''Fate/Parallel Fantasia'' is a ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' crossover fanfic written by [=Xelloss08=].

In Fuyuki City, the Fifth Holy Grail War has begun. Mages summon Heroic Spirits to serve as their familiars in a battle to the death for the Holy Grail. However, something irregular is occurring. Each time a Servant is summoned, a second Servant of the same class appears nearby. These False Servants are not heroes from history, but characters from other anime and manga series: Kiyomasa "Crow" Senji from ''Manga/DeadmanWonderland'' as False Saber, Homura Akemi from ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'' as False Archer, Rei Ayanami from ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' as False Lancer, San from ''Anime/PrincessMononoke'' as False Rider, Lina Inverse from ''Literature/{{Slayers}}'' as False Caster, Scar from ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'' as False Berserker, Shiki Ryougi from ''Literature/TheGardenOfSinners'' as False Assassin, and Akito Sohma from ''Manga/FruitsBasket'' as False Avenger.

The appearance of these additional Servants throws the War into chaos, as some make contracts with existing Masters while others bring new magi into the conflict. This is a Grail War with not one, but two Holy Grails up for grabs -- both overflowing with the curse of all a world's evil.

!!This fanfic includes examples of the following tropes:

* ADeathInTheLimelight: [[spoiler:False Rider]], who has spent most of the story out of the limelight, gets a full chapter focused on her and then dies at the end.
* AllergicToEvil: Caren Ortensia's condition, Masochistic Penumatic Automatism Diathesis, causes her to suffer pain when in the presence of evil spiritual entities. Because of this, she is forced to sit out the final battle.
* AllForNothing: Zouken's schemes created the second Grail, as he believed one would be tainted and the other pure, but both are tainted, meaning even if he won, he still would not get his wish.
* ArtificialLimbs:
** False Assassin's Noble Phantasm is a prosthetic arm which grants her the ability to grasp spiritual bodies from a distance.
** Bazett eventually gets a prosthetic arm to replace the one False Berserker took.
* AssholeVictim: [[spoiler:Shinji gets killed after threatening to rape False Rider.]]
* BagOfHolding: One useful minor ability of False Archer's Noble Phantasm, Faust Buckler, is to provide her with infinite extradimensional storage space.
* BloodyMurder: False Saber's Noble Phantasm generates swords from his blood, becoming more powerful the more he is wounded.
* CameBackStrong: Kind of like True Avenger, back when she was alive, False Avenger was pretty much an ordinary human. After dying and becoming a Servant, she's become a god. She comments on this.
* ChainPain: False Avenger's Noble Phantasm consists of chains made from materialized curses from within the Grail. Anyone impaled by one of the chains is enslaved by False Avenger and corrupted by the curse of All Evils of This World.
* ChekhovsGun: [[spoiler:False Rider's necklace records memories, and she had fought True Caster at one point. Holding it eventually allows Shirou to Trace Rule Breaker even though he had never met True Caster, allowing him to sever both True and False Avenger's contracts and free Sakura and Illya.]]
* CloneAngst: Briefly contemplated by False Caster when she realizes that Servants are only copies based on information recorded in the AkashicRecords; meaning that if she found a way to return to her own world, she might find the "real" her still there. She ultimately decides not to worry about it.
* TheCorruption: "All Evils of This World", the curse which has corrupted the Grail and transforms any Servant exposed to it into their Dark form. The increased power is accompanied by the twisting of their minds, though True Rider finds that she's able to resist to an extent when False Avenger's attention isn't focused directly on her.
* DeliberateInjuryGambit:
** Bazett sacrifices her left arm to get close enough to kill False Berserker.
** False Saber lets True Rider impale him so that he can gather a lot of blood for his attacks.
* DramaticIrony: During the final battle, False Assassin is wary of True Assassin (Sasaki Kojiro) and thinks he's hidden somewhere, unaware he was killed rather early in the war.
* DyingAsYourself:
** False Berserker regains his sanity when he dies, saying he's glad his nightmare is over.
** As she dies, False Assassin is purified of False Avenger's curse.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:After doing her part and giving her life to save the world, False Archer, Homura Akemi, is finally reunited with Madoka Kaname in the afterlife.]]
