3Anthony Robert Kushner (born July 16, 1956 in New York City) is an American playwright and screenwriter best known for writing the [[UsefulNotes/PulitzerPrize Pulitzer Prize-winning]] ''Theatre/AngelsInAmerica'' and its subsequent [[Series/AngelsInAmerica miniseries adaptation]], as well as various other plays and screen works.

5Born in Manhattan, Kushner's family moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he spent most of his childhood, becoming active in local politics as a high schooler. He moved back to New York to attend Columbia University, and later began writing and directing plays during graduate school.

7Kushner was given the National Medal of Arts by UsefulNotes/BarackObama in 2013. He has been married to film critic and scholar Mark Harris since 2008.
