From YKTTW

LO Rd: Jesus Christ, is that page quote for real? I find it hard to believe someone would actually publish what essentially amounts to a coolface.jpg in written form directed at all Avatar shippers out there.

Adam850: Gah! if you're use an image, upload it (no leeching) and resize it! Not even sure that is the best image for this, but whatever.

Citizen: I don't see what's so teasing about the picture. Whoever put the "This is seriously Not What It Looks Like." caption is seriously overreacting.

Cassius335: Eh, as long as it keeps the Zutara shippers quiet...

Chuckg: The caption makes a lot more sense if you've seen the season 2 finale of Avatar The Last Airbender. (Check the spoilers under 'Heel Face Turn' on the linked page if you're curious.)

Lale: "In many a series, where the writers don't want pesky romance to get in the way of the "more important" comedy and/or action elements, pure, shallow, repetetive ship teasing is used entirely to hold the fans over until the very end of the show when they can envoke a Last-Minute Hookup and call it a day." That's not teasing a ship, that's bad writing, which anyone, including but not limited to shippers, will find annoying.
Jisu: Geez, are we going to have another ship war? For the record, I thought I was being perfectly fair, but as I said (in one of the first reverted edits), Feinano has more fans and therefore I'm going to get mobbed regardless...
Rogue 7: I'm not sure if it really counts as ship tease, which is why I'm putting it here, but, in Naruto the sheer number of scenes that Shikamaru and Temari have together (and yes, I do like the couple), strikes me as pretty good ship tease.
Cassius335: Conversation In The Main Page

  • The Following Ship teases from the trailer, Aang/Zuko, Zuko/Katara, Zuko/Sokka, Sokka/Suki, and Sokka/Toph.
  • I've seen the trailer, and frankly, judging from the rest of all those trailers and their ship teases, I'm not taking a single bit of it until I've seen the entire episodes.
  • I almost feel sorry for the Zutarians. The new trailer has two consecutive scenes consisting of Katara pulling away when Aang tries to kiss her, and then Katara hugging Zuko. It's almost definitly not real (the Zutara, I mean), but seriously, the creators seem to take a pervese joy in messing with Zuko / Katara shippers.
  • They're kinda asking for it. Seriously, what they're thinking is beyond me: While Aang and Katara have spent the entire series together, forming a very strong friendhip as well as confirmed romantic feelings at the very least from Aang's side, Katara and Zuko have had one blackmail with a family jewel, two battles to near-death, one five-minutes alone in a cave, and one death threat. A romance between the two would require at least two seasons worth of extremely heavy character development - Since we only have six episodes left, we could practically bury the entire pairing already.

Thanks to whoever killed the Straw Sue. That Luna-hating had nothing to do with Ship Tease. I come across it yesterday, wanted to delete it myself, but wasn't sure if I can. I have issues with editing other people texts, especially when I'm angry and biased (I like Luna).

(No, really - did I miss "Every character you don't like are obviously Sues and Stus" meme?)

Meta4: Removed some natter from the Gunnerkrigg Court example. The shippers are there in the fandom, regardless of whether you or I agree with them. (For the record, I don't.)
  • Gunnerkrigg Court: Certain fans have noted a few incidents of Les Yay subtext between Annie and Kat. Other fans have noted text that seems to contradict it (namely, that both characters have encouraged the other's crush on some third party). And then there's this page, which simultaneously plays up the subtext and undermines it by putting it in the mouth of the resident Deadpan Snarker Jerkass. Whatever Tom Siddell has planned for the characters, he seems to enjoy messing with the fans' heads in the meantime.

Rogue 7: I vote a return to the Avatar picture. The Backyardigans is a preschool show unless I'm very much mistaken. Shipping there doesn't strike me as particularly healthy.

Charred Knight: I am with you on this one

Midonin: The guy who did this - Timotemon - pulled off a similarly bizarre image switch on Ms. Fanservice. I'd keep an eye on them in case something like this happens again.

Rogue 7: I smell Troll.

Maureen Mac Donald: I edited out the comment about how the Doctor can't have Ship Tease with humans because he's so much more advanced than them. a) The whole argument about how "Time Lord + Human = bestiality" has been kicking around so long that it's almost self parody, so I smelled someone making trouble. b) A misleading kiss in a trailer is a fairly textbook case of Ship Tease, regardless of whether someone out there finds the concept icky.
