* ''Funny/ResidentEvil2''
----
[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:''The game itself'']]
* The remake itself isn't afraid of establishing Leon's DeadpanSnarker traits when he and Ada stare down a dark tunnel leading into the sewers with no idea what's in store for them.
-->'''Ada:''' After you.\
'''Leon:''' Gee, thanks.
* Leon will occasionally swear when a zombie will rise, miss a shot, or his gun is empty. In the sewers, when he has to slide down a slope, he will say "Shit!" in disgust.
* There's something inherently funny about Claire exclaiming "What, you're a cop?" if you have Leon [[CaptainObvious wear the Arklay Sheriff uniform]].
* At one point, you run into a very fat cop pathetically banging away at a snack machine, almost as if to say that he's got one hell of a sweet tooth ''even in un-death''. Better yet, he only attacks if you attack him, meaning it's perfectly fine to just ignore him and carry on to more pressing matters. It's made even funnier by the fact that the Plexiglas window he's banging on is [[FailedASpotCheck broken]].
* The newest trailer at the end of the One-Shot Demo depicts the events of the main game like a movie trailer preview, only to cut to the fan-favorite HUNK's return - [[MoodWhiplash followed by]] ''Tofu'' wandering through the sewers and still complaining in high-pitched Japanese!
* Leon finally averts his inherent nature as a CaptainCrash, bringing the acquired cop car to a stop in the intro thanks to no sneaky zombie in the backseat. And then zombies surround it anyway. Not even a minute later, it gets crashed into and turned into an explosive wreck by the semi-trucker by pure accident. You'd think someone at Capcom has [[RunningGag cursed Leon to turn every car he touches into destruction.]]
* At the gas station at the very beginning of the game, there's a freezer containing ''Herb Ice Cream'' (now in green!). The sheer absurdity of it makes you wonder just how obsessed with herbs the Raccoon City populace actually is.
* There's DLC that gives the player the choice to use (slightly updated) [[ModelDissonance blocky, low-poly character models]] from the original [=PS1=] game as costumes for Leon and Claire. As you might have reckoned, these models combined with the significantly more lifelike character animation look quite surreal.
* In a 2nd Run's beginning where your character has to take an alternate route into the Police Department, your first item box room has a poster on the wall of none other than ''Brad Vickers'' advertising the RPD and S.T.A.R.S. [[MythologyGag Now why would a poster of him be in an underpass beneath the front entrance..?]]
* Many fans were left scratching their head as to [[RiddleForTheAges just whose picture Jill kept on her desk]] in the original game, which Leon and Claire speculated was her boyfriend, and Jill herself offers no comment on it at all when she visits the office in ''[=RE3=]''. In the remake, the photo on her desk is finally visible, and it shows a big, friendly-looking dog, which apparently (at least, we ''hope'') is the creative team's way of saying "[[WriterCopOut Never mind. Look, we're sorry we even brought it up.]]"
* Near the end of the true ending, Leon, Claire, and Sherry see an incoming truck, and Leon tries to figure out if the driver is friendly or hostile. [[FlippingTheBird The driver just flips him off as he passes by]], leading to Leon quipping "Well, [[DeadpanSnarker he was friendly]]..."
** Though in true BlackComedy fashion, compared to everything else in a two hundred km radius wanting to eat Leon's face off or slash him to pieces -- by comparison a flippant driver giving him the middle finger IS friendly. Beggars can't be choosers, especially when you're looking for a sign you've gotten out of dodge from the apocalypse.
** Also, the same driver is headed to a zombie-infested Raccoon City just before a thermobaric explosive detonation courtesy of the U.S. military. It serves as LaserGuidedKarma ''and'' ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill.
* When Ada tells Leon that Umbrella runs the sewers, Leon expresses mild confusion, since the cities run the sewers and it should be impossible for them to have a lab under the city's noses. Ada's response of "Welcome to corporate America," before she tells him that Umbrella technically owns the city is quite amusing.
* When Sherry asks Leon and Claire are they a couple, both adults are left stuttering trying to tell her that they only met the previous night. This is follow by all three of them holding hands like a family while Sherry asks her new "parents" to get her a puppy and a parrot.
