That description of meat loaf describes the way my mother, who is a notoriously bad cook, actually makes meat loaf. Can we add some Truth in Television here, saying it can turn out that way if you're a bad cook?
There's definitely Truth in Television behind Mystery Meat. For example, what exactly is in the average Chinese restaurant dumpling? Somewhat subverted in that if the restaurant is good, so is the Mystery Meat, but not completely averted because, well, you still couldn't pick out a particular ingredient.
