''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13368342/1/Thank-You Thank You]]'' is a ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'' fanfiction. After Yaoyorozu is easily defeated by Tokoyami at the Sports Festival, Midoriya decides to have a chat with her, knowing all too well what it's like to feel like a failure. Neither of them knows how much this small talk will impact their future.

!!This fanfic contains instances of:

* ActuallyPrettyFunny: After Magne kicks Bakugo in the groin several times, the blond asks why she keeps hitting his dick. Dabi replies that given how [[{{Jerkass}} Bakugo]] is, even if she attacks another area she would still be hitting a dick. Izuku had to stop himself from laughing.
* AbledInTheAdaptation: A variant, as due to [[spoiler:Sir Nighteye]] taking his place in TakingTheBullet, Mirio never [[spoiler:temporarily]] loses his quirk.
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: A two-way example occurs because of Inko and Toshinori's relationship. Inko starts putting more work towards her appearance and slims down to where she was in the manga's prologue, while her cooking helps Toshinori put on a healthy amount of weight to the point that he jokes people will eventually [[LampshadeHanging be able to see his eyebrows again.]]
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: Apart from the couples, the most noticeable one is between Yaoyorozu and Bakugo: in canon, he barely acknowledges her existence, while Momo simply ignores his tantrums; here, Momo grows to genuinely hate Bakugo for his decade's worth of bullying Izuku, while Bakugo finds her butting in his personal affairs irritating.
* AdaptationalBadass:
** Thanks to his talks with Yaoyorozu, Midoriya realizes how to use his legs to fight and how to spread One for All across his body earlier than canon. He not only defeats Todoroki at the Sports Festival but he also [[spoiler:ties for first place with Bakugo]]. Also, he starts using [[spoiler:one of the Quirks of his predecessors as soon as the Summer Camp arc, and another at the end of the Shie Hassakai raid]].
** Since she spent her Internship with Edgeshot instead of Uwabami, Yaoyorozu has been trained in hand-to-hand and sword combat and stealth. Izuku's advice also gives her more ideas to use her Quirk, improving her battle capacities even more.
** During the Summer Camp arc, Uraraka discovers [[spoiler:how to use her Quirk to add gravity]].
** Inko's telekinesis Quirk usually only allows her to move small objects, but this changes [[AlmightyMom when she gets mad.]] After catching Izuku sneaking out to meet up with Toshinori, she psychically drags the (admittedly skinny) Pro Hero halfway across Dagobah Beach when he tries to [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere head for the hills.]]
* AdaptationalJerkass:
** In canon, Izuku's father is TheGhost, with the reason he is not around being that he works overseas. Here, he abandoned his family when he learned his son was Quirkless.
** Bakugo: Not only are his bullying and its consequences treated more seriously and explored more, but he offended Midoriya's mother just to get a rise out of him.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: Enforced with Mineta, who is learning to control his perverted antics...because Midoriya beat him up when he was trying to peep on the girls, and the principal warned him that he is in danger of being expelled.
* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: Coupled with AdaptationalComicRelief, Todoroki has become obsessed with proving All Might being Izuku's dad (to the point of stalking them at one point), and creating 'secret love-child' situations even among his peers (for example, thinking Shindo is Momo and Izuku's 'secret love-child'), not to mention being more reckless (such as sneaking into an AirVentPassageway when trying to save Bakugou, which backfires horribly) a stark contrast from his stoic and serious-minded canon counterpart.
* AdaptationalSexuality:
** It's not stated in canon which gender (if any) Jirou finds attractive, but in the fic, she's a lesbian.
** Uraraka is heterosexual in canon, and her crush on Midoriya is well known. Here she is bisexual [[spoiler:and develops an attraction for Jirou]].
* AirVentPassageway: Subverted. Todoroki's plan to invade the bar of the League of Villains is to go through an air vent: he immediately clogs it (alerting the villains of his presence), he can only crawl very slowly and noisily, and then it simply collapses under his weight.
* AllForNothing: In Chapter 51, Nana finds the AwfulTruth about her son's fate, realizing that her sacrifice, and giving him up for adoption to keep him safe from All For One, was totally useless; even worse, he died hating her and heroes in general, and his son became All For One's successor.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited:
** At the beginning of the story, Ochako was crushing on Izuku and Jirou on Momo. Later they gave up, realizing the two are in love with each other.
** It's not easy to tell with [[TheTease Mina]], but it's implied she has feelings for Midoriya: she tells Yaoyorozu he is a great catch, flirts with Shindo (who, as several characters noticed, looks like Izuku without freckles), and even (jokingly?) tells Momo to call her if she and Izuku are ever up for a threesome.
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Momo's once Izuku passed their InkblotTest and has shown that his love is genuine.
* AmazonChaser: When he sees Momo use [[ICallItVera Fushigiri]] to cut the legs of one of Pixie-Bob's creatures, Izuku admits to himself she is the most beautiful and badass thing he ever saw.
* AscendedExtra:
** Momo is the main heroine here on account of being [[PromotedToLoveInterest Izuku’s love interest and later girlfriend]].
** Nana serves as Izuku's SpiritAdvisor starting from Chapter 49,
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Both Momo and, especially, Izuku, get to use their analytical abilities more often and efficiently. One example is their individual battles with Mirio; by analyzing his Quirk and battle skills, out of all the students facing him in the melee battle, Momo is the only one who gives him a moderate challenge, and later Izuku fights him to a stalemate.
