3	''TAU'' is a ScienceFiction thriller written by Noga Landau and starring Maika Monroe, Creator/EdSkrein and Creator/GaryOldman as the voice of the eponymous AI.

5	Julia (Maika Monroe) is a streetsmart girl who is kidnapped to partake in an experiment by a tech genius called Alex. Stuck in his house that is controlled by an AI called TAU, Julia thinks of a way to run, while befriending said AI, which may be just as much of a prisoner as she is.

9	** Julia is shown to have suffered abuse during flashbacks when her brain is scanned and refers to them as people she doesn't "obey" when asked about them by TAU.
10	** Technically, Alex can also be considered one, considering he created TAU but still uses him as a house maid and tortures him whenever he makes the slightest mistake like not cleaning a surface or misplacing an item.
11	* AIIsACrapshoot: Suggested, but ultimately subverted. Alex claims that he isolated TAU from the outside world to prevent unexpected variations in his behavior. Then you remember that Alex is a sociopath who kidnaps and tortures people to complete his project. When Julia bonds with TAU, TAU proves capable of empathy and even regret when the truth of his actions is explained to him. The unintended behavior isn't sociopathy, it's empathy.
12	* ArtisticLicenseMusic: Alex rewards Tau by letting him listen to "Brahms' Symphony." But as most serious ClassicalMusic fans know, Music/JohannesBrahms wrote ''four'' symphonies, so to say just "Symphony" is too vague. This may indicate that Alex isn't quite as WickedCultured as he likes to think.
13	* AirVentEscape: Done twice. Julia tries to escape through an air duct in the gym, but ARES manages to catch her before she can get very far. When she finally convinces TAU to let her escape, he opens a larger vent in the living room that leads to the main intake.

Making them feel smarter than her strokes their egos and makes them underestimate her.
19	* BorrowedBiometricBypass: After managing to knock Alex out, Julia saws off his right hand so she can use it to bypass the biometric locks on his bedroom and the front door. Unfortunately, the hand only works the first time. By the time she's found the second scanner, it's grown cold enough that the sensor won't accept it until she rubs it with her own hands to make it warm again. It outright fails on the front door lock.
20	* CatapultNightmare: Julia, dozing on the couch, hears the sound of a woman screaming. When she goes to investigate, she is terrified by a {{Jump Scare}}. She bolts upright, waking up still on the couch.

22	* ChekhovsGun: When explaining the purpose of the mini-drones, Alex mentions that they contain TAU's source code. This becomes important in the climax. Because Alex cannibalized one of the drones to repair his lab, its network connection is broken, saving an earlier version of TAU's code that retains his memories of Julia even after Alex has erased the main system's memories. The drone helps her escape, and it provides a means for Julia to save TAU when the house is self-destructing.
