Lewis Brindley is the co-founder of the LetsPlay/{{Yogscast}}, and known for co-op LetsPlay series of numerous games, including ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'', ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'' and competitive ''VideoGame/GarrysMod'', to which he frequently pairs up with LetsPlay/SimonLane. The long-suffering de facto boss of the Yogscast, Lewis also hosts the podcast ''Podcast/TheYoGPoD'' with Simon. Aside from the content on his own channel, he appears regularly on LetsPlay/{{Sjin}}'s channel for ''Sjin's Farm'', as well as on LetsPlay/{{Sips}}' channel for ''[=DirtQuest=]'', ''VideoGame/TroubleInTerroristTown'' and ''VideoGame/TheHiddenSource''.

The more cautious out of him and Simon at games, but often no less silly and bizarre in his commentary.

He roleplays the "spaceman" Xephos in various ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'' series, notably ''[[WebVideo/YogscastMinecraftSeries Shadow of Israphel]]'', and acts as a kind of amoral VillainProtagonist mad scientist in ''Yog Labs''.

His Website/YouTube channel (shared with Simon) can be found [[https://www.youtube.com/user/BlueXephos here]]. He shares a channel with Sips [[https://www.youtube.com/user/teamdoubledragon here]].

He was in a long term relationship with LetsPlay/HannahRutherford (and was even living with her at one point), but in early 2015 the relationship ended (although the two are still good friends).

!! Series featuring Lewis:

* ''Podcast/TheYoGPoD''
* ''WebVideo/YogscastMinecraftSeries''
* ''LetsPlay/{{Yogscast}} VideoGame/GarrysMod Series''

