Noaqiyeum: All right, what's the name of the Chesterton story mentioned at the end?

john_e: The Absence of Mr Glass

Steven Howard: Deleted irrelevant paragraph about Columbo:

  • Lieutenant Columbo (played by crumpled-faced Peter Falk from 1968-2003) pretends to be a jovial, bumbling absentminded detective in an old trenchcoat and rickety old car. A lot of criminals, even thought they know Columbo is from the homicide squad (after all, he tells them so), fall for the harmless façade and think he's easy to fool. Even those criminals who are suspicious of the "nice bumbling cop" routine, or who have heard of Columbo and think they can outwit him, eventually get maneuvered into a position where they slip up, make a mistake and reveal too much. Columbo is fond of letting people dig their own graves in front of witnesses, all the while quietly assembling evidence against them. Like Monk, Columbo never uses a gun or threatens suspects.

The link to the scans of the comic-books where Captain America is cited to have used this on Spider Man is now a dead link, likely LJ suspended the Scansdaily group for copyright infringement.. bastards.
