3Ivan Reitman [[UsefulNotes/KnightFever OC]] (October 27, 1946 – February 12, 2022) was a Czechoslovak-born Canadian film director and producer.

5He was born in Komárno, Czechoslovakia (now UsefulNotes/{{Slovakia}}) to Hungarian Jewish parents; his father was a [[LaResistance resistance]] fighter during UsefulNotes/WorldWarII, while his mother was an [[UsefulNotes/TheHolocaust Auschwitz]] survivor. His family moved to Canada when he was four. He was best known for the comedies he directed (especially in TheEighties and TheNineties), such as ''Film/{{Stripes}}'', the first two ''Franchise/{{Ghostbusters}}'' films, ''Film/Twins1988'' and ''Film/KindergartenCop''. As a producer, he was behind things like ''Film/SpaceJam''.

7He was married to Geneviève Robert from 1976 to his death, and had three children. His son Creator/JasonReitman became a respected filmmaker in his own right, with Ivan serving as producer for many of his films. His daughter Creator/CatherineReitman is an actress.

9He passed away in his sleep on February 12, 2022, at the age of 75.