!!Lewis Brindley provides examples of:
* AffablyEvil: In ''Yog Labs''. In real life, you can drop the evil part.
* AlcoholInducedIdiocy: The Yogs have a reputation for this quite often, but Lewis certainly isn't immune:
** Along with Simon, he once got so blasted that they deliberately contemplated calling Sips late at night (they relented as they didn't want to wake his kid up), and ignored Hannah's attempts to get them to pack it in.
** One part of the Dwarven Dairy Drive in 2013 saw him play a Minecraft mod and get increasingly blatant with his cheating as he got progressively more hammered.
** A 2015 ''Civ'' game saw him get so wasted that the gang had to get him home and then do something else for the livestream. Lewis admitted this was something he was particularly embarrassed about.
* {{Angrish}}: When he's irritated, Lewis can occasionally stop speaking eloquently and shout things along the lines of "can you do not have any memory at all".
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Usually when he's playing ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}''.
--> '''Lewis:''' (after just discovering that there was a tunnel from Israphel's lair to his and Simon's portal) Oh my God! ''A sheep just fell from the sky as well,'' but this is our portal!
* AxCrazy:
** His ''Yog Labs'' persona seems to have gone completely off the deep end.
** He's little better in ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoV''. While attacking and murdering other players is fairly common in multiplayer, Lewis goes out of his way to do so and almost takes sadistic pleasure from it.
* BadBoss:
** In ''Yoglabs'', Lewis indirectly causes the government to attack his employees by blowing the organisation's budget on [=BMWs=], and at one point orders the torture of Doctor Testificate M.D. for refusing to renew his combat licence- this is after Lewis ''failed a combat examination he needed to renew it''. This is a ZigZaggedTrope with Simon; on the one hand, Simon is the test subject for most of the more dangerous mods, but on the other hand he seems to treat Simon with genuine affection, being heartbroken when [[spoiler:Simon has to essentially sacrifice himself by freezing himself to replace the master copy, thus ensuring that he can continue existence at the cost of his memories]].
** Outside of Yoglabs, he enjoys playing this image up, lightheartedly snapping "Shut Up" at the other Yogs, taking a bit too much enjoyment in their in-game misfortunes, and so on. It helps that he's achieved InUniverse MemeticPsychopath status, supposedly being the secret identity of the alleged serial killer "The Bristol Pusher".
* BerserkButton:
** He can sometimes go into a rant when he's particularly fed up of a certain religious aspect. LetsPlay/SimonLane [[NotSoDifferentRemark calls him out on this]] from time to time.
** Repeatedly [=RDMing=] appears to be something of one for ''VideoGame/GarrysMod'' and ''VideoGame/TroubleInTerroristTown''. After Turps does it continuously, Lewis resolves to murder him the next round regardless as to whether or not either of them are traitors (they're both innocent) and makes good on his threat.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Tends to happen when he's particularly tired. In some instances, he starts ranting with pretty much no reason, simply because so much has gone wrong.
* BuffySpeak: He indulges in this frequently, to the point that the fandom has a whole subreddit devoted to this.
* CatchPhrase:
** Hello, and ''welcome''...to the Yogscast!
** Calling Simon or an NPC "friend".
** The "hup" sound he makes when doing a jumping puzzle. And sometimes just while jumping in general.
** The thing is... (It got to the point where he actually ended up with compilations of this played on ''Podcast/TheYoGPoD''.)
** Oh God Simon, [[MadLibsCatchPhrase X]]?
** /give honeydew 46 1
** This is looking a bit dodgy...
** [[MoralityChain Simon...]]
** Balls to it!
** It's good, isn't it?
** [But] don't worry about that.
** [[BigShutUp SHUT UP]]
* TheChessmaster: In ''Civilization V''. Everyone else just dances on his fingertips. To date, out of the many seasons they have done, Lewis has won most of them, and any losses have been very narrow.
** Of late this has been less true, though even when he just isn't trying and/or getting blind-drunk on livestream he is still a tough opponent.
* CloudCuckoolander: To a lesser extent than Simon, but one must wonder how he comes up with some frankly ''weird'' sentences and thoughts. There is now a subreddit entitled "[=/r/shitlewissays=]", which is devoted to his weird efforts.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Occasionally, though usually not to a large extent. For example, during the ''WebVideo/JaffaFactory'' series, LetsPlay/SimonLane asks why Lewis has two stone axes. Lewis replies by saying he doesn't; he has two ''iron'' axes.
* CreepyChild: He does a really good impression of one during the second Halloween special of ''Podcast/TheYoGPoD''.
* {{Crossover}}:
** He and Duncan appeared alongside LetsPlay/CaptainSparklez and LetsPlay/LittleLizardGaming in the Polaris ''Tomorrowland'' series.
** He and Simon have appeared in Hat Films' ''Filfy Animals'' as creepers, as well as in the Minecon 2011 trailer.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: At gaming in general, though he's more competent than Simon. Best shown in ''VideoGame/{{Civilization}} V'', where everyone gets curbstomped by him and his win-loss ratio is very good.
* CurbStompBattle: [[spoiler:After investing enough points in technology in ''VideoGame/{{Civilization}} V: Brave New World'', he nukes LetsPlay/{{Rythian}} which cripples him even further, starts attacking the already failing LetsPlay/DuncanJones, begins to destroy LetsPlay/{{Sjin}} and starts giving LetsPlay/{{Sips}} a hard time]]. Even if Sips managed to delay him, Lewis was the obvious victor of the game.