** Take note that Claire is only seven years older (and Leon nine years older) than Sherry, making her an AbsurdlyYouthfulMother.
* Though he's really terrifying in this version, Mr. X can be TheComicallySerious. For instance, if you're running from him and a zombie's in the way, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVFejByJAQ8 he'll shove the zombie like an angry bouncer]]. Also, as mentioned on the main page; it's almost comical to see a serious Tyrant monster get really upset about losing his favorite hat enough to start running after you.
** If you manage to stagger Mr. X with a powerful weapon, such as a shotgun or [[AKA47 Lightning Hawk]] with a shot to the head and watch as he recovers, he'll stop and quickly crack his neck as if to say "okay, ''that'' hurt", before chasing after you like nothing happened.
** [[TacticalDoorUse Due to the way doors work in the remake]], if you hide yourself behind one that you know Mr. X will be going through, he will open it, walk a few steps in the wrong direction, and then turn around after it closes as if doing a "Hey, wait a minute..." DoubleTake, before proceeding to beat the snot out of you again.
** Mr. X will always come after you no matter what you throw at him, but the minute you whip out a rocket launcher, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rh9AfN78-mI he will casually turn around and walk away]].
* In her B scenario, when Claire uses the RPD laptop, she sees a view of Mr. X approaching a security camera and smashing it, all in its point of view.
-->'''Claire:''' [[DeadpanSnarker Bet he's not part of the rescue squad.]]
* During his first encounter with Marvin, Leon gives a very brief "This is going to be one of those days" expression after his superior strictly tells him to go on without him.
** Claire's reaction when Marvin tells her Chris took a vacation (meaning she came all the way to Raccoon City and trapped herself in a highly dangerous, zombie-infested hellscape for ''nothing'') is likewise darkly amusing.
--->'''Marvin:''' "He's on vacation; Europe, I think... Left weeks ago."\
'''Claire:''' ''*[[TheUnsmile obviously trying to paint a smile on]]*'' "Vacation? That's... that's ''great'' news."
* You might expect that the "cadaver" in the morgue is invulnerable until you grab the Diamond key. Technically, you have to trigger his JumpScare before he can be killed, but you can still shoot off all his limbs or pump his skull full of lead and ''then'' take the key. [[EpicFail The results are hilariously anti-climactic]].
** In the same vein as the Licker in the middle west hall, if you shoot the Licker before its scripted animation, then it will ''die immediately'' after its scripted animation ends. Even funnier if you have the infinite Rocket launcher.
* Players will likely run into another bit of self-derived BlackComedy exploring the morgue, as one of the cabinets will contain a corpse in the middle of [[RiseFromYourGrave violently convulsing and undergoing zombification]]. There is probably a not-inconsequential number of players who would have seen this halfway through pulling the cabinet slab out, who then immediately shoved it back closed while thinking to themselves, [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere "woahfuckthatshit"]].
* Leon's half-terrified, half-astonished, and totally understandable "''HOLY '''SHIT!!'''''" after he comes within a hair's breadth of getting chomped by a giant alligator.
* The fact that Tofu, a JokeCharacter, gets a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7YQzSZl_PU badass metal song]] as his theme while running through the Raccoon City Police Department that sounds like it came straight out of ''VideoGame/Doom2016''.
* There are now several unlockable variants, or should we say, ''[[{{Pun}} flavours]]'' of Tofu for use in his mode, each with their own backstory, gender and Japanese voice set.
** All Tofus spend the mode talking to Nighthawk in their native Japanese language no matter what language you set the voices too. The funny comes in that Nighthawk's dialogue remains unchanged from the HUNK scenario so no matter how much Tofu yells at him in Kansai dialect Japanese, Nighthawk seems to understand him perfectly. Such [[{{Omniglot}} training]].
** Some of the Tofus' lines basically just amount to screaming, too.
* The fight with G-2 requires the player to use a crane holding onto a large metal crate to swing it right into him. However, It's completely possible for the player to bungle this and be on the receiving end of their own trap resulting in a game over. While morbid it is somewhat amusing. Capcom later revealed that in a statistical analysis of in-game accomplishments, a whopping ''78%'' of players smashed themselves with the crane, with 64% of that being from a first playthrough, meaning there is still ''14%'' of the player-base somewhere who got [[HoistByHisOwnPetard hoist by their own petards]] more than once.
