'s failed pick-up artistry.
** In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqlaOYn2akQ "Earthbound (Ep. 4): Antler"]], he states that Microsoft is run by ants.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeHjN4oWVfk "Microsoft Sucks"]] is rather self-evident, but he also takes shots at {{Machinima}} and Maker Studios as well.
** In his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ojo7sRcGFlY Youtuber tier list]], he puts Creator/DougWalker in the [[Anime/YuGiOh Shadow Realm.]]
** The "bad videos" he made after [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZzZKuQUguk "I'm Done Making Good Videos"]] are jabs at the tactics used by more successful [=YouTubers=] to gain more views. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3TzXvcFy1o One]] even features a jab at the people who watch these more successful videos at the beginning: "What is up, little babies that watch ''Minecraaaaaaaft''?"
** In his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCgYKW-UPYc Best of 2021]] video, he praises ''VideoGame/DragonQuestXI'', and says it takes him back to a time when [=RPGs=] weren't "embarrassing cash-grabs for weirdos", and then silently cutting to the box art for ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles2''.
** In [[https://youtu.be/z3DTWBVJBpo Revisiting the Last of Us]] he discusses the famous quote by "Neil Drunkman”, "Simple story, complex characters." Dunkey remarks "This is the complete opposite approach of ''Franchise/KingdomHearts''."
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvhv7bgmz64 Dunkey's Guide to Streaming Services]] takes the complete piss out of the oversaturation of streaming services in the early 2020s, including how there are numerous movie series whose movies/TV shows whose seasons are split across various services.
* TeamKiller: A RunningGag in his Half Life video is a character saying they have a message for dunkey, only for dunkey to shoot them and say "And now we'll never know what that message was".
* TemptingFate:
** Near the end of the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3rwO0ndPKw "Um Jammer Lamma" video]].
** Also happens in ''Final Fantasy VII''. He keeps daring the Battle Square slots to give him a harder challenge, [[spoiler: and then he faces a frog. SmashCut to a game over screen.]]
** Shortly after taking over as IKON Leader, he comments that IKON doesn't take losers who score on their own goal. He then scores on his own goal.
%%* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: "I'm Going to Kill You" off of Dunkey's album.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: InUniverse. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGo0ZNfsgHo Peach's Sham Castle]] consists of Dunkey and some of his friends looking at ''VideoGame/GarrysMod'' maps based on Peach's Castle in ''VideoGame/SuperMario64'' as well as [[WesternAnimation/SpongebobSquarepants the Krusty Krab]], complaining about the inaccuracies from their respective source materials.
* TrainingMontage: Dunkey makes one for Jodie in his Beyond Two Souls video.
* UnstoppableRage: In "[=GoatZ=] Simulator" after his perfect goat dive gets a ''9''. He spends the rest of the video unleashing his anger in extreme amounts of insane retribution.
* UnusualEuphemism: Every other word out of Dunkey's mouth. For reference, "Put 'em in the pizza" is about as normal as they get.
* VideoGameCrueltyPotential: Let's just say that he exploits this fully for humor's sake, ranging in cruelty factor from screwing with random [[{{NPC}} NPC's]] to slaughtering them en masse.
** Any video featuring a simulator game will usually start off with him playing the game normally or even taking it seriously before he invariably does things like unleash zoo animals onto a theme park's population or summon several natural disasters to wreck his city.
%%* VitriolicBestBuds: With [=PaperBats=].
* VocalDissonance: Is often mistaken for being African-American due to his voice, which has now become a running joke amongst his viewers.
* WhamLine:
** From [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_oEB0qf7Hg Dunkey's Best of 2015]]: [[spoiler:[[TheStinger PSYCHE!]] Number one is ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros2''!]]
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atCA7JWOi_0 ROBLOX]]:
--->'''Leah''': That cost fifty dollars, what you just did there...
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhoQ96DVL4M Revisiting Uncharted 4]]:
--->'''Dunkey:''' This ending, man... Dude, this is the most fulfilling, joyous ending I have ever experienced in a videogame, and it's one that takes on a whole new context for me now that me and Leah are having our own daughter, because this was actually a baby video the whole time, ''we having a baby, everybody!''
* WhoWritesThisCrap: Dunkey asks this of Riku's dialogue in his ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'' video.
* WordSaladLyrics: Pick a song of his, any song.
** Most likely overlapped with RhymesOnADime.
** The Aladdin musical number of "Animal World Soccer" has this as a result of Dunkey trying to lipread the song's nonsense.
* WorfHadTheFlu: PlayedForLaughs in his ''VideoGame/SuperMarioMaker2'' videos, which make a RunningGag out of his insistence that he isn't at his best for whatever reason: has a blindfold on, brother grabbed the controller, not looking at the TV...
* YouKeepUsingThatWord: He calls attention to the announcer from Rocket League's basketball mode, which calls every goal a [[LargeHam "Slaaaaaaaaaaaaam dunk!"]]
-->"NOT EVERY MOVE IS A SLAM DUNK!"
* YoungFutureFamousPeople: We get to see a picture of a young Dunkey and his mom in his ''VideoGame/HalfLife2'' dunkview.