* AwfulTruth: In Chapter 51, Izuku and Nana investigate her son, and, to their mutual horror, they find out that he and his family were killed [[SelfMadeOrphan by his own infant son]].
* BattleCouple: Deconstructed: Izuku and Momo have fought many battles together and have become a great team... and for this reason, Momo decided to not work with Izuku for Sir Nighteye: as she points out, not having enough experience with fighting on their own or with other people would bite them in the ass when the other isn't around to help. All Might agrees.
* BecameTheirOwnAntithesis: Bakugou, who had dreamed of being a hero his whole life, realizes in Chapter 50 that his actions, especially towards Izuku, make him much closer to a villain.
* BerserkButton: Insulting or hurting Inko or Momo gets Izuku to his RageBreakingPoint. Kirishima reacts just as badly if any of his classmates get injured in front of him.
* BrainBleach:
** All Might is horrified to learn Izuku will soon be sexually active.
** Bakugo has a similar reaction when he finds Momo's negligee in Izuku's room.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: All Might does it occasionally, like when he booed Midoriya because the boy didn't want to confess to Yaoyorozu and explained he was talking on behalf of the readers of the fic.
* ChekhovsGun:
** In chapter 48 Izuku finds the tracker Momo created when they went to save Bakugo. [[GenreSavvy Knowing how often he gets in trouble, he brings it with him]]. In the following chapter, he puts it on Eri.
** Izuku's journals; Bakugo reading them in Chapter 50, and finding the SuicideNote, are decisive for his HeelRealization.
* ChickMagnet: Kaminari and Mineta ''think'' that Izuku is this, on account of scoring with Momo and Mei's clinginess to him. They explicitly bring it up when Camie hits on him.
* ChivalrousPervert: Izuku loves Momo first and foremost for her intelligence, her kindness, and her bravery. It doesn't mean he is not aware of how incredibly gorgeous she is, and he has to stop himself from staring at her assets.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Yaoyorozu tries very hard not to be, but she has trouble controlling her jealousy, even when said girls have no interest in Izuku.
* ClothesMakeTheSuperman: In Chapter 55, Mei gives Izuku an upgraded version of Melissa Shield's gauntlets; combined with the boots she previously gave him, Izuku is now capable of using 100% Full Cowl without hurting himself. All Might still warns Izuku about how [[DeconstructedTrope overusing this gear might make him too dependent on it and prevent him from progressing at his own rate]] yet also agrees that is okay to use them in emergency situations or difficult missions.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Over time Todoroki becomes it, getting more and more desperate to prove Midoriya is All Might's child. Even after that is solved, he starts having ridiculous theories about other people being the secret love child of someone else. And let's not forget about "Barney", his trench coat partner.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: In Chapter 42, Momo starts taking action to stop Todoroki each time the boy thinks about a new "secret love child" theory.
* CollectorOfTheStrange: Izuku only brings a small part of his All Might collection in his new room at the U.A. dormitory, since the man is now dating Izuku's mom and it would feel strange. He instead starts collecting things about the times he spent with Momo... including the shirt she vomited on during the Summer Camp arc. Momo herself isn't sure if she should feel disturbed about that.
* ComicallySmallBribe: Initially, Aizawa put Midoriya and Yaoyorozu's rooms in the dormitory as distant as possible. Mina points out to Aizawa that putting them on separate floors means that they'll be trying to sneak out just to meet each other, which means that Aizawa will likely get even ''less'' sleep just having to reprimand them. He ultimately folds when Mina persuades him to put them on the same floor by offering him a new sleeping bag.
* CovertPervert: Momo made a body pillow of Izuku to sleep with when the boy isn't around: while the image on one side is him in regular clothes, on the other he is shirtless and about to take off his pants. The night before they separated because of their jobs at different agencies, she is determined to get closer to "the home base" than before. Izuku jokingly calls her "Mineta Jr."
* CrazyEnoughToWork: Once Izuku analyzes how Mirio's IntangibleMan Quirk works, he decides to use a comic book trick by [[ComicBook/TheFlash vibrating his molecules at super-speed to become partially intangible himself]], so that he can actually hit Mirio. It works.
* CurbStompBattle: Kirishima versus the drug dealer [[TakingTheBullet that headshot Momo]]. In the manga, after taking a [[SuperSerum quirk-enhancing drug]], this dealer gave Kirishima a good battle; here, he stands no chance.
* CurbStompCushion:
** In Chapter 44, Bakugo connects a few good hits on Izuku, but he's still badly outmatched, and Izuku was very close to causing permanent damage.
** While Mirio still defeats most of 1-A without trouble, Momo manages to keep up with him for a short while and forces him to fight much more seriously.
** Nighteye manages to dodge and counter some of Izuku's moves; however, at this point, Izuku [[TookALevelInBadass is already much stronger than in canon]], and once he manages to corner Nighteye, he defeats him with relative ease.
* DecompositeCharacter: InUniverse: when Momo sees the personalities of the Big Three (Tamaki's shyness, Nejire's curiosity about Quirks, and Mirio's charisma and optimism about heroes), she reflects that they seem like somebody had split Izuku into three different people.
* DePower: [[spoiler:Sir Nighteye]] is the one who loses his quirk in this story, not Mirio.
* DidIJustSayThatOutLoud: Both Izuku and Momo ([[GotMeDoingIt who gets the habit of mumbling from him]]) have this problem several times.
* DistractedByTheSexy: When Izuku and Momo finally have a sparring session, she uses her looks to distract and catch him by surprise at least once.