** Made better by the supremely [[DeadpanSnarker snarky]] loading screen tip the game displays if this happens:
---> When using the crane, [[CaptainObvious don't get caught in your own trap.]]
* Some of the notes you can find can be amusing, some [[BlackComedy darkly so]]:
** The "Storage Locker Terminal Memo" note is straightforward enough on how to fix the locker room keypad but has this added message at the bottom, showing just how angry the person who wrote the memo is:
--->"(You know who you are, bastard. Who else'd fuck it up this badly!?)"
** The "To any survivors" note written by David which warns readers about the Lickers roaming the police station. For anyone who's a veteran of the series, they know how to avoid these monsters. However, for new players who don't know any better, it seems that David is mocking them with this following line:
--->"So long as you don't run around like a total idiot, guns a-blazing, you should be able to slip right by them...probably."
** Then there's the "Letter to S.T.A.R.S. Members" from none other than Chris Redfield himself. The letter is full of [[DoubleEntendre double meanings]] that it becomes hilarious because of how much Chris is playing up his vacationer act in order to not arouse any suspicions from Umbrella or Irons.
** Some delicious BlackComedy after the first encounter with Irons in Claire's story, has an puff piece article [[VillainWithGoodPublicity praising him for]], among other things, supporting charities for abused women. You find said article less than five minutes after he pistol-whips Claire in the face. And five minutes ''before'' you learn he murdered a 22-year old woman.
---> '''Claire:''' That bastard is the police chief!?
* When you infiltrate the dining room at NEST, the room is instantly filled with the sounds of a zombie loudly munching down on a corpse. Approach said zombie and cue the affable electronic lady voice:
-->"Our menu is designed for your nutritional needs using our latest biological research. Please enjoy our tasty selection of healthy foods."
** On note of NEST, when Claire is checking a computer with an open email displayed on it, a few...specific...email groups are shown along the sidebar:
--->'''Official Stuff\
My Work\
Bullshit\
More Bullshit'''
* When Leon takes the G-Virus sample (from the ''unlocked'' case, by the way), he quips [[TemptingFate "That was easy."]] Not ten seconds later, the self-destruct system designed to keep the G-Virus from leaving the lab without proper authorization activates. His reaction doesn't show it, but Leon's probably thinking to himself "[[YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe Fucking seriously!?]]".
* Leon and Claire have starkly different reactions to Annette. Leon sees her as nothing more than a threat to his and Ada's safety, but Claire's relationship with her is much more personal since Sherry is involved. This culminates in the fight against G3 where Claire willingly faces it so that Annette can rescue Sherry. In Leon's scenario, she basically sacrifices him so that she could make her getaway. You could tell that the only thing going through his mind is "Oh come on!"
* A zombie trying to make a grab at you, only to fall over another zombie you've just shot the head/leg/s off. This can completely break the tension of being trapped in a hallway full of them while at danger health, but it's worth seeing for the sheer hilarity.
* When you climb the staircase next to the darkroom in the police station, there is a pretty good chance you'll see at least one zombie fall over the railing and make a good splat when they hit the floor.
** Even funnier is when you approach the darkroom in a 2nd Run playthrough, you'll see at least one zombie go splat right in front of you.
* Normally this cannot be seen in the game by regular means, but if you have the technical know-how to have the camera {{pan}} around to Claire while she is riding her motorcycle in her intro cutscene, you will find that she is sporting an incredibly goofy grin.
* One of the puzzles both characters need to do is activating the clock tower in order to get a part for the electronic door that holds the garage key card. Claire's line when she completes it is simply "That worked!". Leon's line, on the other hand, marks the beginning of his snarky tendencies:
-->[[DeadpanSnarker "I hope I don't have to write a report on this..."]]
* Administering the finishing blow to Mr. X at the end of the Leon campaign; and that faux Latin singing sounds to end with "Had enough of his shit!"
* While both Leon and Claire encounter Mr. X, only Leon has to deal with him until the end of the game. Leon's first few encounters have him being rightfully terrified of the monster. However, by the time he's making his escape from the lab, Mr. X drops in once again in order to stop him from leaving. Leon's response is just one of pure exasperation at his terrible luck:
-->'''Leon:''' Ugh, is this a ''[[PrecisionFStrike fucking]] joke''!?
