Recurrent characters that appear in almost all games and related material from the ''VideoGame/TengaiMakyou'' series.

!!Paul Hieronymus Chada
[[quoteright:214:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chada_6760.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:214:Totally [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial NOT]] Karl Marx]]
This guy deserves special mention, despite not being an in-game character per se, as he's the "person" whose "book", ''Far East of Eden'', the whole series is based of, and Creator/HudsonSoft, Red Entertaiment and Ouji Hiroi decided to adapt into a videogame. The only thing we know about him is the fact he was an American sociologist and historian born in the 19th century, but it's never explained how the hell he got all those chronicles about Jipang, other than the fact that he was an orientalist working in the Smithsonian Museum.
----
* AuthorAvatar: Of Ouji Hiroi, Hudson Soft and Red Entertaiment (and also {{Creator/Konami}} by default, as they absorbed Hudson Soft later)
* {{Expy}}: Of Creator/KarlMarx and UsefulNotes/SigmundFreud.
* MetaFiction: He wrote ''Far East of Eden'', whose chronicles inspired the programmers in creating the whole franchise, even if that book has the same level of credibility as [[Franchise/CthulhuMythos the Necronomicon]].
* OccidentalOtaku: Sort of, due to his job.
* PunnyName: His name, written as P.H. Chada is an elaborate pun of one of Ouji Hiroi's pseudonyms and his own's ('''P'''rince (Ouji) '''H'''iroshi Adachi, when ''Chada'' is a misspelling of ''Adachi'' written backwards)[[note]]For the record, Ouji Hiroi's real name is Teruhisa Hiroi.[[/note]]
----
!!Manto
[[quoteright:256:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/manto_8161.gif]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/ShigeruChiba
A talking and sentient (somewhat) immortal baboon, who has lived for centuries, but it is more than obvious his immortality has turned him into a idiot. His role in all the games of the series is mostly is being one of the many villains the heroes have to defeat, except that his plans always end backfiring badly, but when he gets serious, he can be a ''[[NintendoHard real pain to beat]]''.
----
* ButtMonkey: Both figuratively and ''literally''.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}
* ImmortalImmaturity: Centuries of life has certainly damaged his mental health.
* KillerGorilla: Well, he's a baboon, but still.
* ManiacMonkeys
* {{Shoryuken}}: He can use one of these in ''Kabuki Klash''.
* SNKBoss: In ''Kabuki Klash''
* StupidEvil: He can a extremely dangerous foe... if only he had enough ''gray matter'' for that.
* {{Troll}}: He loves to make fun of you, especially in his victory quotes in ''Kabuki Klash''.
----
!!The Ashimoto Brothers and Mr. Ashimoto
[[quoteright:256:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ashimoto_5981.gif]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KazukiYao
A group of CampGay brothers who always tries to swindle our heroes in almost every game, but just like Manto, they always end failing for whatever reason.
----
* CampGay: An ''entire family'' of them.
* {{Creepy Crossdresser}}s: They're one of the few characters in the franchise who are dressed with something that resembles traditional Japanese clothing, but on the other hand, they're all dressed like ''geishas''.
----
!!Hoteimaru
[[quoteright:256:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hotei_727.gif]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/TakeshiAono
A Catholic priest who ends up in Jipang when his ship sinks due to a storm and now he has to live there, albeit this was his idea from a beginning, since he wanted to visit Jipang to evangelize their people.
----
* TheCameo: He appears dancing in Orochimaru's stage in ''Kabuki Klash''
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}
* {{Expy}}: Technically, he's a goofy parody of both [[{{Literature/Shogun}} John Blackthorne/Anjin-san]] and the Spaniard missionary Francis Xavier, one of the first missionaries to travel to Japan, having similar backgrounds to both, but PlayedForLaughs.
* FunnyForeigner: Albeit with good intentions.
* GratuitousEnglish: He speaks mixing Japanese with English in a very hilarious way.
* NonSpecificallyForeign: We don't know from which country he's from and "Hoteimaru" is obviously '''not''' his real name, but it's heavily implied that he's from Europe.
* OccidentalOtaku: He always wanted to go to Jipang and he tries to blend with their society, with hilarious results.