* TheDreaded: PlayedForLaughs. Aizawa's reaction to learning that Ms. Joke is at their exam for the Temporary Hero License is to freak out and try to run away with his students, shouting that they will take it another time.
* DrivenToSuicide: After reading Izuku's journals that describe much of the sorrow and anguish he suffered when he was Quirkless (especially because of Bakugo's bullying), Momo fears that he might have suicidal tendencies. Izuku later admits that he certainly had suicidal thoughts more than once.
* DrunkWithPower: Downplayed with Izuku in Chapter 55, as he gets to experience his full power without any side effects; he's quite excited and loves using the power, but still keeps a mostly cool head, and All Might advises him on how to control these emotions.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: Earlier on, it was more common for characters to [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall lean on the fourth wall]], or the narrator to mention meta-information about characters, such as All Might commenting that the fandom hates Mineta or the narrator commenting that Kaminari is the most electrifying boy in anime. This vanishes eventually.
* EatingTheEyeCandy: As a special birthday gift, Momo asks Izuku to do his daily workout {{shirtless|Scene}}. The rest of the 1-A girls get to enjoy the show as well.
* EmbarrassingOldPhoto: As a punishment to her son for mounting the rescue mission to save Bakugo and keeping One For All a secret from her, Inko shows Momo Izuku's baby pictures and his old All Might onesies.
* EurekaMoment: During a not-date with Yaoyorozu, Midoriya has a realization similar to the one he had with Gran Torino in the canon universe, thanks to several events that happened. It takes him a while to make it sound coherent:
--> '''Midoriya:''' "Yaoyorozu! I'M A PASTRY!"\
'''Yaoyorozu:''' "...what?"\
'''Midoriya:''' "I MEAN I'M YUBI!"\
'''Yaoyorozu:''' "Midoriya, you are scaring me."\
'''Midoriya:''' "I'M FROSTBITE!"\
'''Yaoyorozu:''' "... I should have listened to Iida when he wanted to more heavily enforce drug tests at school."
* EveryoneCanSeeIt:
** Most of the people who know Midoriya and Yaoyorozu realize they are crushing on each other, from their classmates to their parents.
** Uraraka gets pretty embarrassed when all the girls in 1-A admit they were all aware of her crush on Izuku.
* ExtremeOmnivore: After signing Kirishima and Yaoyorozu's forms, Fatgum eats the pen. [[SubvertedTrope Then he admits they are made of chocolate]]...[[DoubleSubverted but the ink is still there. He usually has his stomach pumped twice a month.]]
* FanBoy: Spinner for Stain; the killer is not happy about it and throws a fit when they are put in the same cell.
* FantasticAbleism: Encouraged by the teachers in Bakugo and Izuku's middle school, as they [[ApatheticTeacher didn't care about Quirkless students getting bullied]], and [[SadisticTeacher covered for the bullies' misdeeds so they could keep a clean record while continuing to hurt the Quirkless ones]].
* FastballSpecial: Midoriya throws Bakugo towards All Might in the last seconds of their final exam. Later, he does it with Momo when they face Gang Orca in the Provisional License Exam.
* {{Fingore}}: When Momo sees Shigaraki threaten Izuku at the mall she can't use her Quirk to help due to the law. So she takes a knife from the food court and cuts off his middle finger since he needs to touch something with all five fingers to activate his Quirk.
* FirstNameBasis:
** After their fight with Stain, Midoriya, and Yaoyorozu asked each other to use their given names.
** When Momo first meets Inko, the latter insists on having the heroine in training refer to her by her first name.
* FreudianSlip: After learning of Nighteye's prophecy (that All Might will die ''at the latest'' a year from now), a desperate Izuku calls Toshinori "Dad".
* TheFriendsWhoNeverHang: Both the narration and several characters point out that, despite most of 1-A getting along rather well, there are several subgroups of students, so many of them never really interact that much.
* GlassCannon: Momo literally mentions this trope when talking about Izuku's general condition when he's not in full control of his power and keeps hurting himself if he goes beyond a certain limit.
* GravityMaster: [[spoiler:Uraraka learns to use her Quirk to add weight to things]].
* GreaterNeedThanMine: When Izuku laments that he couldn't save [[spoiler:Sir Nighteye]] from losing his quirk, he counters by saying that it was more important to save Mirio's.
* HeelRealization: In Chapter 44, Bakugo finally realizes how much of a jerk and downright villainous he'd been to Izuku when the latter finally snaps. Later, in Chapter 50, Bakugo makes a deep analysis of his past misbehavior, even reading some of Izuku's journals and visiting his old school, realizing how he got conditioned to [[FantasticAbleism see nothing wrong with bullying a Quirkless boy]].
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:At the Shie Hassaikai raid, Mirio tries to protect Sir Nighteye from the quirk-erasing bullet by TakingTheBullet himself. Sir Nighteye, however, reverses it by taking the shot for Mirio, losing his quirk]].
* HiddenDepths: Edgeshot, TheStoic cool ninja, is a big fan of video games; he also actually does a high-pitched "[[{{Squee}} eeeeeeeeeeeee]]" when Momo admits she and Izuku got together. And another when she said they kissed.
* HoldingOutForAHero: In Chapter 49, Nana explains to Izuku how Yagi had changed society and mentions this trope as the biggest negative consequence. While All Might, besides keeping crime on very low levels, also inspired others to be better as people, he also made them too dependent on him, to the point where most potential heroes stopped trying to do their best because they knew that [[AlwaysSomeoneBetter they'd never be as good as All Might no matter how hard they tried]]. Worse, the few who try to surpass him are doing it for selfish reasons, like Endeavor and Bakugo.
