what is "dark and lonely waters" supposed to be saying exactly?

It's supposed to be a warning to be careful around water, as it can be deeper and more dangerous that it appears.

what kind of :Relax-o-Vision: message is that that it warrents a :Relax-o-Vision: reaper?

Ununnilium: This makes me realize that we need an entry for the Instructional Short, as well.

Silent Hunter: The Christian thing still continues in the States in the form of "Hell Houses".

Outsyder0486: Yikes, I remember the Driver's Ed crossbow one. But that one, unlike a lot of these, actually happened. I remember watching the interview with the guy, and all he could say was stuff like "I'm sorry that this happened". Not a nice guy.

Your Obedient Serpent thinks Outsyder should add a comment to that example on the main page, with links to Truth in Television, and possibly even an external link to the actual event.

Ununnilium: I really want to put a link to this article in, but I'm not sure how to work it into the entry: http://slog.thestranger.com/2007/09/crystal_mess

Silent Hunter: I was watching an episode of Without A Trace yesterday, in which a bunch of high school children were taken to visit juvi hall (where they were told by the missing person about the fatal crash she'd apparently caused). It was referred to as Scare 'Em Straight. Does this happen in RL?
thatother1dude: I couldn't tell, does that Every 15 Minutes thing inform the students beforehand, or are they really that messed up? Also, I would like to add that the "someone dies from alcohol-related accidents ever 15 minutes" in the title is actually twice the real number when "alcohol-related" means having anyone involved up having a blood-acohol 1/8 the legal limit.

BT The P: Accidents are the number one cause of death among teenagers, more so in towns with low homicide rates, like where these programs take place. Alcohol increases accidents. It's the prerogative of teachers and parents to tell the young people they care about to not do things that increase the risk of death. Seems cut-and-dried.

When "Every 15 Minutes" came to my school, there were four of my classmates in the scene, played out on the football field. 15 minutes on the game clock. An ambulance collected one student, a police car collected the (relatively unhurt) driver, a helicopter (!) landed on the fifty to collect a third, and the local undertaker took the fourth. Then, a weepy, pre-recorded Dead Man Walking speech from the "dead" girl came on the PA system. Creepy as hell. Of course, I'm not a drinker, but I have all kinds of crazy ideas. Like how my self-esteem was fine, everyone else's was just too high. </BT The P>

That Other 1 Dude: Removed:

That wasn't about The War On Terror, it was about a UNICEF movement to rehabilitate children who used a soldiers in Burundi and the Congo. It was also aired at a timeslot where children wouldn't have seen it.