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: False Caster manages to defeat Gilgamesh by using a Broken Phantasm. Gilgamesh cannot comprehend willingly sacrificing his own treasures, so he can't believe she would do that, and gets more confused when she says she likes the world more than mere treasure.
* EvilIsNotAToy: False Avenger warns Kirei Kotomine and Gilgamesh that the two Holy Grails are not toys, and they are fools if they think they can use the curses within for their own benefit. They sneer and say they can handle it.
* EvilVersusOblivion: After clarifying that he is only an aspect of Angra Mainyu, True Avenger says he may be evil, but he will help the heroes stop the Grails from destroying the world because he likes the world.
* EyeScream:
** [[spoiler:False Avenger's chains burrow into False Archer's eyes. Fortunately, she later heals good as new.]]
** [[spoiler:False Saber slashes out True Rider's eyes. Since she usually fights blindfolded, she isn't hindered.]]
* FireForgedFriends: Rin and Luvia can't stand each other, but after fighting together in the final battle, they admit they respect each other.
* ForWantOfANail: The major thing that allowed all this to happen was that [[spoiler:many years ago, Zouken stole the Jeweled Sword Zelretch from the Tohsaka family. After the Fourth Holy Grail War, Zouken used the Jeweled Sword's power to charge the Grail fragments he put inside Sakura and awaken the Black Grail. But since the Jeweled Sword deals with the Second Magic (alternate universes), this is what caused False Servants from different universes to be summoned.]]
* FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse: Kirei Kotomine learned long ago that he has a condition that means he is [[{{Sadist}} only happy when he makes people suffer]], causing him to be a jerk and embrace a plan to wipe out most of humanity. His daughter Caren condemns him and says that is not an excuse because she has the same condition, but she still chose to be good, even if she can't enjoy it.
* FutureBadass: In addition to True Archer being Shirou's future self, in the ending, Bazett briefly runs into the human Shiki Ryougi. Though Bazett doesn't say anything to her, she is amazed that Shiki eventually becomes False Assassin.
* GasLeakCoverup: Gas leaks are used as a cover-up to explain people falling unconscious due to being drained of prana, mostly by True Caster and True Rider.
* {{Geas}}: When Bazett joins the heroes, in order to prove that she is serious about no longer competing in the war, she permits Rin to place a geas on her which forbids her to make a new contract with any Servant. It is later revealed that Kirei Kotomine and Gilgamesh had put one on Bazett earlier that forced her not to reveal their plans and would have allowed them to control her, but False Caster steals the Noble Phantasm, The Ninnion Tablet, that maintained it and Bazett destroys it, freeing her.
* GoodNeedsEvil: This is part of the speech Kotomine gives to Shirou during their first meeting: Shirou can only achieve his dream of becoming a hero if there is a villain for him to battle.
* HealingFactor: Servants can recover from any injury that doesn't destroy their head or heart, provided they have enough of a supply of magical energy to draw on. This makes the Servants corrupted by False Avenger a significant threat, since unlike the heroic Servants they can draw unlimited energy from the Grail.
* HeroicSacrifice:
** [[spoiler:True Archer]] uses up all his mana and fades away to arm True Saber with Caliburn so she can use it to defeat True Berserker.
** [[spoiler:False Saber gets severely wounded by True Rider, but rather than retreat, he uses up the last of his strength to give her an extreme injury that will take a long time to heal even with her healing factor. He dies, but is satisfied that True Rider is neutralized, improving his comrades' chances.]]
* HeroStoleMyBike: Luvia and False Lancer steal an empty police car to get around for a bit before ditching it. Since the keys are missing, False Lancer points out she can drive it thanks to her Riding Skill, but she doesn't know how to hotwire it, so Luvia starts it with her magic.
* HistoryRepeats:
** True Caster's original Master attempts to abandon her for the younger and prettier False Caster, just like Jason betrayed her original self Medea for a younger and prettier princess. True Caster gets so angry about this happening again that she kills him.