* DemonicPossession: Lewis falls victim to this in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeoGFYELr-Y#t=549 the final episode of TTT Season 2]], when [[ItMakesSenseInContext he goes crazy and begins shouting for everyone to die and eat shit]]. Sjin immediately jokes that [[LetsPlay/HatFilms Ross]] is responsible.
* {{Determinator}}: There's no denying that the man can work extremely hard when there's a lot of pressure, be it powering his way through several days worth of livestreams while hungover or ill, or working to keep the main channel up in Simon's absence.
* DisproportionateRetribution: After LetsPlay/{{Turpster}} commits one RDM too many in ''VideoGame/TroubleInTerroristTown'', Lewis resolves to murder him in the next round regardless as to whether or not either of them is actually a traitor. Upon finding him and making good on his word, he actively embraces this trope and guns down two more people that suspected him of being a traitor (one of whom was doing it to deflect suspicion away from himself), in the process being picked off by the real deal.
* TheDreaded: In ''VideoGame/{{Civilization}} V'', everybody learns to fear him, since Lewis is frighteningly competent. It gets to the point where he can scare most of the players into submission just based on his past record.
* DrunkOnTheDarkSide: When he's the Murderer in ''[[VideoGame/GarrysMod Mur]][[VideoGame/{{Murder}} der]]'', he will occasionally fall into this. He fully embraces it in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeoGFYELr-Y#t=549 this video]] with a hammy rant.
* EpicFail:
** ZigZaggedTrope in ''WebVideo/MoonQuest''. [[spoiler:His effort to land on the moon resulted in him suffocating since he forgot his oxygen gear and just died. On the other hand, he did actually land the rocket properly, unlike LetsPlay/DuncanJones and LetsPlay/SimonLane who both crashed and exploded]].
** Earlier in ''WebVideo/MoonQuest'', he indirectly causes Duncan's death by [[spoiler:giving him misinformation as to how to land the rocket on the moon]], causing Duncan to then die repeatedly when he may well have lived.
** In the ''TTT'' episode [[https://youtu.be/HRKe8RsgCfI?t=468 "White House Down"]], he sets a precedent for perhaps one of the ''worst'' rounds of the game in the company's history. He ends up shooting the innocent Ben for more or less no reason, kills Ross even though he'd already killed Smith (a traitor that round), picks up the [[SuicideAttack "jihad bomb"]] that Ross had looted from Smith and tries using it on the treacherous Trott... and completely misses him, ''killing the detective'' as well as himself. Everyone chews him out for his mistake, and the game gives him the following "award" to lampshade his stupidity.
--> '''KARMA CONSCIOUS'''. Lewis didn't stop after killing two of their teammates. Three is their lucky number.
* EvilGenius: In ''Yog Labs''.
* FaceHeelTurn: In one round of ''TTT'', he decides to use his detective powers to resurrect a confirmed traitor and declares he's "switched sides". Everyone else is less than thrilled with this.
* FakeGuestStar: Despite appearing regularly in LetsPlay/{{Sips}}' ''VideoGame/TroubleInTerroristTown'' series from June 2014 onwards, he was listed as "a special guest" in every episode until August 2014. This is probably down to Sips copying and pasting the same description even after Lewis joined.
* FatAndSkinny: The skinny to LetsPlay/SimonLane's fat.
* GenreSavvy: Sometimes, sometimes not. Certainly more often than IdiotHero LetsPlay/SimonLane.
* GoneHorriblyWrong: [[spoiler:His effort to use the Stargate Portal]] in YogLabs gets many staff members killed, and he almost gets killed along with Herp and LetsPlay/SimonLane. He ends up destroying the portal to stop the same thing happening again.
* GrammarNazi: Towards ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'' map writers. Also referred to as Grammar [[UsefulNotes/AdolfHitler Hitler]] and Grandma Hitler by LetsPlay/SimonLane.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Fell into this in the ''WebVideo/MoonQuest'' series, upon realising just how little he, LetsPlay/SimonLane and LetsPlay/DuncanJones were achieving.
* HeroicBSOD: After one too many [[invoked]] ObviousBeta simulation games in "Trucking Tuesdays", Luis breaks down laughing and crying [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBYPFCIwxMg over a ridiculous glitch]] in ''Garbage Truck Simulator''.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Simon. Also with Sips due to their chemistry and constant interaction.
* TheHyena: There are occasions where he starts ''crying'' from laughter.
* HypocriticalHumour: After Turps commits RDM one time too many and Lewis settles the score the next round, he then guns down at least two more people that suspected him of being the traitor. One of them was innocent, so Lewis basically committed friendly fire; on top of that, one was a traitor, meaning Lewis committed RDM as well.
-->'''Smiffy:''' That is the worst case of RDM I have ever seen.
* IdiotHero: While not as bad as LetsPlay/SimonLane, he does have his moments.
* INeedAFreakingDrink: Upon LetsPlay/DuncanJones and LetsPlay/{{Sjin}}'s utter failures in ''VideoGame/FarmingSimulator'' during the 2012 Honey Drive, Lewis storms off... and returns with a bottle of vodka, which he gradually sips, shouting at Duncan all the while.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Though he generally means well, there are some times that Lewis's internal filter stops working and he'll say something inadvertently insulting or just plain bizarre. The others generally take it in good humour.
* KleptomaniacHero: In games, mainly because he's NotSoAboveItAll.
* MadScientist:
