Tanto: The only people who thought Nintendo would go third-party are the dumb fanboys. Nintendo has always been profitable, even during the lean N64 and Gamecube years, because it profits from console sales instead of selling them at a loss and making it back on games like the other companies do. (The Gamecube actually made more of a profit than the original Xbox, despite "losing" the Console Wars to it.) Never mind that Nintendo has never not controlled the portable market. The only way Nintendo goes third-party is if they want to.

Gizensha: Which they explicitly don't. To the point that, iirc, they responded to the rumours that they might be going third party with a statement that if they stop making hardware it will be because they've left the videogame industry. Presumably going back to being a playing card manufacturer... Not that they don't still make playing cards, it's just rare that playing card manufacturing produces anything news worthy. The limited edition solid gold deck they did to celebrate an anniversary year being an exception.

GameGuruGG: While anyone who actually did research knew Nintendo wouldn't go third-party, the mere fact there WERE rumors that Nintendo had to publicly make a statement to deny means that it IS true that gamers thought Nintendo would go third-party. The statement itself is essentially Nintendo saying that if they couldn't make a profit on the video games industry DESPITE selling their consoles and games for a PROFIT, they would leave because VIDEO GAMES WOULD BE TOO UNPROFITABLE FOR EVEN THEM TO SAVE!

Starscream: Why in God's name is there no comment about the naming controversy?

R.G. : The sad fact is, many third party developers would rather make games for the PS 3 and the XBOX360.Meaning there's not going to be any Grand Theft Autos or Brutal Legends or even Burnouts for the Wii.So it doesn't sound Nintendo won the Console Wars to me.Matter of fact,it sounds like just the opposite. No matter how many consoles you sell, without any third party support,it looks like Sony and Microsoft once again beat Nintendo.