** [[spoiler:In his original timeline, back when True Archer was Shirou Emiya]], he foolishly risked his life to try to save Saber from Berserker. In the final battle, he ends up doing it again, sacrificing himself to save her and help her defeat True Berserker. He comments on it, but dies without regrets, admitting he would choose to save her every time.
* HonorBeforeReason: False Archer offers Rin a gun so that she can quickly kill the enemy Masters. Rin refuses, saying battles between Magi should be fought only with magic.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: False Caster defeats Gilgamesh by wasting all her mana on purpose, making him drop his guard when he can tell she genuinely can barely move. Then she turns her Demon Blood Talisman into a Broken Phantasm and absorbs its mana, then blasts him before he can react.
* IKnowYouAreInThereSomewhereFight: Shirou tries to get Sakura to break free from False Avenger's corruption while Luvia tries the same with False Lancer. It doesn't work.
* ImmortalitySeeker: Zouken Matou seeks the Holy Grail so that he can wish for immortality.
* ImmuneToBullets: Like in her home series, False Archer steals a bunch of guns and explosives. To her chagrin, she learns that they are useless against Servants because Servants are immune to non-magical attacks, and she lacks the ability to enchant the weapons. The best she can do with them is distract the Servants or try to assassinate their Masters. At one point, she uses a grenade on True Berserker, and while it doesn't harm him, it does break the street and make him fall through it, temporarily stopping him.
* ItIsDehumanizing: Zouken refers to all of the Servants as "It".
* ItsPersonal: Gilgamesh really wants to murder False Caster because she managed to steal some of his treasures. Fittingly, they face each other in the final battle.
* KnifeOutline: Gilgamesh ends up accidentally doing this to False Caster with legendary weapons from his Gate of Babylon. He really was aiming for her, but overdramatically fired off a large volley of weapons rather than a single properly-aimed one, and he misjudged the size of his target due to her billowing cape.
* LodgedBladeRecycling: When False Lancer impales False Archer, she charges forward and uses the spear inside her to impale False Lancer through the heart, killing her.
* MakeThemRot: False Caster uses a spell to make True Berserker's body decay. It kills him before God Hand brings him back to life and restores his body.
* MaskOfPower: One of False Rider's Noble Phantasms is a magical mask which obscures her identity, parameters, skills, and even her class; because she carries a spear, True Rider initially mistakes her for a Lancer.
* MercyKill: True Archer decapitates [[spoiler:False Archer]] when she gets corrupted by False Avenger's chains. [[spoiler:Fortunately, her Soul Gem allows her to come back to life.]]
* MoreThanMindControl: False Lancer, False Assassin, and Sakura give in to False Avenger's corruption because they feel like their empty souls are filled by her.
* MutualKill: [[spoiler:False Caster manages to kill Gilgamesh, but uses up all her mana and fades away shortly afterwards.]]
* MyGreatestFailure: Shirou feels very guilty when he finds out about how Sakura suffered under Zouken and Shinji, berating himself for never noticing even though they have known each other for years.
* NestedOwnership: In addition to True Caster being True Assassin's Master, [[spoiler:Shirou eventually transfers False Saber to False Caster.]]
* NobleWolf: False Rider's Noble Phantasm summons one to serve as her mount, [[spoiler:the wolf-goddess Moro]].
* NoGuyWantsAnAmazon: When Shinji meets Bazett, he thinks that she's ugly because of her muscles.
* NotSoSimilar: False Archer assumes she and False Lancer are similar, saying she guesses that just like her, False Lancer was a normal girl who was forced to be a child soldier. False Lancer retorts that unlike False Archer, she never had a normal life.
* NotAfraidToDie: Kotomine comments that he likely wouldn't survive when Angra Mainyu's curse is unleashed upon the world, but he doesn't care because seeing it unleashed is his life's goal.
* NothingPersonal: Kotomine tells Gilgamesh how he has connections with almost all the other Masters like Shirou, Rin, and Bazett, and will enjoy making them suffer and die. Then he comments that he has never met Luvia before and doesn't know her, but she stands in his way, so he'll just snap her neck.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Illyasviel, due to the nature of her homunculus body. Shirou mistakes her for a small child when he first sees her, not knowing that she's older than he is.