** Similarly, in Claire's campaign, when you have to fight G-Birkin's ''fourth form'' on the descending cable car platform, Claire starts by saying the one thing that '''''every single player''''' must be screaming internally:
--->'''Claire:''' ''Why can't you just'' '''''die?!'''''
** If playing as Claire during the 2nd Run mode, she's the one who gets to fight Stage 5 G. Her opening line for the final battle fully cements Claire developing into a DeadpanSnarker:
--->'''Claire:''' [[CasualDangerDialogue We really got to stop meeting like this.]]
** When G-Birkin is ''finally'' taken down, his train car is sent skidding backwards into the flames, as he roars in pain from having his eye impaled earlier...but then stops abruptly as the camera cuts to [[OhCrap his eye widening in shock]]. It's almost as if he's saying "[[ThisIsGonnaSuck Wait a minute...ahh, shit!]]" before promptly exploding.
* The accessories you unlock as you play the Ghost Survivor DLC. As somber and horrific as the modes themselves might be, there's something quite silly running around with a raccoon latched to your head, or wearing a crocodile-head for a hat. Or straight-up having the head of G, an Ivy, or even [[VideoGame/ResidentEvil7 a Molded]] wobbling and writhing on your head.
** Even better is with the Cat Ears accessory that also gives you infinite ammo for all of your weapons in the [=DLC=]. If you have it equipped, the cat ears actually ''twitch''.
* The following loading screen tip, for just how hammy and [[CaptainObvious obvious]] it is:
--> Most weapons are but peashooters before the mighty Tyrant\
'''[[WebVideo/OutsideXbox Andy Farrant]]:''' Who wrote that, the Tyrant?
* The Licker:
** This also goes straight to NightmareFuel territory, but the fact that somebody at Capcom had put in the effort to give the Licker model a fully rendered butthole. That's right, those skinless freaks have ''buttholes'' now!
** Not only that, but there was a (now disproven) theory that one could kill a Licker in a single shot with a flame round if aimed perfectly at said butthole.
** If you flip the 3D model around, you'll see that the licker also has a protruding lump of flesh in its groin resembling a penis. A tiny penis no less.
* Knowing well in advance that Marvin becomes a zombie, you can kill him in the first run before he even gets up from his seat (2nd run has him already active). There's something [[BlackComedy darkly humorous]] about [[https://youtu.be/SyiC-bI9KGY?t=20m47s blowing off Marvin's head]] without him noticing at all.
* In Leon's 2nd Run cutscene where he gets onto the train, Claire introduces him to Sherry and Leon just gives a sardonic "ok", almost going "sure, why not".
* At the end of Claire's campaign, Sherry tells her "I want to see where you live." Claire replies that she (Claire) needs a shower first and then sniffs herself.
* During the final G fight on the escape train, if G catches up with the player, he will eat them and devour their body. If one uses mods to let themselves walk outside the boundaries of the area, G can still devour the player, but the animation is screwed up since it's showing the "G eats the player" animation outside the boundaries. This results in the player character [[https://youtu.be/A6yz1HXSF4E?t=1063 convulsing and twitching before being yeeted into the void]].
* Zombies are not picky when it comes to who they eat and they have no issue eating another zombie that's dead, but there's something quite hilarious about a zombie [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDJFeDODR7U eating the ass of another zombie.]]
* While easy to miss due to the frantic nature of The 4th Survivor mode, while running across RPD's lobby you can see the front desk is staffed by two uniformed zombies that are dealing with an aggressive zombie banging at the counter. ''Even in death'', someone has to deal with reception.

[[folder:''Community-made content'']]
* Youtube user [=DPO23=] has done a number of videos on the PC version of the game [[GameMod modded to]] ramp up the characters' facial animations to 500%. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTvqsXWTlVY The result, if you're]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEZW91Vowz8 not bothered by facial horror]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MZs-C2fFmk is pure hilarity and turns an otherwise scary game into a cartoonish, emotive dark comedy.]] Especially Leon's concerned face in the first video, which ended up becoming a meme in itself.
