Working Title: Welcome Back Traitor: From YKTTW
Runespoor I'm removing Zelos from the Tales Of Symphonia example and qualifying the other example from the same game. This trope specifically doesn't apply to Fake Defectors. The only story line in which Zelos is alive and thus can return has him as a Fake Defector. I'm not sure the other example isn't a Fake Defector as well; someone who's more certain about the character might want to look into it.
Lord Seth: Does Garibaldi from Babylon Five really count? He wasn't a traitor by choice, he was being manipulated telepathically in a Xanatos Roulette by Bester.
Kizor: If the universe goes wonky and I somehow end up designing a jRPG, I'll have a defector cripple La Résistance and almost get the party killed. She'll crawl her way back after the dust settles, swearing loyalty, bringing her overlord's evaile artifact with her. The party leader'll take it, test it, thank her, and shoot her dead. He'll point out that they have trouble enough in saving the world without having to deal with her faked-or-non-faked loyalties.
Do I make her the leader's or the lancer's love interest? Decisions, decisions...
