Sometimes it's a joke, sometimes it's a criticism. Whatever the case, WebVideo/{{Phelous}} has come up with a large amount of [[AlternativeCharacterInterpretation depictions and perceptions]] of the characters in the movies and TV shows he's reviewed.
----
* In his review of ''Film/{{Anaconda}}'', Phelous theorizes that the reason the anaconda is attacking isn't because it's hungry, but because Jon Voight has been strangling people with his legs and framing the snake and because Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube [[RunningGag were the heroes]].
* Benzaie and Phelous both believe the Professor in ''Humains'' drags his son along on the expedition because he hates him and just hopes he'll die at some point.
* In his Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde review, he suggests that Lanyon died not because of the [[GoMadFromTheRevelation maddening revelation]], but rather because [[TooDumbToLive he snorted some rat poison he found in Jekyll's cabinet]]. [[TakeAThirdOption Or maybe]] it was because [[RunningGag of that conversation he and Jekyll had]].
** He also portrays the Nanny as a psychopath who nonchalantly tells horrifying tales of murder to children.
* Series/MortalKombatConquest:
** In his review of the episode ''Thicker than Blood'', he believes that Scorpion is in love with Siro's brother Cassar, and the reason why he kills said brother by the end of the episode is because he broke his heart by leaving him for the good guys.
** While Siro is presented as one of the protagonists who is flawed but ultimately still a hero, Phelous sees him In-Universe as an asshole who becomes more unlikable by each episode.
** He also often expresses the idea that Kung Lao is a lazy bum who would rather spend time doing stupid antics with Siro and Taja than take his responsibilities as the Mortal Kombat champion and training fighters for the next tournament.
* In ''Pulse 3'', suggests that Justine's bad attitude towards everyone, being a ZombieAdvocate, destroying the cure for the internet ghosts because ''one'' guy was a dick to her, simply proves that she's her mother's daughter. Her mother being an unstable, neglectful parent who tried to ''murder'' her.
* In his review of [=GoodTimes=]' ''[[TheMockbuster Beauty and the Beast]]'' he sees the BumblingDad who's a bit dim but ultimately loves his daughter as a selfish, entitled, stupid and emotionally manipulative {{Jerkass}} who guilts his daughter into a possible deadly situation and reaps the benefits of poor business dealings and incompetent parenthood.
** Beauty, meanwhile, is interpreted as being a vapid airhead who started falling for the Beast simply because he decided not to kill her.
* [[FanNickname King Mah God]] from ''Lion and the King'' is depicted as a [[TheStoner stoner]].
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheRealGhostbusters'' ''Literature/AChristmasCarol'' episode "X-Mas Marks the Spot," Phelous remarks that the real villain is the butcher who gave Cratchit and his family the smallest bird possible, since it's so tiny that it could have been a baby pigeon. And it was an accomplishment to being even more evil than ''the actual Scrooge'' in the episode.
* In his "Cricket on the Hearth" review, he believes that the reason why Caleb was in such a merry mood when conversing with the titular cricket (who speaks in this adaptation) was because of the knowledge that his daughter's fiance was leaving to serve a two-year tour of duty in the Royal Navy.
** Similarly, he decides that Cricket Crockett is a {{Jerkass}} who brings Caleb's family nothing but bad luck (or at least saves all the luck for himself).
* The figures shown on Bootleg Zones are constantly subject to this. For instance:
** One of the Turtles Fighters is actually a powerful and malevolent [[OurDemonsAreDifferent demon]].
** [[Franchise/{{Batman}} Bat Hero]] is a FailureHero ButtMonkey who never does anything right. (In fact, this goes for most of the cheap superhero KO figures)
** [[Franchise/{{Barbie}} Steffi Love]] is a supervillainess with a Cockney accent who's also Bat Hero's FetishizedAbuser.
** [[Franchise/{{Superman}} Specialman]] is a mentally handicapped HeroWithAnFInGood.
** [[Franchise/MastersOfTheUniverse The Galaxy Warriors/Galaxy Fighters]] are perfectly okay with having multiple versions of themselves running around. Oh, and Baltard is [[RunningGag the biggest loser on the planet Ferror.]]
* According to his ''WesternAnimation/MagicGiftOfTheSnowman'' review, Snowden is a pedophile and Princess Electra is a tyrant who uses mind control on her subjects.
* Maria from the Anime ''Beauty and the Beast'' is a {{troll}} whose request for a rose was actually her messing with her father.
** Her father in return is really a violent psychopath. Even [[EvenEvilHasStandards Old Man is bothered by him]].
* In his review of ''Film/PromNightIIITheLastKiss'', he paints the alleged "likeable hero" Alex as a VillainProtagonist who cheats on his girlfriend with no hesitation, is completely unconcerned about Mary Lou's murder except for self-preservation and never gets called out on it in the film proper. As such he doesn't see the ending with [[spoiler: Alex stuck down in Hell]] as a downer ending but a cathartic one.
