Rayman Legacy is an expansion of VideoGame/RaymanRedemption, itself an enhanced remake of the original Rayman game. The story is largely the same as Redemption, up until the point where the player reaches The Final Showdown. Rather than it being a single level, it's composed of four levels, much like the previous seven worlds (including The Lonely Cliff, which is expanded to be a full level). Once Mr. Dark is defeated, Rayman has "saved the world", and attained 100% completion, the gift box at the top of the map explodes, revealing a mysterious portal. Jumping into it takes Rayman into a DarkWorld where the sky is red (much like it is in Redemption after Mr. Dark steals The Great Protoon) where the entire second half of the game awaits.

* AdaptationExpansion:
** The final level of Redemption is expanded into an entire world, making things more difficult. The 8th medallion is split into four pieces, rather than two.
** The Magician's Challenges are altered slightly. The Breakout minigame is included as part of these challenges, as opposed to being unlocked after Dark Legacy. The True Boss Rush no longer exists, since the upgraded bosses from it have been transplanted into the DarkWorld. The "final challenge" has been cut out as well and made into its own world in the Valley of Nightmares.
** Instead of unlocking Dark Legacy after finishing the main game, you unlock a whole new dimension where the first world is basically Dark Legacy.
** The VideoGame/Rayman3 power-ups are added and incorporated into the level design of the DarkWorld (previously seen in Rayman Redesigner).
** There is a bonus world in the Valley of Nightmares that's based on the level from the Magician's Challenges with the red background that has cages hanging in the background.
** The Mosquito levels in the Valley of Nightmares are replaced with Dark Rayman levels, where the objective is to reach the LevelGoal without Dark Rayman catching up to you.
* ColourCodedForYourConvenience: The medallions found in the Valley of Nightmares are colour-coded thusly:
** Dark Forest: Dark Red
** Dark Sonata: Indigo
** Dark Peaks: Orange
** Dark Gallery: Black
** Dark Depths: Lime Green
** Dark Factory: Bronze
** Dark Carnival: Sliver
** Dark Finale: Gold
* DarkWorld: The portal sends Rayman to a dark dimension known as the Valley of Nightmares after fully completing the Valley of Dreams. It doesn't have cages or Magician's Challenges, but it does have medallions (much like the original world) that are required to progress to the next world.
* MythologyGag: Dark Sonata, in addition to the music theme, also takes place in a desert, much like "The Desert of The Digeridoos" from VideoGame/RaymanOrigins, which combines music-themed levels and desert-themed levels.
* NintendoHard: In Redemption, Dark Legacy was an insanely BrutalBonusLevel. This game adds a new dimension where the first world is the game's equivalent of Dark Legacy, and it only gets harder from there.
* RedSkyTakeWarning: The Valley of Nightmares has a red sky 24/7, to symbolize its dark nature.
* ThemeNaming: All worlds in the Valley of Nightmares have the word "dark" in the name:
** Dream Forest's equivalent is Dark Forest.
** BandLand's equivalent is Dark Sonata.
** Blue Mountains' equivalent is Dark Peaks.
** Picture City's equivalent is Dark Gallery.
** Cave of Skops' equivalent is Dark Depths.
** Playtopia's equivalent is Dark Factory.
** Candy Chateau's equivalent is Dark Carnival.
** The Final Showdown's equivalent is Dark Finale.
** Dark Legacy's equivalent (from Redemption) is Dark Despair.