* HowDoIShotWeb: [[spoiler:After the first time, Uraraka can only activate her new power when she doesn't mean it]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: Discussed: Momo accuses All Might of being one when she learns that he (somebody born without a Quirk) told Izuku he couldn't become a Hero; Izuku disagrees, since after all he didn't become the Symbol of Peace until his mentor gave him One For All.
* ICallItVera: At the end of her Internship, Edgeshot gives Yaoyorozu an Odachi sword. She chose to name it [[VideoGame/SekiroShadowsDieTwice Fushigiri]] due to her teacher's love of video games.
* IHeardThat: [[spoiler:Despite his best efforts (which include sprinting down the street, locking himself in one of the SWAT vans, wrapping his scarf all the way around his head, putting his phone to his mouth, and whispering), Kyoka ''still'' manages to hear Aizawa tell Ms. Joke, "I love you".]]
--> '''Jirou:''' ''I HEARD THAT!''\
'''Aizawa:''' No you didn't!\
'''Ms. Joke:''' Yes she did.
* INeedAFreakingDrink: After Izuku passes his test and leaves him with All Might, Nighteye pulls off two glasses and a bottle of sake. When All Might reminds him he can't drink in his state, he says they are both for him.
* ISeeDeadPeople: Izuku starts communicating with One For All's previous users much sooner than in canon. By Chapter 49, he can see and talk with Nana even when he's awake.
** In chapter 60, Izuku arranges a real meeting between Nana's ghost and Toshinori by dropping a little of his blood into Toshinori's coffee, giving him temporary access to One For All once again.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: At the beginning of the story, Uraraka has a crush on Izuku and Kyouka on Momo. They are at first not happy about them getting closer, but in the end, accept it for their sake and even help them. [[spoiler:And end up attracted to each other.]]
* IfIDoNotReturn: Knowing he could very easily be killed in his last fight against All for One, All Might calls Izuku's mother (who he has been dating in his civilian identity) to give her a message: he admits his SecretIdentity and that he learned to see her and his son as his family, and that he loves her.
* InSpiteOfANail: Despite getting way more requests for his internship thanks to his superior performance at the Sports Festival, Izuku still goes to Gran Torino.
* IndyPloy: Momo has a really hard time coming up with these; one of the reasons why Edgeshot asks for her for the internship is because he realized how easily she goes into a panic when put under pressure. She has been getting better with them, both during the Summer Camp arc (see ShockAndAwe) and the Rescue Bakugo arc (she was the one to come up with the plan for rescuing Izuku and Bakugo from the group of villains they were fighting).
* InkblotTest: To be sure that Izuku isn't interested in Momo for her body or her money, her parents made him take one in Chapter 37. Two of the three stains are supposed to be identifiable as a pair of big breasts and stacks of money (although by Ritchi's admission, he has no idea what the third blob they presented is supposed to be), but Izuku sees a pair of eyes and grass, passing the test.
* InsultOfEndearment: When Bakugo and his mom finally have a chat about the boy's actions in chapter 50, they keep on referring to each other as "brat" and "hag".
* InterclassFriendship: It's implied that the Yaoyorozus and Inko have gotten close sometime after their kids begin dating and before Chapter 50.
* InterruptedIntimacy:
** It happened several times to Midoriya and Yaoyorozu, to the point Momo becomes GenreSavvy about it in Chapter 35, mentioning she hopes Izuku's door can lock.
** Kaminari [[RunningGag has a knack for it]]: after he walks into [[spoiler:Jirou and Uraraka's first kiss]] in Chapter 35, he complains he'd like to be the one to be interrupted since at least he'd have a girlfriend.
** All Might [[GenreSavvy started to see a pattern]]: in chapter 46, he knocked on Izuku's door and said he was fine with waiting until things were decent.
* ItsAllAboutMe: In canon, the Bakugo-Izuku fight was a moment of closure for both teens, allowing them to close a chapter of their lives. Here, Bakugo attacks Momo when she tries to get in the way of their talk and then tries to continue the same thing as in canon, but doesn't understand why Izuku doesn't care about his problems when a) he just attacked someone, and b) Izuku just hit his RageBreakingPoint over all the stuff that happened in his past because of Bakugo and those like him.
* JailbaitTaboo: While she's on patrol, some guy hits on Momo. He quickly backs down when she tells him her age.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: [[NiceGuy Kirishima]] is firmly convinced that Bakugo is one, even arguing about it with Momo.
* KarmaHoudini: Just like canon, Bakugo doesn't face any consequences for his years of tormenting Izuku. Unlike canon, he seems to realize it's not normal: when Izuku confessed he told Yaoyorozu about their past, he was sure the girl had ratted him out and he was about to be expelled from U.A., only to be confused as to why Midoriya asked her to not tell anyone about it.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty:
** In Chapter 44, after making Izuku reach his RageBreakingPoint, Bakugo finally faces severe consequences. After being on the wrong end of a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown, Aizawa adds a well-deserved punishment due to the boy starting a fight, and causing massive collateral damage and serious psychological distress to a classmate; aside from his canon punishment, Bakugo is prohibited from getting his provisional license for a year. He also gets on [[PapaWolf All Might's]] bad side; after learning of his past mistreatment of Izuku, All Might makes it clear that he'll get Bakugo expelled if he doesn't correct himself.