* In his review of Goodtimes' ''[[WesternAnimation/CinderellaJetlagProductions Cinderella]]'', he doesn't buy that Cinderella's father ignored the cruel actions of his new wife and daughters towards Cinderella, instead thinking he's actively allowing them to abuse Cinderella. [[spoiler: Even [[EnsembleDarkhorse Old Man]] thinks that her father [[EvenEvilHasStandards is terrible]] in TheStinger.]]
* He interprets Old Bush from the Creator/DingoPictures version of Pocahontas to be a bloodthirsty (figuratively and literally) monstrous [[BotanicalAbomination abomination]].
* He interprets the kid lead from ''Pulse 1980'' as suicidally depressed.
* According to him, the incarnation of Esmeralda from Burbank's second adaptation of ''The Hunchback of Notre Dame'' actually ''is'' a witch.
* The voice-over he gives for the lamp in his ''{{Film/Amityville|TheEvilEscapes}} 4'' review depicts the lamp as a PsychopathicManchild who does everything ForTheEvulz because "no one suspects '''the lamp!'''" Also, the lamp [[LukeIAmYourFather really is Nancy's husband and the father of her children]].
** Much like the ''Dr. Jekyll'' example listed above, he questions if [[NauseaFuel the tar and sewage in the plumbing]] was really due to the lamp's influence and suspects it was actually because the sinks apparently lead to a dead-end pipe.
* In his review of ''Nice Cats'', he speculates that Ms. [=McDonald=] is actually trying to get away from a violent group of rabbits.
* The father in the ''Little Angels'' is a neglectful father who left his kids in a hovel in the middle of nowhere and leaves them to die in the cold. With the nearest town being pretty far away and unable to be reached without climbing a mountain and crossing a dangerous river.
* One-Eye from the [=GoodTimes=] adaptation of ''Literature/WhiteFang'' is an incompetent buffoon who is constantly mocked by his mate and offspring for his numerous failures as a hunter.
* He interprets the Dingo version of Balto as a callous jerk who's obsessed with diamonds and doesn't care if children die, partly because he has the same voice as the Black Panther from "Lion and the King".
* According to him, the Jetlag version of Snow White isn't just naïve and innocent but outright TooDumbToLive.
** He also thinks the MagicMirror should be considered an accessory to the Queen's murder attempts, since it proved that it ''did'' have the power to stop her at the end.
* In his review of ''WesternAnimation/RapsittieStreetKidsBelieveInSanta'', he suggests Ricky deliberately dropped his letter to SantaClaus in Nicole's yard to guilt-trip her.
* He repeatedly suggests that the main characters of ''WesternAnimation/TheChristmasLight'' and its sequel are a bunch of sociopathic [[BitchInSheepsClothing Bitches in Sheep's Clothing]]; particularly Isaac the [[ChristmasElves elf]] and SantaClaus, who would have outright killed someone had it not been for the intervention of [[MoralityChain Jennifer]]. He also suggests a handful of times that Burton's HeelFaceTurn was possibly due to brain damage/mental trauma from the multiple painful situations he gets himself into in ''Light'' (falling into his toy machine, [[LiterallyShatteredLives shattered to pieces]], transforming into the [[{{snowlems}} snowman]] BigBad, and [[ImMelting melting]] as Jennifer talks him down).
* He accuses Bevanfield's portrayal of Goldilocks in their ''Three Little Bears'' adaptation of being a [[WalkingDisasterArea destructive]] IdiotHoudini DesignatedHero who ultimately ended up making life worse for the bears (she somehow ends up causing ''structural damage to the entire house'' just from running around in a blind panic after being found by the bears) no matter how much the story tries to paint her as just an innocent but clumsy girl who cannot help the trouble she causes. It doesn't help that the story (intentionally or not) implies a few times that Goldilocks is fully aware of how destructive her "visit" to the bears' house is.
* He took pretty much every character in ''WesternAnimation/GrandmaGotRunOverByAReindeer'' [[WorldOfJerkass to be an idiot and/or jerkass in some form or fashion]]. For example:
** Grandma herself is a big time [[TheDitz ditz]].
** Austin Bucks is a CorruptCorporateExecutive who is trying to take over the city.
** The rest of the Spankenheimer family sans Jake and Cousin Mel are oblivious and/or apathetic to losing Grandma.
** Cousin Mel is the UnintentionallySympathetic OnlySaneMan.
* When the merchant in the Ruby-Spears Beauty and the Beast has all of his of his cargo taken from him by his creditors, Phelous believes that the merchant intended to run off and never pay any of them back and that all of his misfortune is actually [[LaserGuidedKarma divine punishment]].
** Meanwhile, he sees the Beast as someone who [[ManipulativeBastard emotionally manipulates Beauty]] by repeatedly asking her to marry him and [[DreamWeaver invading her dreams in his human form to talk himself up to her]]. He also finds it laughable when he accuses Beauty of being unkind to him when he had kidnapped her from her family because of a rose and his only good deeds were, not killing her and making her dinner. Finally, he doesn't believe that Beast actually [[BrokenAesop learned his lesson about judging appearances, as he was only attracted to Beauty because of her looks]].