** Dabbles in this during his Mod Spotlight of the Apothecarium and Uranium mods... which he installed and showcased in the same world. Picture Lewis running away from a giant slime and a mutant slime he created by fleeing to Verigan's Hold from ''[[WebVideo/YogscastMinecraftSeries Shadow of Israphel]]'', with ''nuclear reactors'' held inside, by going through a giant hole blown open by a nuclear explosion. Right after he had thrown a bunch of potions at some friendly dogs that belonged to someone else and set them on fire. Lampshaded by Simon.
** In ''Yog Labs'', he's also quite bad, approving the most bizarre and dangerous projects, such as the capture of basilisks, use of world-eating bacteria, careless use of high-tech weaponry, the list goes on... all ForScience. Typically, this ends rather badly and Simon has to clean up the mess.
* MoralityChain: Sometimes acts this way to LetsPlay/SimonLane.
* MoralityPet: Played with in ''Yog Labs''. Simon often finds himself at the mercy of Lewis' bizarre mod experiments, but Lewis does genuinely seem to care for him in spite of this.
* MoralEventHorizon: InUniverse, Simon views his [[spoiler:ordering Simon to destroy a testificate village and keeping a group of mentally ill commandos hostage]] as the point where Lewis has gone too far in ''Yoglabs''. [[spoiler:Since clone #0028 dies in the process of trying to free the hostages, clone #0029 does not remember this.]]
* NotMeThisTime: After being the traitor twice in a row (being [=RDMed=] by Turps the second time), Lewis has had enough and ruthlessly guns Turps down, declaring his intention to do so beforehand. In the ensuing chaos he protests his innocence (which is true), but [[NotHelpingYourCase doesn't help himself by gunning down the detective, Sips (in self-defence) and then Trott, who actually was the traitor unbeknownst to him]].
* NotSoAboveItAll:
** Lewis initially came across as the OnlySaneMan of the group, back in the days when there were fewer members and he was the most competent. Since then, the antics of the others seem to have rubbed off on him, as he now cheats more often, trolls his other teammates, and ends up SuddenlyShouting with no provocation.
** While Lewis is mostly okay with regards to RDM and Turps does it considerably more than the others, he's done it a few times himself. He ended up noticeably snapping and ended up killing Turps, Sips (the detective and a proven innocent, partly in self defence) and Trott (who was the traitor but Lewis didn't know that).
* OnlySaneMan: During the ''VideoGame/{{Magicka}}'' and ''VideoGame/{{Trine}} 2'' {{Lets Play}}s, he is this compared to [[Creator/TheCynicalBrit TotalBiscuit]] and LetsPlay/SimonLane. He was this back in the day moreso, but has since thrown the SanityBall to the other guys, and is now as absurd as the others.
* OverlyNarrowSuperlative: Describes ''Wolf Quest'' as "the most detailed dog customisation creator I've ever seen outside of fantasy [=RPGs=]".
* PowerTrio:
** Typically has this dynamic with Simon and Duncan, mostly in ''Minecraft''.
** Due to Simon's absence for a large chunk of 2015, Lewis partnered with Sjin and Duncan for content such as ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoV''.
** For Sips' ''[=DirtQuest=]'', he joins up with Turps and Sips to build a new dirt factory.
* RedOniBlueOni:
** Lewis is the Blue Oni to Simon's Red Oni, being comparatively more focused and levelheaded. At least initially, the differences were more obvious, since there were fewer people in the group. Nowadays, Lewis has shown he's NotSoAboveItAll.
** Generally the Red Oni to Tom (Angor) whenever the two stream together, as Tom is more laid back and naturally chilled out (though not without his moments.
* SanityBall: Initially, Lewis is the only guy focused in ''WebVideo/ShadowOfIsraphel'' and the ''WebVideo/JaffaFactory Tekkit'' series, but in later instalments such as ''WebVideo/{{MoonQuest}}'', ''[=JaffaQuest=]'' and ''WebVideo/HoleDiggers'', along with non-''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'' content like the various ''VideoGame/GarrysMod'' and ''VideoGame/{{Civilization}} V'' series, ''Trucking Tuesday'' and the ''VideoGame/{{Trials}} Fusion'' live action challenge he proves he's NotSoAboveItAll and that the "sanity" part was more relative than anything else. Whether or not he's the OnlySaneMan or as bizarre as the others now changes every episode.
* SarcasmMode: He goes into this every now and then.
* SerialKiller: There's a running joke among the community and company that Lewis is the "Bristol Pusher", a person accused of pushing people into the Bristol canals to their deaths. Though he isn't actually responsible he has jokingly "admitted" responsibility sometimes, leading to further jokes about the police questioning him.
* SixthRanger: To Sips' ''TTT'' series, since it was initially himself, Turps and the sirs of Hat Films. Lewis joining refreshed the dynamic, and he was initially just in it for ''TTT'', before eventually joining him for other minigames.
* StraightMan: He often provides the setup for some of LetsPlay/SimonLane's funny comments or actions, whether he intends to or not. He's gone on record to admit that he prefers this sort of layout, as opposed to doing solo content.
* SuddenlyShouting: When particularly angered, Lewis will start shouting with no warning. This is often because the group has done nothing, such as in Galacticraft. He may or may not have had a lot to drink in these cases.
* TookALevelInDumbass: Slightly. Lewis hasn't exactly gotten stupider, but he's become considerably wackier and willing to go along with trolling for his own amusement.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: He seems to be very fond of tea.
* UnfriendlyFire: Frequently a victim of RDM in LetsPlay/{{Sips}}' shows, he ends up being the one dealing this out after Turps does it to him, after having done it repeatedly before.
* VerbalTic: "The thing is...", along with several other Yogscast members.