** Related to the above, much of Bakugo's worst personality traits were encouraged by his teachers' FantasticAbleism, as they allowed him to continue bullying Izuku without facing any consequences, and even keeping his school record clean while ignoring Izuku's well-being and even downplaying and ignoring Inko's attempts to help her son. This comes back to bite them in the ass when Izuku starts dating Momo, and their parents become close friends; in Chapter 50, it's shown that the Yaoyorozus bought the school and fired the staff. While not stated outright, it's strongly implied that this will ruin the teachers' reputations for good so they'll be unable to find any new teaching jobs.
* KidFromTheFuture: Todoroki thinks Shindo is Midoriya and Yaoyorozu's son who came from the future to be sure his parents stay together. Yaoyorozu thinks that this is a sign that Todoroki is losing his mind.
* KindHeartedCatLover: Ms. Joke, much to Aizawa's surprise. It actually makes him decide to take a shot at dating her.
* LastNameBasis:
** In her efforts to make Izuku see Bakugo for the tormentor he is instead of the friend he so wants him to be, Momo tries to convince Midoriya to use Bakugo's last name when talking to him (or even about him) instead of the nickname Kacchan. So far, it isn't working too well.
** In chapter 50, Bakugo, in the middle of his HeelRealization, has a hard time trying to call Izuku "Midoriya" instead of Deku.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: While Izuku and All Might are not related by blood (nor has the latter raised the former), chapter 48 shows how similar they are when put in an awkward situation. Both of them mused that maybe Shoto wasn't that far off when he was obsessed with the idea of them being related.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: While nobody in class 1-A knows exactly what happened between Izuku and Bakugo (except Momo) this is particularly hard for Kirishima, who can see Bakugo is distressed about it but can't help him due to being kept in the dark.
* LogicalWeakness: Nighteye's quirk lets him see events that will happen in the future, but not ''why'' they will happen. He foresees that Izuku will wildly throw objects at him in a "tantrum" when the Pro Hero provokes him but doesn't realize until too late that Izuku was intentionally boxing him in and leaving him with nowhere to run.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe:
** Momo survives a headshot by creating a kevlar layer on her forehead at the last moment. It's not perfect - while she gets out of it essentially unharmed (at least compared to BoomHeadshot), she still has to go to the hospital for a concussion.
** Later, when fighting Toga, Momo creates a body armor that gives her an edge against Toga's blades and also helps Momo resist the explosion she creates herself to finally defeat Toga.
* MamaBear: After Izuku tells his mom everything about Bakugo and how his attitude was mostly due to their middle school teachers feeding his ego, Inko called Momo's parents to ask them to buy the school and fire the whole staff.
* MeaningfulEcho: During his fight with All For One, All Might also realizes he can use his legs to combat All For One's Quirks.
* MomentOfWeakness: At the Summer Camp, Izuku ignores Bakugo's silent cry for help in favor of helping Momo, who is also getting kidnapped because Shigaraki wants revenge after she [[{{Fingore}} cut off one of his fingers]]. He later confesses to All Might that he feels like he failed as a hero. All Might, however, explains to him that it was a situation without a clear solution and that every choice he would have made could've been considered both wrong and right.
* MortonsFork:
** Once Kirishima learns about Bakugo's past bullying of Midoriya, he feels it's his duty to help his friend, as he sees he's genuinely remorseful, but he also thinks he's betraying Midoriya if doing it. So he can either stay away from Bakugo, a person who needs his help, or go ahead and feel he's betraying a good classmate. Bakugo makes things easier for him by reminding Kirishima that Izuku is an overall NiceGuy and will not be angry no matter what he decides, so Kirishima decides to help Bakugo with his atonement.
** Sir Nighteye wants to get all the students out of the Overhaul case, knowing he'll be risking their lives if they assist in the battle, and he's particularly wary about getting Izuku in danger, that his death would devastate All Might, and him losing his quirk would mean the end of One For All's legacy. However, he knows that all the students have played an important role in the case so far, and getting them out would be unfair and disrespectful of their abilities as heroes in training, plus he knows that if Izuku has to decide between ToBeLawfulOrGood, he'll choose Good every time, so he'd get involved anyway. He decides to let the students continue being involved after a serious talk with Izuku, realizing that he's fully aware of the possible consequences and taking responsibility for them.
* MyBelovedSmother: Very, very downplayed with Inko: she is very happy that Izuku got a girlfriend and genuinely likes Momo (even telling Yaoyorozu to call her by the first name), but still freaks out occasionally at the idea her son is growing up and is sexually active.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Bakugo gets several of these moments after his HeelRealization, as he investigates and realizes how badly he had affected Izuku and how his actions had been cruel at best and downright villainous at worst.
* MyGreatestSecondChance: The reason Nana gets so close to Izuku is because she wants to help him grow up as both a hero and a human being; she downright tells him that she wants to make up for abandoning her son and leaving Yagi.
* NamedByTheAdaptation: Momo's parents are named Ritchi and Yukuna.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Bakugo finds himself on the receiving end of this from Izuku in chapter 44.
* NonHumanSidekick: Nana, besides training and comforting Izuku, also acts as an extra pair of eyes during battles, warning him from enemies and attacks he doesn't see coming himself.
* NoodleIncident: Apparently, Denki ''ate'' his copy of the dorm syllabus.
-->It was a... ''long'' night.
