Moving an edited version of the Dinotopia Live-Action TV example to the book series' trope page. Not only is the series almost completely forgotten (thank goodness), this is what Complaining About Shows You Dont Like looks like:

  • The Dinotopia miniseries, which involved modern teenagers washing ashore on the lost continent, on which humans who've similarly become stranded on the island live in relative harmony with intelligent dinosaurs whose ancestors (thanks to the unique geography of the island) survived some of the mass extinctions that took place in the rest of the world. The miniseries, of course, completely disregarded the fact that every single Dinotopia book, including the spin off novels written by other authors, had been set in previous centuries - turning an easily justified trope into a more ridiculous variation with some kind of magical continent that never showed up on GPS but could still literally be reached by riding the back of a dolphin. Which to actual fans of the books, seemed to push the fantasy elements (which in the original story are so subtle they could almost be considered a variant of science fiction) a little far.
    • Also, it seemed like a cheap excuse for the costume department to save money and the teenagers to for instance, teach dinosaurs ping-pong, even though ping pong existed from Victorian times, showing that the makers really Did Not Do The Research.

Would Galt's Gulch really count as a Lost World? Sure, it is really issolated... but it has only ever existed for a good 12 years before the novel takes place. Also, how is it a Dues Ex? The author only spent 2/3rds of a book the size of the bible asking who the hell John Galt is with accompanied ominous foreboding.