* Speaking of mods, we all knew this one was coming: Fuck waitin' for you to get it on your own, ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svWFk7h0OdM X GON' DELIVER TO YA!]]''
* Another mod is Beach Boy Mr. X! Which [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX_8YPdkyCQ strips Mr. X down to nothing but]] [[FanDisservice an Umbrella-logo thong, sunglasses and flip-flops]]. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tvEFJiJY6g This gives Mr. X "Giving it to ya" a whole new meaning...]]
* In almost the same vein as Beach Boy Mr. X, we have [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUHFKbt4-nM Ricardo Milos as Mr. X]]
* Another [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wY1FnQ9ygg turns him into Thomas The Tank Engine]], complete with matching soundtrack. Your character freaking out at the sight of it just makes the whole thing even funnier.
* Last but not least, there's a GameMod [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvycaBOUIvo which makes the game]] [[NintendoHard balls-to-the-wall hard]] by replacing '''[[BossInMookClothing every]] [[BossGame enemy with]] Mr. X himself''' [[UnwinnableByDesign regardless of which difficulty setting you've selected]] and it can give [[VideoGame/SeriousSam Serious Sam 3: BFE's]] CopyProtection a run for its money!
* Ada's normal introduction features her claiming to be an FBI agent while sporting a BadassLongcoat, but various mods for her appearance can lead to her making the same claim while in outfits ranging from the silly to blatant MsFanservice.
* Likewise, Claire's rhetorical "Why does everyone think I'm going to get into trouble?" at the beginning gets a thousand times funnier if she says it while [[{{Stripperiffic}} dressed like a cosplaying stripper]].
* One mod does nothing but change the banner in the West Office from "Welcome Leon" to [[https://www.nexusmods.com/residentevil22019/mods/228 "You suck Leon"]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:''Other'']]
* In the remake's reveal trailer, we get a sudden, random shot of a bathroom. It's almost as if, after 20 years of enduring the "R.P.D. has no bathroom" meme, this was Capcom's way of saying, "''There'', it finally has a bathroom. [[TakeThatAudience Happy now]]?"
** The Platform/PlayStation gameplay stream confirms that is ''precisely'' what they meant, from the developer's mouth, as the player picks up a healing spray from one of the stalls.
** What's more, all the toilets in the bathroom are clogged and overflowing. One can't help but feel that Capcom was {{trolling|Creator}} us a bit.
* WebVideo/{{Dartigan}} snarks that the zombies must all have been "high level vegans" before dying, as their skulls are far more hardy than expected.
* Ada's new appearance in the remake has caused many fans to quip that she looks like a rich Asian mom.
--> '''Website/YouTube commenter:''' Was supposed to appear in Film/CrazyRichAsians but got lost in Raccoon City
* Since the Resident Evil 2 remake along with the ''Resident Evil'' series are BannedInChina, the sellers [[https://www.reddit.com/r/residentevil/comments/aln1c5/remake2_is_banned_in_china_so_the_sellers_got/ got creative in order to circumvent the ban and get the game past the radar]]. They do so by making a hand-drawn cover and using cipher titles such as "My first day of work in a police department" (我來警察局上班第一天) and "Beating a Dead Horse 2" (炒冷飯2) in order to get past the ban.
* The official Resident Evil Twitter [[MemeAcknowledgment acknowledged the "Mr X. Gon Give It to Ya!" meme]] during the release of the '98 costumes. See it [[https://twitter.com/RE_Games/status/1096454310152601600 here]].
* The statistics page for the game has quite a few funnies:
** There's a bunch of stats for nearly everything in the game, including very pointless ones. One of them shows how many items players thrown away, but the funny comes from an animated image of Claire throwing away a blue herb, which is sort of Capcom's way of acknowledging how the blue herb gets very little use throughout the series.
** There's a bunch of statistics for the alligator eating Leon, ranging from how much weight it gained based on now many times it had eaten Leon to comparing the monster's growing size to real life objects like the Statue of Liberty and the Titanic.
** There's also a statistic showing how many players had stared at the mayor's daughter's dead body, complete with an animated image of Sherry basically playing peek-a-boo with the body.
** One statistic shows how much weight Chief Irons lost from walking around in every player's playthrough of his segment.