** When All Might and Nezu are discussing Izuku, All Might mentions how dealing with the opposite sex is "just not his specialty."
--->'''Nezu:''' Last I checked, it wasn't yours either. Should I bring up 'The New Year's Incident?'
--->'''All Might:''' ...no thank you.
* NotSoDifferentRemark: After Mirio explains to Izuku about Nighteye's past, Midoriya realizes they are both products of unhappy childhoods who clung to All Might's ability to always face adversity with a smile.
* OhCrap: Izuku's reaction once he realizes that, by compromising to become Eri's legal guardian, he'd been PromotedToParent.
* OfficialCouple: Three (possibly four) so far.
** Yaoyorozu and Midoriya after Chapter 27.
** Inko and Toshinori after Chapter 34.
** Kyoka and Ochako after Chapter 35.
** [[spoiler:Aizawa and Ms. Joke sometime between the Licensing Exam and Chapter 56.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: While looking through Midoriya’s notebooks, three words in a suicide letter outline stand out to Bakugo: [[spoiler:"Go fuck yourself."]] This is a major contribution to his HeelRealization as he begins to understand just how badly his bullying has affected Izuku.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: After Midoriya shows his new [[ShockAndAwe ultimate move]], Kaminari freaks out and wonders if he is now redundant.
* ParentsAsPeople:
** Inko did her best to support and protect Izuku, but she couldn't protect him from bullying and discrimination, even when she actually reported these incidents, so Izuku eventually stopped telling her, with the pressure almost [[DrivenToSuicide driving him to suicide]].
** Katsuki's parents, on the other hand, tried to be both firm and supportive of him, encouraging his dream to become a hero while doing their best to control his temper; unfortunately, Katsuki's scholastic environment encouraged his {{Jerkass}} tendencies and FantasticAbleism, and it didn't help that Katsuki's misbehavior also got on Mitsuki's nerves, increasing her own anger issues.
* PetTheDog: Bakugo eventually apologizes for insulting Izuku's mother in order to goad him.
* PlayingWithFire: After a talk with Izuku, Momo learns to use her Creation Quirk to create the chemicals needed for combustion, allowing her to use fire to attack.
* PoliticallyCorrectVillain: Dabi quickly corrects Bakugo when he refers to Magne as a man.
* PowerPerversionPotential: The first time Izuku and Momo make love, and he reminds her that they have no protection, [[spoiler:she creates a condom inside her vagina]]. Previously, she also used her power to soundproof her bedroom, ensuring their privacy. Their stamina training also allows them to have intense lovemaking for a good while, especially considering they're both inexperienced.
* PromotedToParent:
** Izuku, once he becomes Eri's legal guardian.
** Nana sees herself as Toshi's mother and Izuku's grandma, both guys feel pretty much the same.
* RageBreakingPoint: Izuku has been putting up with Bakugo's bullying for over 10 years and never took measures against it. But the second he insulted his mom during their fight at the Sports Festival, he snaps and ''breaks his hands''.
** Momo actually brings this up in Chapter 43. [[spoiler:She's worried that, with all the crap Izuku took over the years, Bakugo will make him snap and do something bad. It finally happens in Chapter 44, with Izuku delivering a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown.]]
* ReformedBully: Yubi was one of Bakugo's goons in middle school and helped the blond torment Midoriya. When Izuku meets him again in the bookshop of Yubi's father, he apologizes (his dad forced him, but he mentioned he was going to do it anyway) and even praises Izuku for finally having a Quirk and getting into U.A.
* RejectedApology: Once Bakugo gets his HeelRealization, he tries to apologize to Izuku but the latter tells him he's not accepting the apology, mostly because he knows that, while Bakugo knows he did wrong, he still doesn't fully realize why it was wrong on the first place; Izuku is still willing to accept the apology if Bakugo makes some honest effort to correct himself but makes clear it will take time. In Chapter 50, Mitsuki tells Bakugo that he must accept the fact that, even if he fully reforms and becomes an actual hero, it's very possible that Izuku, reasonably, will still not forgive him.
* RequiredSecondaryPowers: At top power, Izuku's SuperSpeed increases to the point of entering BulletTime, but his reaction time is still a bit slower, so he needs to stop to orient himself if he runs a long distance, as he might end up missing his destination or have problems stopping in time.
* RunningGag: Izuku getting hit by old people. Also, Izuku getting teased or ''tracked'' because of his status as a WeirdnessMagnet, followed by Izuku sputtering a denial before conceding, "That's fair."
* SanitySlippage: Todoroki's obsession with proving that All Might is Midoriya's father gets worse and worse with every chapter, to the point he convinced his older sister to drive him around to stalk them. It gets to a ridiculous point in Chapter 41, where it's revealed he stole the mail of half of the students, decided those students (''his classmates'', mind you, whom he sees and interacts with ''every day'') mustn't be real (and in fact, the whole school is a front of All Might to hide his paternity), and he mistakes the paperwork for the Hero exam to be expulsion letters (so he mailed them to Siberia). He also starts talking to an invisible friend. Momo is so frightened she tells Izuku to lie and confirm All Might ''is'' his father, bringing Todoroki some peace of mind.
* SchoolBullyingIsHarmless: Averted. The fic makes a point of realistically exploring how much years of abuse, insults, and peer pressure took a heavy toll on Izuku's mind, especially in Chapter 45, when Izuku discusses his pre-Quirk life with Momo.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: Once Inko learns how most of Bakugo's personality issues didn't come from his parents but from his scholastic environment, she calls Momo's mother to ask her to [[ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney buy Izuku and Bakugo's old middle school]] and fire the staff. Chapter 50 shows that that actually happens.
