Tanto: All right. The launch of Our Dragons Are Different seemed as good a time as any to break away the real trope behind Our Vampires Are Different ("Creator sets rules for monsters") away from the specific vampire-related verbiage on the actual page (damn you, literal-minded tropers!), hence this page. Someone should probably go through all the Wicks to Our Vampires Are Different and change the ones that don't specifically refer to vampires, but that someone is not going to be me.

Gracie Lizzie: Should Witch Species go here too?

Pk Mario: Um...I think so, it fits.

Indigo: We don't have one for ghosts?

Tanto: You can make one, you know. This is a wiki — "user edited" and all.

Indigo: I had the feeling you were gonna say that. Heh. Okay. On it. Done!

  • Aren't theese really a breed of dead horse (or dead unicorn, or undead horse... I'm not sure)? Our monsters are different - **from what?** Actually from some pressumed bigger and earlier trope, I guess...

Tanto: They're "different" from the preconceived notions of the creatures. If you say "vampire", for instance, a whole range of facts pop into peoples' minds: drinks blood, makes more vampires, only comes out at night, stake through heart, immortal, turns into bat. This trope is what allows writers to take those preconceived notions, those baselines, and build off of them to create the vampires/werewolves/whatever that they want to use in their story — hence, Our Monsters Are Different.

  • What about Robots?

Tanto: Again, wiki — you can make one.

Tails: I don't have enough examples for a YKTTW, but this got me thinking about whether there's enough for a case of "Our humans are different". The only big example that comes to mind is the My Teacher Is An Alien series in which we're a Hive Mind that seperated. Not necisarrily special, just with prominent attributes or powers not present in Real Life.
