Ununnilium: I disagree on Doom. Your goal isn't to survive yourself, it's to kill all the monsters. (Well, not quite, but it still doesn't count IMHO.)
Ununnilium: Not all Survival Horror games are postapocalyptic, or involve zombies. And I'd say that they're really a separate genre from Xth person shooters. It's a blend of that with horror-based atmosphere and plot, plus puzzle solving, plus some Stealth Game elements.

Sean Tucker: Would Doom 3 count? It has a more Survival Horror atmosphere than the first two. Direct combat is required, but you can't go in with Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann level reckless abandon, or you'll get obliterated. The flow of enemies is somewhat less than the first two, generally speaking. And last but not least, the game tends to scare the living piss out of people.