* OneCurseLimit: Illyasviel cannot be affected by False Avenger's chains because she's already cursed by the evils of the Grail within her. Kotomine is not affected by the chains either because of the black heart given to him by Angra Mainyu. True Avenger is immune to the chains because he is full of his own curse.
* OneHeroHoldTheWeaksauce: False Caster has the Dragon Blood Talismans, which give her unlimited mana, meaning she can survive without a Master and fight indefinitely. Of course, she has a limit on how much mana she can process at one time, so she can still wear herself out.
* PowerStrainBlackout: False Caster faints after using her Ragna Blade technique.
* PretenderDiss:
** Gilgamesh tries to kill any False Servant he meets on sight, seeing them as nothing but fakers and trespassers on his world.
** Kotomine dismisses False Avenger's claims of being a god, saying she's just a little girl who is scared of being alone.
* RasputinianDeath: [[spoiler:Zouken]] gets killed when False Avenger enslaves False Assassin and makes her stab him with her Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. He goes through extreme lengths trying to survive, but succumbs and dies in the end.
* TheRestShallPass: The final battle has the heroes charging down a tunnel to try to reach the Greater Grail. True Avenger stays behind to hold off False Avenger. Rin, Luvia, and Bazett stay behind to hold off False Berserker. False Saber stays behind to hold off True Rider. False Archer stays behind to hold off False Lancer. True Saber and True Archer stay behind to hold off True Berserker. False Caster stays behind to hold off Gilgamesh. Finally, Shirou alone reaches and battles Kotomine.
* SelflessWish:
** As she is dying, False Rider says she was originally planning to wish that the world be returned to nature. She amends her wish to ask that Gaia, the planet's will, and Alaya, the will of humanity to survive, be able to work together in harmony.
** When he thinks they are all about to die or be enslaved, Shirou uses a Command Spell to ask that Saber be allowed to reach Avalon. [[spoiler:It pays off as it allows him to access the Avalon within his own body, saving them all.]]
* SexSlave: When Shinji becomes True Rider's Master, he can order her to have sex with him whenever he chooses.
* ShedArmorGainSpeed: Saber removes her armor when fighting False Lancer, since her lance cannot be blocked by anything, so Saber would rather have mobility on her side.
* StatingTheSimpleSolution: When Rin learns that False Archer can freeze time, she asks why she doesn't just freeze time and kill all the opposing Masters and Servants right now. False Archer points out all the reasons why this is not possible. Maintaining the freeze for even a few minutes costs a ''lot'' of prana, plus she can't attack someone without them unfreezing.
* StayWithMeUntilIDie: False Rider passes away with [[spoiler:Moro]], Illya, and True Berserker by her side.
* TakeOffYourClothes: Rin drags Sakura into a bathroom and orders her to strip to prove she doesn't have Command Spells.
* TakeAThirdOption: [[spoiler:When Kirei dies, his Command Spells pass to his daughter Caren. She realizes either holding on to them or trying to use or hide them will lead to her being hunted down. She decides to pass them to Rin, Bazett, and Sakura, allowing them to make new contracts with True Saber, True Lancer, and True Rider, who all survived the final battle.]]
* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler:False Archer takes out False Assassin by using her last Noble Phantasm to send them both to the afterlife of Magical Girls.]]
* TimeStandsStill: This is the power of False Archer's Noble Phantasm, Faust Buckler. It turns out to be less useful than expected, since if she touches an enemy (such as by attacking them), they become unfrozen along with her.
* TokenEvilTeammate: True Avenger is a CardCarryingVillain through and through, but obeys his Master Caren's orders to help the heroes.
* TragicKeepsake: False Rider is dying without a Master and runs into Sakura. After failing to convince Sakura to form a contract with her, she gives Sakura her necklace, the same one her lover Ashitaka gave her. Later, when Sakura is corrupted by False Avenger, she gives Shirou the necklace before she fully succumbs. Shirou holds on to it and looking at it helps fuel his resolve to save Sakura.