* ShockAndAwe:
** Momo uses her sword and several objects she created with her Quirk to absorb and weaponize the lighting Izuku accidentally discharges when using One for All to attack Muscular.
** After a talk with Momo in Chapter 39, Izuku realizes he can use directly the electricity he discharges with One for All, making it his ultimate move.
* ShoutOut:
** The last part of the fight between Bakugo, Midoriya, and Yaoyorozu against All Might in Chapter 22 is based on the last stand of Goku, Frieza, and 17 against Jiren in ''Anime/DragonBallSuper''.
** After Magne gives him several [[GroinAttack Groin Attacks]], Bakugo whines: "Why? [[WebVideo/DragonballZAbridged Why does he keep kicking me in the dick?]]"
*** ''DBZA'' becomes a recurring reference in later chapters. Bakugo has the same [[GaggingOnYourWords physical revulsion]] to asking for help as Vegeta does, and Nana's conversation with Toshi re-enacts Nail's with Piccolo about [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext whether they'll have to move the pool table in his mind.]]
---->'''Toshinori:''' Pool ta- I almost fell for that.\
''(sound of billiards colliding)''\
'''Daigoro:''' Fell for what?
** Edgeshot turns out to be a huge video game fan and recounts the tale of "[[VideoGame/SekiroShadowsDieTwice the One-Armed Wolf]]" to Momo as a pep talk. Momo names her Odachi "[[ICallItVera Fushigiri]]" in respect to both her mentor and the game.
** Izuku manages to hit Mirio in his IntangibleMan state by quickly vibrating his own molecules. He admits that he copied that trick from [[ComicBook/TheFlash a comic book]].
** Izuku and Denki jog as part of their usual workout; Izuku [[Film/CaptainAmericaTheWinterSoldier keeps running aside Denki while completing his laps, saying 'On your left' every time.]]
** In Chapter 37 Midoriya says that the third inkblot stain looks like [[Videogame/FalloutNewVegas two bears high-fiving.]]
** The ConspiracyWall scene with Todoroki in Chapter 41 is a direct reference to [[Series/ItsAlwaysSunnyInPhiladelphia Pepe Silvia]].
---> '''Todoroki''':That right there is the mail. Now let's talk about the mail. Can we talk about the mail, please, Yaoyorozu? I’ve been dying to talk about the mail with you all day, OK?
** Mirio and Momo's banter before their sparring match in Chapter 46 references the infamous "You're approaching me?" exchange from [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureStardustCrusaders DIO and Jotaro's]] climactic battle.
** In Chapter 57, Momo creates [[ComicBook/SpiderMan a set of web-shooters]], and, in the end, manages to make ol' [[ComicBook/{{Wolverine}} Wolvie's claws]]!
* SkewedPriorities: After spending months trying to prove that All Might is Midoriya's father but having doubts due to Toshinori's presence, when Todoroki sees the two are one and the same his first reaction is to shout "Yes" and laugh like a maniac... while All Might is being pummeled by All for One.
* SpiritAdvisor: Nana, by Chapter 49, starts appearing as a ghost to Izuku, comforting, advising, and instructing him even when he's awake.
* StealthExpert: Momo after her training with Edgeshot. During her confrontation with Bakugo, she manages to disappear several times from his sight despite them being in the same room. Also, once Izuku gives her some suggestions to use her Quirk, she starts creating her own [[SmokeOut smoke clouds]], making her even more efficient.
* StepfordSmiler: After learning the AwfulTruth about her son and grandson, Nana still tries her best to smile the next time she goes to see Izuku. The boy realizes that this is unhealthy, and encourages her to show her true emotions while he comforts her; Nana finally allows herself to cry and vent her frustration and pain.
* {{Stripperific}}: {{Lampshaded}} about Momo's hero uniform when Edgeshot worries people would see him as a pervert who forced her to wear it, so he had her wear a cloak over it during her internship (as well as helping with stealth). Downplayed later when Izuku designs for her a new outfit that, while still leaving her a lot of skin for her Quirk, is somewhat less revealing.
* SuicideNote: It's revealed that Izuku wrote one in his 10th journal, back when he seriously considered [[DrivenToSuicide to end it all for good]]. The note gets removed later, but, in Chapter 50, Bakugo manages to get all of it by sketching over the indents, getting shocked by the realization of how much his bullying affected Izuku over the years.
* TakeUpMySword: Before his final battle with Overhaul, Izuku gives Momo some of his hair, so she can become the next One For All's carrier in case he doesn't survive.
* TakingTheBullet:
** In Chapter 44, Bakugo, totally furious with Izuku, attacks him from behind; Momo arrives right on time to save Izuku, taking the blast for him. [[BerserkButton Izuku doesn't take it well]].
** In Chapter 50, it's mentioned that Momo got shot; the next chapter shows that she took a headshot for Sun Eater. [[LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe She protects herself by creating a kevlar layer on her forehead, which minimizes the damage]].
** Just like in canon, Mirio is ready to take the quirk-erasing bullet to protect someone; in this case, Sir Nighteye. [[spoiler:However, Sir Nighteye performs an HeroicSacrifice to protect Mirio and gets shot anyway]].
* TeacherParentRomance: All Might and Inko begin forming one.
