One was a journalist himself, for a UK music magazine, so he got paid to junket all over the world chasing ska and blues artists. And they really are all over the world. He was a white, blue-collar Cockney with a black wife, talked me into lunch at a kosher restaurant with his Hasidic friend — really, I saw no signs of racism in him.