* UnblockableAttack:
** False Assassin can destroy almost anything as long as she can see its lines of death.
** False Lancer's lance can pierce anything, even souls.
* VillainousFriendship: Gilgamesh and Kotomine are such good friends that Gilgamesh even admits that he will miss Kotomine when he eventually dies.
* VolcanicVeins: Those chained by False Avenger develop pulsing red vein-like lines on their bodies.
* WhamEpisode:
** Chapter 29: [[spoiler:Shortly after True Caster summons True Assassin, False Assassin, who is [[Literature/TheGardenOfSinners Ryougi Shiki]], appears and asks her to be her Master. After being rejected, False Assassin effortlessly kills her, then kills Souichirou Kuzuki when he attempts to avenge her.]]
** Chapter 30: [[spoiler:False Assassin effortlessly kills True Lancer, then Zouken contacts her and convinces her to become his Servant.]]
** Chapter 31: Zouken reveals that there are two Holy Grails.
** Chapter 32: True Avenger emerges without having been summoned.
** Chapter 44: [[spoiler:True Rider attempts to rescue Sakura from the Matou mansion, only to find she has been enslaved by False Avenger. False Avenger then enslaves her as well.]]
** Chapter 60: [[spoiler:False Avenger abducts Illyasviel and enslaves True Berserker.]]
** Chapter 61: [[spoiler:False Avenger enslaves False Assassin and kills Zouken.]]
** Chapter 68: [[spoiler:Bazett had lied about True Lancer being killed but eventually told the heroes the truth, keeping him in reserve. When Kirei is about to kill Shirou, True Lancer steps in and kills Kirei with the Gae Bolg Shirou has Projected.]]
* TheWorfBarrage:
** As usual, Gae Bolg, True Lancer's supposedly unblockable and undodgeable spear, gets the short end of the stick. When he tries it on False Archer, she simply freezes time and leaves, so when time unfreezes, it has no target. When he tries it on True Berserker, it bounces off him because Gae Bolg is a B Rank Noble Phantasm and God Hand makes True Berserker immune to B Rank and lower attacks. He uses runes to temporarily upgrade the spear to A Rank and it succeeds in killing True Berserker, but God Hand brings him back to life. [[spoiler:Finally, he tries it on False Assassin, but she uses Mystic Eyes of Death Perception to slice the spear in half with her knife.]]
** [[spoiler:False Assassin's Mystic Eyes of Death Perception don't work on Shirou because Avalon protects his body. It doesn't work on False Avenger either, because she is a god. It doesn't work on the hair ribbon that False Archer got from Madoka, because it symbolizes their unbreakable promise to be reunited.]]
** Gilgamesh is unfazed when False Caster uses [[WaveMotionGun Dragon Slave]] on him.
* WorfHadTheFlu: Since Shirou and Rin have two Servants each, the Servants are only about half as powerful as they would normally be because the Masters have to supply all of them with prana. True Archer notes that he doesn't have nearly enough prana to unleash Unlimited Blade Works. [[spoiler:True Archer eventually does use Unlimited Blade Works, but this contributes to his death when he uses up all his energy.]]
* TheWormThatWalks: Zouken Matou's true form is a mass of worms possessing a corpse.
* WouldntHurtAChild:
** Rin suggests killing Illyasviel to get rid of True Berserker, but both of her Archers refuse.
** While False Caster is battling True Berserker, she has a shot at Illyasviel, but ultimately can't bring herself to kill someone who looks like a child.
* WreckedWeapon:
** False Assassin effortlessly destroys [[spoiler:Gae Bolg]] with her knife.
** False Caster slashes False Lancer's Lance of Longinus with Ragna Blade, creating a huge gash and causing the Lance to [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere temporarily abandon her]].
** In their final battle, False Caster destroys several of Gilgamesh's weapons.
** False Assassin destroys False Archer's shield and bow.
* YouRemindMeOfX: False Archer notes that Shirou is a fool, but his determination to save everybody reminded her of Madoka.
