3 | The Codemasters Software Company Limited, trading as simply Codemasters, is a British video game developer and publisher founded in 1986 by Richard and David Darling. In their early years, they mostly published budget games for 8-bit computers such as the Platform/ZXSpectrum and Platform/Commodore64. Many of their early releases had "Simulator" or "Stuntman" in their titles, though practically none of these had any relation to each other or qualified as {{Simulation Game}}s (which those were Codemasters' first attempts back then, due to hardware limitations). They also entered the Platform/NintendoEntertainmentSystem market through Camerica, who published them as an unlicensed third-party, as well creating CheatCode devices like MediaNotes/GameGenie and MediaNotes/AladdinDeckEnhancer. Later they were known for the ''VideoGame/ColinMcRaeRally'' series and other motorsports titles, also known for get the UsefulNotes/FormulaOne {{license|dGame}} since TheNewTens. In 2020, Creator/TakeTwoInteractive announced its intention to buy Codemasters but by December of that year, Creator/ElectronicArts outbid Take-Two with an $1.2 billion offer to buy them which led to Take-Two giving up in January of that year with the sale to EA being completed on February 2021. |
