Ununnilium: I don't get the Wacky Races example.
Corahs Uncle: Here's a paraphrase of the dialog from that scene (I don't know how to make a line break without also making a paragraph break):
Announcer: Peter Perfect's Turbo Terrific is out in front with a long, long lead. But the Arkansas Chugabug is trying to pass him!
Peter (looking around): Where? Where?
Andyzero That sorta confuses me too, it sounds like the person who gave the example just took "Where where?" literally." This is a case where a monster looks for the monster people are afraid of, not realizing they are the monster.
Corahs Uncle: I must have misunderstood. I'll remove the Wacky Races example, as long as it doesn't fit the description of the trope.
Red Shoe: There's a variation that I'm not sure counts: the monster in question isn't really a monster or even monsterous but has just, say, recently fallen into a barrel of flour or phosphorescent paint, or had a sheet draped over his head. This might be exclusive to Scooby-Doo.
Ununnilium: I'd say that works. I've seen it a couple other places as well, though I can't recall where off the top of my head.
Kilyle: "Dated"? I swear I've seen this in dozens of places - just can't think of many specific instances offhand. I think at least once in Freefall but I'm not sure there, and also in Girl Genius (Krosp, when "Agatha" reacts to seeing a talking cat in Sturmhalten).
