Xi Whoeverski: Apparently the illegality of commercial whaling is not as widely known as I thought. In fact, commercial whaling is illegal (yes, I know Wikipedia isn't the best source). I'm posting this here to avoid further misunderstandings on the page regarding Japanese Whaling.

Rogue 7: You need to brush up on your international law. It's very difficult to say that something internationally is outright illegal- it's a very difficult subject to apply jurisdictions to, there's problems of enforcement, etc. Japan is most likely in violation of IWC standards, but that doesn't make what they're doing illegal, and the environmental group has absolutely no authority or jurisdiction to enforce the ban on whaling at all.

Xi Whoeverski: I admit I'm no expert at international law, and my views are a reflection of the values of my country, which is opposed to whaling and has had Japanese whaling carried out in its own waters despite our government's stance against the activity. I think that putting any politically-charged comment on the main page (which I admittedly did in reactionary annoyance earlier) is probably best avoided, though. Not that there have been many such comments so far, but mocking one side will probably cause the other to argue in response, and this page is about a show, not whaling itself.