* TearsOfRemorse: In Chapter 50, after finding the full extent of how much he'd hurt Izuku over the years, a guilt-ridden Bakugou finally breaks crying when Mitsuki hugs him.
* TherapyIsForTheWeak:
** One of the reasons Izuku doesn't want to see a therapist is because he thinks a hero should be able to deal with his mental issues by himself or, if necessary, close friends and family instead of a random stranger; this is sadly TruthInTelevision in Japan, as there is a strong stigma attached to mental illness that discourages many people from seeking help. Another, more pragmatic reason to reject therapy, is because he'd need to reveal he was born Quirkless (as this was the reason why he was bullied and mistreated) and this would also reveal how he got One For All. Momo and All Might still insist that, if he doesn't start improving, they'll make him see a therapist.
** Averted with Bakugo; in Chapter 50, after seeing how his HeelRealization is affecting him, Mitzuki tells her son that he'll take therapy. He grunts at the idea yet doesn't argue about it.
* ThereWasADoor: At one point, Mirio tries to leave a room by phasing through a window but stops after remembering that he'll lose his clothes. [[ComicallyMissingThePoint He still jumps out the window; he just opens it first.]]
* TookALevelInJerkass: Downplayed with Izuku: he is still as kind and as heroic as always, but after his RageBreakingPoint in chapter 44 he finds himself getting irritated and annoyed much more easily than before.
* TransparentCloset: Much to her surprise, Jirou's parents figured out years ago she liked girls.
* TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening: [[spoiler:Both Izuku and Uraraka activated their second Quirk when their love interest was in danger]].
* UnclePennybags: After adopting Eri, Izuku is given a U.A. debit card for all purchases involving her. He realizes that between the card and Momo's parents' wealth, Eri will most likely wind up spoiled beyond reason.
-->'''Izuku:''' ''(about the card)'' What’s the limit I’m allowed to spend on this?\
'''Mirio:''' Apparently Aizawa asked the same thing to Nezu, [[EvilLaugh and all he did was laugh.]]
* UptownGirl: Downplayed with Momo. While Izuku and Inko aren't shown to be poor, it's just that the Yaoyorozus are among the wealthiest families in Japan.
* UninhibitedMusclePower: Thanks to Mei's support gear, Izuku can use 100% of his power without restrictions.
* VetinariJobSecurity: {{Inverted|Trope}}. All Might tells Rock Lock after one too many disrespectful comments that Uraraka can essentially replicate his power set, so he can be replaced if he doesn't stop.
* VillainHasAPoint: All Might admits that All for One's criticisms about his teaching are correct and that he didn't do enough to help Midoriya control One for All.
* VillainTakesAnInterest: All For One decides to offer Izuku the chance of becoming his successor. Not only does he see Midoriya as a better leader than Shigaraki, but he also believes that someone tormented and bullied for years for being Quirkless would easily see things his way.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: In Chapter 41, Yaoyorozu breaks into Bakugo's room to order him to not ruin Midoriya's chance to get his temporary Hero license, even threatening him with her new [[PlayingWithFire ultimate move]].
* WeCanRuleTogether: All for One offers Midoriya the role of his successor. Not only he is sure he would be a perfect choice, but stealing All Might's heir would be a crippling blow to his enemy.
* WhamLine:
** PlayedForLaughs in Chapter 48. After Nighteye uses his Quirk on Izuku ([[TheStationsOfTheCanon to see if he'll intern at his agency]]), he tells All Might... Something kinda personal about the boy's future.
---> '''Nighteye''': I also saw his future. He gets laid next week.\
'''All Might''': Well good for- [[DoubleTake Hold up. What?]]
** Played much more seriously when Bakugo reads Izuku's old SuicideNote in Chapter 50, with Izuku's final message for his old tormentor ([[spoiler:'''"Go fuck yourself."''']]) hitting him like a bomb.
* WhatTheHellHero: After Rock Lock continues demeaning the students assisting in the Overhaul case, All Might finally has enough of his attitude, and reminds him of how capable they are and how much they've already helped with the case, making it clear that, if he doesn't start being more respectful, Rock Lock will be the one kicked out of the whole operation. It works well enough so Rock Lock keeps his comments to himself through the rest of the meeting.
* WholeEpisodeFlashback: Chapter 45; most of it is composed of Midoriya's narration of his experiences as a bullying victim, presented as flashbacks.
* WhyCantIHateYou: Subverted; it's Yaoyorozu who wonders how Midoriya didn't end up hating Bakugo after learning how much the blond tormented him since they were four and why he still considers him a friend. She even compares it to StockholmSyndrome.
* WolverineClaws: Momo, taking inspiration from Izuku's old comic books, replicates the TropeNamer's claws, replacing the adamantium with a tungsten alloy.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre:
** Momo and Izuku's relationship starts when he helps her recover from her loss at the Sports Festival, reminding her of her abilities and qualities, and suggesting ideas to improve herself. Later, much of Momo's support for Izuku consists of cutting his self-deprecation and reminding him not just how great of a person he is, but also what a wonderful hero he's turning into; All Might and Inko do the same to a lesser extent.
** Izuku convinces Eri that her quirk isn't a curse but a gift, and that, unlike anything Chisaki has been telling her, she's not responsible for all the people he has injured. His point is later proven further when Eri starts to unfuse Chisaki's fusion one by one: while her Rewind does still needs to be controlled, it can also be applied to save lives.
* YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry: Izuku is almost unstoppable when someone hits his BerserkButton. In Chapter 51, it's shown that the same applies to Kirishima.
